Worry

Summary:

An injured Hawke returns from a solo outing. It's a shame she didn't tell Fenris.

Work Text:

It was nearly midnight by the time she made it home. Hawke had spent the day cleaning out a raider den on the Wounded Coast. She knew she should have taken someone with her, but she felt confident in her ability to handle it alone. There shouldn't have been that many. She winced as she walked up the stairs, pain shooting in her back from where an arrow hit her. She would need to heal herself after a nice warm bath. Maybe she should heal herself and then take a bath. After what felt like an eternity of walking, she reached the top of the stairs.

Hawke dragged herself to her room, using her staff as a walking stick. She almost made it to the bed before losing her balance. Before she hit the floor, a firm hand grabbed her, pulling her up and helping her sit on the bed. Fenris. She looked up at him, his expression a combination of concern and displeasure. Hawke's relief at seeing her lover quickly dispersed as she realized he would want an explanation.

"What happened?" he asked, gently peeling her robes from her body, revealing a smattering of cuts and bruises. Hawke hesitated. She could lie, tell him that she had some training exercise with Aveline or that she got into a fight after a visit to the Hanged Man.

"Do you not know how you were injured?" his voice was firm. Fenris ran a finger along one of her cuts, making her wince.

"The usual, I got into a fight, and I haven't had time to heal myself," it wasn't a lie, but it wasn't the whole truth either. She looked at the ground.

"Just a little back-alley scrap?" he didn't believe her. The edge in his voice told her as much. He tugged on her hair, forcing her to look at him. He stared at her before speaking.

"The funniest thing happened earlier. I hadn't seen you today, so I went to see if you were with Varric at the Hanged Man. Do you know what Varric told me?" She shook her head. "He told me that you had decided to go off to kill some raiders. Alone. Do you know how worried I was? Did you want me to fear for your safety?"

"Fenris... I just. I thought I could handle it; I was told it would only be a few. I'm sorry" she almost whispered. Fenris released her hair before pulling out a small vial. Some sort of potion. He pulled the stopper off with a loud pop. It smelled like some kind of herb. He scooped out some of its contents. It was thick, like a paste. Fenris began to apply it to her wounds, she was surprised at the instant relief she felt.

"It's a health poultice. I'm glad I had the foresight to get one from Anders," Fenris said as he continued to work, applying the poultice to her wounds and gently bandaging them.

"I can heal them Fenris," Hawke began to argue, but one look from Fenris caused her to go silent. She allowed him to work in peace. He finished with a satisfied hum.

"Better?" he asked. She wiggled before nodding.

"I almost feel as good as new."

Fenris let out a small chuckle before kissing her forehead.

"Don't make me worry like that again. Ever," she hated, ok maybe loved it, when he was stern like this. He gave her another kiss, this time on the lips. She melted into him. Maybe going on her little trip was worth it after all.
