Plunging into an Unknown Future

Summary:

It has been three weeks since the battle with Skar King and Shimo's release from the tyrant. Nature's balanced and all is well. Yet something strange has happened. Godzilla takes note as the other Kaijus have awaken and not by his own doing. Something has caused the others to stay awake, even though he had called for them to return to sleep.

It's not until all hear a voice calling for help, that Godzilla moves himself to investigate. Finding something unexpected, the King of the Monsters now finds himself in the sudden aspect of fatherhood.

Follow the King and his subjects as they traverse through this new exciting part of their lives.

Notes:

This is the first of a few chaptered stories that focus more on the Kaijus prospective that I plan to post. This story does contain an OC that plays a major role. If that is not your cup of tea, I completely understand.

I do hope everyone enjoys the story as I post each new chapter. Updates will be sporadic due to life and working on other multi chaptered stories.

Chapter 1: Discovery

Chapter Text

The rough concrete of the Colosseum walls cradled the massive form of Godzilla. The Kaiju had been resting soundly for the past three weeks. However, the Kaiju had woken up a day ago and hadn’t been able to fall back asleep.

Nature’s balanced and there isn’t a distress call from the human tribe in Hollow Earth.

He doubts that the small shake from the Earth would be what caused the Kaiju to stay up. The tremor may have woken him, but Earth had constant tremors. The crust is ever moving and shifting. If a tremor or small earthquake were to awaken him, Godzilla would easily fall back asleep within an hour or so of waking.

The tremor had awakened many of the other Kaijus as well. But they had not moved from their homes. All nestled in safety and still. He had given a soft rumble— a call for all to return to sleep. That had been a day ago and none of the others had returned to their rest.

Something is causing the Kaijus to stay up.

But he is unable to figure out why.

This isn’t disobedience from his subjects. He had felt all of them try their best to return to sleep. Some even had repositioned themselves for more comfort and had drifted into sleep but for only a few hours.

“Is anyone still up?”

Rodan’s voice fills Godzilla’s head. The telepathic link that all the Kaijus share had been mostly quiet for a day. Small grumbles from annoyance would come through once in a while, to which Godzilla would do his best to calm. Earlier in the day he had made another call, hoping this one would help the Kaijus return to sleep.

Many voices of the other Kaijus sound through the link.

His call didn’t work.

“Something’s not right.” Behemoth says, his voice low and smooth, “In all my years of living, I have never experienced this.”

Others chime in echoing Behemoth.

Godzilla found the whole thing strange. Something peculiar is happening and he had no idea what it could be. With a snort, the alpha raises his head. He tries to find anything that could be amiss. He’d done this a few times since the Kaijus awakening, but he had found nothing during those earlier attempts.

But this attempt is just like the others— a failure.

Nothing is out of place. Nothing he could sense, nothing he could hear.

Laying his head back down, the alpha huffs.

He listened to the other Kaijus talk. He isn’t much for conversions but knowing that the others were still in their homes and not walking about means there isn’t much damage and lives being lost.

Maybe this was Nature’s doing. Allowing the Kaijus to wake, to sense their territories, to become one with their home again. How long had some of the Titans been sleeping before Ghidorah had taken over as alpha?

It’s possible that over time, the Kaijus would return to sleep.

“Anyone else noticing something…weird?” Rodan’s confused voice fills the link. “And I don’t mean this sleeping issue either.”

Godzilla huffs, curious about what Rodan means, “Explain.”

“The humans that watch me seem… unsettled? Nervous? They’re running around more than usual.” Rodan says, “I can make out a little of what’s being said.”

Voices from the other Kaijus fill the link, all asking the versions of the same question.

“Rodan,” Godzilla calls, all going silent, “What are they saying?”

“Something about being unable to contact an outpost of theirs.” Rodan grumbles, “They’re talking over each other and it’s hard to make out what they're saying.”

It didn’t help that humans are small.

So small compared to a Kaiju.

“A blackout it sounds like.” Behemoth says, “Mine had one a few years ago. I’m not sure why it had happened, but the humans were… frantic about it.”

Godzilla huffs again in mild interest. He was aware of how advanced human technology had become, but knowing it was still fragile in some capacities was rather amusing to the ancient Gojira.

But what outpost are the humans unable to contact then? Every outpost is important, but there’s only one that Godzilla could think of that was the most important outpost to the humans.

Castle Bravo.

Godzilla would visit this outpost frequently during his patrols. He knew that the humans there were always excited to see him when he dropped by. He was always curious as to what the humans in the building were doing, but with his size, the Titan knew that he wouldn’t be able to enter the structure.

He has to settle with looking in through the large windows to see what he could.

Could Castle Bravo be down?

If so, that would cause many of the humans stationed in the other outposts to become frantic. From what Godzilla had collected over the years of visiting, Castle Bravo is the main outpost of operations.

“Rodan, are you able to figure out what outpost they're worried about?”

The Fire Demon hums, “Give me a bit, I'll try too.”

The link was quiet for at least five minutes before Rodan spoke, “All I could make out was “No one picking up.”, “Communication blackout.”, and “Castle Bravo.” ... I have a feeling I know what that may mean.”

Castle Bravo has a blackout.

Castle Bravo is down, and the humans are frantic. Without a doubt, the humans stationed near Rodan, and the others are causing a little ruckus over the situation.

“Castle Bravo is most likely down and unable to be contacted. There isn't anything we can do. This is a human problem.” Godzilla says.

“The humans will be uneasy about this for a while then,” Behemoth states. “It's best to not add stress. They're quite fragile creatures.”

“They're not as fragile as they once were.” Queen MUTO chimes in.

“In comparison to a few hundred years ago? Or centuries?” Rodan asks.

“Both.”

Godzilla snorts, but the Queen MUTO has a point. While the humans were tiny compared to the Kaijus, they were not as helpless as their predecessors once were. That bomb they dropped on him and Ghidorah during their second fight is proof enough. If the humans wanted the Kaijus dead, they have the means to do so.

And yet, Godzilla had a feeling the humans realized that the Kaijus are needed for nature’s balance— for Earth’s balance.

Tuning the conversion out, Godzilla closes his eyes. With the sun baking the ancient rocks that made up his nest, the ancient Gojira allows himself to shift into a more comfortable position.

If sleep isn’t coming soon, the best the Kaiju can do is enjoy the sun’s warmth. Even if it’s drying out his scales a little. If he still couldn’t sleep, a short swim may help.

For another hour or so, all seemed to be well. The Kaijus were chatting away and some even said they were beginning to feel tired. Rodan, Queen MUTO, and Behemoth had been going on about how humans have become less powerless as the years have gone by.

While he had not interjected into the conversation, Godzilla had found the topic mildly interesting. Though he knew that if Mothra was here she would be sparkling in her two-sense of the humans. Out of all the Titans, she spends the most time with tiny creatures. She's always been fascinated by the little creatures.

Hearing a buzzing, the ancient Gojira looked up to find a small human device flying above him. While humans were fascinating in their own right, the species were just as annoying.

For now, Godzilla would let the human flying machine stay above him. As of now, it's more of a sound nuisance than physical. But if it comes closer, he'll be chomping it out of the air.

With a heavy snort, the Kaiju closes his eyes again. He knows the humans are watching him through that little flying machine and for the moment, he'll let the tiny creatures indulge themselves.

Only to snap his eyes open as a mighty tremor from the Earth runs through his body. Lifting his head, the voices of the other Kaijus rang through the link with confusion and concern.

Yet this termer felt… off?

Like there was something else within.

“Alright, everyone felt that tremor, right?” Rodan calls.

The others fill the link with confirmations.

“It was a strange one.” Behemoth says, “I believe… I heard something.”

“Same.” Queen MUTO adds, “But I couldn’t make it out.”

He wasn’t the only one, then? Good.

Another tremor.

Help.

The word rings in his head with a cry.

The ancient Kaiju sniffs the air, trying to figure out why the word help had come to his mind. Nature wasn’t crying out like it would when an imbalance occurred, but his body alerted him to the fact that something was wrong.

Something is causing the tremors and making the Kaijus freak out.

Another tremor and this time stronger. He could tell what direction the tremor had come from as well, which he had not been able to do before. And he didn’t like where the tremor had come from.

“Help. Please.”

An unfamiliar voice enters the link. It’s soft, so soft that the ancient Gojira almost didn’t hear it. The link had been silent when this voice had called out. Growling deep in his throat, Godzilla lifts himself into a standing position.

“Someone had called out, but who?” Queen MUTO asks, “I’ve never heard this voice before.”

“Have other Kaiju awakened?” Behemoth hums.

“Unsure, but the tremor…” Rodan’s voice is filled with uneasiness. “It came from…”

“Antarctica.” Godzilla finished. “I’m going. Something is going on and I don’t like it.”

Finding the lowest part of the ancient building, Godzilla lifts his leg as high as he can. Luckily this time, he didn’t cause damage like he had done three weeks prior when he had to charge up to beat Skar King.

The architecture reminded him of his old lair deep beneath the ocean that had been blown up by the human that had given his life to help him recover. While he appreciated the sacrifice and had sent the human soul to heaven himself, he missed his old lair.

But he couldn’t think of that now, he needed to get to Antarctica. Something is wrong and he’s going to figure out what it is.

There’s another tremor, but weaker than the one before it.

“Help. Please. Cold. Not long… left.”

The voice again, but this time it’s lower than earlier. It’s like it’s… fading. Could… could this Kaiju be… dying?

Sensing the others becoming restless, Godzilla gives a rumble. One that is used to soothe the others when they are uneased. “Relax as much as you can. I’m going to see what this voice and tremors are about.”

“Couldn’t this voice, this Kaiju, be… dying?” Rodan asks, his voice filled with worry.

Godzilla waited a moment before answering.

“I’m not sure, but… I worry that could be the case.”

Once getting himself to a shore and in the water deep enough to begin swimming, Godzilla torpedoed himself in the direction of Antarctica. The ice desert that once was the prison of the three-headed dragon was one that Godzilla didn’t wish to return to.

But, the tremors that he and the other Kaijus had been feeling were coming from that accursed desert. He isn’t sure what he’ll find there, but if another Kaiju is dying, then he must help the creature recover or make their passing quick.

Over the hour of his swimming, the tremors had gotten less and less strong. The other Kaijus had been panicking, their questions frantic. Which isn’t helping the King’s concentration. He had told the others to settle themselves as he made his way to Antarctica.

Panic isn’t something the King goes through often, but with the other Kaijus stressing he can feel his panic rising. He can count on his hands the number of times that he has felt pure panic run through his veins.

He’s hoping that once he’s reached Antarctica and has found who’s behind the tremors, he’ll be able to figure out what is needed to help this distressed Kaiju. Then he’d hoped that the others would relax and finally fall back into hibernation.

Godzilla had not expected the tremors would be a distress call, but the voice sounded so weak that he now saw why. He can only imagine how weak the Kaiju must be if the tremors they were giving off had not triggered the King’s instinct to investigate.

But something new had developed.

Nature has begun to cry.

The imbalance is small and subtle but is steadily growing. The uncomfortableness in his stomach is the first thing that Nature goes for. Soon his body will begin to ache, then a headache will come on, and if the warning is ignored enough Godzilla will begin to rage and stress. Just like how he reached when the human tribe in Hollow Earth sent the distress signal.

“How are you feeling, My Lord?” Behemoth’s worried voice comes through the link.

“Discomfort for now.” Godzilla answers, “Nature has begun to cry out.”

The link had gone silent for a moment before Behemoth spoke, “I’m sorry I can not be of service in easing the pain.”

Godzilla snorts, knowing that the other Kajius couldn’t do much when it comes to Nature’s balance and the issues it can cause the King. but he still appreciates the mammoth-sloth's concern.

“Keep your territories balanced. It makes the discomfort easier to deal with.”

It isn’t just the Kaijus that Godzilla has to keep an eye on and deal with. The humans have been following him as well. First, they used their little metal flying machines to trail him to the ocean. Once he entered, their little metal fish had continued for where the metal flying ones had ended.

How annoying this is. He knew that once he found this Kaiju, the humans would get their tiny noses into where they shouldn’t belong. But, there isn’t much he could do to keep the humans from doing as they pleased.

Not without causing destruction and in turn would cause them to attack him. With a grumble, the King ignored the metal fish following him.

The temperature of the waters around him dropped and he knew that he had entered the area of Antarctica. Surfacing, a gust of warm air leaves his nostrils. Sniffing the cold air, Godzilla tries to pick up the scent of the Kaiju that had been calling for help.

After a few deep inhales, the King had picked up a faint scent. With a huff, Godzilla pulls himself out of the water and onto the ice. Shaking the water off and stepping farther onto the ice sheet, he keeps sniffing. Getting more of the scent, the King is hesitant to follow it.

The scent smells like Ghidorah, though slightly different. Memories of the battle with the three-headed dragon flood the King’s mind, but he shakes his head to dismiss them. While he is not going to be too keen to find the Kaiju that the scent belongs to, he must.

Nature is crying out and the imbalance is getting worse. And so are his synonyms. With a huff, Godzilla follows the scent. Soon he comes upon the cap that once held Ghidorah. His rival's scent is still thick even years after his defeat, but under that wretched scent is another. Though it is faint, Godzilla can still track it.

Walking a few miles from the broken prison and destroyed human facility, the King of Monsters finds what he is looking for. Lowering his head to the icy surface, the ancient Gojira can see something glowing under the ice and snow. Though the glow pulses, it’s faint… and grows fainter with each pulse.

With a grunt, Godzilla places his claws onto the ice and gives a gentle push. The ice creaks and small cracks appear. Putting more weight onto the ice, it doesn’t take long for it to break. With a pleased huff, Godzilla brushes the ice shards away and stares at what he has unearthed.

Looking down with a puzzled expression, Godzilla lowers his head until his snout is mere inches away from what he had unearthed. Taking a few sniffs, the King confirms that this is what the scent had been coming from.

Pulling his head back, the King speaks through the link. “I found something.”

The first to speak is Rodan, “What did you find?”

“An egg.”

There’s silence and the King prepares himself for what is about to happen.

“An Egg?” Rodan shrieks.

“What do you mean an egg?” Behemoth’s voice comes, calm, yet curious.

“Well, that’s unexpected.” Queen MUTO hums.

The other Kaijus bombarded the link to the point that Godzilla could feel a headache forming. With a grunt, he says, “Enough. I’m getting a headache. And Yes, I found an egg.”

Godzilla looks at the scaly golden egg and notes that the pulsing glow he saw has stopped. Lowering his head again, he used his snout to gently nudge the organic object. When nothing happens, the King tries to speak to the Kaiju in the egg.

“Little one?”

Nothing.

No response, so he tries again. And again.

Yet, he hears nothing.

Was… was he too late?

“H-hello…”

A voice. One so weak that Godzilla is surprised that it even spoke. Lowering his head again until his snout was touching the egg, he could feel the small life inside. One that’s barely hanging on.

Cold. he realizes how cold the egg is and pieces together that the little life is dying due to the cold. Moving himself over the egg, the King of the Monsters slips his claws around the fragile thing and pulls it towards his body. Powering up a controlled charge, Godzilla keeps the egg to himself and warms it.

Nature had calmed slightly when the ice around the egg had been broken. Once Godzilla had pulled the egg into his arms and against his glowing chest, Nature had settled completely. His stomach discomfort had vanished as Nature’s balance became whole again.

“H-hello?”

Godzilla gives a little rumble, pleased to hear the voice again and a bit stronger.

“I’m here.” Godzilla says, his voice soft to not scare the little life, “Are you ok?”

“Was cold. Very cold.” The voice says. “Tired. Very tired.”

A soft hum, “You're warming up now. Rest. I have you.”

It had taken only moments for the little life in the egg to fall asleep. The little life had been using what strength it had to call for help and nearly died, he wasn’t surprised that the little one had fallen into sleep so quickly.

“How’s the egg?” Rodan’s voice asks, his voice small.

“I’m warming it.” Godzilla hums, “The little one was dying from the cold. I believe I just barely got here in time.”

“But, that egg… it’s…” Rodan’s discomfort was noticeable.

“Nature was becoming unbalanced when the little one was dying.” Godzilla explains, “I dare not think of what would have happened if it had passed.”

There’s a hum from Behemoth, “So, it is a consensus that the egg is to be hatched.”

“If it is what Nature desires, then yes.” Queen MUTO says.

“Well, then,” Rodan sighs, “Where is the egg going to be hatched? It’s got to stay warm and guarded.”

Godzilla gives a thoughtful hum, “I know just the place.”

“And where would that be?” Behemoth hums.

“My new nest.” Godzilla says, “The humans wouldn’t be too foolish to do anything that would disturb me.”

He’s King after all. He’ll be the one to take the duty of warming and guarding the egg.

Just like if it was one of his kind.

“That works for me,” Rodan says, “Just one question. How are you going to get the egg to your nest? I don’t think swimming with an egg is a good idea.”

Godzilla blinked. He had not thought of how to transport the egg to his nest without it being underwater. He had been so focused on warming the little life’s egg that this had not come up until Rodan had spoken up.

He isn’t sure if he wants to have one of the flying Kajius to help or find a way to communicate to the humans that he needs their assistance. He could try to keep part of himself and the egg above water as he swims, but he isn’t sure how effective that would be. The little life had nearly died due to the cold, and he wasn’t going to allow the little one to pass.

“I am not sure.” Godzilla says, “I didn’t think that far into the situation.”

The only things on this icy tundra are him, the egg in his arms, and the abandoned human facility. He suspected that the metal fish the humans use is in the water, but he had no way of speaking with the humans.

The human girl he saw with Mothra isn't here. If she was, then he’d use her to tell the humans what he needed. Finding out that she was able to communicate with him and Mothra was a pleasing discovery, but learning that she was able to communicate with Kong…

Well, that little human was full of surprises it seems.

“Rodan could fly the egg to the nest.” Queen MUTO says, “He’s closest to Antarctica at the moment.”

“In theory, yes.” Rodan snorts, “But execution is going to have some trouble.”

“We’ll decide on what to do later.” Godzilla interjects, “Can’t go anywhere with the egg this cold. It’ll take a while for it to warm up.”

While the others chat away about how to move the egg, Godzilla looks at the thing against his and presses his snout to the shell. He rumbles in a pleased manner as he feels the little life getting stronger with every minute.

Chapter 2: Trying to Communicate

Summary:

Godzilla and the others come up with ideas on how to move the egg to the Colosseum. They try to contact the humans for help first. While that is under way, Godzilla and Behemoth have a chat between themselves.

Notes:

Popped out another chapter sooner then I planned, but I have the next five days off, so I'm going with the flow.

Chapter Text

Soft purrs rumbled in the King’s chest as he felt the little life inside the egg grow stronger. It had been three hours since he had unearthed the egg from the ice and begun to warm it. In the past hour, the little one had started to move around in their sleep, which Godzilla was pleased with.

The humans' little flying machines had shown up about 45 minutes ago. He had been eyeing the little machines since they had arrived, but all they did was hover in the air. They never moved closer, for which the King is grateful. He isn’t in the mood to have to put these tiny creatures in their place… again.

“Hey.” Rodan’s voice comes from the link, which had been silent for a while.

“Hmmm?” Godzilla responds, “Something wrong?”

“Nothing’s wrong,” Rodan says, “Everyone’s wondering how the egg’s doing.”

Oh, right. He hasn’t given the others an update on the egg for the past three hours.

“The little one’s doing fine now. The egg’s warmed up significantly and they moved around a little in their sleep about an hour ago.” Godzilla says, “There isn’t much to report.”

“When do you plan to move the egg to your nest?” Behemoth asks, “We think we have come up with an idea that could work.”

To Behemoth’s inquiry, Godzilla hummed, “I don’t plan on moving the egg right now. I need to test its warmth. What of this plan?”

“Well, the closest one to Antarctica that can fly is Rodan. We’ve assumed that you’d want the egg to stay out of the water so that Rodan could carry it in his claws.” Behemoth explains.

“And what about his body temperature? He had magma for blood.”

Godzilla didn’t want the egg injured while carried to his nest. He also didn’t want Rodan doing anything that would cause injury to himself, to the humans, or where the tiny creatures lived. But he did agree that Rodan is the closest Kaiju that can help.

“I would have to stay close to the water to ensure that the egg is safe. That does mean I’ll be getting wet, but that shouldn’t be too much of a problem." Rodan says, “It’s not the best plan by all means, but we tried.

Godzilla worked over the plan. While Rodan’s old nest had been destroyed during the battle with Ghidorah, he had overheard the humans saying that the Fire Kaiju had made a new nest in a place called Fiji. From what he had overheard, the Kaiju had been having many humans come and visit.

Spectators are the word he believes that he is looking for.

“I don’t know if that’s a good idea.” Godzilla looks at the egg in his arms, “I don’t know if I want to take the chance of anyone getting hurt.”

“Alright, Big-G, that's sounding like hormones to me.” Rodan says, “I doubt humans are going to be that stupid to try something.”

Logically the plan would work, even if Godzilla could find a few issues with it. But something in his gut told him that it was a bad idea, and he shouldn’t go through with it.

“I just don’t like the plan. Humans are unpredictable.” Godzilla huffs, "... And it’s not hormones. Don’t start that.”

“Ok, ok. So, what do you have in mind?” Rodan asks.

A thoughtful hum comes from the King’s throat, “Well the plan isn’t bad, it’s just… There's a lot that could go wrong. Humans are not the only things that we have to keep in mind. If Rodan were to fall into the ocean I would have to hoist him and the egg out of the water and let them both dry off, if there is land that is.”

“I had mentioned to everyone about that.” Rodan says, “But we’re worried about the egg scorching. I know it sucks, but flying close to the water is a better option than high up. If that egg scotches, that little one inside may not survive.”

“Can we try to get one of the other flying Kajius to help?” Godzilla asks. Surely this wasn’t the only plan they had come up with.

“The others weren’t comfortable doing the job,” Behemoth answers. “They fear they would cause more harm than good.”

Godzilla sighed and shook his head. He could force one of the other flying Kajius to carry the egg, but at this moment, the King of Monsters just wasn’t in the mood to deal with something like this.

Cowards. All seem to be a bunch of cowards.

Whether it was due to hormones or the fact that he was beginning to feel tired, Godzilla decided to go with the only plan that Behemoth and the others came up with. While the King has doubts that he’s experiencing hormone changes, he can’t completely ignore what Rodan said.

He’s only just discovered the egg. Not enough time for his body to adjust to hatching young.

“So, it seems Rodan was the only option?” Godzilla asks.

Or was he just an unwilling volunteer?

“You can say that.” Rodan huffs, giving the impression that he wasn't too thrilled. “If you want to try the humans you can. They are not as stupid as they appear. I’m sure if you can find a way to tell them that you need help, they can. It’s just… trying to indicate to them that you need help.”

A thoughtful rumble comes from the ancient Gojira. Rodan had a point, the humans could use one of their large metal fish to carry him and the egg to where his nest lays. They had a few that were big enough to hold both him and Kong on when the two had fought when the Ape had entered his territory.

But he remembers that some of those large metal fish had been destroyed when the two had fought. But at least one survived right?

“I suppose I could try that first.” Godzilla hums through the link.

“Did any of the humans follow you?” Queen MUTO Asks.

“Their small flying machines have.” Godzilla turns his attention to the hovering objects. “Anyone got suggestions on how to communicate with humans?”

There’s a moment of silence.

“So… no one has any idea,” Godzilla says, feeling he knew the general answer.

All had given versions of not knowing how to help the King. Godzilla sighed; he should have known that something like this would happen. Kaiju and humans didn’t understand each other, so communicating wasn’t the easiest thing.

Now he wished that the human girl he saw with Mothra was here. She’d be able to translate what the Kaiju wanted. With a snort, the King began to think that maybe this idea wouldn’t work.

“How soft is the snow?” Rodan asks.

Godzilla blinked, a bit confused. “What?”

“How soft is the snow?” Rodan repeats, “If it's soft enough, you might be able to write that you need help. I’ve seen human children do this with sticks and dirt. It’s worth a shot.”

“I don’t… have a stick.”

“Use your tail? Maybe set the egg down and use your fingers?” Rodan says, “That’s all I can think of.”

“I… I’m not sure… if I want to put the egg down.”

There wasn't anything that could insulate the egg from the ice and Godzilla is not about to endanger the little one for a quick message.

So, it seems that his tail will have to do.

“You're worried about the little one's health.” Rodan states, “I can understand.”

“I am,” Godzilla admits to the Kaiju and himself.  He wasn't comfortable setting the egg on the ice. On the very thing that nearly killed it. “I'm not comfortable with it on the ice.”

“Your tail would be the most effective tool then.” Queen MUTO, “Assuming you still wish to proceed with trying to contact the humans.”

Rodan hums as if in thought.

“Something up?” Godzilla asks.

“Well, do you know how to spell English words? The most common language used by humans is English. If not, then this plan is going right out the window.” Rodan points out.

Godzilla ponders this. He has never needed to communicate with humans via writing, but he had used his fingers to draw pictures and strange human symbols in the sand when he was just a pup with his older siblings.

Godzilla may have slept through some of the human development over the years, but he can read what the creatures had written down on these ridiculously large boards.

But would his tail be the best choice? Looking back and seeing how long his tail is, Godzilla wonders if he should bite down and let Rodan take the egg. This plan was popping up more headaches than he wished to deal with.

With a sigh, Godzilla is about to tell the others to scrap this plan and have Rodan head his way. But some movement draws his attention.

Lowering his head, Godzilla lets the top of his snout touch the egg. He wants for a few moments, then… he feels it.

There's movement in the egg. Staying still, the King waits to see what the little one does. Soon he hears a voice over the link.

“Warm. Too warm.”

Godzilla stops his controlled charge. It seems the little one has become too warm now.

“Sorry about that.” Godzilla hums, “Did we wake you?”

“No. It was too warm.”

Godzilla hums again. In wanting to make sure the little one was safe from freezing to death he had unintentionally made the egg too warm and woke them up.

“Well nice to know the little one's fine and we can talk to them later, but we still have a problem to deal with.” Rodan chuckles, “So back to my question.”

“Hold yourself easy there.” Godzilla snorted, “I should be able to, but my tail is long, and I don't know if I can make a word out that’s readable to them. I would have better luck with my fingers. Though I believe a series of pictures would be better.”

“You know what you need to do for you to do that,” Rodan says.

Godzilla felt one of his eyes twitch. Annoyance is something that he's used to dealing with, but if Rodan was here in physical form, he'd be slappin' the Fire Kaiju.

Maybe he is being hormonal.

“Have to do what?” The little one's voice calls out.

“Well, an ice sheet isn't the best place to build a nest. I need to tell the humans that I want you in my nest, but they don't understand me that well.” Godzilla blows a puff of air from his nose, trying to keep the explanation simple. “There is a way I can tell them, but I would have to set you on the ice to do so. And that's not something I want to do, truthfully.”

“So, you need your hands free?” The little one asked.

“Yes.” Godzilla answers.

“Why not use one hand to hold our egg and the other to tell the… humans… what you need.” The little one says, though the word human sounded strange to say.

There's silence over the link and Godzilla wonders why he hasn't thought of it when he was talking with the others.

Had the others thought of this when he was warming the egg earlier?

“So, I’m just… gonna sink into my volcano and pretend I didn’t think of that as an option,” Rodan says.

Godzilla shook his head and snorted. With the link still quiet, he assumes the others have not thought of this as well.

“I suppose that could work.” Godzilla looks at the egg in his arms. Moving it to one arm wouldn't be difficult, but it would feel awkward to hold.

Cradling the egg into one arm, Godzilla tests stability by twisting his upper body. When the egg didn't fall, the last Gojira huffed in satisfaction. Now he could get to work.

He's decided to draw a series of pictures first. He may not be the best at drawing, but he knows that if the drawings are legible enough then the humans could figure it out.

With his size, the images should be large enough for the humans' little flying machines to see.

With a determined huff and the egg nestled safely in his arm, he sets to work.

He starts with the large metal fish that held him and Kong during their first fight. Once that had been done, Godzilla drew a mock of himself and the egg on it. Near the metal fish, Godzilla drew some waves to indicate the ocean. Above the waves, he put an arrow pointing away from the metal fish that had him and the egg.

The last part was a mock of the Colosseum. He had drawn himself and the egg above and made an arrow pointing down. If the humans could read old cave paintings and rock carvings, then they should be able to read this and interpret them enough to know what the Kajiu wanted.

If not, then he'll try words. But his English is limited.

Very limited.

Stepping back and looking at the completed images, Godzilla snorts. He isn't the best at drawing and to be truthful himself, the images sucked.

But they should get the job done.

Moving a bit from the images, he settles himself on the ice. Having laid down, Godzilla curls his tail in front of himself and sets the egg down. At least the little one would be insulated from the icy cold.

It didn't take long for one of the little flying machines to move around his drawings. It made a few circles, then hovered. With any luck, the Kajiu would see the large metal fish within some time.

If he doesn't see it in three days, then he'll try writing out what he wants. But if all fails, then he's going to have Rodan fly his fire chicken ass over.

“Well, the humans’ little flying machine is looking at what I did.” Godzilla says over the link, “With any luck, they’ll figure out what I want.”

“And if they don’t?” Behemoth asks.

“Well, I went with pictures first. So, next, I’ll try words.” Godzilla replies.

“Why not words to begin with?” Rodan inquires, “Wouldn’t that have been easier?”

“My English… is limited.” Godzilla pauses, feeling the embarrassed flush on his cheeks. He’s grateful for being a reptile. “Embarrassingly limited.”

“Well, it sucks to be you!” Rodan’s smug laughter could be heard.

Godzilla snorted in irritation. Oh, may his great ancestors give him the strength and patience to deal with this stupid prehistoric bird.

“Rodan, that isn't very kind.” The Queen MUTO scolded. “Not everyone is well versed in speaking or writing in a language.”

“Enough.” Godzilla growled, “I'm tired and I don't want to hear any of this. Just… let me get a nap in.”

After using so much energy, the King's battery is running a little on the low side. A controlled charge for three hours wouldn't be an issue if the King had gone to a nuclear source beforehand.

But he was in a rush and had not made any pit stops, so what energy he had was all he had to use to keep the little one warm.

All he wanted to do was to take a nap.

“Try to take a nap.” Behemoth says, “I'll keep an eye on the others.”

“That is appreciated, Behemoth.” Godzilla yawns, sleep-pulling at the Kaiju.

Pulling himself from the link, Godzilla settles his head close to the egg. Listening to the heartbeat helps lull the Kaiju farther into sleep.

“Little one?” Godzilla calls out, using a private link. Being King does have its perks.

“Yes?” Was the response.

“If you need me, have Behemoth wake me up, ok?”

“Bay… he… moth?” The little one tries to sound out the name.

Godzilla let out a chuckle, imagining the little one's confused look as they mispronounced Behemoth's name. It will take a while for the small one to learn the names of the other Kaijus, but that is for another time.

“He's the one who said he'll keep an eye on the others as I take a quick nap,” Godzilla explains. “Ok?”

“Ok.”

Godzilla yawns, sleep beginning to take the King quickly once he has made himself comfortable. While he normally would sleep for months to years on end, he'd hoped that this nap would be a few hours at best.

He prayed that the others would behave while he rested.

When he awoke, all was silent. He didn't know how long he had slept, but it had to be more than three hours at least.

He felt very refreshed.

He wasn't sure if he should probe the link to see if anyone was still awake. If everyone had fallen back into sleep, he didn't want to reawaken them.

“You've awoken?” Behemoth's voice comes in a whisper.

“I have,” Godzilla whispers back. “Did anything transpire while I slept?”

“Nothing that requires immediate action. The others have fallen into slumber.” Behemoth says, “They have an… eventful day speaking with the unhatched one.”

At this Godzilla stiffens, only imagining what trouble Rodan could have caused.

“Everyone was well-behaved, especially Rodan,” Behemoth says, as if sensing Godzilla’s worry.

Godzilla relaxed, thankful for Behemoth. He'll have to thank the mammoth-sloth Kaiju proper once everything with the egg has settled.

“You kept him in line, didn't you?” Godzilla asks.

“Indeed.”

“I cannot thank you enough for the assistance.” Godzilla sighed in relief. “Rodan can be… a handful.”

“Indeed, he is.” Behemoth agrees, “Though he knows when to act properly.”

“At least everyone has fallen asleep. I'm sure that will help the humans settle. They're most likely stressed enough as is with the little ones' discovery.”

“I must… agree on that.” Behemoth yawns.

Godzilla hums, “Get some sleep. I know you're tired.”

“I am… unable to at this moment,” Behemoth claims, though sleep is heavy in his voice. “I’m a little too awake than the others were.”

Godzilla hums again. He could make a call and force Behemoth to rest, but after looking after the other Kaiju as he slept…

“What have you still up, yet the others sleep?”

“I believe it is simply due to the excitement that has transpired.” Behemoth hums.

Godzilla found this reasonable. If he had not needed that nap, he’d be like Behemoth now. Tired but too excited to sleep. The King surmises that once the excitement settles, Behemoth may be calm enough to enter sleep like the rest.

However, Godzilla wonders how long the others will stay in sleep. With the little one now discovered and their egg being incubated. It will only be a matter of time before they hatch and the other Kajius will be wanting to visit. And as the little one grows, they’ll need a sitter to watch over them while he’s out doing his Kingly duties. This means that the other Kajius will be more active than they have in years past.

Would this cause Nature to be unbalanced?

What of the humans? And of their reactions?

The human organization— Monarch is it called? These humans had been looking— studying— the Kaijus for years now. Godzilla knows that these humans would be thrilled to have a chance to document the behaviors of him and his fellow brethren. But some humans will not be so pleased. The majority of the human population would be on edge and terrified of the aspect of many of the Kajius awake and active.

This is something that the King has to be aware of and prepare. He wouldn’t put it past some of the humans to try and destroy himself and the others. He would not doubt that some humans would target the egg that is in his care.

While he does not want to cause harm to the tiny creatures… he will defend himself, the others, and the egg if it must come to that. He just prays that it doesn’t come to such an end.

“My King?”

Godzilla shakes the thoughts from his head, “Sorry. Was just thinking.”

“Something… unpleasant, I assume?”

“I’m worried… about… the humans.” Godzilla says, “Not the ones that watch us, but the others.”

“I assume that you’re worried about someone trying to harm the egg.”

“Not just that. I’m worried that they’ll try to harm myself and others. I do not want to cause harm, but if I must…” Godzilla trails off.

“The damage could be irreversible and what little relationship we have with the humans would be unsalvageable.” Behemoth says, “It is something that would be avoided if it could?”

“Yes,” Godzilla confirms, looking at the egg nestled on his tail. “If Nature was becoming unbalanced with the little one dying, I dare not think what will happen if they are killed.”

“I know you're worried,” There’s a hum from Behemoth, “But have faith in the humans. I know your history with them isn’t the best, but it seems that they’re starting to recognize how important we are. Maybe the ones who watch us will be able to find a way to help this situation.”

“It may take some time for me to trust,” Godzilla says.

“That’s reasonable,” Behemoth says as a yawn comes again.

“Behemoth,” Godzilla says, voice low and comforting. A rarity the King does. “You need to get some sleep. You’ve done quite enough for the day.”

There’s a moment of quiet from the other before he speaks, “I suppose I could try.”

“An hour is better than nothing.”

Behemoth hums in response.

“One question before you rest.” Godzilla says, “Hold long, have the others been sleeping?”

“I believe it's close to… oh… two hours now,” Behemoth replies with a yawn. “Some a little less.”

“I see.” Godzilla hums pleased that the others are sleeping. “Rest now.”

Behemoth mumbles something the King didn’t quite catch, but he isn’t too interested in what was said. Hopefully the last of the Kaijus would be slipping into sleep and Godzilla could focus more on the little life that he’s found.

There are many things he needs to prepare for in raising young. While he tried to mate in his younger years, no eggs were produced. He had suspected that either he or the one he mated with was too young at the time. But, he remembers how thick the nest they built was. Many were impressed and some were even jealous at how luscious that nest had been. He plans on having his new nest be like that, but he would need to have someone keep an eye on the egg.

But for now, that would have to wait. He needed to get himself and the egg off the ice sheet first. There was plenty of time for him to think of what he wanted the nest to be filled with and to find a suitable sitter.

Chapter Text

“You seem bored.”

Godzilla turns his head to the egg. It’s been at least four hours since he last spoke to Behemoth and the link had been quiet until now. He had thought the little life would be sleeping like the rest of Kaijus, but that was not the case.

“I’m more tired than anything.” Godzilla hums, “There isn’t much to do when everyone is sleeping.”

“Is there much to do when any of them are awake?”

Godzilla moves his head and nudges the egg.

“No, not really. Most of the time when one of the others is awake it’s not for the best reason.”

“Do some cause trouble?”

Such a curious little thing. Godzilla finds the questions mildly intriguing, and they help pass the time. Maybe the little one would tire themself out enough to take a nap. But Godzilla is unsure how long the little one had been sleeping.

He assumes the little one had fallen asleep sometime before he had woken up and spoken with Behemoth. Which, if true, means that the little one isn’t going to settle down anytime soon. He does have questions that he wants to ask, but for now, he’ll let the little one ask as many as their little mind can come up with.

“Oh, most definitely,” Godzilla confirms, thinking of a few prominent Kaijus. “End up with a headache after everything’s said and done.”

There's a hum, then the little one snorts.

“They do cause quite a headache.”

Godzilla couldn't help but chuckle. “What? Did they annoy you?”

“Me? No. But they woke up one of my sisters.” The little one says, “That was an interesting situation to deal with.”

Sisters?

Oh right. The little one is a Ghidorah. Of course, there would be more than one head.

But this was a good lead for a question of his.

“How many… sisters do you have?”

“Two.” The little one answers, “They're… considered to be my younger sisters.”

“How so?” Godzilla asks. The knowledge he could learn would help in raising the unhatched Ghidorah.

Or would it be Ghidoress?

“I am the first to wake.” The little one says, “So that would make me the oldest.”

“So,” Godzilla hums, “The next to wake would be the middle sister?”

“Correct.” The oldest one says, “And she has woken up a few times. Only briefly though.”

“And the youngest?”

“Has yet to wake.” The eldest says. “I’m not sure when she will.”

Knowing that there are three sisters, he and the others would need to figure out a way to identify each sibling. While voices could help, calling the sisters ‘little ones’ could cause some issues. Godzilla did not want the siblings fighting each other to be reconsidered by the others.

A thoughtful hum comes from him as an idea comes to mind.

“What are your and your sisters' names?”

“We…” There’s a pause from the eldest sister, “... were never given names. The ones who brought us… never named us.”

Godzilla lightly shook his head, not too surprised that Ghidorah had not given the sisters names. Did those brothers even care about the egg that they had taken? Did they snatch the egg from another out of spite? Did they want an heir to take the throne after they’ve died? Are the sisters a backup in case the brothers fail? Or did they take the egg cause they just wanted to?

“You are uneased.”

“Just… some thoughts are all.” Godzilla sighs, unsure if the unease is from the questions in his head or if hatching the sisters is a bad idea. He feels himself in a state of limbo.

“You're concerned that my sisters and I are a backup to the plan of the one that had brought us here.” The eldest states. “It is a reasonable concern to have. The others had made mention. The one who brought my sisters and me here wasn’t the kindest.”

“No, they weren’t.” Godzilla huffs, “Those brothers were far from kind.”

He isn’t sure why the others had made mention of Ghidorah in front of the little ones, but he’ll speak to them once they’ve woken up and the sisters have fallen asleep. He didn’t know what the little ones were told, but he didn’t want the sisters listening in when he ripped the Kaijus a new one.

“... Sorry.” The eldest one’s voice is soft, almost small.

Godzilla blinked, a little confused. “You have nothing to apologize for.”

There’s silence on the other end and Godzilla breathes a gust of air which fogs in the chilled air. He had not meant to upset the eldest one. Maybe mentioning Ghidorah wasn’t the best, but what was done is done.

“Listen, whatever plan Ghidorah may have had for you and your sisters… it doesn’t have to be that way. You can make your destiny— your path. I don’t know what the others said, but if it upset you or your sisters… let me know. I’ll talk with them.” Godzilla isn’t the best at comforting. That’s something Mothra was best at, but he needed to try. “Just promise me that if something happens or you and your sisters need help… you’ll come to me, ok?”

Still silent Godzilla nudges the egg, hoping to comfort the awake sister.

He feels a push against his snout and gives a pleased purr in response. “Promise me that you and your sisters will come to me if something happens or in need of anything.”

“I can only promise for myself.” The eldest says.

“I’ll speak with your sisters when they wake up then.” Godzilla shifts so that the egg is flush against the side of his snout.

“I wish… you luck in that.” The eldest yawns.

“Tired?” Godzilla hums. “Get some sleep, if you need it.”

“I always feel tired, no matter how much I sleep.”

“Well, you and your sisters are growing. Naturally, you three would be feeling tired even after a long nap. It’s nothing to be worried about.” Godzilla chuckles, slightly amused. “Sleep. There’ll be a time when you and your sisters won’t want to go to sleep.”

“I doubt… a time like that… will come.” The eldest yawns. “And no, I’m not going to sleep.”

It’s clear to Godzilla that the little one is losing the fight to not fall asleep. And he knows that his speaking with the eldest sister wouldn’t make it easier for her to fall asleep. However, an idea pops into his head, which he believes would be enough to help the sister fall asleep.

“I’ll make you a deal,” Godzilla says.

“Oh?” The eldest sister responded, “And what would that be?”

A smirk pulls on Godzilla’s lips, “Take a nap and I’ll let you in on a few secrets I know about the other Kaijus.”

“And what secrets are those?”

Godzilla chuckles. “Can't tell if you don't take a nap.”

There's a disappointed huff, but the eldest agrees. Though it takes about an hour for the sister to fall asleep, Godzilla purrs knowing the little one is off to snooze land.

Now he waits for the humans to arrive as a thought comes to mind.

How long will it take for the humans to get here?

Two days.

Godzilla has been waiting for two days and nothing on the horizon to indicate the arrival of a human vessel.

Luckily for him, most of the Kajius have stayed asleep. Which has given him the peace and quiet he's been wanting.

He assumes the humans have calmed knowing the others have been sleeping. Hopefully, they stay asleep while he and the egg are being moved to his nest.

“Oh God, I feel like I'm going insane!”

Right. Almost every Kaiju was asleep.

“Rodan.” Godzilla calls, “What's wrong now?”

“I don't know, but I need to move.” The Fire Kaiju groans, “I feel like if I don't stretch my wings, I'm going to explode.”

While Godzilla found what Rodan said to be a little dramatic, he could tell that Rodan was feeling a bit fidgety. It would be a while for the humans to come to his location and as of now, his nest is bare.

An idea had come to mind, but he wasn’t sure if it was a good one. If Rodan is feeling too anxious to be still, he might allow the Kajiu to fill his nest. Since he’s busy keeping the egg warm, there’s no one filling his nest up with materials. And with how slow the metal fishes can move, Godzilla isn’t banking on them to arrive at a reasonable time.

It’s been two days already.

Maybe he should have gone with the other Kajius plan. He’s positive now that Rodan and he could have made the journey in a day. But Godzilla was trying to give Behemoth's ‘Have faith in the humans’ a shot.

One more day. He’ll give the humans one more day to arrive. If those metal fishes are not here by that time, then he’s telling Rodan to get his ass over here.

“I don’t think you’ll explode, Rodan.” Godzilla sighs, “I get you are bored and getting a little fidgety, but try to settle. I don’t need you doing something that’ll give me a headache later.”

There’s a grumble but, Rodan acknowledges, “Yeah, yeah, I get it.”

Godzilla rolled his eyes and snorted at the Fire Kaiju's antics. But at least he knew that Rodan wouldn't be causing trouble.

For now at least. He hopes Rodan doesn't get jittery and fly off. He doesn't want to hunt the other down and punish him for disobedience.

Godzilla still has the other on probation due to him attacking Mothra. Siding with Ghidorah was natural. The brothers had seized his position as Alpha for a moment. It was only natural that Rodan would follow the orders of the new Alpha.

But Godzilla will admit that Rodan has been on good behavior these past few years.

Maybe he could allow the Fire Kaiju a bit of freedom.

“How long do you plan to wait for the humans?”

“Tomorrow.” Godzilla yawns, “If they're not here around noon, then we're going with Plan B.”

“I heard that some ships are headed your way.” Rodan hums, “The humans that are near me are… well… excited about the egg.”

Godzilla blinked and hummed in an intruded manner, “When did this happen?”

“About a day ago. These ships were in the water after you finished your drawing.” Rodan says, “Also Heard that they're hoping to reach you in about three days. Four at most.”

Godzilla hums at the information. If what Rodan says is true, then the humans had started their journey to him two days ago.

Godzilla gives a pleased purr, “I can let myself wait two more days.”

“I'm sure they'll be there sometime tomorrow.” Rodan laughs, “From what I could gather the ones picking you up are very excited. Not sure if it's due to the egg or not, but giving you a heads up.”

Oh just what he needed. A bunch of overly excited humans poking and proving where they shouldn't be. He wouldn't mind if it were him that the humans would be annoying with. But he knows for a damn fact they'll be doing the same with the egg.

“I appreciate the warning.” Godzilla sighed. He prays that he'll be able to tolerate the pesky humans.

“You’ll be fine.” Rodan tries to say in a comforting way, “I don't think humans will be that annoying.”

“I just want to get the egg back to my nest. After that, the creatures can be as annoying as they want.” Godzilla grumbles.

“Maybe you'll find one that you'll like more than the rest.”

Godzilla blinked at what Rodan had suggested. The only human the King tolerates is the female who can communicate with himself, Mothra, and Kong.

“I doubt that'll happen.” Godzilla snorts, wondering what caused the other to say such a thing.

“You never know,” Rodan says.

Godzilla could imagine the Fire Kaiju shrugging and snorting again. “What made you say such a thing?”

That's something Mothra would say.

“I just… maybe it's something you should look into,” Rodan says.

“Why? Do you have one?”

He waits for an answer, but Rodan gives none. He nudges the link and Knows Rodan is there and awake, but the Fire Bird hasn’t answered.

“Rodan?”

“You won’t tell anyone would you?”

Godzilla blinks at the question. He finds it strange that Rodan would ask such a thing from the King. He ponders the reason for a moment before it hits him like a nuke to the face.

“You have one don’t you?”

“Yeah.” Rodan’s voice trails off.

After a few moments of uncomfortable silence, Godzilla speaks, “I won’t tell anyone.”

“You promise?”

“Yes.” The King says, “I know how some of the others treat you. I won’t let them have more reasons to torment you.”

“... Thanks.”

Godzilla sighed, knowing that Rodan knew he wouldn’t go behind his back and gossip about the new information he had received.

Many Kajius have been picking on Rodan for as long as Godzilla could remember. He isn’t sure when all the bullying first started, but he tried his best to curb the behavior when he was young. But due to age and not having the Alpha status, most had not listened to him.

Rodan had told Godzilla time and time again that it was ok. It was something he could take, but Godzilla knew. He saw when some of the others made fun of the Fire Kaiju, the look Rodan would give. It only lasted seconds at most, but he always saw the expression of sadness.

Of hurt.

And of longing.

Godzilla knew that Rodan didn’t feel like he belonged. That tough guy, the unbothered attitude he had was just a mask. A flimsy mask that he had developed to hide so the others couldn’t see how much their words affected him.

“You know you have a place. A propose.”

There’s a sigh from the link.

“I know. You’ve said it a million times now.”

“And I’ll say it a million more if needed.” Godzilla huffs.

“Sounding just like my Ma.” Rodan snorts a chuckle, “Maybe that’s why I like the little human so much.”

“Reminds you of your mother?”

“Oh, she does.” Rodan laughs, “Another human got on her nerves and she threatened to take her shoe off and hit him with it. Sounded just like MA when she had to deal with me and my siblings. Though Ma would have just picked us up and dropped us. She never did it, but my sibling and I weren’t that foolish to test her.”

Godzilla chuckled as he let Rodan ramble on about the similarities between the human and his mother. It was nice to get the other out of a sour mood. If the others had listened to the Rodan chat once in a while, they’d learn so much about their fellow Kaiju.

But that seemed too far into the future for the Alpha to hope for.

At least as Alpha, he can curb the issue effectively, even if the progress is slow going. Hopefully, the others could see Rodan in a better light than they have been in the past several years.

It has taken two hours for Rodan to talk himself into silence. Godzilla yawns feeling the call of sleep again. He’s a lazy creature when he wants to be, but the issue of his nest has emerged in his mind.

Though it had slipped back to his mind during Rodan’s chatting, Godzilla wasn’t going to interrupt the Kajiu like many others have done. He could wait until the other had tired himself out.

“Rodan?” Godzilla calls.

“Yes?”

“I need you to do something for me.” Godzilla yawns.

“What is it?” The Fire Kaiju asks a bit of intrigue in his voice.

“I need someone to fill my nest,” Godzilla says, fighting back another yawn. He isn’t sure why he feels so tired. He had just taken a long nap not too long ago. “I’m with the egg and I’m assuming no other Kajius have awoken since I had fallen asleep.”

“So, you're asking me to build your nest while you're waiting?”

“Yes.” Godzilla confirms, “From what I know everyone still sleeping.”

“They are.” Rodan says, “Haven’t heard or felt anyone wake up.”

“Right.” Godzilla yawns, “Just try to minimize the damage.”

There were at least 30 minutes of silence and Godzilla was about to slip into sleep when Rodan’s voice came over the link again.

“You ok? You sound more tired than normal.”

“I feel tired.” Godzilla answers, “I can sleep for years when the humans aren’t fucking around every four seconds or so.”

“I know you can sleep for eons if allowed, but this…” Rodan trails off.

“What?”

“This is going to sound weird, but you sound tired. And I mean tiredness that comes from having little to no energy left. Even the tiredness that being sick can give.” Rodan says, “You sure you're ok?”

“I’m still exhausted from the recent fight.” Godzilla yawns. The battle with Skar King and Shimo had been a little over three weeks ago. The King isn’t too concerned with how tired he’s sounding. “I’m fine.”

“I… ok,” Rodan says, seeming to give up. “I’ll take care of your nest. But, just… watch yourself, alright?”

“Alright, alright.” Godzilla yawns again, just wanting to take a nap now. “If it gets worse I have Mothra take a look.”

“I don’t… you know what, never mind.” Rodan says, “Keep an eye out for that human ship.”

“I doubt I’ll be sleeping when they do show up.” Godzilla snorts, “A short nap wouldn’t hurt.”

“Whatever you say, Big G.” Rodan sighs, “I’m off now. If you need anything, just call out.”

“Yeah, I get it.” Godzilla yawns, “See you whenever I suppose.”

He heard Rodan mumble something, but sleep was too comforting for him to bother responding. It wasn’t like he was a dead sleeper. Godzilla’s sure that a quick nap wouldn’t hurt anything. With how slow the humans are, he suspected them to arrive within two days from now.

surely a nap here and there wouldn’t be so bad that he wouldn’t see or sense the humans coming. Their metal fishes were quite loud and he’s positive that he’ll hear them from miles away and wake up before they even breach the horizon.

What was Rodan worried about? Him sleeping so deep that the metal fish would have to run into the ice sheet to wake him up. What a silly thought.

There wasn’t anything Rodan needed to worry about.

Godzilla snorted at the thought as he fell asleep. What were the odds of that even happening?

Turns out, high.

The odds of the humans using their metal fish to wake him up were fucking high.

The King being jolted from his sleep by the ice shaking wasn’t something he would call pleasant. Lifting his head and blinking, the ancient Gorjira just stared at the metal fish that the humans had happily parked on the ice.

It was a few miles from him, but in terms of Kaiju, it was at least a few steps away.

At least he didn’t have to worry about falling into the ocean while trying to maneuver himself and the egg. The humans may have been smart to set themselves as close as possible, which Godzilla will give credit where it's due. But did they have to crash into the ice?

With how noisy these metal fish are, he should have woken up before the thing was even close to him. Maybe he should have taken Rodan’s concern more seriously.

Movement catches his eyes, and the King squinted. From what he can see it’s a human jumping and waving their arms. They're trying to get his attention and his attention they have. With a snort, Godzilla gives a low bellow.

He lifts himself into a half-lying position, knowing that he’ll have to move himself from the ice sheet to the metal fish soon. And he hopes to do it now, but first, he has to get up.

“Is everything ok?”

A voice and it’s not one of the Kajius.

He knows this one. The human girl that he saw with Mothra. The one that can communicate with Kong. So the humans had brought her here. At least this makes speaking easier.

“I’m fine. Just getting up.” Godzilla says, “It takes a bit.”

Once on his feet, Godzilla leans down and gathers the egg into his arms again. Feeling that the egg is still warm, Godzilla gives a pleased hum. Now he just needed to get himself and egg onto the metal fish that the humans had brought.

That should be easy, as long as the humans don’t start shooting at him. They seem to tend to do that a lot. It seems that today is his lucky day, for now. Having gotten himself to the object, the King takes a step and sees how the metal fish responds.

It titles but not much that it wouldn’t be difficult for him to get on. Taking a breath, Godzilla pushes himself fully onto the thing. After a few moments of the object settling, the King finds that it’s mostly barren and searches for a place to get comfortable.

Taking a few more steps and turning his body a bit, the King lays himself in the large open space of the metal fish. The center will make a good temporary nest until he’s taken to his in Rome.

Letting a huff out, Godzilla lays his head down and waits for the long journey ahead. Hopefully, he didn’t crush the little human that was waving to him earlier. He isn’t sure how Kong would react, but seeing the small human slowly appear in his vision does let him know she’s safe.

At least he wouldn’t have to deal with an angry monkey.

Hopefully…

Chapter 4: Journey Home

Summary:

With Godzilla now on the ship, heading home is now on the way. Unfortunately, it's not all smooth sailing for the King. He just wants to get home, but of course, the humans are getting a little too nosy again. Lots of conversations are had and an incident that pisses everyone off happens.

But, at the end of the tunnel light is always seen.

Chapter Text

The constant hum and vibrations from the metal fish were the only thing that kept the King of the Monsters company. The eldest and her sisters slept, and the small human had gone inside to relay a message to the humans.

Godzilla knew the tiny creatures were itching to get close to the egg and study, but as of now, that was a bad idea. Godzilla has asked the human female to tell the other humans that he wanted some time. When she asked how long it had lasted, he replied that it had been five hours.

Godzilla didn’t think he could trust himself not to try and frighten the humans away. Hell, he might even knock some into the water if they so much as glanced in his direction.

He could almost hear Rodan’s voice mocking him saying something along the lines of ‘Hormones G! I tell ya, it’s hormones!’

He snorted, irritated. He doesn’t understand why he’s in a foul mood. He was content on the ice and waiting for the humans. Once they arrived, he positioned himself onto the large fish and got comfortable.

The thing had started moving and soon they were heading to his nest in Rome. About an hour into the journey, Godzilla’s mood had turned sour. He wasn’t sure what had caused it, but he didn’t want to be a danger.

Especially not to Kong’s human!

That’s a fight he doesn’t want to know the ending to, but something tells him Kong wouldn’t hesitate to end him.

Once telling the female what was going on and reassuring her that he'd be fine, she had left to tell the others.

This is how the King found himself alone with his mood for the next two hours with no improvement.

Three hours have passed in total, and the humans were going to become nosy in two. He'd hoped that his mood would improve soon. Deep in his gut, Godzilla knew that wouldn't be a prayer that the universe would likely answer.

Not in his favor, at least.

Snorting a gust of air from his nose, Godzilla pulled the egg closer to his chest. He had laid his head over it to break the wind. The thought of humans poking their little metal instruments around his egg does not improve his mood. It seems to be making it worse.

No, it is making it worse.

Closing his eyes, Godzilla takes a deep breath. He remembers Mothra saying that deep breathing and listening to nature's song can help calm his anger when she isn't there.

He doesn't attempt this often, but with the tiny creatures nearby, he doesn't want to hurt them. Despite what some of the humans think, he isn't out to harm them. They just have a habit of upsetting nature enough that he has to fix it. And unfortunately, that happens… a lot.

Can the humans stop pissing him off every four seconds?

After deep breathing for a few minutes, Godzilla opened his eyes… and found Kong's little human in front of him, staring.

Lifting his head in surprise, Godzilla lets out a startled noise. He had not heard the human approaching him and he didn't appreciate the jumpscare that much. However, he notes that she’s wearing something different from when he first met her. A purple shirt that’s light in color with some equally light blue pants.

He doesn’t know what the humans call the items individually, but he knows they are called clothes.

“What would possess you to sneak up on me like that?” Godzilla asks, wondering if the child has no self-preservation instincts.

Where are her parents?

“Seeing if you're better.” The human says, “And I didn't sneak.”

Godzilla blinks. Was he so engrossed in his thoughts that he didn't hear her approaching? That wasn't something that happened to the King often, but humans are small— tiny.

So tiny they are easily squashed underfoot even when he's trying to be careful.

Lowering his head until his chin rested on the metal fish, Godzilla responded, “No, I'm not feeling better. Gotten a little worse.”

The female cocked her head to the side. It appears she’s thinking and after a few moments, she speaks, “Nest relocation.”

Godzilla turns his head, so he faces the female more. “Nest relocation? That’s the plan.”

“Everyone suspects that you nested on the ice for too long and now that you have to move, you're not taking it well.” The female explains, “Everyone believes your—”

“Hormonal.” Godzilla finishes with an annoyed grunt, “Yes, everyone's been saying it.”

Both human and Kajiu. It's getting on his nerves.

The female gives him a sympathetic look, “Can't blame everyone for thinking it. It's the most plausible answer.”

“I know, I know, it's getting on my nerves. Hearing it all the time.” Godzilla sighs, “I'm not feeling like having anyone poking around today.”

He just wanted to be on his own for a while. Let everything settle and maybe— if his mood has improved— let the humans satisfy their curiosity.

“Many thought that it would be best to wait until tomorrow. To give you time to settle in.”

Godzilla hums at least some of the humans have heads on their shoulders. Maybe the ride home wouldn't be too irritating.

“I believe that's for the best.”

“It means they'll be very interested when they can.” The female says, her eyes glancing at the egg for a moment.

The ‘and annoying’ was left out, but Godzilla knew that was going to be the case. At least he had more time to prepare.

“My mood should be better enough for that to be allowed,” Godzilla notes the glance and moves his arms a little. Allowing the hidden egg to peak out enough for her to see.

Seeing her eyes light up had caused the King to chuckle. If there's anything that he can look forward to tomorrow is the humans mimicking the same awed expression. He expects to see much fear, which is the normal response that humans have to him and the other Kajius nowadays. But some will also hold the expression of awe, something that he’s missed from the ancient world. But civilizations, come and go. They rise and fall as history has proven over and over.

Pushing the thoughts of the past behind him, Godzilla watches as the female takes a few steps forward. Whether it’s in moments of awe or testing boundaries, Godzilla doesn’t feel his irritation rising. But it hasn’t gone down either.

“Getting a little close there,” Godzilla warns, though his voice is soft.

The female moved back a few steps, a sheepish smile pulled on her face, “Sorry.”

“It’s fine.” Godzilla yawns, sleep crawling itself onto the Kaiju again. “Something tells me that I’m going to be dealing with that for most of tomorrow.”

Though telling the humans that their overstepping would be… a little troublesome. Not all humans were blessed in the way of speaking to the Kaijus like the human in front of him. He’ll have to convey what he wants through sound and body language, but whether the humans interpret what he’s saying correctly is up for debate.

Maybe it would be best for the female human to be nearby. At least he could tell her what he was feeling and if the other humans needed to step away. But he didn’t want to keep the human child if she was needed elsewhere.

Though part of him wasn’t too thrilled that the child had been brought in the first place, she was the only one who could talk to him and relay it back to the humans. Hopefully, the trip home won’t be too long.

“There’s only a few who are going to be coming down and looking at you and the egg tomorrow.”

Godzilla sighs in relief, thankful for small mercies. A small group of humans should be easy for him to handle and it's not a whole metal fish’s worth either! Besides how many humans are needed to keep this metal fish afloat?

“That is easier to handle than every human on this metal fish,” Godzilla grumbles. His mood had brightened a little, but the vibrations and humming of the thing still ticked a nerve.

He noticed the child’s face and snorted, “What?”

“Metal fish?” The female asks, confused. “This is a ship. An aircraft carrier.”

“And did I know that? No. I don’t speak human all that much.” Godzilla huffed, “I live in the ocean, if I see something that’s in it, I might call it a fish.”

The female shook her head before rubbing her hands on her face, “I guess that makes sense.”

Godzilla had a feeling that the female didn’t believe that his thinking did make sense. He’s not at all surprised by this, since humans have different ways of thinking than Kaijus.

“Don’t think about it too much.” Godzilla snorts, “You’ll end up with a headache.”

“I think I have one now.” The child says.

“Oh well.” Godzilla shrugs… or at least tries to. Having his arms around his egg did limit a bit of movement. “Most Kajius think and speak like that anyways.”

One of the downsides of being able to speak with creatures that are hundreds, thousands, or eons older than you is that the way they speak and think can cause some issues with communicating. Luckily, Godzilla knows that he and some of the others are fast learners.

Mothra is the most evident with Rodan being second.

“Right.”

Godzilla turns his head from the female and yawns. Since there wasn’t much for him to do, the ancient Gojira decided that getting some sleep would be best.

“Jia!”

A voice calls out, to which Godzilla turns to see who has spoken. The human child— Jia— follows suit. A woman comes jogging the both of them. The hair on her head is blonde and she appears to be a woman in her middle age. She wears a simple light red T-shirt with some navy pants. An adult, Godzilla concludes.

She looks at Godzilla with the awe that he’s seen many times when he used to visit human civilizations in ancient times. He notes her hand reaching out and keeps himself still. He isn’t sure if the female will place her hand on him like that human male had done, but that is for her to decide.

Feeling the small hand against his scales, Godzilla blinked his eyes and gave a purr at the tiny warmth coming from the human. This seemed to encourage the female as she placed her other hand on his scales.

How has it been since he’s left the touch of a human?

What was only a few seconds for Godzilla, must have felt like an eternity to the human women. But the child— no, Jia— had tapped the woman and made some strange movements with her fingers, to which the woman did the same. He didn’t know what the humans were saying, but he knew they were communicating.

Jia nods to the woman before turning to him and saying, “I have to go. Dinner’s ready.”

Godzilla nods, “I think I’ll get some sleep.”

Watching the two leave, Godzilla closes his eyes and lets himself drift into sleep.

Godzilla had found out that he didn’t like waking up to a human next to him. Especially if it's a group wearing white coats and looking him over. They had metal squares in their hands and some were speaking to each other in a hushed tone. He had thought the humans would have waited until he had been awake for a while. He isn’t sure what possessed the tiny creatures to start examining him and the egg while he slept, but someone here doesn’t have a brain.

With a snort and the tip of his tail thumping against the ship, the humans around him freeze. It seems they had not expected him to wake up or they had hoped to be finished before he had awakened. Whether the case may be, Godzilla isn’t too happy about this little surprise. He does his best to cover the egg with his arms, neck, and face. He didn’t care if any of the humans ended up upset over this. He’s upset by this!

The most common expression he saw was nervousness like they’d been busted doing something they shouldn’t have— which they were— but a few had awe mixed as well. He didn’t know if he should praise the humans for being so quiet that he didn’t notice them or be annoyed that they were able to be quiet enough to not disturb his rest.

This wasn’t something he wanted to experience again. Jia had snuck up on him earlier, but he wasn’t sleeping. He had been trying to medicate. He isn’t too thrilled to have to deal with more than one human magician. At least with Jia, he could talk to her, but with the humans around him, he couldn’t.

The thought of flicking some into the waters below had crossed his mind and he believed it would have served as a lesson to not do something so foolish, but Jia might get mad and give him a scolding. If not her, then Mothra definitely would if she found out.

So he decides to play nice.

He wanted to give the humans a piece of his mind and tell them that this was a bad idea. What if he’d woken up and had not seen them and moved? They could have been crushed, rolled on, or tossed into water without him knowing.

As he scans the humans, he notices one is off away from the group. It’s female and wearing a white coat. He isn’t sure why this one is away from the group, but he sees the disappointment and annoyance on her face. At least he has something in common with her.

“And I thought I told you all that this was a bad idea.”

Godzilla turned his head to find three more humans coming his way and something told him that he was about to witness something very entertaining. Maybe one of the humans coming to him would have a brain in their head. The tone of voice from one of the humans may indicate as such.

Once here, Godzilla recognizes two of the three humans. One is from his fight with the MUTOs and the other is the sire of the human child that had roared at Ghidorah. He had not expected to see these two again, but with so many unfamiliar faces, it was a nice welcome.

He didn’t recognize the third human of the bunch, but since he was with the other two and annoyed, Godzilla assumed he was one of the smart ones.

“I thought I told you to not start poking around until he’s been awake for a while.” The human sire says, clearly irritated by the situation.

“Dude, Jia isn’t even up yet.” The third human said, “It’s earlier in the morning and most of us haven’t had breakfast. This exam can wait.”

“But, sire, this is vital inform—” One of the white coats, a female, tried to say.

“Enough.” The human from the MUTO battle says, “You were given clear instructions on when this could be done safely. You're all lucky that none of you were crushed or thrown overboard.”

“What would have happened if any of you had gone overboard? Do any of you know how fast this ship’s going? What would happen if some of y'all got stuck under him? The likelihood of getting you out from under him alive is slim to none.” The third human had his hands on his hips and was shaking his head. “I’m all for loving the job and being excited when something big as this comes by, but what you all did was dangerous, even by my standards.”

“Trapper has a point,” The human sire says, “Now what’s going to happen is we’re all going inside and figuring out why the exam was done so early.”

“Thanks, man.” The human named Trapper nodded at the other.

“But, Mark—”

“No. I don’t want to hear it.” Mark cuts one of the white coats off, this time a male. “I’m not in a good mood.”

While the humans continue to argue, Godzilla turns his attention to the female white coat. She had drawn closer and he could make out what this female human looked like. She had long black hair that was up in a ponytail, ivory skin with freckles on her face, and her eyes were blue like the ocean. Under her white coat was a red dress shirt and she had on a pair of dress pants.

“I had warned them, but they didn’t listen.”

“I figured as much.” Mark sighs.

“Thank you for having your assistant notify us of this.” The human from the MUTO battle says.

Godzilla doesn’t know what the human’s name is but he’s got to think of something else to call him other than “human from MUTO battle”. He’ll think of something once everything has settled down.

After some more fighting, the white coats were forced back into the ship. Many were grumbling or blaming one another, but Godzilla cared to not listen anymore. The infighting between the humans had gotten boring.

Now he just wanted time to himself and his egg, but four of the humans had not left. The three males and the white-coated female. They seemed to be speaking in hushed whispers, but Godzilla toned them out. He’s had enough of hearing humans for the day and the day hasn’t even started.

But if it is early morning, then that means he’s slept all evening and night. The last he spoke to Jia was when she was called in for dinner and now the humans had been talking about breakfast.

At least the little ones are still asleep along with the other Kaijus. He’s thankful for the small mercies that he’s been getting. And Rodan has been quiet as well. Godzilla makes a note to check on the Fire Kaiju sometime later.

Turning his attention back to the humans he overhears Trapper, and the female talk about looking over some scans that the previous group of humans had collected. Something along the lines of having a baseline to compare against later scans.

“If he’s willing to have an exam done later,” Mark says.

Which Godzilla saw as a far point. Having uncurled himself from his egg, the Kaiju does try to get a bit more comfortable. Maybe he’ll allow one later in the day once everything from this morning has blown over.

The humans nodded in agreement with Mark and soon the four were heading to the large structure on the ship. The one where Godzilla believes the humans are residing. He’s seen Jia and the woman she was with head there when they had dinner. He wondered what the inside looked like, but for now, he just wanted to be alone before Jia woke up.

With a yawn and knowing his sleep was rudely interrupted, Godzilla closed his eyes to get a bit more shut. Maybe he’ll wake up in a much better mood than he had previously. And hopefully not to more human magicians…

… Some cosmic force must be punishing him for a reason he cannot fathom.

He had woken up to find a human staring at him… again! At least this time it was Jia, but he was starting to get annoyed with this. Though to be frank, Jia wasn’t staring at him when he had woken up. She was on that metal square thing that the humans from earlier had, but hers was smaller. She only looked up at him when he had lifted his head and yawned.

“I heard about this morning.” She says once he’s gotten comfortable again. “I thought they’d wait.”

“Seems you weren’t the only one thinking the same.” Godzilla snorted.

“You slept for a while. It’s past noon.”

“So how have I been sleeping?” He asks. “They woke me up quite early.”

“About five more hours.” She answers, “Do you want an exam done?”

He thought for a moment. He’s tempted to say no and let the humans wallow in mercy. They had been told when to do the exam to maximize safety. But they jumped the gun and for that, they should deal with the consequences.

“If the human named Trapper and the female in the white coat are doing it, then I’m fine. Mark and the other male can come if they want.” Godzilla says, “But no one else.”

“I’ll let them know.” Jia nods, then makes her way to where the humans are in the structure.

Soon the four humans had come out and the exam was done within minutes. They had taken a few blood samples along with some of his dried and loose scales. But the exam was quick and painless.

“Well, Big Guy, you’re all good. Nothing out of the ordinary that needs to be taken care of.” Trapper said, not looking up from the metal square in his hands, “There’s a drop in radiation, but nothing to worry about.”

Godzilla took the information in and pondered it over. He hasn’t fed in a while so that could be why his radiation levels had gone down. He was also warming the egg as well and that took consuming radiation to power his controlled charge.

“Now to tell you, Big Guy,” Trapper says, “The egg is feeding off your radiation. While it's only a little, it’s enough that you’ll need to find something to eat. I suppose once a month should be good, but if you don’t feed regularly, you’ll start to get sick.”

Oh…

Well, he didn’t expect this, but his health wasn’t at risk. So, he’d have to keep an eye on how hungry he was feeling, and a monthly feed should be too hard to do. Maybe that explained why he wanted to sleep all the time.

With the exam over and the humans have returned to the structure, he’s left alone with the ship’s humming and the ocean’s song. Soon sleep is welcoming the King with a warm embrace and as he falls, the thought of going and needing to feed soon crosses his mind for a fraction of a second.

“Hey. Big Guy! Come on Big Guy, you got to wake up.”

Godzilla blinks himself awake as the human's voice calls out to him a few more times. Yawning, he looks around and finds Trapper waving his arms. And like a smart human, he’s a bit away from the Kaiju. Far enough to not get crushed or tossed into the ocean if he had woken in a panic.

He yawns as the human comes closer.

“We're in Rome now. Just a few more hours and you’ll be home.” Trapper says once he’s close enough. Godzilla notes the human is looking a bit worried, “You’ve been sleeping for three days, and your radiation has dropped enough to be quite noticeable.  You might need to feed soon.”

And Godzilla agreed. He feels sluggish even after a three-day nap. That’s not normal and he’d be taking Trapper's advice. Once the egg has been settled into his nest first, then he finds a willing babysitter. He wants to wait but if he’s going to take care of young, he needs to take care of his health to do so.

Trapper leaves and the hours fly by. Now, Godzilla finds himself stepping off the ship and walking his way through the canal to the Colosseum. He had meant to contact Rodan and check on how the nest was looking, but he’ll see for himself soon enough.

As he draws closer to his nest, the first thing that hits his nose is the scent of warm wood. He had not told Rodan what to use to fill his nest, but trees or wood chips had to be part of the nesting material.

Now on top of his nest, Godzilla finds the Colosseum’s bottom has been filled with trees and shrubbery. All have Rodan’s signature burn marks, but the scent released is pleasant. All are patched together with silk. Lending his head down, Godzilla sniffs the area before letting a purr out.

This silk is familiar.

Her presence is the second thing that his senses pick up, drawing closer and closer. Lifting his head, he looks in front of him and sees her silhouette. The Sun’s light hits her wings, making the colors shimmer in vibrant hues.

He calls to her and she replies with a trill as she lands near the Colosseum. Taking ginger steps, she approaches his side and looks at the egg in his arms. Brings her face closer she sniffs with antennae twitching. Soon a soft trill comes, and she reaches out for the egg.

With a hum, Godzilla allows her to take the egg. He looks to the Colosseum again and steps over the lowest point, lifting his leg as high as he can. Once in the nest and settled, he watches as Mothra climbs in. Her steps were calculated and light as ever and the egg safely in her limbs.

After a few moments, she sets the egg in reach of his arms and settles herself down with most of the egg being covered by his furry body. The egg nestled between the two of them, safe and warm.

“Have you thought of names?” Her voice was soft as if to not wake the sleeping little ones.

“I have not.” Godzilla whisper-yawns.

She hums and nuzzles herself close, “There’s time to talk about such a thing later.”

Godzilla agrees. For now, all he wanted was to just go back to sleep in the warmth of his Queen and their little egg.

Chapter Text

Warm.

It’s the first thing that came to Godzilla’s mind when he woke. He isn’t sure how long he’s been sleeping, but waking to find Mothra’s peaceful sleeping face was always a sight to see.

He notices that Mothra had changed positions while he slept. Earlier she had been on her side facing towards him. Now she sleeps with her back to the sky, wings draped over her like a blanket.

With a hum, Godzilla uses a gentle touch and moves his Queen's wing. Having not seen the egg when he woke up, he suspected that Mothra had slipped herself on top of it. Which is something she is known for when she’s looking after an egg that is not her own.

A smile pulls on his face as he spots the golden egg nestled in the Queen's limbs, her body providing warmth and safety. While he found it strange that Mothra had laid herself over the egg, he had an inkling of why.

The humans most likely had gotten a little pesky while he slept. He hasn’t even been home for a day, and he wouldn’t be surprised if the humans had gotten too excited and tried to get some aerial shots of his and Mothra’s egg.

Letting her wing fall, Godzilla stretched before curling himself around the sleeping moth. Going by what the human from the ship had said, he would need to feed soon. Since the eldest and her sisters have been feeding on his radiation, he needs to replenish it to keep the three healthy and growing.

As much as he needed to get himself ready to feed, Godzilla wanted to stay curled up in the warmth that came from the Sun and his Queen. Sleep was the only thing that stayed prominent in his mind. It’s the only thing his body seemed to crave the most.

Stay awake, stay awake.

If he falls asleep now, Godzilla is sure he’ll sleep until next week. But everything felt warm, and the call of sleep was inviting. Very inviting.

There’s movement next to him and Godzilla turns his head to find Mothra blinking her eyes open. With a yawn she stretches before laying on her side, the egg is now exposed to the cool air and glittering in the sun’s light.

“How long have you been up?”

“A few minutes at best.” Godzilla hums, “Why were you sleeping on top of the little ones?”

She snorts, “They had gotten a little noisy.”

Godzilla gives an amused snort, not at all surprised by her answer. The humans had gotten noisy while he slept.

“They weren't awakened, were they?”

“No.” Mothra yawns, “Sleeping like a baby.”

“Babies.” Godzilla corrects, “Three heads.”

Mothra hums with another stretch. Her smaller arms lay lazily over the egg. “This one is different.”

Godzilla looks at the egg and agrees. From the conversations he had with the eldest, he knows that this Ghidorah is not like the one he fought.

“I noticed the same when I first found them. Though they were almost dead.” Godzilla explains, “Barely hanging on when I found them.”

Mothra angles her head to the egg. “They’re fine now, rather healthy.”

“I warmed them for quite a while.” Godzilla yawns, “The eldest was a talkative thing afterward.”

Godzilla finds Mothra staring at him with a puzzled expression. The ancient Gojira titles his head.

“What?”

“Warmed them?” Mothra’s closest antenna flicks, “How?”

“Controlled charge,” Godzilla says.

“How long?” Mothra lifts herself into a half-sitting position.

“It wasn’t that—”

“Don’t lie.” Mothra interrupts, narrowing her eyes at the other.

Godzilla turns his head from the Moth. He was hoping to downplay how long he had warmed the egg due to not remembering. The radiation drain and constant sleeping had muddled the days into a single blur.

“I don’t… know.” Godzilla finally says, “The days have blurred together.”

Godzilla watches as the Moth shakes her head with a huff. He'd known that she wouldn’t be pleased with the answer.

He knew more was to come and he couldn't be surprised.

“When’s the last time you’ve fed?”

He knew she wasn’t going to like the answer.

“When I had to prepare to fight the False King and Shimo.”

The ancient Gojira knew he needed to feed as his radiation supplies the little ones with nutrition as they grow. He also knew that Mothra would discover this if she hadn't already.

She lifts herself until she’s standing, then lowers her head and sniffs him.

“Your radiation is low.” She turns her head to him, “You need to feed.”

“I’m aware.” Godzilla yawns. He wants to go back to sleep. “Tired.”

“Up.”

Godzilla looks at his Queen and snorts. “Really?”

“Yes, now up,” Mothra says, moving to the base of Godzilla's tail and headbutting.

With a bit of grumbling, Godzilla gets up. He knows that if headbutting doesn’t get him moving soon, Mothra will switch to using her limbs to tap him until he does. While the sharp tips don’t pierce his skin, the pokes become an irritation.

“And who’s looking after the little one—”

Godzilla finds that Mothra had laid herself around the egg looking rather content. She turned her gaze to the other and was looking at him expectantly.

“I better not find my nest covered in silk.” Godzilla huffs, knowing that if she’s given the chance, Mothra will cover his nest in silk to annoy him.

She’ll even watch him remove it for the entertainment value, just to wait until he's sleeping to do it again. This isn’t the first time Godzilla could recall the moth being a mischievous creature. At least she’s mostly harmless in such moods.

“And if you do?” Mothra says, a sparkle in her eye.

Oh, he knew she was trying to dare him to cry challenge. While a younger, more inexperienced Godzilla would have fallen for such a thing, he knew better. Spending years upon years with his Queen has given him lessons to learn from.

“You think I'll fall for that?” He snorted, knowing his Queen wouldn't do anything unless he was interested.

The little ones could be used as a deterrent, if she did try anything. While he wouldn't be cruel in forbidding her from being a mother, Godzilla would find small ways to annoy her.

He is sure this has crossed her mind. She wasn't Queen of the Monsters for nothing.

“Seems you have grown a little wise?” Mothra hums, though that sparkle had not left her eyes.

“You can say that.”

Godzilla turns his attention and throws his feelers out. He wasn't looking for a massive source of radiation, just something that could last him for a month or more. He knows he could command the other to wake and bring him what he needs, but he isn't ready to have all or most of the Kajius near his nest.

This is something he'll speak to Mothra about later.

Pinpointing a suitable source, Godzilla leaves his nest at the lowest point. He didn't want to damage the structure further than he already had. He had not intended to cause damage when he had left to evolve and had tried to exit at the structure’s lowest point, but his size was something he couldn't control.

Maybe some of Mothra’s silk here and there wouldn't be too bad. A bit of support couldn't hurt, right?

“I should be gone for about a day.” Godzilla says, “Found a source nearby.”

He doubts anything will happen while he's gone, but there's a small part of him deep in the back of his mind that still voices the concern. He supposes this is natural with having young.

At least with Mothra there, his nerves have settled. A day away shouldn't be so bad.

“See you when you get back.” Mothra chirps. Whether she sensed his sudden discomfort about leaving, she gave no indication.

With a nod, Godzilla heads to the water.

Maybe he should head back.

This was a bad idea.

Good god, what if something happens to Mothra and the little ones while he's gone?

So many possibilities ran through Godzilla's head that he debated five times if he should head back. He could push this feeding back a few weeks right? He wasn't in that much danger.

The humans' little machines could have been wrong. With so many to handle, surely something could have malfunctioned.

But the human— Trapper, was it? He sounded concerned and sincere. Mankind may not be the biggest fans of him, but at least some were there for him.

Like the ones that brought the ship that carried him and the little ones’ egg to his nest. At least some could be trusted.

Thank the heavens that Mothra had fallen asleep a while after he left. If she'd been awake, he would have to contend with her asking questions. He knows that at this moment questions would not have helped calm his nerves.

Swimming through the water, Godzilla flares his gills out and purrs when feeling the cold water flowing over them. Since his new nest wasn’t in the ocean like his old one, the air felt a bit thinner but was still breathable. The Sun is a nice touch, but it’s drying his scales out and leaving them flakey.

But he’s not going to move his nest to a new one. Rodan had worked hard to fill his nest, and the humans had assisted in getting him and the egg home. There are very few safe places for him to go and most are either underwater or surrounded by water.

He’s also a lazy creature, so his new nest will do just fine.

Slowing to a stop, Godzilla has arrived at the source location. Looking around the only thing he sees is a rock face and the open ocean. Narrowing his eyes and scanning, he finds a fissure in the rock that’s just big enough for him to slip through. The radiation source is located deep within the Earth, and he isn’t sure if this opening would lead him down.

While finding the scour and traveling to it had taken him no time at all, absorbing was another matter. This wasn’t a nuke being blown in his face to give him instant easily absorbable radiation, he’ll have to take some time absorbing what he can. He didn’t want to leave Mothra and the little ones alone for too long and had given himself a day to take in as much as he could.

Sighing, Godzilla turns his nose down and swims toward the bottom of the ocean until he can find a suitable way to the source. If he isn’t able to, then he’s going to make one. He doesn’t want to use the atomic breath to bore a tunnel to the radiation as this would use his already low supply. He would have laid in the Sun and recovered by absorbing the radiation provided, but with the little ones’ feeding, that wasn’t a viable choice.

The last thing he wanted was to wake up so drained that he couldn't move, let alone survive.

As he traveled the sunlight grew dimmer and dimmer until it could no longer pierce the layers. The murky black was all that the human eye could see, but Godzilla's night vision was so great that human eyes and machines could not comprehend it.

Once on the ocean floor, Godzilla looks at the wall and scans. He's looking for any fissures or openings that he could use to get to the radiation. If he didn't find any, then he's going to make one.

Unfortunately, he didn't find anything. So, plan B it is. Swimming a distance away and locating where the source was, Godzilla charges a breath and fires.

Watching his breath burn a passage to where he needed to go, the Kaiju's mind began to wonder about the little ones and when they would hatch. He doesn't know how long a Ghidorah egg incubates or if there are any effects to one hatching. But that is something he and the rest were going to have to deal with.

Ending the breath with a close of his mouth and swimming closer to the newly created tunnel, Godzilla can sense the radiation and knows that he’s made a straight passage to it. With a satisfied grin, he swims through the warm tunnel until he finds a massive cavern.

Looking up, he sees some warm light shimmering from above the water. With an intrigued hum, he surfaces and finds a marvel.

He has surfaced into a cavern with an abandoned temple. The temple is vast and massive enough to hold at least three Kaijus with comfort. Lava flowed from cracks and crevices, giving an orange glow to the place and warmth. The radiation is enough to supply him for a few years if he ever wants to set himself up here.

It reminds him of his old nest before the human had come to give him an offering and— ultimately— his life. He did not know the human’s name, but that human had been the one to give him the strength to defeat Ghidorah and save the planet. Even if the nuke had given him too much radiation to handle, Godzilla was thankful to the Tiny One and would have gladly given his life to end Ghidorah’s reign.

Using the submerged steps, Godzilla climbs out of the water and finds that the temple is structured like that of the one in his long-gone lair. He had not expected to find another temple built for a Gojira, but this warms his heart. At least some of the ancient history is still standing and not lost to time. The humans that once worshiped him and his kind still have some of their structures, their history still here, right under his feet.

He wasn’t going to let the humans find this place. No, he didn’t trust them enough to let such precious and invaluable history be erased again. He didn’t blame the human that had given him a new life, and new breath in his lungs, but not all were like him.

Maybe one day in the far future he’ll allow himself to lead the humans here, but as of now, he can’t take the chance.

Walking up the steps and landing, Godzilla comes to a place where he can lie down and rest. He had a little over 24 hours he could spend here absorbing as much radiation as he could. He doubted the humans would do anything foolish while he was gone, but knowing they’d gotten nosy while he and Mothra were sleeping didn’t give the King high hopes. Mothra could easily fend the humans off with a flap of her wings or a growl, but she’s quite kind to the tiny creatures. He wouldn’t be surprised if she allowed a few to come close to the egg.

He trusts his Queen’s judgment and knowing that Jia can communicate to her as she can with him, his nerves settle and sleep’s lullaby calls. At least he could sleep without the annoying sounds of a bustling human settlement. But once in a while, the sounds take him back to times older and memories are relived in dreams.

A yawn pulls from his lips and Godzilla feels contentment filling his body. He’s drifting off when a voice comes through the link.

“Is there… anyone awake?”

The Queen MUTO’s soft voice sounds in his head. He had not expected anyone to be up since the little ones were fine. Maybe he had not called for the others to return to sleep? He isn’t sure, but he answers the female.

“Is everything alright?” Godzilla asks

“I believe everything is fine.” She says, “I’m just… unable to sleep.”

Godzilla lets out a hum, “Anyone else up?”

Maybe the Queen MUTO is having an off day. He knows that the others have off days and sleeping doesn’t come easy. Behemoth comes to mind when thinking of which Kaiju has had the most 'off' days. Most of the time the mammoth-sloth Kaiju would wait a day or so. If he had not fallen back asleep, then he’d check his territory for anything that could cause the disturbance and if that didn’t do the trick, he’d let Godzilla know.

Godzilla presumes this is what the female MUTO is experiencing, but to cover his bases he asks the question. And with no other voicing that they’re awake, Godzilla files that away.

“Seems like everyone else is sleeping.” He says, “Maybe you're having an off day.”

“That could be a possibility.” She muses, though her voice sounds… unsure.

“What is it?” Godzilla asks, noticing the tone.

“I'm… not sure.” She responds, “This is something I have not… dealt with."

“You have dealt with something like this before,” Godzilla states, though confused. The little ones’ having called out for help was something she and all the others had experienced.

“That particular incident had a reason.” The MUTO’s voice is playful, but it changes to one of uncertainty quickly. “This does not.”

Godzilla wanted to sass the female back. Many don’t know that he could be just as sassy or more so if he wanted to. He had gotten into many sass battles with Mothra over the years. But he decided to focus on MUTO’s uncertainty. She was correct in her statement of the early event, but he didn’t sense that would cause her to be unsettled enough to not return to sleep.

“Is there anything nearby that could be causing you to stay up?”

The link is silent for a moment before the female MUTO speaks, “There is nothing… that I can sense.”

Godzilla hums as his brain starts to storm. If the female MUTO isn’t sensing any disturbance, then the environment isn’t the reason why she is awake. Knowing she’s part of the MUTO species, Godzilla wonders if she’s feeling lonely. The Queen MUTO is the only one on Earth that is left. The female and male had been killed years ago with their offspring. He isn’t sure how the female feels about the incident, but he is doing his job. If only the humans had not been so meddling with the Kajius, then the male and female would not have awoken when they had.

Stretching out, Godzilla asks the MUTO another question, “Could you be bored?”

“Bored?”

“Yes,” he says, “Bored.”

“How could boredom be the cause?”

Godzilla blinked. He knows that he doesn’t speak with the others much, but surely, they’ve spoken to each other while he sleeps or takes care of his duties. But then he remembers that he keeps the others in dormancy for most of the time. The Queen MUTO wouldn’t have many conversations with the others or himself.

Boredom wouldn’t be something one experiences with their sleeping.

“Well, you and the others are more awake than normal. There might not be anything entertaining or to keep you busy in the area and if you don’t have anything to keep you busy, boredom can be something that is experienced.” Godzilla did his best to explain. He’s not good at this.

Mothra you up? Help?

“Now with boredom, it can cause some to be a bit… destructive. Now this is an issue when the humans are involved, which in turn, means I have to get involved and—”

“You end up pummeling the Kaiju to death.” The Queen MUTO says.

“... Well, it’s supposed to be ‘into submission’ but some don’t… cut.”

This left the air in awkwardness. Godzilla didn’t know how to continue from this. He had given many Kajius that chance to bow and submit. Most do, but some don’t and try their luck. He has tried to be merciful and even given those who challenge him a second or third chance.

But there were some who he couldn’t allow to live. Even if he wanted to, he had to protect nature’s balance and if a Kaiju living or reproducing caused imbalance, then he had no choice.

Kaijus like; Behemoth, Rodan, Methuselah, and more all fell into the first category.

Scylla and Tiamat were two that had fallen into the second category.

The male and female MUTO fell into the third.

“I’m not mad. It was understandable.”

Godzilla blinks and stumbles over his words, “I— what— huh?”

“I’m not mad about the male and female being killed.” The female MUTO says, “My species are parasitic and aggressive. Those two reproducing would have been… a catastrophic event. I was ok with all of their deaths.”

Godzilla agrees with the Female MUTO. If the two had successfully bred, he wouldn’t have been able to save the planet. Everything in his power would not have done anything to stop that infestation. And yet, he was surprised to hear the female describe her kind as parasitic.

Godzilla had always found the Queen MUTO to be intriguing. She wasn’t like the other MUTOs he had faced. She was docile compared to members of her species and rather polite when speaking. She had no intention of looking for a mate to produce young and was ok with him killing three members of her species.

She was a strange one to him, but a mystery he’d like to unravel in due time.

If time would allow him that is. Time was a fickle thing and with the humans meddling about he didn't see himself lasting forever like he once did when he was a pup.

Or was that just him maturing with age and experience?

Giving a long yawn, Godzilla knew he would fall into sleep quite soon. And luck must be on his side as Mothra’s voice came over the link.

She must have sensed how tired he was because she immediately said she would keep an eye on everyone as he slept.

With word of thanks, Godzilla closes the link and finally allows sleep to claim him.

Chapter 6: Recovery and Issues at Home

Summary:

Godzilla wakes from his nap and founds out there's some issues going on at home.
This does not sit well with the Gojira, especially since his Queen in the nest with the egg.

Chapter Text

Godzilla isn’t sure how long he had slept, but that nap was one of the best he’s had. While not fully charged in terms of radiation, he can tell that his levels have increased. The past few naps he’s had have left him more tired than rested. But this time he feels more rested.

Yawning with a long stretch, he pokes at the link and finds it dead silent. So, it seems everyone is sleeping…

… For now.

He isn’t sure why the others are still awake. Mothra herself stated that the little ones were found and are healthy as can be. This leaves the King puzzled, and answers are nowhere in sight.

With nothing to do and no one to speak to, Godzilla is about to slip back into sleep.

“Hello?”

Godzilla perks up at the voice. It’s new and he suspects it's one of the other heads from the female Ghidorah.

“So, someone is awake.” Godzilla hums.

“And here I thought everyone was asleep.” The voice says.

“Could say the same.” Godzilla responds, “How long have you been up?”

“A few hours, I think.” The voice says, “I didn’t keep track. Everyone was very chatty when I woke up.”

“Oh, really now?” Godzilla hums, wondering what the others are speaking about. “And what was going on while I was sleeping?”

“A lot of things. The one named Rodan was chatting it up the most.” The voice explains, “Apparently he likes where he’s roosted and the attention the little creatures give, though he says that some are being a little nosy.”

Godzilla had a feeling knowing which humans were being nosy with the fire kaiju. With Rodan and the others not resting like normal, he’s not surprised that the humans from Monarch are being more annoying than usual. The humans even spied on him and Mothra while he had been sleeping. And he hadn’t even been in his nest for a day when the little creatures had done this. So, the others being awake would cause the humans to lose their minds, but it was an opportunity for both sides to study each other.

Hopefully, everyone wouldn’t annoy each other to the point of fighting.

“I’m not surprised.” Godzilla sighs, “Rodan has a point.”

“These… creatures can’t be that annoying, can they?”

“Oh, you and your sisters will find out once you three are older.” Godzilla chuckles, though he had a feeling that once the sisters hatch, they’ll find out sooner rather than later.

“You know I have sisters!” The female chirps, “You’ve spoken to the oldest, haven’t you?”

“I have,” Godzilla confirms. “She’s the one who called out for help.”

“I’ve heard of the incident but wasn’t… fully awake for it.” The female says.

“What do you remember?” Godzilla asks, hopefully, to get some useful information.

“Cold. Everything was cold.” The female says, “I couldn’t hear that well either. It was like underwater or having something stuffed into your ears. The eldest was… closest to the surface than I or the youngest.”

“... Closest to the surface?” Godzilla repeats, “What does that mean?”

“The eldest pushed my head and the youngest's against our body for warmth. My eldest sister was the only one who had her head closest to the eggshell.” The middle sister explained. “She had put us to sleep, trying to conserve what little energy we had.”

“I see so that she could hear more than you.” Godzilla understood. So, the eldest had put her sisters to sleep and kept herself close to the eggshell to call for help and hear out from anyone who heard the distress call.

“Yes. She had called out twice, but I had fallen asleep.” The middle sister says, “I’m unsure if she had called out again.”

“I was able to find your and your sister's egg. I’m not sure how many times she called out, but me and the others only heard two.” Godzilla says, “Had she called out more?”

“It’s possible.” The middle head says, “We didn’t have a lot of energy to spare. I’m surprised she could call out loud enough for anyone to hear. We were… weak. Very weak. The youngest was unresponsive at the time.”

Godzilla notes the tone shift of the middle sister. She’s upset, just like the time when he was speaking alone with the eldest. With a gentle purr through the link, Godzilla says, “I’m sure your youngest sister will wake up soon. She may take a bit longer, but I’m sure she’ll be fine. I found you and your sisters quickly.”

“I heard. Was told that you kept us warm for a while.” The middle sister’s voice sounded a bit more chipper.

“I did.” Godzilla hums, “It took a bit out of me to do so, but I did get you and your sisters' home.”

“When are you coming back?” The middle sister asks, “The moth is… warm, but not that warm.”

Godzilla stifles a snort. He knows that Mothra’s radiation is as great as his, but he believes his Queen is rather warm. However, her warmth is more due to her furry body and using her wings to make a cocoon of sorts. Godzilla had a feeling the middle sister would prefer a Mothra’s body warmth once they hatch.

“She’s warm, just not in the way that I am.” Godzilla says, “I’m sure once you and your sisters hatch, you’ll prefer her over me.”

“Doubtful.” The middle sister snorts, and then she yawns. “The eldest maybe.”

Godzilla snorts out a laugh, “Is that so?”

“Yeah… sure.” The middle sister yawns again.

“Why don’t you get some sleep.” Godzilla hums, “I’ll be home as soon as I can.”

“Promise?”

“Of course, I do.” Godzilla says, “Now try to get some sleep.”
There’s a mumble from the other, but soon the link is quiet. With a hum, Godzilla stretches and looks around the cavern. Nostalgia from his old lair comes back and the Gorjia lets out a mournful whine. He misses his lair, the safety and sense of home that it had given him for years were gone in a flash of white.

Shaking his head, Godzilla pulls himself from the memories. Being upset about the past will not bring it back. The human had done what he needed to, and Godzilla understood, but losing his home still stung.

Though he wonders, did it sting the other humans when that one sacrificed himself?

He suspects that the ones he saw on that floating thing were heartbroken when one of their own had given his life, but he had sensed that they knew the human had purposely given his life for him.

Giving a huff, Godzilla knows he could ask Jia some questions that she could give to the other humans of Monarch to answer. But he isn’t sure when he will see Jia again since the human female has her life to deal with. For now, he files that objective away until he sees the human again.

A yawn comes from him and with nothing better to do, Godzilla lets himself fall back to sleep.

“Big G? Hey Big G? Big G, you up?”

Mumbles under his breath after yawning, Godzilla wakes up to the sound of Rodan poking the link. There were more voices, but he couldn’t make out what was being said. Stretching, Godzilla prepares himself for whatever may come when answering.

“I’m up.” Godzilla says, “What is it?”

“Oh good, you're up.” Rodan says, “So, when do you plan on heading home?”

Godzilla blinks at the question and notes that the link has gone quiet. “After I’ve absorbed enough radiation, I can travel home and keep the little ones safe and healthy. Why?”

“Well…” Rodan says with a hint of sass in his voice, “Someone’s a bit… mad at you.”
A bit mad?

What in the world was Rodan saying?

“Does someone not know what a promise is?”

The upset voice of the middle sister sounds through the link like a firecracker. Godzilla sighed to himself, knowing that he had not told the little one when he was coming home. Just had he would come home. It appears that he may not have explained this to the little one.

“Ok, ok.” Godzilla calls out, “What’s all the huffy about?”

“You said you’d be home. But I woke up and you're not here!” The middle yells. “You promised you’d be home.”

Godzilla took a breath and calmed his temper. He didn’t do well when being yelled at, but the little one was still a baby—hatching that had not hatched yet and he knew that the little ones wouldn’t be able to handle their emotions like an adult could.

“Hey, now…” The Queen MUTO’s voice comes in soft, “We understand you're upset, but you can tell him you're upset without yelling.”

“Queen MUTO, I wouldn’t—” Behemoth starts.

“But!” The middle one says.

“It’s ok.” Godzilla interrupts all, “It’s ok, it’s ok. I’m not mad.”

The link is silent for a moment, until Godzilla asks, “Now what has you so upset?”

“You said you’d come home.” The middle one huffs. “I woke up and you weren’t there.”

“Ok, ok. So, you're upset that I wasn’t home when you woke up.” Godzilla nods, “There’s understandable, I get it. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you upset about me not being home. I’m farther away from home than I had thought.”

In truth, he had not started his journey home. He had fallen asleep so he could absorb more radiation. He isn’t up to one hundred percent health, but he suspects that a few more hours would allow him to head home and keep feeding the little ones for another month or so. Now, he’s starting to think that he should start heading home. But he needs to speak with the little one a bit more.

“Do you feel better?”

The little one lets out a small huff, “I guess.”

“What’s wrong?” Godzilla asks, “I know you're still upset.”

“I… I just want you home.” The little one says, “It’s cold and the moth isn’t warm enough. She’s vibrating a lot too.”

“Vibrating?” Godzilla perks up at the last part, “Mothra? What’s going on?”

“The humans are getting rather annoying.” The Moth’s voice comes through, and Godzilla can tell she’s not in a good mood. “They’ve been very—”

“Mothra?” Godzilla calls after some time of not hearing the moth.

“She’s started complaining about the humans getting too close to the nest again.” Rodan says, “She’s been like this for most of the day, cutting in and out of conversations.”

“I believe she’s trying to scare the humans off by vibrating her wings.” The Queen MUTO says, “It would explain why the little one woke up upset as well.”

Godzilla had lifted himself from where he had been resting and headed to the water when Rodan had been speaking. He was planning to rest a bit more but knowing that Mothra was having issues with the humans at their nest was something the King wasn’t going to take lightly.

The humans can bother him and some of the others all they want, but his Queen. Oh, no, he isn’t going to take this lightly. Mothra was the kindest to the humans and he knew that she wouldn’t hurt them, but there’s only so much irritation she’ll deal with. He could easily imagine her spitting some globs of silk at the humans as a way to tell them to leave her alone.

Of course, she’d aim to not harm.

He wouldn’t be surprised to return to his nest and find silk patches littering the area. But that silk would be a pain to clean up depending on what kind Mothra uses. She has silk that she uses to cocoon herself or to keep opponents down if she doesn’t want to use her stinger which she makes extra sticky for such purposes. Then the other silk is softer and more used for making nests or for padding if there's very uneven terrain for her to land on.

The softer silk dissolves more easily in water than the sticker silk.

“It wouldn’t be surprising if that’s what she’s doing,” Godzilla agrees as he slips into the water and heads out of the cavern. “I just hope there isn’t silk all over the place when I get home.”

“I wish you good luck with that,” Rodan says.

The others chime in with variations of what Rodan said. Most know how annoying Mothra’s silk can be to deal with. At least for some they could burn the silk or use water to wash it away.

Once he exits the passage and into the waters of the deep ocean, Godzilla turns himself towards home and swims. If he could talk to humans using their language, he’d be giving them a scolding that would burn itself into history for generations to come. He knows that some of the humans at Monarch would find such a thing humorous and deserved, but most would be pissing themselves scared.

The humans that would find such a thing funny would be the small group that Jia and Trapper are with. The one named Mark would seem to be the one who would be the most annoyed with the other humans at Monarch and he most likely wouldn’t drop the issue until the other humans had learned their lesson. If the incident on the boat is anything to go off of.

He suspects the human from the MUTO battle was like Mark and most likely would act the same, though in a bit more serious and reserved manner. Godzilla could tell by the clothing the human from the MUTO battle was military. So, his temper would be more controlled than his, Mark’s, and most of the other humans in the group.

Trapper would be annoyed, but Godzilla has a feeling the humans wouldn’t have the authority to do anything in the realm of punishment. Jia would be in the same boat as the human though her reason would be due to her being a child. He isn’t sure about the human female he saw with Jia, but he assumes she works at Monarch as well. So, it’s possible she could do something. However, he couldn’t be fully sure without asking Jia about the dynamics in the organization if the human child did know.

Swimming through the cold water, Godzilla tries to calm his temper. He didn’t need to come home in full rage only to find the situation is not as severe as everyone made it out to be. While he trusts Mothra to give a situation a good look over and tell it how it is to everyone, she could have been misreading it due to wanting to protect her little egg. She had done this before when looking for a place to lay her eggs. But, with humans involved, he wasn’t going to take any chances.

He just hopes that the humans are smart enough to leave before he returns. He has no issue taking out a metal flying bird or two to get his point across. He had roared at the flying birds when he had to go and evolve to fight Skar King and Shimo. He isn’t in the mood to give the humans another warning. It seems the ones before were not getting the message across.

Swimming to the surface, Godzilla pokes at the private link he has with Mothra. She does not respond and with a huff, Godzilla picks up his speed. He didn’t know what the humans could be doing that was keeping his Queen from contacting him, but it better be something important and not harmful.

If he finds his Queen or the egg injured, he isn’t going to respond kindly. No matter how much his Queen begs him too. There were lines that one should never cross with him.

“Goji?”

“Mothra?” Godzilla says as he slows his speed, “Everything ok?”

“For now, yes.” The moth says, “The humans haven’t left, but they’re a distance from the nest.”

Godzilla sighs in relief. At least the humans had backed off from the nest, though he would prefer if the tiny creatures would leave his nest alone. Both, while he’s there and not. He had a feeling why the humans were being nosy, but this was ludicrous even for them. He needed to speak with Jia and see if something could be done. Godzilla didn’t care if the humans causing the issues were placed elsewhere or lost their positions, but something needed to be done before he took the issue into his own hands.

“What happened?” Godzilla asks, wondering what the hell had happened while he was gone.

“Everything was going fine when you had left. I had fallen back to sleep and when I woke up I had found a lot of these little human things flying around. They haven’t been annoying at first, but over the past five hours they have been getting close.” Mothra explains, “They had gotten too close, so I had rubbed my wings together to try and shoo them away. Some had left, but most didn’t. I had done this twice and most of the little flying things hadn’t backed off or left.”

So that explains the vibrating the middle sister had spoken about. He isn’t surprised that Mothra had gone with the non-violent option first. And to use it twice shows that she wasn’t playing around with her warnings. He had a feeling he knew what she’d say next.

“Rodan said you’ve been cutting in and out of conversions,” Godzilla says.

“I have.” Mothra confirms, “I’ve had to growl at the humans many times as well as rub my wings.”

Godzilla growled at the thought of the humans not respecting his Queen. She was the kindest to humans and this is how treated her? Mothra may be seen as the weakest of the Kaiju, but she’s Queen for a reason. If he doesn't put the humans in their place, she’ll do it.

While she wouldn’t be kind about it, Godzilla knew she wouldn’t go as far as he would.

His anger was boiling, but what the Queen said next had… calmed him… somewhat.

“They backed away from the nest after I started spitting a few wads of silk,” Mothra huffs, “But, they backed off fully once Jia appeared.”

Godzilla perked up at hearing Jia was with Mothra. With her there, he might be able to speak with her and get the humans off of his back for a while. Maybe the other humans that were with her were there as well. It would be nice to have the other humans put the ones that are annoying his Queen and himself in their place.

Humans have been his least favorite beings on Earth, but at this moment, they were the worst he’s had to deal with.

Couldn’t he have some peace and quiet after balancing nature?

“What’s Jia doing there?” Godzilla asks, “I thought she was busy with… human stuff.”

“It seems that she and Ilene were about to head to Hollow Earth to visit Kong and Shimo, but Ilene saw what was happening and called someone. She had found a Monarch facility close.” Mothra says, “I’m not sure what she’s doing, but something tells me she’s not too pleased with what she has seen. Jia had come down to visit and said some others would be down shortly once things have been… settled.”

“Others are coming to the nest?”

“Yes,” Mothra hums, “Jia said you’ve met some of them before. Are you not wanting others in the nest?”

Godzilla lets himself think for a moment. He had time to try and relax before arriving at his nest. “If it’s the ones I’ve seen on the boat, then I don’t mind them staying for a little while. As long as they don’t do anything further to irritate me.”

At least it seems that Mortha has relaxed a little. She’s quite sweet with humans she’s developed a bond with.

“I’ll let her know when she comes back.” Mothra chirps.

Godzilla shakes his head but chuckles at his Queen’s antics. Looking out at what was around him, Godzilla suspects that he’ll return to the nest in about two hours and he relayed this to his Queen.

She chirps happily about him returning soon.

“The little one said she’s feeling cold.” Godzilla hums, “I’m assuming you’ve had to move around due to the humans?”

“Yes.” Mothra says, “I’m aware the little ones might be feeling a little chilly.”

“I’ll be home soon, hopefully, the little one won't be too impatient.”

“You wanna bet?” The middle sister’s voice sounds. “I can hear you.”

“Damn,” Rodan laughs, “Someone’s got some sass.”

“Keep talkin’ fire chicken,” The little one says, “I’ll bite you when I hatch. Don’t think you're safe.”

While he didn’t outwardly laugh, Godzilla was dying on the inside.

“Alright! Who taught her to call me that?” Rodan calls.

Godzilla hears the other chime in and he tunes them out. They’re arguing about who had taught the little female to call Rodan a fire chicken and that wasn’t something he wanted to hear. He’ll let the others have tired themselves out, hopefully he wouldn’t have to deal with trying to get the others to sleep.

He still doesn’t know why they're being kept awake.

Chapter Text

Having arrived home, Godzilla feels the sun drying the water droplets from him as he makes his way to his nest. Once the nest was visible, he found patches of silk here and there wasn’t a surprise to the Gojira. He would have to clean up the silk soon, but at the moment he wanted to see his queen and the egg.

Once on top of the nest, Godzilla finds Mothra, and they stare at each other. The old Gojira blinks a few times before huffing and slipping into the nest. Watching Mothra move her wings so he can curl up, Godzilla lays down as his tail thumps against the ground.

The silence could be cut through with a knife and there are several minutes before one of them speaks.

“I’m not mad about the silk,” Godzilla says.

“I know,” Mothra huffs, still upset about the situation.

She shifts her wings, and Godzilla has gotten a glimpse of the egg underneath her. The middle sister has been quiet for a while, and he wonders if the little one has fallen back to sleep. However, she may be being quiet because Mothra is upset. He didn’t know what the moth had said while he was gone and sending off the humans.

While everyone believes that Mothra is polite even when angered, Godzilla knows otherwise. He’s heard the moth curse with the ferocity of a sailor. When he first heard her swear, he couldn’t believe his ears and wondered if he had hit his head. He had been injured at the time, but Mothra had confirmed that she had indeed cursed, and he had heard her correctly.

“Why don't you take a flight?” Godzilla suggests, “I can look after the egg for a little while.”

Mothra seemed to mull over his works for a moment before she lifted herself. Giving herself a shake, she looks at Godzilla.

“I suppose that wouldn't hurt.”

Godzilla hums as he curls himself around the egg and Mothra climbs onto him and uses him to take off.

With the sound of her wings fading, Godzilla sighed with the knowledge that he and the little ones would be on their own while Mothra cooled off.

“You won't believe the storm she had flying out her mouth.”

“Oh, I have a feeling of how bad it was.” Godzilla snorted a laugh when he heard the middle sister speak, “I’ve heard words that would make a sailor blush.”

“And I believe you.” The middle sister says, “That Fire Chicken was losing his mind. Apparently, he heard her curse, but not like how she did earlier.”

Godzilla was trying to not laugh, but he wasn’t the best at hiding something he found funny.

“What are you laughing about?” The middle sister snorts.

“His name isn’t “Fire Chicken”, okay?” Godzilla says between snorted chuckles.

“I know,” The middle sister chirps, “What was his name again? Ro-damn? Ro-dumb? Stupid?”

“No,” Godzilla snorts, no longer finding the situation funny, “His name is Rodan.”

“I’ve told her that many times, G.” Rodan speaks up, sounding nonchalant, “She’s just being a little punk at best.”

“Saying the literal flying chicken.” The middle sister claps back, “What? Do you land like one too?”

“You haven’t even hatched yet,” Rodan cheekily says, “How do you know what a chicken is?”

“Did you forget the whole conversation that we all had yesterday?” The middle sister snorts, “Wow, you are stupid.”

“Did you forget who was asking a lot of questions yesterday?” Rodan hums.

Godzilla would have intervened between the two, but both were being cheeky and annoying each other on purpose. From what he heard, nothing said has been truly hurtful to one another. For now, he’ll let the two tire each other out. However, a gut feeling told the ancient Gojira that the middle sister and Rodan would become two peas in a pod once the little ones hatched.

After some time, Rodan and the middle sister had tired themselves out enough to have fallen asleep. Godzilla had found that amusing, but with two Kaijus sleeping, he wasn’t going to complain.

“Well, I didn’t expect him to tire her out.” The eldest yawns.

“You sure it’s not the other way around?” Queen MUTO responds.

Godzilla thought about giving up on what was keeping everyone awake. At this moment, everyone being awake wasn’t causing issues with nature or humans. If finding the little ones and them being active is the reason for everyone else to be up, then Godzilla doesn’t care. If he kept up trying to figure out what was keeping everyone awake, Godzilla believes he’d lose his mind.

He noticed that once in a while they would sleep and that was enough for him. He isn’t going to bother with this situation any longer. If the humans get too nosy, then the others can handle themselves.

He’s the King, but he’s a lazy one. If he’s not needed, do not call.

With the egg nestled against his stomach and tail, Godzilla was about to let himself have a nap when he heard footsteps. Once the steps are close enough, he lifts his head and turns to find a small group of humans heading his way.

Oh… right…

Mothra did say that Jia was bringing some of the other humans that he had met earlier in the week over. Maybe it wasn’t a good idea to give Mothra the idea to take a fly to cool her temper.

Hopefully, there wasn’t someone new that sneaked in.

With a huff, Godzilla lays his head down as the group comes close enough for him to smell them. While each scent is muddled by another, he can still tell each apart. From the scents alone, Godzilla can tell seven humans are coming his way.

From the humans that he sees, Godzilla recognizes five of the seven humans. He wasn’t in the mood to deal with someone new. And now he has to deal with two! When was Mothra going to return? He’s silently kicking himself for letting Mothra take a cool-off fly.

And yet, one of the scents was… familiar. Has he met this human before and just forgotten? Humans live such short lives, that he’s surprised that he’ll meet a human or two that he’d come across again before they’ve passed to the beyond. But now, he’s seeing humans that he’s met years before and they’re still alive and well. He’ll have to admit, that humans are more resilient than he remembered them centuries ago.

He wonders if this is one of the reasons why Mothra finds the tiny beings fascinating.

He still finds them as a pain in his ass.

With a few blinks, the group was right up on him, and he spotted Jia running towards him. She had another female behind her, and he could hear the voices of the others telling them to not run ahead.

Letting out a small rumble, Godzilla tilts his head seeing the female behind Jia and she is one that he does remember… slightly. The memories of Ghidorah and the metal creature that he and Kong defeated come flashing back. During Ghidorah, the female was small and was barely visible to him, but she was the one who roared at him. She had challenged him and was about to be vaporized if he had not come in time.

With the metal lookalike of him, he had sensed her there. Her scent was faint, but still noticeable to him. While he had not seen her, he knew she was there.

“Maddie!”

A voice calls out and the two females turn around. Godzilla notes it’s the human, Mark, who’s holding a metal square. The same kind that those human researchers had been holding back when he was on that… ship. He can tell the human male appears a bit annoyed— tired even. From the scent, Godzilla can conclude that Mark is a relative of the female that is with Jia.

“What did I say?” Marks says.

Godzilla silently laughed to himself. From the tone used, he has a feeling that Mark is a father. He remembers his father used the same when he had done something he wasn’t supposed to when he was a pup. As Mark and the human female— Maddie— are talking, Godzilla notices Jia’s attention is on him.

“Something tells me a conversion was done before coming here?” Godzilla asks.

“I assume so.” Jia answers, “Met up with everyone about an hour ago.”

If he had eyebrows, Godzilla would raise them. Turning his attention back to the two humans, he tunes in to what the two are saying.

“Don’t do that again.” Mark says, “What if he hasn't seen you running up?”

“Dad, you worry too much.” Maddie responds, “He saw Jia and I before she even started running up.”

“Maddie it’s just—” Mark sighed as he shook his head, seeming to be defeated, “Don’t do it again. Am I clear?”

The female—Maddie nodded her head and promised the other to not do something dangerous. However, from what Godzilla had witnessed of the human female, he believed that she was only saying this to calm her father’s nerves.

Mark titled his head and while Godzilla could only make out some of the expression, he had a feeling that Mark wasn’t fully believing his daughter. Mark’s posture was one of a parent that didn’t fully believe their child and Godzilla wonders if Mark had been in this situation before.

He wouldn’t be surprised if that was true.

The rest of the humans come up to the three and the one he knows as Trapper walks up to him. He titles his head and appears to be looking him over. The last time they had met, the human had told him that he wasn’t doing well and needed to be fed. Now that he has fed, Godzilla did feel much better than he had days ago.

“You look better since I last saw you,” Trapper says after some time.

“I thought that was a given after looking at the scans.” Mark deadpans.

Trapper looks over to the other and smiles, “Scans work just fine, but seeing it is way better.”

Godzilla looks at Mark, who shakes his head and gives a full-body sigh. There are a few others that do the same and Godzilla wonders what Trapper is like. It seems he’s very… different from the others. He doesn’t have the serious tone that he’s seen from most of the group. Trapper just seemed to be… out there. Godzilla couldn’t find a way to describe what Trapper was, but the human was fascinating.

If only a little.

Giving the group a once over, Godzilla notes all the humans are ones he’s indeed met before. There’s Mark and his daughter. The human from the MUTO battle, who is next to Trapper. Jia and her adopted mother.

That leaves only one left.

Turning his head to the other human that he hasn’t met, he sees another female. Her hair is black and short. He can tell by her scent that she’s of Asian heritage, but something about her scent is… strange? Familiar?

He couldn’t figure out why the other female felt familiar, but he felt the sense of safety coming from the women. Something he doesn’t feel from humans that often. It’s another thing from the past that he’s missed.

Moving his head closer to the female, he sniffs. His head is close enough that the female could reach her hand out and touch him. He had expected the female to back up when he had moved, but she had done the opposite.

Reaching her hand out, Godzilla feels the smooth skin against his rough scales. Giving a soft rumble, Godzilla blinks a few times at the female.

“D-dr. Chan?” Mark says, nervous in his voice. “Is—”

“It’s ok.” The female— Chan says. There’s excitement in her voice and she turns her head to Mark and nods. Godzilla notes the massive smile on her face. “It’s ok.”

“Right,” Mark nods, though he appears to not be fully convinced.

Now that he can get more of Chan’s scent, Godzilla releases why the female feels familiar. She was one of the humans that was on that metal thing that Mark had been on that day. There was something else about the female and now that she was closer— touching him— he could finally understand what was familiar about her.

Bloodline.

She was part of the humans that had worshipped and protected Mothra for generations. He didn’t know if she was part of the Iwi tribe in Hollow Earth, but some of them may have stayed on the surface.

“Dude, relax.” Trapper says, walking up and placing his hand on Godzilla’s snort, “I don’t see him doing anything that’ll hurt us unless we do something first.”

“Will I do not agree with… Trapper with everything he does,” The human from the MUTO battle says, looking pointedly at said human, “I do believe he is correct in this instant.”

“Fine,” Mark sighs, “Just don’t be Trapper and be the reason something stupid happens.”

“Hey!” The human called, sounding offended.

“If he does anything that can be seen as stupid, you can drag him out, Brody,” Mark says.

“Understood.”

Ah, Brody. That’s the human’s name. At least he didn’t have to come up with one.

“I can keep an eye on him.” Ilene says, “He isn’t that much of a troublemaker.”

Godzilla didn’t bother to keep his attention on the humans' conversations. He doesn’t mind the humans mangling about, but he wonders when Mothra will return.

As if hearing his wish, Godzilla hears the cry of his Queen, and the humans around him back up and look to the sky. Lifting his head, he finds Mothra flying by. Bellowing response, he warns her to be careful of the humans in the nest.

Hearing the flapping of her wings, Godzilla knows she’s circling back and will most likely land near the nest if she isn’t able to land inside. Looking back at the humans he sees expressions of awe, wonder, and… relief.

“She’s back,” Maddie says in awe.

“I knew she’d return.” Chan says relieved, “It does take some time.”

“You said she’d always come back.” Mark says, now standing next to Chan, “Basically immortal.”

“If she lays an egg and it’s safe.” The female responds.

Hearing another cry, Godzilla looks up and finds Mothra above the nest and looking down at everyone. With a tilt of his head, he gives a rumble and watches as she flies to the part of the Colosseum that his back is against. Following her movements, Godzilla had a feeling he knew what she was planning to do.

Godzilla watches as her back legs land on the stone structure and with care she lowers herself so that she can use him as a steppingstone. He gives a few grunts from feeling her sharp tips poking at his skin, but there wasn’t much he could do.

Once fully on him, Mothra positions herself just above the egg and settles down. Godzilla would have protested to her about laying on him, but with the humans in the nest, he could understand why she chose to lay on him.

Mothra looks at the humans for a few moments before turning her attention to Godzilla, “I‘m sure they haven’t caused any trouble.”

“They haven’t,” Godzilla says through the link, “These… are not as stupid as the rest.”

“I had hoped so,” Mothra says, stretching her limbs so her two longest ones were draped over the egg. Her hind legs and smaller limbs were tucked under her body in a way that didn’t dig into Godzilla’s skin.

Laying his head down, Godzilla finds the human group looking at him and Mothra. Letting out a huff, Godzilla turns his attention to Jia and says, “What are they thinking?”

“Take a guess.” The Iwi child says.

“They want to climb up, don’t they?”

“That and they want to get some scans.” Jia says, “They want to compare from the ones that they got when you were on the air carrier.”

Godzilla gives a full-body sigh. He didn’t understand why the humans wanted more scans, but if it kept them from being annoying while they visited.

Seeing Mothra turning her head to him, she speaks, “Let them. They’re just a little curious.”

Godzilla looks to Jia and gives a half nod, “Fine, they can scan… and climb. Just… made sure everyone stays away from the egg.”

Jia nods and turns to her mom, who does that strange thing with her fingers. Jia does the same and her mom nods.

“He’ll allow some scans.” Ilene says, “We can climb up, too. Just not near the egg.”

“Right,” Mark nods to Ilene as he holds the metal square up, “Let’s make this quick.”

Godzilla watches as the other humans crowd around Mark, but don’t obstruct his movements. Mark starts with his head and slowly moves from his neck, body, and finally to his tail.

“Hmmm…” Trapper titles his head with an unsure expression.

“What?” Mark asks.

“It’s just… the amount of radiation he has—” Trapper starts.

“It still looks a bit low.” Chan says, “It is better than the previous scans from the air carrier, but still not the best.”

“I know,” Mark sighs, “But, we all know why.”

“Another scolding in order?” Brody asks.

“Oh, I’ll let you have a shot after I get another round in.” Mark huffs.

Ah, was that the reason why Mark appeared annoyed or tired? Godzilla wouldn’t be surprised. Some of the humans at Monarch were the most annoying beings that he had ever known to live.

He isn’t surprised that Mark and a few other people with brains would be annoyed.

Maybe letting these humans have some time away from their fools wouldn’t be a bad idea. He’ll have to run this by Mothra sometime later.

“I suppose it’s better than him not getting any and depleting what he had left.” Trapper shrugs, “I bet he’s got a month in him before he has to head out again.”

“Would we give him a Nuke?” Chan asks.

And blow his nest up!

No! Fuck no!

“I don’t think he wants his nest to be blown to kingdom come.” Mark says as he looks at Godzilla, “Rome would be removed from the map if we do that.”

Godzilla lets out a snort, “At least someone gets it.”

“At least they're trying.” Mothra says, “You didn’t feed as long as you needed to.”

“Might be better to point him to a nuclear plant and let him go,” Trapper says.

Out of the humans in the group, Mark and Trapper are the ones he’s starting to like the most.

“Hey, Dad,” Maddie says, looking at the metal thing with an intense look.

“Yes?” Mark replies, “What is it?”

Godzilla lifts his head and lets out a rumble before asking a question to Jia, “What’s going on?”

“I’m not sure,” She says, trying to look at the metal thing.

“Move back to the egg,” Maddie says, “I think… I think I saw something move.”

Godzilla watches as Mark looks at his daughter with a raised brow but does as she say. He didn’t know what about the little ones that the humans had interested, but he unconsciously wanted to wrap himself around the egg.

If it wasn’t for Mothra lying where she was, Godzilla would have wrapped himself around their egg and told Jia to make the humans leave. But he had agreed to have the humans visit and do the scans.

“I don’t see any—” Mark starts.

“Wait! Wait!” Trapper interrupts, pointing to the metal thing. “Did anyone else see that!”

“I did!” Chan says, “It moved!”

Godzilla could have laughed. The humans were expected to see the little ones move. While he has felt the sisters move in their eggs, he had never seen them do so. He can understand the excitement the humans were having over something that one could consider so little in the grand scheme of things.

After the shock of seeing the little ones move, Mark takes a few more scans before putting that metal thing away. It was only a few moments before Mothra told Jia that she’d help the humans climb up and find a spot to sit.

Godzilla settles his head down as he watches as Mothra guides the humans onto climbing him. Once the humans were settled, Godzilla took notes of where each human had settled.

Mark and Maddie had settled themselves onto his head. Jia, her mom, and Trapper had settled somewhere near his shoulders. Chan had been placed on top of Mothra’s head. While the human female wasn’t technically touching the egg, Godzilla wasn’t too pleased with his Queen finding a loophole.

Brody had settled himself on one of Godzilla’s claws. He had said it would be best if he stayed near the ground, in case something was to happen and he needed to take action.

With each human accounted for, Godzilla contemplates letting himself nap while listening to the humans' muddled conversations. The sun was warm, and his little ones were sleeping. At this moment, everything felt safe and calm.

As he begins to close his eyes and he starts to drift, he hears something from Mark and Maddie’s conversation.

“Serizawa would have loved this.” Mark says, “To get this close and well… be himself.”

“He would.” Maddie hums, “His notebook would have pages upon pages of this encounter if he’d still…”

“I know.” Mark says, “I know.”

Serizawa?

Was that the name of the human that had returned life to him?

He’ll ask about that later. For now, sleep calls to him and he decides a nap wouldn’t hurt.

Chapter Text

Waking up to find the sky had turned dark told Godzilla that he had napped longer than expected. With humans around him, he suspected the noisy little creatures would have woken him up a few times with their constant chatter. And yet, it appears that was not the case.

Had he been so tired that he had fallen into a deep sleep?

He had learned that sleeping deeply was one of the few ways for him to ignore humans unless they were doing something that affected the balance of nature or the planet's safety. The other was finding a place that these humans couldn’t go.

Feeling movement against him, Godzilla looked to where Mothra had perched and found the space empty. With a soft rumble, he moves his head and finds her nestled around his stomach. His tail had wrapped around the female while he had slept since he could see the magenta dorsalis behind her.

Looking at his stomach, he finds the egg cradled between them.

Laying his head down, Godzilla looks to the night sky and wonders what the future will hold. Children were something that he had thought about having when he was a bull-headed adolescent. He had found a female and courted her. After she had accepted, they had mated for a few years, but no eggs had been produced. He and the female were upset every season that no eggs had come, so he had gone to his parents about the issue and the most plausible theory was that he or the female were still too young to produce eggs.

He discussed with the female, and they agreed that they’d wait some years before trying again. Two years later, the female had been killed in battle against those parasites. He had been able to kill one and drive the other away, but there was nothing he could do to save his mate.

He hated the parasites for targeting his species, but the pure burning rage was ignited when they had taken his mate.

He had returned to his parents' nest and told them what happened. He had stayed with them for a while, not having a desire to look for another mate or to return to the island that he had chosen. Years had passed and now he’s the last of his kind.

Mothra shifts in her sleep, nuzzles into his side, and stretches her wings. The warmth, safety, and comfort from her soothes him from his memories. He would have fallen asleep if he had not had a long nap earlier.

He pokes the link and feels everyone is sleeping. He had not checked in on the other Kaijus and finding everyone sleeping brought a pleased sigh. He had stopped fretting over why they had not returned to their long slumber, and it’s done wonders for his headaches.

As long as the humans don’t fuck around too much, they’re finding out shouldn’t be too disastrous.

He could try to fall asleep again, but for once in his life, he wasn’t interested in sleeping. He felt too awake. Too energized? He wasn’t for sure, but sleep wasn’t going to be a thing tonight.

With a hum, he pokes the link and asks, “Anyone up?”

“I thought everyone was sleeping.” A timid voice.

Godzilla felt movement within the egg and had a feeling about who had answered. The voice didn’t belong to the eldest or middle sister that he had spoken to before.

“Well not everyone is up at the same time,” Godzilla keeps his voice gentle, “Some sleep more than others and some don’t sleep that much. How long have you been up?”

“Not sure,” The youngest says, “Kinda… stuck.”

“Stuck?”

How does one get stuck in their egg?

“I have… my sisters… laying on me.”

Godzilla held the laugh in. As much as he wanted to burst out laughing at the mental image of the older sisters using the youngest as a pillow, he didn’t want to cause any kind of discomfort or embarrassment. But he can relate to the feeling, his siblings had used him as a pillow when they were in the nest.

“I know that feeling,” Godzilla sighs, “My siblings used to do that to me as well. I was the smallest and couldn’t move them until I got older,”

“They're heavy,” The youngest grunts.

Godzilla feels some more movement than comes the youngest successful cry of “Finally! I can breathe!”

Godzilla chuckles, remembering the times he had done the same once he was big enough, “I can only assume how cramped an egg is when you have two more heads to deal with.”

“Very. We’ve been like this for… well, a while now.” The youngest sighs, “Not sure how long. We all lost count after 100 years.”

These girls have been sleeping for a long time. He knows Ghidorah had been frozen for a millennia minimum, which means the girls have as well. But, should he tell the youngest? Does the eldest know how long she and her sister have been trapped in their icy prison?

“I’m not sure how long it takes a Ghidorah egg to hatch,” Godzilla says, “This is my… un… first time hatching any egg for that matter.”

“Are eggs not a common thing?”

“Eggs are common here, not to the size of your and your sister's egg.” Godzilla hums.

“Is it normally this boring?” There’s a yawn from the youngest Ghidorah, “Tired,”

“Try to get some sleep,” Godzilla stretches, feeling a nap would be nice, “It’s night, and mostly everyone is asleep. I’m sure once morning comes, someone will be up that you or your sisters can chitter-chatter with.”

There’s a hum from the youngest before the link goes silent. Godzilla looks around his nest and hums in content feeling the warmth and comfort of his Queen and the egg nestled against him.

One could say, he even had a small smile.

Two weeks had passed since he had had the conversation with the youngest Ghidorah and nothing significant had happened. There were verbal scuffles here and there between some of the Kaijus, but nothing that had demanded his physical presence.

He didn’t know what was going on in Hollow Earth, but Mothra had to return to check on the human tribe that dwelled within. Being on the surface for two weeks wasn’t something that was out of the ordinary for the Queen and Godzilla had enjoyed having her by his side when they cuddled.

The Ghidorah sisters had been sleeping for the past two weeks and in the beginning, Godzilla had worried that the little ones’ health had taken a turn. Yet, he didn’t feel anything wrong and Mothra had reassured him that the sisters were fine. He didn’t know why the sisters were sleeping for so long, but some of the others had come up with a few theories.

Rodan believes that the sisters could be getting ready to hatch soon and were conserving their energy for such an event.

Barb— the name the humans have given the Queen MUTO— thinks the sisters are still rather tired of being on the ice for so long and that they may need more time to recover.

Behemoth had agreed that both theories could be correct but had suggested that the sisters could become like the others. Like him, Rodan, and many more. Since Godzilla is the King and tends to keep everyone in a hibernation-like state, it’s possible that the sisters were falling into Nature's order.

Shaking the memories from his head, Godzilla curls himself around the egg and huffs. Since the last visit from the humans, the tiny creatures have been behaving themselves. He isn’t sure if the last visit has satisfied their curiosity, but he isn’t going to complain. While their little metal birds had been seen hanging around his nest, they had not drawn close enough to cause him any true annoyance.

Whether Mark had told the other humans to leave them alone or if they were using their brains for once, Godzilla’s glad that the humans were leaving him alone… for now. But, on the thought of Mark, Godzilla isn’t sure if the human was an Alpha. Do humans even have Alphas like the Kaijus do? From what he had seen of the human, Mark is someone that other humans listen to. Yet, he couldn’t feel anything that would indicate that Mark was an Alpha.

Letting out a huff, Godzilla felt boredom creeping up and he didn’t have anything to keep this boredom away. Mothra had noticed how dried out his scales were and suggested he go for a swim, but she had to return to Hollow Earth this morning. He’d agreed that he would like to go for a swim since he could feel his scales drying out and flaking off. But he didn’t want to leave his and Mothra’s egg alone.

He planned to leave for a swim once Mothra had returned.

“Goji! Goji!”

“What’s wrong?” Godzilla had not expected Mothra’s sudden cry from their private link, but something was wrong.

“You need to get down here,” Mothra’s distressed voice says, “Shimo and Kong need help.”

“Mothra what’s wrong?” Godzilla lifts himself. His instincts tell him to stay with his egg, but Shimo and Kong are having issues. Issues with what and why is he needed? “Mothra?”

“Some of Skar King’s minions are trying to get to the portals!” Mothra says, “They ambushed me and the Iwi tribe. Kong and Shimo are fighting a crab-like creature.”

He didn’t understand what Mothra was saying, but he didn’t need to. His Queen and her humans were in danger and that’s all he needed to know. He’ll figure out the full story once he’s dealt with the threat.

“I’ll be there soon,” Godzilla says, “Keep the vortexes safe.”

“Hurry,” Mothra’s voice is filled with worry, “Suko has been fighting for a while and he’s getting tired. Everyone’s tired.”

How long have they been fighting? Why was he called as soon as this started?

Now wasn’t the time for questions. He carefully moved himself out of the nest and headed towards the sea. Locating the nearest Hollow Earth vortex, he moved himself into high gear. Finding the vortex and diving in, Godzilla growled. He wasn’t going to be kind to these fools once the vortex spat him out.

Landing on the unforgiving ground, Godzilla shakes off the feeling he gets when having to venture to Hollow Earth from a vortex. Hearing a cry, he looks up and finds Mothra in the sky and spitting webs. Narrowing his eyes, he sees that she’s keeping herself between some more vortexes and a small group of Apes on the ground.

As of now, Mothra appears to be fine, and he looks to see if he can find Shimo and Kong. It didn’t take him long to find the two and the crab-like creature the two were struggling against.

The crab reminds him of Scylla, though this one was purple with tips of white. It’s smaller than Scylla, but if Godzilla had to guess it’s at least one hundred feet. He doesn’t understand why Shimo and Kong would have such trouble dealing with such a small opponent.

Kong’s on the ground with the Ice Kaiju standing over him. He isn’t sure if Kong is unconscious or not, but the Great Ape isn’t moving. The terrain around the two is covered in sporadic spots of ice. But the crab-like Kaiju shows no signs of injury.

Shimo powers up and fires a blast, but the crab Kaiju uses its nimble legs and scuttles away from the blast and up onto a cliffside.

“That smaller crab isn’t the one you should worry about,” Turning his head to Mothra’s voice, he finds her landing next to him and clearly out of breath. “Most of the Apes ran when they saw you. Those that stayed I webbed up.”

Knowing she wouldn’t have come to him if the vortexes were unsafe, Godzilla asks, “What’s going on? Kong looks—”

“Unconscious? I know,” Mothra says, “He was fighting the mother when I arrived while Shimo kept the little one at bay. I saw some of Skar King’s followers trying to climb up to the vortexes. I kept them busy, but in doing so I lost track of the mother.”

“I didn’t see the mother when I arrived,” Godzilla tells her, “Great, we have an unaccounted mom crab. What more can go wrong?”

“Suko’s unaccounted for as well. I heard him when I arrived, but not now,” Mothra says, “And I don’t think Kong’s going to be rather pleased if he wakes up and doesn’t see him.”

“Could the mother crab have taken him?” Godzilla looks at the unconscious Ape and wonders how the other would react if Suke had been taken. Then banished the thought almost immediately.

“Not sure,” Mothra says, “I don’t know the full story, but I was told that Skar King’s followers had dragged the smaller crab here. I assume they did this to lure the mother.”

Godzilla lets out a huff and turns his attention back to Shimo. With the information that Mothra had given, he can see now that the Ice Kaiju isn’t attacking the little crab but trying to keep it out of harm's way.

But where was the mother? Surely something had to knock Kong unconscious. The Ape wouldn’t have knocked himself unconscious and surely Suko would have disappeared without saying something or reappearing when the cost was clear.

“Mothra, take to the sky. See how the tribe is doing,” Godzilla tells her, “I’ll deal with everything here,”

Mothra nods and uses the cliff edge to take off.

Wait? Cliff edge? He didn’t know they had been fighting near a cliff edge, but that does give him an idea as to what could have happened to the mother crab… and Suko. Shaking his head and putting that on the back burner, Godzilla roars.

A call for all to stop.

“You're here? When?” Shimo asks as she turns to greet him.

“Yes, I’m here, Mothra called me not that long ago,” Godzilla says once he’s to the group, his attention staying on the smaller crab that had not moved from the spot where they had crawled too. “Seems Skar King still has a few lackeys causing trouble,”

“Been keeping this one from the fight.” Shimo says, “Kong was handling the mother, but she had thrown him, and he hit the ground hard. After checking on him, I looked up and didn’t see the mother. I don’t know where she went.”

“Mothra said that… Suko? He had disappeared too,” Godzilla wasn’t used to saying the child’s name, but the look on Shimo’s face told him that what he said wasn’t good, “Not good I assume?”

“Not good indeed,” Shimo confirms, “Kong… un… is protective of those in his tribe. He’s not going to be happy if he finds out that Suko’s missing.”

‘Let’s figure out where the mother went first,” Godzilla says as he eyes the edge of the cliff, “I sent Mothra to look at the Iwi tribe. I’m not sure how badly they were attacked. Mothra said it was an ambush.”

“Semi-ambush. Kong and I were heading back when we saw… those,” Shimo turns her head pointedly and sneers at the Apes in Mothra’s webs, “... dragging this one towards the human tribe. The mother was a big behind. I told Kong to keep the mother busy while I tried to free the little one. I didn’t expect more of Skar King’s followers to be hiding and waiting.”

“It’s ok,” Godzilla nudges Shimo’s head, not surprised that Shimo isn’t very pleased to see any of Skar King’s lackeys. He didn’t know the extent of what the Ape had put her through, and he wasn’t going to pry. “I can deal with them later. Let’s find the mother. I think I know what might have happened to her,”

“Let Kong deal with them,” Shimo says, “He had made a peace treaty once Skar King was dead. He took those who wanted to leave and those who sided with Skar King where to stay in the lava and leave us and the human tribe alone.”

Godzilla hums and nods. If Kong made a treaty and it was broken, then he’ll allow the newly appointed Hollow Earth King to deal with his subjects. It’s one less thing that he doesn’t have to deal with.

“You said you might know what happened to the mother?” Shimo asks.

He nods and heads to the cliff edge. He doesn’t want his theory to be right, but with everything he’s been told and seeing where they had this fight. There’s only one conclusion that he could come up with.

He didn’t expect to have the smaller crab jump onto his face and start using its limbs to crawl at him. With the creature being quite small compared to him, Godzilla used his hands and pulled the little thing off his face. He looked down at the smaller crab as it tried to still attack him.

With the little in his crawls, he’s surprised to feel soft flesh. Lowering his head, Godzilla takes a few sniffs of the small crab and finds himself intrigued. From the scent, Godzilla suspects the smaller crab must have molted not too long ago. That would explain why Skar King’s followers were able to capture the little thing and drag it. It would also explain one of the reasons why the mother would come for her child.

“You’re a baby,” Godzilla says and Shimo looks at him with a confused expression.

The small crab stopped struggling and looked at him with blinking eyes. Godzilla stared back before giving a small hum, “I know you can hear me.”

“W-where’s m-m-my mom?” A small voice trembles.

“I’m trying to find her,” Godzilla says gently, “But I can’t if you're on my face,”

Godzilla walks away from the cliff edge and sets the little one down once he knows that the small crab is going to be safe, “Stay here,”

Godzilla watched as the small crab blinked at him, but it didn’t move. He turns around and heads back to the cliff edge where he had left Shimo. He nods at her in a motion for her to follow him. They headed to the cliff edge and peered over.

“I hoped I wasn’t right,” Godzilla whispers, “The edge isn’t that tall, so the fall was short. But she appears to be unconscious.”

Below them, they find the mother crab on her back and unmoving. Godzilla suspects the mother is still alive but silently hopes that she is. He didn’t know if he could tell a child that their mother wouldn’t be coming back.

“We should go down and see how she’s doing,” Shimo whispers.

“Right,” Godzilla nods in agreement and turns to head down to where the mother crab lay.

“Where’s mom?” The small crab asks.

Godzilla looks down at the little one and hums, “I’m going to see how she’s doing. Now, I need you to stay here until I see your mom, ok?”

“Ok.”

Godzilla and Shimo made their way to the mother crab. Once they arrived, Godzilla leaned his head down and sniffed her. He didn’t know how long the mother crab had been unconscious, but he didn’t see blood coming from her.

“Shimo,” Godzilla turned to the female Kaiju, “Do you think we should move her?”

“We should be careful if we do.” She replies.

Godzilla nods as he and Shimo begin to move the mother crab. They were careful to not cause her further injury and carried her to where Godzilla had left her child. Laying the female crab down, Godzilla watches as her child scuttles up to her and tries to get her to wake up.

“Mom? Mom? Wake up! Mom?”

“Hey, now,” Godzilla lowers his head and nudges the small crab, “She’s going to be ok. She just needs a bit of sleep right now.”

There’s a soft trill and everyone lifts their head to find Mothra landing near them. Godzilla nods to her as she makes her way to them. He motioned to the female crab, “Found her. She must have fallen over the edge.”

“Found someone else too,” Mothra lowers her head, to which Godzilla and Shimo find Suko sitting.

“Hey,” The smaller Ape waves. “So, I fell and ended up somewhere near the human tribe… oops?”

“As long as you're ok, I’m sure Kong and the Iwi are not going to be upset that you fell,” Shimo says as she lets Suko climb up onto her.

Mothra looks at the mother crab, then back to Godzilla before stepping closer to him and whispers, “Is she?”

“Alive? Yes,” He whispers back. “Why don’t you stay and keep an eye on them? I can watch the egg until you get back,”

“Egg?”

Godzilla turns his head and finds two pairs of wide eyes looking at him. Oops, he had not told Shimo about the Ghidorah egg that he had found. He isn’t sure how she’ll react, but maybe he could play it off as the egg being a random one, he found. Or say it’s one of his species' eggs that he found and is hatching.

“Goji found an egg in the ice about three weeks after the fight with Skar King,”

Mothra is going to get him killed and Shimo is going to be the one to kill him. Guess the Ghidorah sisters are going to be fatherless.

“Can I leave now?” Godzilla asks, leaving the ‘before I get killed’ part out, “I want to go home,”

“What is this egg you fo—” Suko tries to say.

“Yes, you can go home.” If Mothra could roll her eyes, she’d done it about seven times by now.

“Right, bye!” Godzilla says as he beelines to the nearest vortex.

He did not want to deal with Shimo once she found out that the egg was a Ghidorah egg. Have fun dealing with an angry Ice Kaiju, Mothra. Just know that he loves you all the same. Hopefully, the moth laid an egg somewhere.

“Hey, get back here!”

He hears Shimo’s demand for him to return, but he has leaped into a vortex. Once the vortex spat him out, Godzilla looked around to see where he had landed and hummed in a pleased tone to find out that he was close to his nest.

Slipping into the ocean, Godzilla lets the cool water soothe his warmed scales from the heat of Hollow Earth radiation. It didn’t take him long to travel to his nest and shake the water off of himself. Settling into his nest and curling around the egg, Godzilla lets out a yawn. While he had not fought when Mothra called, traveling to Hollow Earth always took some energy out of him.

Closing his eyes, Godzilla allows himself to slip into a nap.

Which had lasted about three hours, due to Mothra’s return. Groaning as he opens his eyes, Godzilla finds the moth in a good mood as she settles into the nest. If he had eyebrows, Godzilla would have raised them.

“How did it go?”

“Everyone’s fine. Even the crab mother and the baby crab,” Mothra chirps.

“That’s good, but I was… un… asking—”

“She took it well,” Mothra starts to clean an antenna, “I had expected her to be a bit upset and she was, but not in the way I expected,”

“Huh?” Godzilla titled his head.

“She’s more upset that you didn’t tell her sooner about the little ones.” Mothra said, “She says she understands why you’d be nervous to let her know. With the egg being from Ghidorah’s species, she knows that there isn’t a good history.”

Godzilla sighs and lays his head back down, “I didn’t know how she would react, and I wasn’t ready for another major fight,”

“She understands,” Mothra hums, before perking up and getting a little giddy, “She had so many baby names!”

Oh god, someone please help him. Can the humans be annoying? He won’t be upset if the humans got unreasonably nosy right now.

“Un… how many?”

“Oh, so, so many!” Mothra bounces, “She was thinking of some like, Angel, Ariana, Athena, Aurora, and Bella. Oh even; Blossom, Brooklyn, Cassandra, and Chloe! Others she'd come up with were Delilah, Elizabeth, Evelyn, Faye, and Francesca.”

“Where any… Japanese names thrown in?” Godzilla asks.

“Oh, not just Japanese! There’s many, many names from different languages we’ve listed!”

As Mothra rambled on and on about the names she and Shimo had come up with the King and Queen had not noticed the tiniest of cracks at the bottom of their egg.

Chapter Text

It turns out it wasn't Shimo alone who helped with the list of names. Kong and Suko had thrown in a few and some members of the Iwi tribe had given suggestions. Having listened to the extensive list that Mothra and those from Hollow Earth had come up with, he had liked a few.

Hikari, Kaida, and Mizuki were the three that had stuck with him the most.

Hikari, in Japanese, means Light. Which Godzilla found a bit fitting for the eldest. She had been the one to call out and save herself and her sisters. She’s the light that brought her sisters to safety. He wanted to choose a name that meant life, but none of the names spoke to him.

Mothra had suggested Mothra Jr. or Godzilla Jr. for the eldest, but Godzilla shook that off. As much as it could be funny for someone to call for Mothra or him and have two heads turn to them, Godzilla wasn’t going to be that cruel. He also wanted the eldest to grow into herself without the expectations of her being like Mothra or himself.

For the middle sister, Kaida was the name suggested. With her feisty attitude and how much she had sassed Rodan, he and Mothra couldn’t think of another name that could encapsulate the nature of the middle sister. Godzilla also likes that Kaida, in Japanese, means Little Dragon.

For the youngest sister, Mothra had liked the name Mizuki. Godzilla wasn’t so sure if the name would fit. He has had one conversation with the youngest so far, but Mothra has told him that she has had several and is certain that the name Mizuki will fit the youngest best. In pattern with the other two names, Mizuki, in Japanese, means Beautiful Moon.

He and Mothra would have discussed more names if not for the moth tiring herself out and falling asleep. With everything being quiet and not having too much to do, Godzilla would have let himself fall into sleep. If the scratch marks from the baby crab didn’t still have a sting to them.

When he did finally fall asleep, night had fallen and the humans around were turning in for the night. However, some of the creatures were beginning to wake. He had noticed that some of the humans would do things during the night while others were sleeping. He didn’t fully understand why, but he didn’t truly care to know why.

The only humans he tended to be mindful of were the ones that tended to any of the Kaiju, himself included. Speaking of which, Mothra had told him that the Iwi in Hollow Earth had been keeping an eye on Kong since the defeat of Skar King. He isn’t sure as to why, but he’ll let the human tribe do as they please. It’s not hurting anyone and if the Ape did need help, it was easier for the tribe to communicate as such to Mothra.

Closing his eyes with a grunt, Godzilla knew he wasn’t going to fall back to sleep anytime soon. That didn’t mean he couldn’t rest them and listen to the man-made sounds. He had grown used to the unnatural song the humans have made and yet, nature still found a way to add itself into the mix.

He isn’t sure if the humans that helped him to his nest would appear in the morning. While the fight in Hollow Earth wasn’t bad. He didn’t even consider the fight a proper fight. It seemed more of an unfortunate circumstance of events that needed his involvement. But returning with some scratch marks would be cause for alarm. But he’s dealt with worse, and the humans haven’t come worried sick about his health.

Except with Ghidorah. But that had been the humans meddling in business where they weren’t needed. They had fixed their mistake but at the cost of his home and one of their own.

He had been surprised when the human had come into his home. He had heard someone walking up the steps but had believed it to be a hallucination due to the pain of his body. So, when the figure appeared with an offering, he couldn’t believe that such a tiny thing could have traveled to his underwater domain. And yet, the human was there. He had expected the human to run from the place like the other offerings had done. Over the centuries, he learned that humans would fall extremely ill if exposed to radiation for too long or a high dose and perish.

His old lair had too much radiation for the human to handle and knew that even if the human had left, he would die within minutes or hours. And yet, he stayed. This human stayed to keep him company— to give comfort— until a blinding white light took his home, the human’s life, and gave him the strength he needed to defeat Ghidorah.

Why had his mind wandered to this again?

Since learning the name of the one who gave his life to revive him, Godzilla hasn’t been able to stop thinking and replaying the memories. He knew the human’s face would be imprinted into his brain for the rest of his living days and his final words still ring in his head to this moment.

Goodbye, old friend.

Serizawa had said this to him in one of the few human languages he could understand, Japanese. Is this why he took more interest in Japanese names than some of the others that had been mentioned? Was it his way of paying homage to the human that had saved him? Kaijus do not have middle or last names, so he couldn’t add the human’s name to his and Mothra’s daughters, right?

Maybe he and Mothra could start something new. He would have to speak with her about this.

Blinking his eyes open, Godzilla realized this was the first time he had confirmed his feelings about the Ghidorah sisters as his daughters. Since finding his daughters’ egg, he knew a natural protectiveness would come about during the nesting and hatching phase. But a worry had lingered in the back of his mind that after the little ones' hatch, he wouldn’t be interested in raising the sisters. He had seen others of his species nest and stay until their eggs hatched, but after that, the parents left and let the young fend for themselves.

His parents had not done this, but it seemed to be a somewhat common thing. Some Gojirains took care of their young after hatching and others didn’t. While he always wanted pups of his own and believed he would be a very active father like his father was, the fear never left.

Lifting his head and gently shaking his head to remove the memories, he looks to his Queen and finds she is still sleeping. She lays against his side while using the egg as a resting place for her head. Their daughters’ egg nestled between them like always and laying his head down, Godzilla closes his eyes.

He listens to the sounds of the humans around him until he falls into a light sleep, only for morning to come with Mothra running an idea by him that he doesn’t know how to respond too.

“Please!” Mothra begged.

“Mothra, I don’t think it’s a good idea,”

“It’ll be fine!” The Moth whines, “We can let everyone see the egg. No one has seen an egg like this before. Nothing going to happen, I promise. We can plan everything out and everyone can come on different days.”

Godzilla looks to Mothra with a slightly annoyed expression. He had not expected to wake up to see Mothra sitting in front of him with her expression beaming. He knew she wanted to do this idea, but he didn’t want the others coming and hanging around him, Mothra, and their egg. While he understood the curiosity and excitement the others have over this once-in-a-lifetime event, he didn’t trust himself to not chase them from the nest.

And she wanted everyone to come and when she meant everyone, she meant everyone. Thinking of the list of names was enough to make Godzilla not want to go with her idea.

Kong, Shimo, Suko, Rodan, Barb, and Behemoth would be some of the Kaijus that would be making their way to him. And how could he forget the humans? Those tiny beings watching the Kaijus would be flocking once they see so many moving.

As for most humans, he’s sure they’ll leave their homes once they realize that six or more massive beings are heading their way.

“Mothra, where did this idea come from?”

“Why do you ask?” She says though Godzilla can tell she’s trying to hide something. She’s being too innocent.

He had a sneaking suspicion he knew why Mothra had come up with this idea for an… egg shower? Baby shower? He wasn’t sure what to call this idea of hers, but the fact she sprung it up from nowhere told him all he needed to know.

“You had stayed in Hollow Earth for quite some time.” Godzilla muses.

“W-well, you know how it can be down there,” Mothra stammered, clearly trying to hide her flusteredness, “You had asked me to look over the mother crab and the Iwi. I was going to take a while!”

Indeed, he understood how hectic and demanding Hollow Earth can be. And it didn’t help that she had spent quite some time in Hollow Earth after the incident with Skar King’s remaining followers. He asked her to look over the mother crab and Iwi wasn’t the ‘gotcha ya’ moment like she believed. While the name list had been impressively long, he knew that name listing and looking over the crab mother couldn’t have been the only reasons she had stayed.

“The Iwi Queen mentioned a human tradition, didn't she?”

There was a moment of silence before Mothra sighed and slumped into the nest’s floor, “It wasn’t just her. A small group of Kong’s tribe had come looking for him. A few females were there and ended up hearing about the egg,”

Ah, so Mothra got a bit excited and blabbed.

He’s not surprised. Reminds him of the times when Mothra and Shimo would gossip about anything and everything… before the whole Ghidorah and Skar King happened.

“Let me take a guess,” Godzilla hums, “You, Shimo, and the other females had a little gossip pow-wow?”

The stink eye she gave was all he needed to confirm what he had known.

“Mothra, it's been a day since the fight and you're already wanting to invite the others over?” Godzilla titles his head and waits for her response. She’s still silent but has turned her head away to pout. Letting out a sigh, he says, “Fine, I suppose the idea isn’t that bad of one,”

“Really?” Mothra’s head shot up, her eyes wide with hope.

“Yes,” He nods. He knew he only had a few seconds to say what he needed to say before Mothra’s excitedness erupted and she left to find Shimo, “We can talk about a plan later. I know you’re going to Shimo and you two can rattle one off. Just run it by me for the next few days or so. I don’t want anything going wrong and it’ll give the humans time to visit,”

He suspects the humans would be coming to look over his wounds and he didn’t want too many visitors at once. It would give the humans time to do what they want and leave.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you!” Mothra stands up and rubs her face against Godzilla’s before she readies herself to take off, “You won’t regret this, I promise!”

And with that, she left. Godzilla let out a snort as he felt her presence heading to the nearest vortex and soon vanished.

“Yo', is the coast clear?” Rodan whispered over the link.

“She’s gone to Hollow Earth,” Godzilla urges, “Shimo will keep her busy, but I don’t know how long. We need to move fast. Behemoth, you got the wood ready?”

“It’s been ready for a few days now,” The mammoth kaiju replies, “Rodan arrived some days ago and has been charring the wood.”

“Good,” Godzilla says as everything seems to be going as planned, “Hopefully Shimo can keep Mothra busy until we get this done,”

“I’m sure she can. I mean do you not remember how long those two can gossip?” Rodan chuckles, “And I thought I was a blabbermouth,”

“You are,” Godzilla says, “They just… out do you sometimes,”

He, Rodan, and Behemoth have been planning on replacing the wood at the bottom of the nest with some fresh pieces. The wood had lost its scent over time and Godzilla missed it.

The plan the three had come up with was simple. Behemoth would find trees from his territory that had already fallen and would drag them to a clearing that Rodan would land in. Once the wood had been cut or broken into pieces that would fit the Colosseum, Rodan would char them before bringing them to his nest.

The only hitch was doing this while Mothra was gone. Godzilla wanted the wood replaced quickly, but Mothra had a habit of making conversation that can take hours to end and he wasn’t all that sure how he would react to another Kaiju near his nest.

And since he agreed to this whole Egg Shower thing, he might as well test out how he’ll react. He theorizes that he’ll not have a negative reaction to Rodan coming to his nest to drop off materials. He’ll have the Fire Kaiju stay for an hour or so and make note of any changes.

“You sure we should do this now?” Rodan asks, bringing Godzilla from his thoughts, “You had gotten into a fight yesterday. You sure you don’t want to rest for a day or two more?”

“We may have been planning this for a week, but we can wait a bit more time to allow you to recover,” Behemoth chimes in.

“It’s just some facial scratches,” Godzilla snorts, “It’s nothing to worry about, though I’m sure the humans will be arriving to look over the wounds. Which, if that’s the case, I rather get this done before those nosy beings come,”

“Don’t sound too thrilled about that,” Rodan says.

“I have better things to do than have those tiny beings climbing all over to look at some scratches,” Godzilla sighs.

“Like what? Sleep?” Rodan asks.

“Most of the time, yes,” Godzilla responds, “But I need to test something out, first,”

“You agreed to Mothra’s idea, didn’t you?” Behemoth hums, “So I assume you want to test how you’ll react to another near your nest,”

Godzilla isn’t surprised Behemoth had figured out what he planned. The mammoth-sloth Kaiju had been able to catch on to what he wanted before he had become King and this time wasn’t an expectation.

“I did,” Godzilla confirms, “If this idea is going to work, then I need to see how I’ll react and go from there,”

“Wouldn’t it be better if she was there?” Rodan questions over the link, “She’s known for keeping you calm,”

“Here’s the thing, I need to know that I can handle myself without her. While she does keep me from… being unreasonable… She isn’t going to be there all the time. Now with a little one on the way, I need to know I can handle myself without her influence,” Godzilla explains, “Last thing we need is me jumping everyone in a 30-mile radius of the nest,”

“Well, good thing I can fly. But we should get this going. It might take me some hours to get to you.” Rodan says, “I could try a vortex, but I don’t know where that’ll spit me out,”

“Do what you think is necessary to get here,” Godzilla says, “Just be careful,”

Getting a confirmation from Rodan and knowing the Fire Kaiju had taken off, Godzilla looks around his nest and huffs. He would have to clean up Mothra’s silk and remove the old wood so Rodan could place the new wood into the nest without getting himself stuck in the silk. Cleaning up her silk wouldn’t take him long, but he needed to figure out where he was going to put the old wood from his nest.

Lifting himself, Godzilla took notes of where Mothra’s silk was and did his best to gather as much as he could into his arms. Now with his arms and chest covered in silk, Godzilla leaves his nest as carefully as possible and makes his way to the water to dissolve the silk. He had done this three times to remove all the silk from the nest.

After his third trip to the water, Godzilla hears a cry and looks up to find Rodan. He had expected the other to take a bit longer to arrive, but maybe Rodan would like to take the old wood and use it for something. Maybe he could drop it off to Behemoth and the Mammoth would use it.

Rodan cycles the sky a few times before landing next to the other. In one of the Fire Bird’s talons are some large pieces of charred wood that would cover the bottom of the nest. He had expected Rodan would have had the wood in his mouth, but if that had been the case, he wouldn’t have been able to call out.

“Sup,” Rodan says.

“Got here a bit quick,” Godzilla blinks, “Haven’t removed the old wood yet,”

“I found a vortex. I think I prefer flying normally,” Rodan shakes his head, “You sure you don’t want to keep the old wood?”

“The nest isn’t big enough. You or Behemoth can have it,” Godzilla says as he makes his way to the nest. He turns to see Rodan trying to hobble, to which he says, “I’ll bring it over. Just… un…. Find a place to put the new wood?”

Rodan shrugged and leaned down to pull at the pieces in his talons. The pieces were too big to fit as they were, but at least the Fire Kaiju could keep busy while he worked on his task.

Having made it to the nest, Godzilla gathered as much of the old wood as possible. Looking at what was in his arms and what was left in the nest, he noted this would take a few trips. He didn’t realize how much wood Rodan had stuffed into the nest all those weeks ago.

He’s quite impressed.

“This is going to be a few trips,” He says once he returns to Rodan with the first load, “I didn’t realize how much you packed into the nest,”

“I’ve been making nests since I was born,” Rodan proudly says, “Maintenance, though? A pain.”

“That I can agree with,” Godzilla chuckles.

Cleaning the wood from the nest had taken a total of three trips. After dropping the third load off, Godzilla looked at the pile of new shreds and was pleased to find that Rodan had made quick work of the pieces he brought.

“Behemoth said it would be easier to bring some of the larger ones and shred them first,” Rodan drops a mouth full of shreds into the already large pile, “Not sure if this will be enough to cover the entire bottom, but it’ll give enough padding. You sure you don’t want to use some of the old ones until I bring some more fresh ones?”

“No, it’s fine,” Godzilla shakes his head before leaning down and taking some of the shreds, “If correct, those who go to baby showers or un… egg showers tend to bring gifts. If the nest needs more, you can bring it then,”

“You don’t sound too pleased by this idea,”

Godzilla looks to Rodan, who eyes him. Pondering if he should answer for a moment, Roden opens to say, “You don’t have to go along if you don’t want to. The idea sounds great— don’t get me wrong— but if you're comfortable or wanting it, then that’s that,”

Godzilla turns his head to the side, taking Rodan’s words in, “It’s not that I don’t want to. It’s just…”

Rodan clears his throat and levels a glare, “Don’t lie,”

“Ok, I don’t like the idea,” Godzilla says, “But Mothra looked so happy, and you know how I—”

“You don’t like upsetting her,” Rodan nods, “I get it, but your feelings matter too. You know how she’ll be if she finds out you're putting your feelings on the back burner for hers,”

Godzilla sighs, knowing Rodan is right, “I know. I’m trying to figure out how to talk to her about it more,”

“She’ll listen, we all know this,” Rodan hums as he goes back to shredding the wood he brought.

“I know,” Godzilla mumbles, before turning and heading to the nest.

Once at the nest, Godzilla leans down and drops the shreds. There are enough shreds that he can give the bottom of the nest a thin layer and give places where he and Mothra sleep more. After he and his Queen have a night in the nest, He’ll tell Rodan if the nest needs more wood.

Godzilla preferred a thick layer of padding for the bottom of his nests. He didn’t know what Mothra preferred, but she seemed to not mind the thick layers. He’ll have to ask her sometime, but for now, he must take care of filling the nest.

With half the Colosseum floor now covered in fresh wood shreds, Godzilla’s about to head back when he spots something. Titling his head and leaning closer, Godzilla narrowed his eyes. His daughter’s egg looked normal, but something was… off. He didn’t know what had caught his attention about his little ones’ egg, but something was off.

Was it the way the sun’s rays had bounced off the egg? The golden sheen that appeared when the sun hit the surface had been something that always fascinated him. It reminded him of the sheen and glow that Mothra’s eyes had when she was showing strong emotions.

Moving his head from side to side, Godzilla’s glaze catches something. He didn’t know what it was at first, so he moved his head closer. With his eyes now level with the little ones’ egg, his eyes roam until they settle on something around the bottom of the egg.

Blinking several times until his eyes were wide, Godzilla couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Breath caught in his throat at the shock and awe of what he was seeing, Godzilla could feel a smile pulling on his lips.

Cracks.

His little ones’ egg had cracks webbing around the bottom and the feeling of giddiness wells in his chest. Lifting himself up and trying to calm his heart, Godzilla couldn’t believe what’s happening.

Hatching.

His daughters were beginning to hatch and soon he and Mothra would have a little Ghidorahess running around.

Taking a few breaths, Godzilla grounds himself. He needs to finish filling the nest with shreds and let Rodan head home. But he knew he couldn’t hold the excitement in for long. He needed to tell someone what he found.

Having made his way to Rodan, Godzilla goes to pick up another arm full of shreds.

“What’s got you all smiling?” Rodan hums, “You don’t normally look this… excited,”

“Cracks,” It’s the only word that could come out of his mouth, “Cracks,”

Rodan tilts his head and gives a confused look, “What do you mean ‘cracks’?”

“The egg,” Godzilla says, “There’s cracks at the bottom of the egg,”

Rodan widened his eyes, knowing what Godzilla had meant, “Dude, you know what that means, right?”

Godzilla nods, his words failing him.

“Dude, G, I know you're not comfortable with that Egg Shower idea, but—”

“It’s ok,” Godzilla says, breath shaking a little, “I know. I know what’s going to happen when Mothra finds out. She’ll drag everyone here to see the egg before the little ones’ hatch,”

“Dude this is awesome!” Rodan laughs with excitement. Then his tone changes to one of sass, “Hope you're ready for sleepless nights,”

“Hope you ready to be an uncle,” Godzilla claps back, “Don’t think you and the others are getting out of babysitting duty that easily,”

“Well, see about that,” Rodan shakes his head with a laugh, “Alright, here’s your shreds. I have to get going, but this should give the nest enough to be comfortable in. See you soon, I believe?”

“Yeah,” Godzilla nods, “And keep this on the down low for now, will you?”

“I can keep a secret,” Rodan snorts as he gets ready to take off, “Good luck keeping this from Mothra, though!”

Godzilla shook his head as Rodan left, but Rodan had a point. He’s going to have a time trying to keep the cracks hidden from the moth, but it seems she has not spotted them as of now.

He didn’t like keeping secrets, but he could imagine it. The Egg Shower happening, and everyone there and Mothra discovering the cracks on the egg. He knew that would make the event worthwhile for all.

Heading to the nest with an armful of wood shreds, Godzilla didn’t find the idea all that bad now. Once the nest is filled, he curls around the egg and purrs.

Oh, he couldn’t wait for his little ones’ to arrive.

Chapter Text

Knowing his daughters’ egg had cracks had been the most excitement Godzilla had been given these past few weeks. He isn’t sure as to when they would hatch, though he’d hoped that they would hatch sometime after the egg shower and everyone has visited.

Now a thought pressed his mind. Should he tell Mothra what he found or allow her to discover this herself?

Godzilla mulled over what he wanted to do. The moth is already in Hollow Earth chatting it up with Shimo and if she were to find out about their daughters hatching soon that would send the moth into a frenzy.

Planning to have as many Kaijus visiting as possible isn’t something that could be planned in a day. Godzilla wouldn’t be surprised if Mothra and Shimo were taking into account the heavily human-populated area that Godzilla had chosen for his nest.

It wasn’t his fault that his nest was in a heavily human-populated area. He likes the way the ancient amphitheater had been constructed; it reminds him of his old home.

And he’s sure the humans who live here would like to have their Colosseum back, but he needed to find a more suitable place to make a nest. The one he found underwater would have been a perfect place to set up, but Mothra couldn’t breathe underwater, and he assumes their daughters’ are the same.

Once their daughters have grown up and found a nest of their own, Godzilla might make the temple his new home. At least it’s a place where he can have some alone time if the humans are getting a little too nosy.

He only wished he could bring Mothra and their daughters with him. Few relics from the past have survived on the surface and he would love to show his daughters what ancient humans had created compared to what modern humans have. He wanted to pass on the wonders of the ancient world to someone who would appreciate what has survived and learn.

Of course, he knew that there were humans who would love to study the ancient world, and the relics left behind. But, with how destructive the beings are, he didn’t want to risk losing the potential of a new home.

Curling around his daughters’ egg, Godzilla sighs as he soaks in the Sun’s warmth. Taking a breath, he inflates the pleasant scent of the new wood and purrs. It had been a good idea to enlist Behemoth and Rodan in getting some new wood into the nest. Though he wished the nest had been filled more, what was brought will do for now.

Now, if he were to make the underwater temple his new nest, he wouldn’t be able to have wood shreds brought as bedding. Godzilla had not seen any opening that would allow Rodan to fly in and out safely.

Decisions… decisions.

Many decisions he had to make, but he should have plenty of time to think. However, he did not know how long it would take for his daughters’ to grow into adulthood. He assumes they are replies, like himself, so he suspected they would be fully grown within a year. Maybe two depending on what they needed for food and how much.

With the Sun’s warmth combined with the warm life from the egg, Godzilla can feel himself lulling into sleep. Knowing his Queen, she’ll take her time returning from Hollow Earth and Godzilla is known for not passing up an opportunity to sleep no matter if it's a millennia sleep or an afternoon nap.

Letting his eyes close, Godzilla blocks out the human city and focuses on the rhythmic thumping of his daughters’ heart and the wind. It’s not long before he slips into sleep.

After waking up after an unknown amount of time, Godzilla yawns as he lifts his head and shakes the sleep. Looking to the sky, he finds the Sun is still visible and from the position, he suspects it's close to early evening. Yawning, Godzilla assumes he’s had a short nap due to still feeling tired and wanting to return to said nap.

Godzilla looks around the nest and doesn’t see Mothra, however he isn’t surprised by this. He had a feeling Mothra would be returning late due to how long she and Shimo could talk. He wouldn't be surprised if some of the females from Kong’s tribe had joined in. Maybe even the Iwi if the Hollow Earth humans were close enough.

With a big yawn, Godzilla lets his eyes close as he feels himself falling back into sleep. But it was short-lived when his senses prickled.

Opening his eyes and lifting his head, Godzilla turns in the direction that causes his senses to prickle. He knew who had caused the sensation and her presence was growing stronger with every moment.

The first sound he hears is the flapping of her wings. Their light, yet strong enough to cut the air as she makes her way towards him. The second sound is a trill, her call to let him know she’s almost home. And lastly, he sees her appear above the nest. She circles before landing and steps gently and quietly against the bed of the nest until she finds a place to lie down. Which happened to be against their daughters’ egg, which is now sandwiched between them.

“So,” Godzilla hums, “How did this visit go?”

“It went well,” Mothra chirps, “Shimo and some of the females from Kong’s tribe had so many ideas!”

“Really now?” Godzilla cocked his head to the side with another hum, “And what were some of these ideas?”

Godzilla knew this question would open the floodgates. He expects Mothra to be overly excited to spill what she and the others had spoken about during their little pow-wow, maybe there’s an idea that he’ll like or something that he could build off of. But, knowing Mothra, she and the others she spoke with wouldn’t leave any stone unturned.

Or more accurately, no idea left unsaid.

“While there were many, one stood out that everyone seemed to agree on,” Mothra ruffled her wings as she allowed one to completely cover the egg. She would have laid herself over the egg like she had when she first was introduced, but it was mostly against Godzilla’s body. She noticed a particular look from the King and flicked one of her antennae, “What?”

“Nothing,” Godzilla says innocently, though he can feel what Mothra wants to do through their link. He would have chuckled, but that would have informed Mothra that he was onto her, “So, what was this idea?”

“Well, Shimo had suggested that we bring the egg to Hollow Earth before it hatches. Due to you having concerns about the others visiting in a human city, Shimo thinks that Hollow Earth would be a good place to have everyone meet up. It would remove the human part of the situation and finding a place for the meet up would be easy too,” Mothra explains, “Kong has offered to allow us to use the tribe's home as a meeting place if needed or help in finding a place if you’re not wanting to intrude.”

Godzilla hums as he mulls over what Mothra has said. Finding a place in Hollow Earth for the egg shower would avoid multiple Kaijus coming to his nest, but this idea involves the egg being moved from the nest into a place that Godzilla knows is not a safe place. He isn’t sure how he’ll react to moving their daughters’ egg into a space that he knows is dangerous, but Kong’s offer is something he can use if he does decide to use this idea.

“For the idea, was that all that had been talked about?” He wonders if there’s anything else that Mothra and the others in Hollow Earth had spoken about, “Did the Iwi happen to say anything about the idea?”

“One part of the suggested idea was for us to make a nest in Hollow Earth, but I’m not sure if you’ll—”

“That’s not happening.” Godzilla growls, “We’ve been in the nest too long for me to completely uphaul to a new nesting sight,”

Not with their daughters’ egg having cracks. Making a new nest in Hollow Earth would take time and Godzilla would have to get Rodan to fill that new nest with the wood shreds that he loves to have. This would also involve Behemoth finding logs or trees that could be used and those would have to be transported to Hollow Earth.

That sounded like nothing but a headache that Godzilla didn’t want to deal with.

“I had a feeling that is something you would say,” Mothra hums, “Making a nest in Hollow Earth would take time… time we may not have. I’m not sure when the girls will hatch and if they hatch while we relocate, that’ll cause safety issues.”

Godzilla calmed himself with a deep sigh before laying his head down, “The idea is a good one, but there’s a lot that could go wrong and I do not want anything happening to our daughters. I like the idea, I do, but it might be best to try and have everyone come here.”

“And the human?” Mothra yawns with a stretch, “How are we going to keep them safe?”

“I’m sure we’ll figure something out,” Godzilla responds with a yawn, “Time for bed?”

Godzilla chuckles as Mothra mumbles something before she falls silent and her breathing evens out. Yawning again, Godzilla closes his eyes and falls asleep with the thought of how they would traverse the humans when the time for the egg shower comes.

He had not expected to wake up three days later to a particular nerve-grating sound.

Godzilla had heard the sound of the human’s metal bird, and the annoyance began to creep on his nerves. Lifting his head and turning his gaze to where he sees a group of humans heading towards him and Mothra.

Said moth had been sleeping next to him until the human’s metal bird had woken her up. She let out an annoyed huff and ruffled her wings but had not moved from where she lay. Godzilla understands why his Queen is annoyed to hear the sound of the metal bird; he gets annoyed by the sound as well but for different reasons.

Watching the human group come closer, Godzilla wonders why they have come. He didn’t need a check-up, but he hasn’t gone to feed on radiation for a while, and could this be the reason? Rodan was here for a while, so are the humans worried about the additional radiation and heat that the Fire Kaiju gives off?

If Jia’s there, he’ll ask.

“I wonder what has brought them here?” Mothra inquiries, “Nothing has happened that would have them come here on short notice,”

“Not sure,” Godzilla rolled his eyes, “I hope they're not here to be annoying. I’m not in the mood to deal with stupid today,”

“I, for once, agree,” Mothra yawns, “I want to go back to sleep,”

Godzilla loved that idea. He’d love to go back to sleep too. He had been sleeping for the past three days soundly until the sound of that grating metal bird. But the annoyance lessened when he saw who was in the group of humans.

“Well, well, long time no see, Big Guy,”

He knew that particular voice and if Godzilla could speak human language, he’d ask Trapper what he and the others were doing here. But Godzilla doubts that’ll be something that could happen. He wasn’t like Mothra, who had a bloodline linked to her and had developed the ability to communicate.

Laying his head down and giving a rumble, Godzilla looks over the group and notes all who are present. There’s Maddie and her father along with Mothra’s human, Chen. Trapper and Brody were there as well. And last but not least, there’s Jia and her mother.

Turning his head to the only human who can understand him and asks, “What has brought everyone here?”

“Not sure, maybe something about Rodan being here,” Jia shrugs, “Some are scanning where Rodan had been. Trapper wanted to see what you and the egg were doing, so the group split,”

So, it was due to Rodan's coming that had spurred the humans into coming. Not that he could blame the humans for any concern they would hold. With Rodan’s biology being that of a living volcano, he’ll be more detrimental to human settlements than most Kaijus.

This includes the King, himself.

“Rodan is good at controlling his abilities when needed,” Mothra hums, rubbing her face into the wood shreds before she turns her gaze to Godzilla, “You’d thought I wouldn’t notice?”

“His scent was around the area, not something that can easily be hidden. The wood has a nice scent, I like it,” Godzilla says, then turns his attention back to Jia, “The egg and myself are fine. A little tired, but nothing that should be cause for concern.”

However, what Mothra said about Rodan is true, evident by how there isn’t much destruction to where the Fire Kaiju had been. Of course, some of the ground and any buildings nearby may have been scorched. But that would be nothing compared to what Rodan could have done.

“I think your definition of “concern” is different to Monarch’s,” Jia says as she turns her head to where her mother stood.

Godzilla followed the girl’s gaze and found most of the humans were congregated around Mark, who was holding one of those metal squares again. The small object didn’t seem to do any harm, so Godzilla did not pay the tiny thing much mind.

No, he had something more important that he needed to have addressed.

“Jia,” Godzilla calls to the Iwi child, who turned to him, “I need you to do something for me and Mothra,”

The child tilted her head, knowing that these two don’t normally ask for something to be done for them, “Which is?”

“We’re going to need the humans in the area to be moved for a while,” Mothra hums, “The other Kaiju want to see the egg, but with this being a heavily populated area, there’s a high chance of humans being injured.”

“Wait! Are you planning a baby shower?” Jia questions, sounding rather surprised and… expected.

“Yes,” Mothra chirps, “You’re the only one that can understand us, so we need some help letting the other humans know what we’re wanting to do,”

“Yeah! I can help!” Jia runs up to her mom and begins to sign, but rather fast.

Godzilla didn’t know what Jia’s fingers were telling her mother, but the surprised reaction from the woman was all he needed to know. He knew it would be only seconds before the group learned of what he, Mothra, and the other Kaijus were planning.

“What?” The child’s mother exclaims, drawing the attention of the human group.

After telling the other humans what she had been told, most of the group’s calm demeanor turned into a frenzy of excitement. The only one who doesn’t seem to show excitement like the others is Mark. Instead, the human pulled out a device that was smaller than the metal square that he had passed to Trapper. He isn’t sure what Mark is doing with the smaller object against his ear, but he can see the human’s lips moving.

“We’re going to have to evacuate Rome, at least a small area near the Colosseum,” Mark says, beginning to walk slightly away from the group with Maddie and Chen in tow.

While Godzilla couldn’t hear what the human male was saying, he noticed how excited the two females were next to him. Though it seems out of the three, Maddie appeared to be the most excited. She had her small device out and was looking between it and the two adults. The adult female with them appeared to be calming Maddie while her father spoke to his small device.

Moving his gaze to Jia, he finds the girl’s mother ‘speaking’ to her to likely get as much information out of the child as she could. Mothra had not told Jia much, but hopefully, it was enough to get this group to start moving the humans around the nest to a safer settlement.

Not caring what Trapper and Brody were doing, Godzilla just mindlessly watched the group for about an hour or so until the humans began to leave.

“The evacuations will take some time,” Jia says, “I’m not sure how long it’ll take until the area is fully empty, but they’ll try to get evacuations started sometime tonight.”

Mothra lets out a hum in thought before saying, “How about we check back in three days? That should give enough time to get most of the populous to be placed in an area that’s a safe distance away,”

“That can be arranged,” Jia responds, “But, there’s a lot that goes into evacuating, so it may take longer than three days,”

“As long as we’re giving updates, then there shouldn’t be too many issues,” Godzilla hums, “I know humans can be… stubborn at times,”

“Like you?” Mothra teases.

“No,” Godzilla huffs, “I’m worse. Much worse,”

Mothra flicked an antenna, before turning her attention back to Jia, “It seems to be time for you to start going. I believe your mother is calling you,”

Jia turns to see that Mothra is correct. Turning back to the expecting parents, she bids them farewell and runs to her mother’s side as the human group leaves. Once the sound of the metal bird starts, Godzilla watches as the flying thing rises into the sky and takes off.

“I wonder where they go?” Mothra muses.

“There’s an outpost called Castle Bravo,” Godzilla responds, laying his head down, “I believe it’s an important outpost. It had gone dark once and it seemed the other outposts had panicked,”

“When did this happen?” Mothra inquires, mimicking Godzilla as one of her wings covers the egg.

“On the day the egg was discovered,” Godzilla yawns, tired from the surprise visit of the humans, “Wasn’t expecting a sudden visit, but it was a pleasant one.”

“An important one as well,” Mothra yawns, “A nap seems nice right now,”

Godzilla chuckles but agrees. A nap did sound good and since they have slept already, the nap shouldn’t be too long.

He had not expected to have another three-day nap and wake up to a smaller group of humans staring at him. Luckily it was Jia and Maddie. But he still doesn’t like going to sleep with no humans near him and waking up to find some near him.

What is with these creatures? Are they trying to be professional jumpscares?

“How long have y'all been there?” The Gojirain asks, feeling a bit unnerved, “How many times have I said not to do that?”

“Not long, a few minutes at best,” Jia snickers, clearly finding the situation amusing.

“You both realized I could have crushed you if I haven’t had seen you when I woke up,” Godzilla huffs, “I swear your parents are going to go grey because of you two,”

Jia turns to Maddie and moves her fingers in the strange way she communicates with others. The older female laughs, seeming to find what was said to her funny.

Maddie turns to Godzilla and says, “Dad’s been going grey since Boston,”

Godzilla rolled his eyes and a huff from his nose blew against the girls’ hair. However, he was mindful of his strength and to not blow the two off their feet. He wasn’t all the surprised the human pups were being mischievous, though he wondered when their parents would find—

“Maddie!”

“Jia!”

— Out. Oh, that had not taken long at all.

Godzilla watched as the two adults made their way over to the mischievous twins. He hoped his daughters’ wouldn’t have this kind of mischievousness once they hatch and grow. He didn’t think he could handle something like this, but it would be funny to see the other Kaijus scared once in a while.

“Maddie, what have I said about going up to any Titan? And I don’t mean while they're sleeping, we’ve had this conversation before,” Mark’s voice is a mix of evaporated and out of breath, “I’m grey enough as is,”

Unfortunately, Godzilla had a feeling Mark was going to be greyer in the future. While Mark had a word with his daughter, Godzilla turned his gaze to Jia and found the younger girl’s mother moving her fingers in the same strange way that Jia’s did.

“He already knew we were here Dad,” Maddie tries to plead, “You can’t truly sneak up on a Titan,”

Not wanting the human’s disagreement to wake his daughters or Mothra, Godzilla let out an annoyed grunt and blew a bit of air toward the humans. Once the humans had their attention on him, Godzilla looked at Jia and asked, “So how’s the evacuations going?”

Watching Jia turn to Mark; she nods as the human straightens himself up. Godzilla also notices how the human slides himself in front of his daughter as he steps forward a few paces.

“To make this quick, the evacuations are going smoothly. Most of the area has been cleared out, but we suspect it’ll take another two days or so to completely clear the area around the Colosseum,” Mark says, turning to his daughter when he feels her hand against his shoulder. He nods to her before turning his attention back to Godzilla, “If an area wider than that around the Colosseum is needed, then evacuations could take longer,”

“These evacuates are taking longer than expected, Godzilla moved his eyes to Jia, “Is moving Humans that difficult?”

Jia turns to her mother and relays the question, to which the woman turns to Mark and says, “He wants to know why the evacuations are taking so long,”

Mark takes a breath to calm his nerves, “We’re having to move people far from the Colosseum, so they don't get exposed to radiation. While that is happening, we are also preparing the homes of these people so there isn’t radiation contamination. Unfortunately, this process does take a while. There’s only so much we can do when on a time limit,”

Godzilla tilted his head and mulled over what Mark had given him. The human’s explanation was reasonable and did tell him why this evacuation was taking its time. He let out a hum and turned his head to face Jia.

“So, from what I heard, more time is being requested?” Godzilla asks.

“Yes,” Jia says, “They’re trying to track how long it’ll take, but there’s a lot that has to be done,”

Godzilla hums, feeling satisfied with the answer, “Come and check back in a week. I can give as much time as is needed, but I’m not sure about the others. They’ll start to get a bit antsy and I’m not sure how long I’ll be able to keep them settled,”

“I’ll let them know,” Jia says as she turns to her mother to give the information.

“He wants us to check back in a week,” Jia’s Mother says.

“We can do that,” Mark says, “Most of the people should be evacuated by then,”

Once an agreement had come about, Mark had taken a few scans. Apparently, Trapper wasn’t pleased with the ones he got and wanted some more that were clearer. Godzilla didn’t care since the humans were not doing anything that would cause harm. Once Mark had gotten what was needed, the group had left as quickly as they had come.

Laying his head down and letting out a snort, Godzilla closed his eyes and was ready to return to sleep.

“You did very well talking with them,” Mothra’s pleased voice comes from his side.

Cracking open an eye, Godzilla finds the moth curled against the egg with her head resting on it, “How long have you been up?”

“Not that long,” She hums, “Enough to hear what was said this visit,”

Godzilla hums as he closes his eyes, starting to feel sleep taking him.

“I’m sure our girls are going to be just as mischievous as Jia and Maddie are. Maybe more so, since there are three of them,” Mothra sounded too thrilled. Way too thrilled.

“I hope not. If so, they’re strictly your daughters then,” Godzilla sneered, “I’m not wanting to turn grey. Not like Mark is,”

Mothra laughed as Godzilla turned her out. He wanted to return to sleep, but the thought of the little Ghidorness being like the human pups or worse would give him nightmares.

Thanks, Mothra.

Thanks a lot.

Chapter 11

Summary:

As the evacuation is underway, Godzilla has to have a talk with others as their excitement starts to get on his nerves.
Once he and Mothra are given the green light, Godzilla tells everyone that they can head out. The first to arrive is Rodan and Behemoth.

Later, Barb along with Kong's group arrive and Godzilla allows Suko to do something that he has not let the adults do.

Chapter Text

“So, how’s the nest doing?”

Godzilla could feel a blood vessel throbbing, and his patience running thin. He understood what Rodan meant by his request. For the past two weeks, every Kaiju has been asking when they could come to see the egg.

Of course, he understood the excitement over such a historical event happening in real time. But the humans were still evacuating and preparing the area for the shower. He couldn’t command the tiny beings to move faster than they already were. So, his subjects have no choice but to wait.

All Godzilla wanted was for the others to leave him alone and wait until the humans gave the go-ahead. The constant pestering had put the King in a sour mood.

“The nest is fine,” Godzilla huffs.

“You’re sounding annoyed again,” Rodan comments, “What is it this time?”

“I’m tired,” Godzilla takes a deep breath. He needed to get this situation off his chest, and Mothra wasn’t there. She had headed to Hollow Earth to inform Kong about the evacuation process, “I’m tired of the constant asking. I know this is something everyone is looking forward to. Both kaijus and humans, but I can’t make them move any faster. They're moving as fast as their tiny bodies can allow, and this means they need time.”

Godzilla rests his chin on his daughters’ egg before he continues, “I’m not mad, I want to get that straight. I’m not mad about everyone wanting to know when they can come over, but the constant asking is getting on my nerves.”

“I wasn’t asking about the humans,” Rodan says, sounding honest, “I mean it, how’s the nest doing? Mothra grumbled a few nights ago, and apparently, she finds the bedding too thin.”

“Wait,” Godzilla blinked, confused at what Rodan had said, “I don’t remember her complaining,”

“You were sleeping,” Behemoth chimes in, “Though I do believe Mothra had been in a sour mood before she started her complaints on the bedding.”

That made Godzilla hum and think for a moment. He did notice a few days or so ago that Mothra had seemed a bit annoyed. He had chalked that up to the tourists who had tried to get a little too close to the nest. Though Godzilla did wonder how those tiny ones had gotten through.

Maybe he’ll have the question passed to someone from Monarch once the shower has taken place and everything’s settled.

“There was an incident with some of the tiny beings trying to come near the nest. It happened a few days ago. It's possible that it had soured her mood.” Godzilla says, “You all sure she wasn’t complaining about anything and everything? She has been more… un… temperamental lately.”

Godzilla isn’t sure if temperamental was the correct word to describe how Mothra has been the past two weeks. In the beginning, she seemed to be her normal self. But, as the days dragged on, her mood slowly went from pleasant to annoyed. He believed her annoyance came about due to the same reason as his.

He also noticed that she didn’t fancy the metal birds, and there had been many flying around the past two weeks.

Whenever one was spotted, Mothra glared at the tiny thing and growled. She may even flick an antenna or vibrate her wings if she feels it is necessary. Luckily for him, the humans, and the nest, the flying things never got close enough to warrant a shot of silk.

But her mood had soured since.

“I suppose temperamental is one way to put it,” Rodan snorts, “Personally, I believe she’s hormonal, just like someone else we—”

“Don’t start that,” Godzilla grumbles, the tip of his tail thumping against the bottom of the nest.

He did not need Rodan annoying him. If Mothra were to come back to find him in a bad mood and learned that Rodan had caused it, he knew that he wouldn’t be able to stop her if she wanted to fly to Rodan and have a word with the bird.

“Denying it is not going to help your case,” Rodan snickers.

“And pissing me off to the point that Mothra has a word with you doesn’t help your case either, Rodan,” Godzilla mocks, then snorts, “I’m serious, she’ll fly herself to you and you know how painful her stinger is,”

“I don't need a reminder,” Rodan grumbles.

Godzilla snorted as he imagined the firebird wrapping his wings around himself and pouting. It's something the Fire Kaiju tends to do when he's annoyed but knows when someone is right about something.

“So, back on topic,” Godzilla redirects, “If Mothra wants more bedding in the nest, then it’s best that Rodan and Behemoth come first. I’m not sure how much more Mothra would like, so I’m thinking it’s a good idea to have both of you carry a decent-sized log. Mothra likes having thick bedding compared to the thin ones that I like.”

“I still have some downed trees that I can break into more portable sizes,” Behemoth shares, “I’m not sure how many Rodan and I should bring.”

“How about this,” Godzilla hums in thought, “Both of you carry at least one smallish log. If Mothra doesn’t find the shreds from those logs significant enough for her liking, one of you two could always come back with more.”

“Knowing Mothra, I’ll end up having to come back sometime after the egg shower,” Rodan says, “This isn’t the first time I’ve had to help her build a nest. The amount of bedding she likes has me questioning whether or not she used to make those massive clearing back in the old days.”

“Which 'old days' are you talking about?” Barb questioned, “Many of us have lived for decades, centuries, or millennia. Some might even be an eon or two old.”

“I’m talking about the time of the dinosaurs, of course. From the beginning of the Triassic all the way until the very last dinosaurs died out was one of the craziest and best times for a Kaiju to be on the surface.” Rodan jabbers, “I wouldn’t be surprised if Mothra would create a small clearing when she wanted to make a nest, and the time during the dinosaurs would be a much better time for her to do something like that. We know how she is with humans,”

“Well, those of us that could sustain ourselves on the surface radiation at the time,” Godzilla muses, “Some of us did have to hibernate.”

“G, you were up and about during that time as well,” Rodan snorted, “I know you slept most of the time, but you were up and walking about. I know you were a menace to some tyrannosaurs back then.”

“Hey!” Godzilla exclaimed, “They were in my sleeping spot! What was I supposed to do?”

“Find another spot, duh.” Rodan articulated.

“Yeah, no, that wasn’t happening and you know it.” Godzilla huffed.

“Ok, boys, enough,” Barb chides before addressing Godzilla, “So, once Rodan and Behemoth have taken care of the bedding, which one of us should start heading out? Assuming that you and Mothra would like to have Rodan and Behemoth there a day or so before everyone else.”

“Once Rodan or Behemoth say they’ve made it to the nest, everyone else can start heading out.” Godzilla yawns, “Take your time getting here. I have a feeling this shower will be a few days or a weeklong, and that should give everyone time to come here and see the egg without putting everyone into a hurry.”

“Tired again?” Barb asks.

“Well, I’m always tired,” Godzilla yawns again, “I’ve been having interrupted sleep as of late, so I’m going to be a bit more tired. It’s possible I may need to feed soon. The humans haven’t said anything about my radiation levels, but I am feeling a bit… hungry.”

“Would you like for some of us to bring some radiation when we visit?” Barb hums.

“I can feed sometime after the shower, and the humans have resettled into their settlement.” Godzilla stifles a yawn as he stretches, “This shower is going to be stressful as is, and I don't think the humans want more radiation in their home.”

Godzilla didn't pay much mind as the others conversed until one by one, they had fallen asleep or went to do something else.

Once the link had gone quiet, Godzilla allowed himself to fall into a light sleep. One that he would easily awaken from once he felt Mothra return to the surface.

It had been some hours, but the presence of Mothra coming from the closest vortex had drawn Godzilla from his light slumber. Lifting his head and turning his head to the left, he waited to see his Queen’s image come over the horizon.

He hears her trill first before her frame comes into view. Responding to her call with a rumble from him, Godzilla watches as Mothra circles overhead before finding a place to land and settling into the ancient Amphitheatre. Once she had settled herself next to his side, Godzilla huffed and laid his chin on the egg in his arms.

“Did anything happen while I was gone?” Mothra hums, stretching out her larger front limbs in the direction of the egg he holds.

“From the humans? No,” Godzilla lifts his head and allows Mothra to take the egg into her embrace, “Some of the others and I did have a talk,”

“About?” Mothra settles the egg against her body and wraps her large set of limbs around it.

“Rodan and Behemoth might be the first to come and visit. Rodan had mentioned that you were unsatisfied with the amount of bedding the nest has.” Godzilla yawns, “He and Behemoth will bring sizable pieces of wood and shred them for the nest. Once that is done, the others will start to head our way.”

“Hmm…” Mothra tilts her head from side to side as she mulls over the plan. After a few minutes, she nods, “That’ll work just fine.”

Another yawn comes from the Gojirain as sleep calls to him yet again.

“You’ve been tired more lately,” Mothra noted.

“I may need to feed soon. Possibly sometime after the others have visited,” Godzilla answered, “While the humans have not said anything about my health, I am feeling hungry.”

Godzilla hums as Mothra nods along with a yawn coming from her. Seems he isn’t the only one who’s feeling a bit sleepy.

“I can go for a nap.”

Mothra flicked one of her antennae and snorted, “You’re always down for a nap.”

There’s a hearty purr as he knew he couldn’t argue with his Queen on this. But, he knew Mothra would take a nap at any chance she could get. While she is more active than he is, Godzilla has caught the moth sleeping for months on end. But that had been before humans had dominated the Earth. Once humans have become the dominant species, Mothra has been staying awake more and more.

It wasn’t long before both had fallen silent and into sleep.

The next time they awaken, they are greeted by the small group of humans who have become familiar. The news they were given had put the expecting parents into an excited mood.

The evacuations were complete, and they were given the go-ahead to have the others visit.

It’s time.

Finally, the time that all the others have been anticipating has arrived. Once the expecting King and Queen were given the green light to let the others come, Godzilla told Rodan and Behemoth they could head out.

Godzilla looked over to where Rodan and Behemoth had settled. They arrived a few hours ago, and both were sitting near the sea where Rodan had been when he first visited. The two had brought sizable logs and were working on shredding and charring them.

While Rodan and Behemoth worked, Godzilla had been nudged out of the nest by Mothra. The Gojirain had scooped their daughters’ egg up before being kicked out, and now he’s nestled himself somewhere between the nest and where the new arrivals were seated.

The four were doing their best not to damage the human settlement around them. For now, there has been little damage to the buildings. Due to his size, Godzilla had no choice but to step too close to a few structures and cause some destruction. He did feel bad about having done such a thing, but there was solace.

The humans had informed him and Mothra that damage happening to the buildings would be normal due to the number of individuals coming. Once Monarch had announced the egg shower to the world, the organization had opened a donation site where humans could donate money to help with building repairs.

Godzilla watched as Mothra inspected wood shreds and, if she deemed them suitable, gathered as much as she could and took them back to the nest. He could have easily transported the new shreds to the nest, but Mothra is particular about how she likes her nest bedding. He would much rather let the moth do as she pleases instead of getting an earful.

Conversations were anything and everything, typical catching up that would happen when one has not seen a friend or family member in a long time. Godzilla didn’t participate, enjoying the sun and the warmth of the egg against his chest. He did overhear some of what the others were conversing about, and what he picked up is that Rodan is happy where he’s roosted now. The humans that visit haven’t been as annoying as he originally expected, but they did miss his previous roosting spot.

That’s something Godzilla can relate to. While he’s content with where he’s nested, he misses his old lair. The last attachment he had with those who had worshiped and cared for him had been erased in order to give him life and strength to defeat Ghidorah.

Moving from Rodan to Behemoth, Godzilla notes that Behemoth seems to be doing well in his territory and that the Amazon is flourishing where the mammoth-sloth had settled in. But he has been dealing with humans who have been trying to harm the Amazon and those who defend it. Godzilla makes a mental note to mention this to Monarch and see if they can give Behemoth a helping hand, even though Behemoth and the organization are not on good terms.

Which is something Godzilla can’t blame Behemoth for. He still has issues with the organization.

He isn’t sure how many trips Mothra had made to the nest, but evening had arrived and Godzilla wanted to return to the nest before the sun set. To his good luck, Mothra was satisfied with how much bedding filled the nest and beckoned Godzilla over.

With the egg in his arms, Godzilla lifts himself up and heads over to the nest. Looking into the nest, he can see the work Mothra had done. While the bedding did not appear thick, Godzilla knew otherwise. Mothra has been making nests and is known for packing bedding in tight.

Stepping into the nest, Godzilla passed the egg to Mothra so he could settle himself into the nest without worrying about injuring it. Once settled and comfortable, Godzilla motions to Mothra, who gives him the egg before settling down next to him. With the egg nestled between the King and Queen, Godzilla looks over to where Rodan and Behemoth were.

He can tell both are fighting sleep.

Rodan was swaying side to side with his head lulled to one side. The Fire Kaiju was speaking, but his words were slurred with exhaustion and sleep. Behemoth wasn’t better off. The mammoth-slot Kaiju had yawned several times as he and Rodan conversed. He wasn’t swaying like Rodan was, but Godzilla could tell the Mastodon-like Kaiju was ready to fall asleep on his feet.

“You both should settle down and get some sleep,” Godzilla calls out, “The next upcoming days are going to be rather… ah…”

“Exciting? Stressful? Busy? Nervous?” Mothra interjects with a little yawn.

“I thought you were sleeping,” Godzilla hums, “But yes. One of those words would work. Or a mix of them, I’m not sure.”

“I was about to,” Mothra yawns, “Try not to stay up too late,”

Godzilla watches as Mothra’s breathing evens out, indicating to him that she has fallen into sleep. He looked over to Rodan and Behemoth and found the two lying down. Their chest rose and fell in an even rhythmic pattern, which told the King that both had fallen asleep.

Lying his head down, Godzilla let the sound of those sleeping and the ocean lull him into sleep. He knew that the upcoming days were going to be nerve-racking, filled with excitement.

It wasn’t long before morning arrived, and the first to wake was Godzilla. The cool morning was quiet aside from the snoring from those still sleeping. It wouldn’t be long until the others would arrive, and this historical event would officially kick off. While he had an inkling of how the others could react, he still isn’t sure how he’ll react to them all here.

So far, he doesn’t care that Rodan and Behemoth are here, but they have not come close to the nest yet. He had told the rest to take their time in coming to the amphitheater, since there wasn’t a need to rush. It would take Kong and his little group a while to arrive, depending on where a Hollow Earth vortex spat them out. Though he had a feeling Shimo would be able to find a vortex close by.

Godzilla lifted his head and gazed over at the empty buildings of the tiny ones that had to be relocated for the time being. He wonders what the inside of these structures looks like. He had gotten a glimpse or two of the insides, but that was only due to fights that had used the human settlements as a battleground. He never purposely peered into the buildings just to look inside, even though he was curious about the human world around him.

Moving his attention from the empty buildings to their first visitors, Godzilla finds both are still sleeping. Though it seems Rodan had moved about in his sleep, seeing the Fire Kaiju sleeping on his back with one wing stretched out and the other covering himself like a blanket was anything to go by.

Meanwhile, Behemoth had stayed the same. His head is nestled on his crossed arms, and Godzilla knew if the Mastodon-like Kaiju was hidden in the depths of a forest, humans would mistake him for a small mountain or wouldn’t be able to find him at all.

Hearing a sound to his side, Godzilla turns his attention and finds Mothra stretching with a yawn.

“Morning,”

“Morning,” Mothra mumbles as she shakes her head to fight off sleep, “How’s our two arrivals?”

“Still sleeping,” Godzilla answers, “It’s early morning, doubt they’ll be waking up anytime soon.”

“What about the others? How long until they arrive?”

“They might arrive sometime later today,” Godzilla muses, “I know I told them to take their time, but something tells me they’re too expected to listen.”

“Oh, I wouldn’t be surprised if you see a few sometime this afternoon,” Mothra lets out a chuckle as she lifts herself up and flutters her wings.

Godzilla looks to her and tilts his head, “Going somewhere?”

“No,” The Queen hums, settling herself back down. “Just giving my wings a stretch,”

Godzilla gives a snort as he moves his gaze to the egg that Mothra had all to herself since yesterday, and he wants some time with the golden shell that kept their daughters safe. He watches as Mothra looks from him to the egg and back to him. The two look at each other for a few moments before Mothra speaks…

“Not until some of the others arrive,” She chirps.

Godzilla wilted at her answer but knew arguing with her would not get him what he wanted. With how hormonal both have been, Godzilla knew a fight would put them in a bad mood and that could snowball into ruining the mood of the others. He’ll have to wait until she makes her decision.

“Who do you think will arrive first out of the others?” Mothra says after some silence, “I think it’ll be Barb.”

“Aside from Rodan and Behemoth? Whoever is closest,” Godzilla hums in thought, “It could be Barb, but I think it’s going to be Kong and his little group.”

“Why is that?” The moth tilted her head, “It’ll take them a while to find a vortex.”

“Shimo,” Godzilla simply says, “She’s good at finding vortexes that are close to where they need to go. I’m sure she’ll find one that’s close enough.”

The two continue to converse until Rodan and Behemoth begin to show signs of stirring. Behemoth is the first to fully wake up and stretch while Rodan grumbled something inaudible and rolled into his side.

Godzilla turns when he hears Mothra and finds her trying to stifle her laughter by pressing her face into her larger scythe-like limbs.

Turning his attention back to their first arrivals, Godzilla finds Behemoth using his tusks to gently nudge the sleeping Kaiju. The sight was hilarious that Godzilla was laughing himself stupid mentally. He was a distinguished King and needed to act as such.

Mothra, on the other hand, was laughing into the nest bedding, though quietly. He would have chided her, but that could lead to an argument, and he does not need to be put in a sour mood. He has a feeling that the other Kaijus will be arriving sometime today.

He’s still betting that Kong and his group would arrive first.

“Do we need to wake him up?” Mothra asks after her laughter has subsided.

“I’m sure he’ll get up once he’s annoyed enough with Behemoth’s gesture,” Godzilla hums while laying his head against the surface of the egg.

He watches the scene, and it wasn’t long before Rodan flaps his wings to dispel Behemoth from him so he could get up. The mammoth-sloth Kaiju moved so the other had enough room to roll onto his underside and shimmy himself into a sitting position.

“Well, both are up now,” Mothra hums, lifting herself up and giving a quick shake for her stiff limbs.

“Heading over?” Godzilla asks as he watches Mothra take a step over the wall of the nest.

“Yeah,” She replies, “Might take a short flight to stretch my wings. I’m a bit stiff, and I have been lying down more than usual."

Godzilla lets out another hum and nods. Maybe Mothra could convince Rodan to take a flight and expel some energy before many of the others start to arrive. With chatty beings like Rodan, tired from a fly, he should be more manageable.

“I could try to get him to take a short flight, but I can’t promise anything. I think he’s still worried about his participation in the fight with Ghidorah and believes I’m still mad at him.” Mothra says through their private link, “I suppose I should speak to him about this.”

Godzilla snorted as he nodded. He’s never surprised that Mothra knew what he was thinking. They had developed a special bond long ago, which had given them the ability to have a private link and to feel what the other was thinking at any time.

“I suppose so,” Godzilla replied, "Whether or not he wants to talk is the question.”

“I may have to persuade him a little,” Mothra says as she steps over the nest walls and makes her way over to the two males.

With it just being him and the egg, Godzilla maneuvers the egg so it’s in front of him, and this allows him to look at the bottom to see what was going on with the cracks that he saw when Rodan visited the nest the second time.

Squinting his eyes, Godzilla scans the bottom of the egg and notices that the cracks have spread farther up the egg in that spider web-like pattern. But these cracks were still small enough that one had to be searching for them to see them. Humming in a pleased tone, Godzilla moves his face and maneuvers the egg so it’s now resting against his side.

Curling his tail around the delicate object, Godzilla gives a long yawn and wiggles into the bedding until comfortable. It’ll be a while before any of the others arrive, and a short nap would help pass the time. He had woken up before everyone else and early in the morning.

His eyelids were slowly closing when he heard the sound of wings flapping. Opening them fully, Godzilla found Mothra circling in the sky with Rodan a few paces behind her. From what he could tell, the two had begun to play a game of chase. A light-hearted game to drain some energy and to give their wings a good stretch.

There’s a long yawn, and sleep is calling his name. Hopefully, he won't get jumpscared once he awakens, as he’s getting rather tired of said phenomenon. There’s another yawn, and as his eyes close, Godzilla falls into a light sleep.

Only to slightly wake up when he feels something against his nose.

It’s there one moment and gone the next. Letting out a grunt, Godzilla opens his eyes and finds nothing. He knew he had felt something against his nose, so he lifted his head and turned to the side.

Next to him is Mothra, who turns to him and tilts her head.

“What?” She asks, innocently.

“Don’t play coy,” Godzilla huffs. With years of experience, his gut tells him that Mothra is being a bit too innocent, “What were you doing?”

“What do you mean?” Mothra tilts her head to the other side, “I haven’t done anything.”

“Really now?” Godzilla asks, not believing her. She’s giving off the feeling of mischievousness, “What are you playing at?”

Mothra tilted her head again, and it reminded Godzilla of an owl. He’s seen owls tilt their heads when they find something that has them curious. Godzilla has seen Mothra do the same over the years that they have known each other.

She also does this when she’s being mischievous.

“Mothra, you're not fooling me. I know you’re up to something,” Godzilla eyed her, “What are you playing at?”

“Nothing,” She chirped.

Godzilla was about to say something when the sensation of a new presence washed over his senses. Lifting his head so it’s above the Colosseum wall, Godzilla comes face-to-face with the legs of a certain MUTO.

At his level, Godzilla can see that Barb’s smallest arms were near his head. The appendages were close enough that if Barb were to stretch them out, she could…

One of her small arms stretched out and booped him on the nose.

“...” His eyes travel up to Barb’s face, and he finds her trying to keep her face straight, “Girl… seriously?”

He can hear Mothra wheezing at his side and the distant laughter of Rodan. Godzilla kept his gaze on Barb, who was failing at keeping herself from laughing.

“It was Mothra’s idea,” The MUTO says.

“Barb, you said you wouldn’t snitch!” Mothra cried out.

Godzilla rolled his eyes, not surprised at the antics of the females. Mothra has done numerous pranks like this in the past, which is the reason why he’s not angry. He’s annoyed at best.

“How long have you been here?” Godzilla asks the MUTO.

“Not long,” Barb hums, moving to the front of the nest. This would allow Godzilla to see her without putting a crick in his neck, “About an hour and a half, I think.”

Now that he can see the MUTO without stiffening his neck, Godzilla lets out a huff and realizes that he lost the bet with Mothra. Though he had not taken the bet all that seriously.

“Has anyone else arrived?” The Gojirain asks.

“Not that I can see,” Barb answers, “How many are supposed to show up?”

Godzilla hummed for a moment before answering, “Not sure. Whoever wanted to come, I suppose.”

Barb nods before she turns her attention to Mothra, and the two begin to catch up. Godzilla was about to tune the ladies out when he sensed more presences coming to the surface.

And they were close.

Godzilla lifted himself up enough to see if he could find where the newcomers had been spat out. He expected Kong and them to take a while longer to arrive, but Shimo must have found a vortex that was close to the nest.

He hoped that they had not made a new vortex during their travels. Vortexes near heavily populated human settlements were a nightmare. Godzilla remembers at least two villages falling into newly created vortexes and knowing that those humans had not survived the journey to Hollow Earth. If that were to happen here, many humans would lose their homes and their lives. He isn’t sure how many humans had been evacuated, but he hopes it’s enough to lessen any potential casualties.

Looking out, Godzilla finds Kong and his group several yards from the nest. He watches as the three get themselves up and shake off the sand that clung to them after exiting the vortex.

Suko is the first to see Godzilla and pulls at Kong’s arm while pointing. Kong looks to where the younger Ape is pointing and nods when he spots the Gojirain's head poking out from the Colosseum’s wall.

“Kong and them are here,” Godzilla calls out.

“They are?” Mothra asks. She climbs up Godzilla to see and waves her largest limbs while she gives a cheerful call, “Kong! Shimo! Suko!”

Once the group has gotten to the nest, Godzilla nods in greeting, “I had expected you three to arrive a bit later.”

“We would have. I had been searching for a vortex that was close, but not too close. I thought I’d have to take a day, since most vortexes were far too close to the nest.” Shimo explains, “Suko found a vortex and it appeared far enough from the nest that we wouldn’t crash into it once we’ve exited. Sensing for a safe place to land isn’t always easy.”

Godzilla understood what Shimo meant. With existing vortexes, anyone could sense the other side of a vortex opening. If the other side was not safe enough to exit, they would search. Mothra was able to do this, and through the bond he has with her, he was able to do this as well.

Vortexes that did not have an existing exit were guessing games. Either you get a place that is not populated with humans, or you get one that is. Most of these types of vortexes exist only in the Hollow Earth.

“Shimo!” Mothra chirps, “There’s someone I want you to meet!”

The Ice Kaiju turns her head to Mothra and hums, “Oh?”

Mothra takes the other female and guides her to Barb. Godzilla looks at the three before turning his attention to the two Apes, “Make yourselves comfortable. I do believe others will be arriving throughout the week.”

“So,” Suko says, “What’s this egg I keep hearing about?”

“Here,” Godzilla replied as he slipped his tail over the wall. He motioned for Suko to climb up, and he did. Lifting the young boy up, Godzilla brings him into the nest and sets him near the golden egg, “This is the egg that everyone’s been talking about.”

Godzilla watched as the awestruck youngling stared at the egg before him. He looked at Godzilla to the egg and back again. The Gojirain nodded, knowing what the little one was asking. With permission granted, Suko reached out a hand and placed it against the egg’s shell.

“It looks scaly, but why is it smooth?”

“Not sure,” Godzilla hums, “Sometimes nature is strange like that.”

Suko rubbed the egg for a few minutes before Shimo called the young ape. Suko had gotten up and made his way over to the Ice Kaiju.

“That was kind of you,” Kong says as he watches Suko climb onto the female and appears to be introduced to the large multi-legged individual. This female was blackish-grey and reminded the older Ape of a crab. Though this one was a strange crab.

“He’s young,” Godzilla says, “I don’t feel as… protective as I do with an adult. I haven’t let anyone else near it.”

He spoke to Kong about what was going on with his tribe in Hollow Earth. According to Kong, the tribe was thriving after leaving the lava jail that had once been the tribe's home. This pleased Godzilla, knowing that Kong’s tribe was healing from the tyranny they faced under Skar King.

Godzilla and Kong watched as Suko was holding Barb's smaller arms, swinging side to side. It appears the young Ape had found himself another Kaiju to use as a playground, and it seems that Barb didn’t mind.

It wasn't long until the sun started to set, and everyone settled somewhere to sleep. It seems that Rodan and Behemoth’s area had been chosen for designated sleeping. Mothra had crawled into the nest and settled herself next to him.

“Suko said you let him touch the egg,” Mothra whispered, yawning, “I thought you’d wait a day or so.”

“He’s young and wasn’t setting off instincts like the adults do,” Godzilla whispered back, “I believe I’ll be settled enough to try and allow the others a chance.”

“I see,” Mothra nodded as she fell asleep right away, clearly tired from the eventful day.

Godzilla yawns again, closes his eyes, and lets himself fall into sleep.

What none of the sleeping beings saw was movement from the egg. Like something from the inside had pushed against the surface along with a glow that pulsed then dimmed into nothing.
