Journal #37 - Felcaryn Silveredge

Summary:

He keeps a diary, of sorts. Has for the last twenty-some years, apparently.

Notes:

Before I slipped this out of Fel's belt pouch - a sneaky peek while he was soaking in the bath - I don't think I'd really understood how many languages he uses on a regular basis, and I can only normally read one of them.

I also hadn't realised how tiny his handwriting is.

Even with magic, I can't translate it all - much like his tattoos, some of this seems to be a cipher. I've transcribed it ... well, mostly faithfully. I left the obscenities - of which there are a few - in their original language. I've also tried to retain some of the indications of which language he used via changes in the script.

And there are a few of my own notes and comments, here and there, that I've underlined.

Chapter Text

Monnan, 22nd Solmanath

K'ny-ihth ee'ah, ee't-nash ee's ah. Reh'TH k'ab nyih'th-m'uhs nyih'nyihs reh'th.

That fellow is eyeing me strangely when I try to sing along.

'Ssang, I hate realising I'm singing in that one.

I think I've worn out my welcome here, no matter how many drinks I've bought.

Tiwes, 23rd Solmanath

Quiet ride today.

Dee'ah-r't rev-ehn vee'ah tuh'b, m'eh'TH t'n-waak oo'y sehl'nah, l'ehw.

Wodnes, 24th Solmanath

Someone at the bar was saying something about clawed, mad things to the south. Surely it can't be in the city, though, so must be to the south of Estertide. I'll make my way around the city, no point in going through the middle.

Dunres, 25th Solmanath

Staying at the inn just south of Estertide, following up that rumour - with no luck. Maybe further to the west?

'Ssangeh. Just had to put Ambrosius out in the stables - gods only know what the innkeeper fed him, but those farts are lethal.

Ret'ah-ee'ah-w'k sl'eh n'ah-weer'veh s'peek een'ah-p'muhk ah'TH nyih'vah - wuh'TH, ta'TH ny'ih-oo'd tee-eh'h.

Frige, 26th Solmanath

At least there's some coin to be had helping the landowners bring in their cattle, precious little other use to be out here. I must be on the wrong track.

Ternes, 27th Solmanath

This was a wasted trip. There really isn't anything out here.

M'a ee'ah reh'w roh'y t'uhb, sroh'k vuh, t'awl oo'y roh'f t'peh-skih, leh'w.

Sonnan, 28th Solmanath

Nice family out here, neighbours of the folks with the cattle. Helped them out with some nasty rats in the basement. The missus can make a proper game pie, that's for certain. Didn't taste of frog at all.

I'll head back to the inn in the morning.

Monnan, 29th Solmanath

Essangehka that serajeh.

Which one? Both of them. The thetaleh one and the godsbotherer.

I wouldn't be stuck in this room if it wasn't for that pious pompous prig who obviously has another flail stuck up his thayu sticking his nose where it doesn't belong. And that... that HAVISH fellow... He knows we didn't do this. I KNOW he knows. In fact, I'm pretty sure he knows I know that he knows.

What kind of protector essangecodah chases the guy he says he's going to protect down with a 'ssangeh flail in his hands in full armour?

Little mouse my thayu.

Tiwes, 30th Solmanath

All my hopes of sneaking away when we got deep enough into the woods... the ess'cokedi put us on leashes and sent his man to walk us. The man, I could get away from if I needed to. Both of them if it comes to it. But I can't get this bracelet off.

At least the Paladin - he claims that's actually his NAME - Bisseketh - is decent enough in a fight. If he wasn't, I think I'd have ducked out of this, bracelet or not.

That pond was something, though. Maybe someday. Though it might not keep them quiet, being a different shape. I think they'd still find me no matter what I looked like, and I wouldn't even be able to argue back.

At least Aestre seems to have kept her mind. Shame about the courier.

I hope the one that escaped doesn't have any friends out there.

Wodnes, 31st Solmanath

T'ih ee'eh-s m'eh'TH vuh nuh'w d'ih-d r'oh, m'ee'eh'l-f ah'TH, l'ee'oh ah'TH t-waa-b'ah t'oh'th t'a'TH ee'm t'ih zaw'w ee'm re'v-wuh m'ee'eh'k tuh'w t'ee'ah-w'k wuh'n t'naw'd ee'ah. Nuh'w fuh'r ah zaw'w t'a'TH?

Ah'leh'f d'l-wuh see'ah'n t'a'TH d'l'ih-k vah d'oh-w ee'ah dah ee'ah f'ih.

But the hall is safe. Northcopse is safe.

Dunres, 32nd Solmanath

I can't believe I forgot to ask that thetaleh serajeh to take this leash off me. I can't believe the PALADIN forgot to ask the thetaleh serajeh to take the leash off him.

I need a drink. I need twelve drinks.

'Ssang. We need money.

Frige, 33rd Solmanath

I don't know why I haven't done this before. A place to keep the coin that it can't be stolen and a handy message board full of the sort of information I've been riding from town to town to collect AND a guarantee of pay at the end of it?

The Paladin is a fool. Greener than my trousers. Anyone who's planning to sell stuff like this needs to know how not to completely trash it first. If I'd known he was this desperate for money, I'd have been more careful with my blades. Not that it matters, not like his lack of money is why he's staying with me. He's not going to leave me alone anyway.

Can you believe he tried to bring it into the inn with him? And he wasn't even drunk!

... Z'l'oh-w ah'TH naw z-d'er-w ah'TH ny'ih-ee's paw't-s t'nak ee'ah. Ee'b t'n'ah't'l-wuh'sh ee'ah n'ee'm t'n'ah-s-wuh'd t'a'TH.

Ternes, 34th Solmanath

Havish is back to yank our chains.

Behave, like good dogs, and maybe we get our collars off.
Bite someone, and I've no doubt he'd put us down.

The Paladin ... well, I was right. That thing, that sh'ihd'aw-ls thing, it was pretty beat up. Surprised we got as much from that creepy butcher as we did. Fella makes my skin crawl, and though I'm no child when it comes to gutting a kill, did he have to enjoy it so?

Makes me feel sick all over again to think about it.

T'ih oh-s t-s'erf ee'ah neh'w reh'th n'er-t ee'nuh'f ah vuh t'ih-b ah ee'm v'ee'eh'g. D'l'ee'sh z'ih-h naw l'ah-b-m'ih-s ah'TH d'n'ah, t'a'TH, leh'w.

Might as well give myself something to throw up later.

Sunnan, 35th Solmonath

She was fast. Too fast to keep up with.

Wuh'keh ee-eh'TH. T'neh'm ee'l'ih-r z-d'er-w ah'TH tuh'w d'oht-sre'd'n'ah ee'ah sh'ih-w ee'ah.

Notes:

Much of his diary appears to have been written in the language of his people - at least the Florean alphabet has a common root with trade-tongue. And he certainly seems to enjoy swearing in Draconic.

I would have expected the... it's probably the speech of the aberrations ... to have been translatable. Maybe I'm just missing something.
