Chapter 1: Some much needed catching up

Chapter Text

“Girl, get the fuck up,” Luna’s voice yells from outside the door. She glances at the clock.

“Honey, the others are arriving in like 2 hours.” Honey bolts up.

“‘Kay, I’m coming in.” Luna barges into Honey’s room (nothing she hasn’t done before), and stares at Honey’s state of disrepair. Honey, finally coming to, flips her off. Luna rolls her eyes. They’ve done this dance before.

“I’m taking a shower,” Honey states, pushing herself out of her Twin XL bed, and onto the fluffy rug of her floor. Luna, mindlessly scrolling on her phone, relents.

“Don’t take forever. I want coffee before we have to deal with them.” She leaves quietly, as she always does. Honey knocks on the door of her Jack-and-Jill bathroom, hoping Rena isn't in there. Hearing silence in response, she enters, and finds the lights off. She doesn’t flick them on, but instead turns the water on, and waits for the water to heat. The warm water relieves some of the built up tension in her shoulders, giving her muscles a welcome message. Pouring her shampoo into the palm of her hands, she plans out her outfit, her hair, and her day. The white Brandy top, jean shorts (maybe with the charms?), and her Hokas. Small braids on the sides of her head. Meet Luna for Coffee, head over to the entrance to meet Twister and her class, meet the others, see Nora for the first time in a while, have a huge dinner, go back to the lounge and debrief, ugh she’s exhausted already. Her hand brushes over the cool metal of the shower, moving it to its off position. Grabbing a towel, her phone and her headphones, she puts them in, and gets ready for her (ugh) long day. Luna’s knock comes while she’s finishing putting on her socks.

“Come in,” she says, Luna already halfway through the door.

“Oh good, you got up.” Honey rolls her eyes, and slips on her shoes.

“Shall we?” Honey says, grabbing her backpack. Luna nods, and the two head out together.

They were dead giveaways. Any time an ASHS student leaves campus, they have to wear their lanyard, so that law enforcement can recognize them if they try to help a civilian in case of emergency. However, that led to some awkward looks and whispers from most passing civilians. New York City. The city that never sleeps. Which is completely true, by the way. Despite it only being seven, the city was as active as ever. People coming and going. Luna and Honey were just the same. Yet, we were wearing one of the most prestigious lanyards in the entire country. The small bell on top of the door chimed as Honey pushed the door open. The shop was empty, save for the one college student who wouldn’t have noticed a polar bear if it had walked right in front of her. Luna and Honey throw their backpacks down onto their normal seats, before walking over to the counter. The old woman who owns the shop had gotten to know Luna and Honey quite well the more they frequented.

“Good morning Mrs. Brown!” Luna smiles at her, her ponytail flipping behind her as she makes her way to the counter. Luna wasn’t an unattractive girl by any means. With the level of fame, and popularity she had, thousands of people thought she was cute. From her big black-ish eyes, to her purple hair, she looked like she just stepped out of a comic book. Ironic, Honey thought, considering their line of work. Today, Luna had put her hair into a loose ponytail, hanging from the top of her head. Paired with some athletic shorts and a tank top, as well as her signature sunglasses, she looked like herself.

“Good morning girls,” She smiles back, “how are you girls today?”

“Sleepy,” “Excited!” They both answer at once. Mrs. Brown just smiles bigger.

“Your usual?” She asks the girls, as they both nod their heads. Luna swipes her credit card across the screen, before waving goodbye to Mrs. Brown, and heading over to the small counter where their drinks will be.

“Is Ethan working today?” Honey asks, Luna giving her a shrug.

“I don’t know. He doesn’t tell me anything.”

Magically, a boy about Luna’s age walks towards the counter from the back, carrying two drinks.

“I’ve got one for a Honey, and one for a uh, Lana? Laura?” He jokes, placing the coffees down in front of the two of them. However, before he can put Luna’s down, she grabs his hand, yanking him towards her.

“You’re not funny.” She says, bringing her face up to his.

“Eh, I think I’m a little funny.” He brings his lips to hers. “What are you guys doing here this early on a Sunday?” He pulls away from her, much to Luna’s dismay.

“The hero class from Japan is arriving today.” Honey answers, sipping her coffee.
“Oh,” Ethan muses. “So you guys are already back in school?”

“Yeah. Well not officially, because we aren’t taking classes or anything, but this is a required summer break activity. It’s like an inter-class competition. “ Luna responds, leaning against her boyfriend.

“How many of them are there? Like is this like a 50 on 20 situation or..?

“Well, there are 40 of them, but 20 are going to spar with the LA kids.” Honey answers, making her way over to the table. Luna and Ethan follow.

“Right. I forget the LA kids exist.”

“Everyone does. It’s not your fault,” Luna quips.

“Wait, are these the kids? Like the ones who were involved with the whole war thing? You know what I’m talking about. The one that got Star killed.” Ethan says.

“Yeah,” Luna responds, “They didn’t do jack during the actual war though.”

“From what Twister told us, they weren’t super involved in the war; they were mostly just doing R&R stuff.” Honey adds.

“Except for like three of them. The news said that like three of them were super involved in the war. One of them messed up their arm or some shit.” Luna responds.

“Oh damn. Maybe you guys will have some actual competition.” Ethan laughs.

“Hey, let's not jump to conclusions now.” Luna jokes.

“But anyway, we have to meet with them later today. Their flight’s supposed to land at around eleven. They’re flying straight to ASHSIA.” Honey summarizes.

“Don’t leave me for some hot Japanese guy.” Ethan punches Luna in the arm.

“Aw, there go my weekend plans.”

“Hey!”

“Alright Luna, we gotta jet. Twister said to meet at 8:30 for breakie and powerpoint.”

“He loves his power points.”

“Alright! See ya guys!” Ethan waves to the two as the head back through the door, the chime ringing once again.

They weren’t the last one’s there. Okay, maybe they were. Luna slides into her seat at breakfast, placing her lukewarm coffee down next to her bowl of cereal. She waves to Rena, who looked more put together than she did. Her two toned hair was falling loose over her shoulders, its curls bouncing up and down with every animated motion she made. Rena was the other member of the ASHS Big Three, along with herself and Honey. She was the most bubbly out of all three of them. Not that they minded, of course.

“Luna! I haven’t seen you all day!” She chimes.

“Probably because it’s 8:30.”

“Fair.” She sighs, before turning back to Lily and continuing her dramatic storytelling there.

Beside her, Carlos places his glass and plate down, before pulling out his chair.

“Morning,” He says, greeting Luna.

“Morning,” She responds. The table was alive, with people conversing happily with their tablemates. They had known each other for five years, so no one was a stranger. The conversations layered over each other, ranging from excitement over the events to come, from complaints about the school year firing up. It wasn’t long until Twister entered, carrying a file folder. He puts his papers down, grabs a plate of food, before firing up his powerpoint. This was his favorite way to teach; learning and lunch, he called it. Except this was a schedule and breakfast, so…

“Morning class!” He says, taking a sip from his cup of lukewarm coffee (He prefers it like that). The class gives him various nods and glances as he situates himself to present.

“As most of you know, UA, one of our partner schools, is sending their kids over to our campus for some… friendly competition.” Twister puts extra emphasis on that last bit, raising the eyebrows of a few students. “Now, UA is famous for their events that pitch students against each other. Their 10th grade students compete in something called a sports festival, which is basically when they all spar against each other in the form of a monetized event. Back to what I was saying. There are twenty students in the visiting class. Which is Class 3-A if you want the specifics. Might want to drop those instagram mutuals. Or add those instas. Depending on the type of person you are.” The table gives a half hearted laugh. Their teacher may not know much about current trends, but he tried. “Moving on, they’ll be staying in what normally are the fourth year dorms, so I have to lay some ground rules. No having visiting students in your rooms. The lounges exist for a reason. If you are leaving campus with a visiting student, you have to get permission from their homeroom teacher first. Check in stays the same: 10:30. Visiting students have to check in with their homeroom teacher, you guys have to check in with me. Bridges close at 10:30, so no waltzing in afterwards. Unless you want to swim. If so, be my guest. Serena, that isn’t a challenge.” The girl shoots her hands up beside her head, as if to say, ‘I didn’t say anything!’ “Finally, be nice. Even though you guys will be competing in multi-day events, please keep the competition talk to a minimum in the dorms. I really don’t want to deal with serious discipline issues before the school year even starts. Okay, did I miss anything?” The table gives him a shrug. “You’ll receive more information about how the actual competition is going to be set up once they get here. It’ll start in the afternoon tomorrow, after a bit of an icebreaker. Well– I guess you can call it an icebreaker.” He gives it a second of thought, before continuing. “No matter. As for the rest of today, your google calendar should tell you guys where you need to be and when, but I’m going to put it up on the screen and explain it a bit.” He gestures to the rolled down projector screen. “So, you guys are free to have breakfast and do whatever until about 10:45, when we’ll all gather in the lobby of the academic building so that I can give you all nametags, etc. Then, when their flight lands at 11, we’ll greet them, then go to the main lounge of the dorms so that each visiting student can check in, get their room assignment. You guys don’t have to hang out with them, but I’d be nice if you could make them feel welcome. So then you guys are free until noon, when we’re all going to have lunch in Howard Dining Hall – Also, side note, help them find things, please. They have no idea where they’re going. After lunch, you guys are free to do whatever, until 8:00 pm. That’s where we will gather all of you to address how the activity works, what you all will be doing, and how to go about meeting people. That’s 8:00 pm on the DOT. Looking at you Carlos. Training rooms are open until 10 pm. Feel free to train with new students, old students by yourself. I think dinner is open from 6 to 8, so grab dinner with friends, new people, your old imaginary friend from when you were five, I really don’t care. I think that’s it for now. You’ll be getting emails from me periodically throughout this competition, so just make sure to check those. They’ll be kinda important. Okay, I kinda just threw information at you, you guys all got that?”

“Twist, I had a question,” Hannah asks.

“Shoot.”

“What if the visiting student is your family? Like by blood?” She says, hoping his answer will change. She won't, she knows this. But just maybe.

“No.”

“Fuck.”

“Any questions of actual intelligence?” He looks around. “No? Great. 10:45, on the dot. Don’t be late.

“I just know Aizawa’s on his last fucking straw.” Ochako comments, sneaking glances at their teacher, who looks nothing if not miserable.

“Oh, I’d be too if I had to be stuck with 20-something kids on a plane for 14 hours.” Deku replies, he says, shifting his headphones back over his ear. They had almost twenty minutes until landing, and Aizawa said he would be making an announcement twenty minutes beforehand, but who knows. Then, of course, the moment Deku starts his music–

“Okay, listen up Class.” Fuck. He slides his headphones off, shoving them back into his backpack. “We’re going to be landing in a few minutes, so I’m going to go over a few ground rules. First of all, First off, before we land, everyone’s putting on a nametag.” Mina opens her mouth. “I don’t care if it doesn’t go with your outfit, you’re wearing it.” She closes it. “Next, you’ll meet some of the American Students. They, along with their homeroom teacher, will lead us over to the dorm building. Both classes are going to be staying in the same dorm, so I have to give you guys some rules about that. 1. No having other students in your dorm. 2. You are not permitted to leave campus. 3. Check in with me every night, first floor of the building, 22:30. No ifs ands or buts. 22:30. After you get to the dorm, check in with the front desk. They’ll give you your room and your key. Lunch is at 12:00 with all of the students. I will be taking attendance. Then, you have free time. Get some sleep. Meet new people. Dinner is from 18:00-20:00, so make sure you get that. Then at 20:00, there is a big overview of what the next two weeks will look like. Check in with me. Do not be late. I don’t care if you were sleeping. Do not be late. Got that? Great. Put your seatbelts on. We’re landing soon.”

Midoriya sits back down in his seat, sighing and opening the window beside him. Nothing in sight yet.

“I’m actually so excited, it’s unreal.” Ochako comments from next to him.

“Yeah, you’ve never been to the states before, right?” She shakes her head.

“Nope. Little me always dreamed of visiting New York. I used to tell my mom I would float over here. She did not find it amusing.” He turned to face her, her hair up in a small bun. It had grown over the years, taking on a longer length, which she often put up into a ponytail, or bun.

“I’ve only been that one time with All Might. And that was California, which isn’t even close to New York.”

“To first times for everything!” She holds out her fist. He bumps his against hers. He lets the silence fall over them again, before he asks.

“Do you know anything about American Heros? Like the top ranking ones, and things?” He blurts out. She thinks for a second.

“Not really. I mean, I knew the one hero who fought Sh–”

“Okay, well, basically there’s this Hero right?

“Right.”

“And her hero name is La Luna, and her quirk is basically time travel.”

“That’s crazy, like actual time travel?”

“Well that’s the thing, no one really knows. A full quirk analysis of her isn’t available anywhere.”

“Ohhh, I see.”

“So basically, we only think that it’s time travel, right?”

“Okay.”

“And the even crazier thing is that when La Luna first debuted, she looked young. People have said like 13-15 years old.”

“Wait, what?”

“That’s what I said! But, I mean if her quirk is time travel, then how do we know how old she actually is?”

“We don’t?”

“We can’t. Unless you meet her and ask. But the even crazier thing is that she’s aged over the years! People have noticed her face shape changing and things.”

“This is too confusing for me right now. I need to go to bed before you finish explaining this to me. My mind’s all twisted now.” Ochaco says, putting her face in her hands.

“Wait, one last thing. She goes to ASHS.”

“WHAT?” She yells, louder than she meant too.

“That’s what I thought!”

“So we’re battling against a girl who can manipulate fucking time?”

“I mean, we don’t know for sure, but–”

“Oh my god.”

“Okay, but I have seven quirks, so…” Ochaco stares at him for a second, before bursting out into laughter. “I’m just saying!” He laughs.

“Well, potential time traveler aside, I really am excited. I haven’t met new heroes since, like, first year.”

“That’s quite literally not true.”

“Shut up.” He throws his hands up in defense.

“I’m excited too, I promise.” He puts his hand on her shoulder. “I mean, 20 new quirks. It’s like they designed this with me in mind.”

The overhead com interrupted their conversation: “Ladies and Gentlemen if you all would buckle those seatbelts, stow your tray tables and take a look out your window, you’ll find that we are flying directly over the Island of Manhattan, which is home to our famous New York City. I hope you kids enjoy your time here, and welcome to the Big Apple!”

Izuku turns his music back on as the plane lands. Landing is smooth, and all of a sudden, he’s looking out at the Hudson River, with ASHS just on the other side of him.

“Alright, line up so I can give you guys your name tags.” Aizawa says, and he and the rest of class 3-A line up to receive their name tags, before heading down the steps and towards the main academic building. Hello New York.
