A Life Still Missing

Summary:

The Dark Urge is married, has a long and happy life ahead of her, but still has some questions about what small moments in her life she's missing

Work Text:

Their room was quiet at night, the light of the moon shining over Baldur’s Gate and illuminating the drow by her window, Her head resting on the window frame, nightgown loose around her, the memories of her past still a shroud of mystery. A puzzle meant to be unraveled even as she heard soft steps behind her and familiar arms around her shoulders.

“It’s late, my love, did Lily wake you?” Wyll asked, a tender kiss to the back of her white hair.

“I haven’t slept to tell the truth,” Genevieve laughed nervously, sure he would worry for her knowing that. The sun was closer to rising than not, and he was already worried about how she hardly let herself rest.

“Memories?”

“Lack of them,” she answered, a sad smile to the fact, “we found out about my adopted family, the paladins who trained me, but…I don’t know much more, and there’s still a lot I’d like to know.”

“Tell me, and I’ll try to find a way to help you.”

“It’s the small things. What did I used to like doing aside from killing? What plays did I enjoy? How much of the world have I seen? I’ve still lost a life of memories, and I want to know what was in that life.”

Wyll made a noise of acceptance, taking a seat beside her, his devil’s eye glowing in the dark as he asked, “would you like to go to the theater tomorrow? I’m sure Lily would enjoy it, and perhaps we can see about getting you some memories back there.”

“Now that does sound nice,” Genevieve laughed, a tinge coming to lilac cheeks as she admitted, “I do wonder though what else I liked before. I…may I ask something without judgment on your part?”

“Always, my love.”

“Well, this has been eating at me for some time, but I do wonder…well, you see, Gortash you know? We seemed to know each other, and a part of me wonders-”

“My love, I’ve had that thought many times,” Wyll said, despite it all his smile not breaking, seeming to get some humor behind it, “let me tell you, I asked Gale and Karlach what they thought about it one night, and we all seemed to have the same answer.”

“So you do think we fancied one another?”

He laughed at that, one hand covering his mouth as he corrected, “you surely did more than that. The man nearly rested his hand somewhere I would have complained about more times than I could count, and you had a reaction to you. When you heard his voice you smiled like you do when you hear mine, when we hear Lily. Besides that, the man was normally not disheveled as we saw him, and always seemed a little better each time we saw him again. I did worry a bit for a time.”

“You thought I’d return to that man? Did my morals seem so questionable?” the drow asked, barely able to hold back her laugh at the absurdity.

“No, but that doesn’t stop the heart from believing in worry,” Wyll answered, his hand seeking hers and giving it a light squeeze, letting her feel the ridges Mizora had granted the flesh, “besides, the worry only lasted a day at best. Gale told me something rather nice that helped.”

“And what was that?”

“You smiled without thinking when you heard his voice, but you only ever watched me with that smile when the moment turned quiet.”
