The Existential Dread of Folding Clothes at Three AM

Summary:

Kei sorts through his clothes for college, while chatting with a friend.

Notes:

I'm not projecting, you're projecting

Work Text:

Kei was exhausted, because it was three AM and he was sorting his clothes rather than sleeping. College had no uniform, so he would need to bring more clothes than he usually wore. But how much more, he didn’t know. It was stressing him out. He didn’t really own a lot of clothes in the first place, and most of what he did have were hand me downs from his brother. Though he dreaded even the thought, he would have to go shopping.

Incoming call from Hinata Shoyo

“Tsukki, it’s three AM,” Hinata said, one he picked up the phone.

“Don’t call me that,” said Kei, automatically. Both of them laughed. He felt some of the stress loosen in his shoulders.

“Why are you up so late? Or early…” There was a shifting on the other line, like Hinata had rolled over in bed.

Kei shrugged, and put him on speaker so he could continue his task. “I couldn't sleep, so I’m sorting through my clothes.”

“When do you leave for the dorms?” asked Hinata.

“Ten days,” said Kei, folding Akiteru’s old NASA shirt, “Well, nine now.”

Hinata hummed, sleepily. “That’s so weird to think about,” he murmured.

“Yeah, I know. It keeps me awake at night.”

“Really? I hadn’t noticed,” he laughed.

Kei smiled, feeling warm from the inside out. The March breeze shook the trees outside his window, and Kei was grateful. He took a deep breath, and folded another shirt.
