It was the 5 year anniversary of the day Rat left, and on that day Shion always walks to the spot where they said goodbye. He doesn't tell anyone he does it but Dogkeeper and old man Rikiga suspects he does. It’s just that Shion misses Rat and he goes there in hopes one day Rat will show up. He doesn’t tell anyone because he thinks it’s idiotic and stupid and everyone already thinks he’s an airhead, so he keeps quiet about it. He sits down and leans against one of the shrubs, and closes his eyes. There’s been a lot of stress on him lately since there’s so much to be rebuilt and redone. Shion and the Reconstruction Council have been working really hard to get everything on track. Even though it’s been five years there is still so much work to be done. Shion ends up falling asleep against the shrub, all the exhaustion catching up to him.
An hour or so later Shion groans and sits up but his head knocks into something. “Ow!” Shion opens his eyes to see what he hit his head on. Shion's eyes widen in shock as he stares at Rat. Surprise is written all over Shions face as well as disbelief. “Rat is that really you?” Rat smirks and flicks Shions forehead and says “Who else would it be, you Airhead.” Shion doesn’t even care that Rat flicked him instead he threw his arms around him. Rat chuckles and wraps his arms around Shion. After a couple moments Rat says “Hold me any tighter and you’ll choke me out.” Shion immediately leans back “oh I’m sorry I just can’t believe you're here it’s been five years” Rat notices that Shion is crying “You were always such a crybaby and I promised you I’d be back didn’t I?” Shion nods and quickly wipes his tears away with the back of his hand. “Rat so much has changed No.6 is so much better now! West block and No.6 have peace and there isn’t a wall anymore. I’m also part of this thing called the Reconstruction Council and I help people…” Shion keeps going on about how things have changed and how Dogkeeper, mini Shion, and Rikiga are and Rat just smiles at Shion and listens, but Shion then stops mid sentence and says “You're here to stay this time right?” Rat laughs “I wouldn’t have come back if I wasn’t here to stay” Rat then leans in and kisses Shion “I promise” he murmurs against Shions lips.
Shion decided to take Rat to see Dogkeeper since Dogkeeper has been sending letters telling Shion to visit recently. Shion and Rat walk through West Block together “It's not too different but there are some changes like there are no more dead bodies in the street and the city's Reconstruction Council provides everyone with food and money!” Shion goes on to tell Rat how things have changed in West Block. Rat just listens to Shion nodding along. That's when some of the people on the street started to shout “It's Eve!” “Everyone look Eve's back!” People start to crowd around Rat pushing Shion to the back of the crowd. Rat smiles at the people like a celebrity would at their fans “Yes i'm back I went on a small vacation, but I missed you all so much that I just had to return” The crowd is dazzled by Rat, and some people start to go forward wanting touch him and see if he was really back. As more people surround Rat he easily ducks down and slips through the crowd, and on the way out he grabs Shions hand and quickly darts down an alley. “Just like old times” He says smirking as he leans against the alley wall still holding Shions hand.
They walk the rest of the way to Dogkeepers hotel holding hands the whole time. When they arrive Shion calls out for Dogkeeper. When they hear Shion, Dogkeeper comes out of the crumbling hotel looking extremely surprised to see Shion, which Rat found odd. Dogkeeper then sees Rat and runs over and bangs on his chest “you damn bastard! Where the hell have you been?! You didn’t even say goodbye when you left!” They say angry and panting while Rat just smirks and says “missed me that much huh” Dogkeeper takes a step back “I didn’t miss you even a little!” They turn towards Shion “Hey Shion it’s been a while” Shion smiles “What do you mean it hasn’t been that long.” Dogkeeper looks at Shion a bit oddly, but then says “Hey can you go feed little Shion for me right now is usually his dinner time.” Shion nods and walks away and into the hotel. “Hey Dogkeeper are you still in the business of selling information” Dogkeeper laughs “of course I am I still need to eat! What do you need to know Rat?” Rat turns to face Dogkeeper “Is there something wrong with Shion? He seems a bit different from when I left.” Dogkeeper is silent for a moment. “Ever since you left he’s been aloof and distant. That's why I was surprised to see him today. It’s not just you disappearing that changed him, it was losing Safu and I think the time in The Correctional Facility changed him more than we all thought.” Rat is silent and lost in thought. He thought those moments in The Correctional Facility were just flukes. He didn’t think it would affect Shion so much… His train of thoughts is interrupted when Shion reappears “what’s wrong why do you guys look so serious.” There’s an easy smile on his face, but Rat notices a suspicious gleam in his eyes that the old Shion would not have had. “Nothing we were just catching up” Rat says easily while placing his hand on Shions shoulder “Hey how about we head home?” Shion nods and the two say their goodbyes to Dogkeeper. “So I have actually been staying in the bunker. I moved out of my moms house and live there.. I’m sorry if that’s annoying to you since it was your house before you left.” Rat looks at Shion “You dumbass, why would that be annoying if we already lived together 5 years ago.” Rat laughs and says “You really are an Airhead, you know that.” That was the end of the discussion because we had arrived home, and since Rat was tired from traveling all day the two decided to go to bed. Rat wraps his arms around Shion and Shion snuggles into him and they fall asleep like that on the small twin bed.
