“Strike batter out!”
Kataoka Tesshin sighed for what seemed to be the thirtieth time today, nothing was going right. First Tanba threw up as they were loading the bags onto the bus for their practice match, then Yuki forgot his batting gloves which wasn’t as bad but he has only one kind he’ll use and figures, no one on the team has them, and then because those two situations weren’t enough to make him want to quit, Kawakami got scared by a bird landing on a tree in front of him and fell face first into the rocky dirt. His ankle now swollen and purple is sprained and he can’t pitch anymore.
Just great now they are an hour away from the school and twenty minutes from having to play in said practice match, and they still need to figure out the problem of having no pitcher. It would be a waste to not play seeing as he drove an hour to get to the field and by the time they would get back it would be too late to hold and actual practice.
“Um coach….” Kataoka glared at the brown haired boy shorter than himself.
He sighed again “what Jun?” Jun flinched back a bit a the harsh glare he was receiving from the coach and bravely continued on,
“ Did you want us to start bringing the bags to the dugout or….?” He continued off feeling a bit silly under the gaze on him.
“…..Yes drop them off and start warming up while me and Takashima figure this out.” Kataoka said confidently almost as if he knew how to solve this problem easily.
“Yes sir!” Was heard along with the shuffling of feet and he was left to his own thoughts. He briefly heard Jun explaining to the team what he said and for a moment he hear feet moving against the pavement before he was left in front of the bus in silence.
That silence was quickly ended when he heard Takashima ask him what his plan was. He looked at her harshly trying to speak without words. His glare was saying “if I knew what I was doing then we would have a pitcher.” Takashima sighed at the look in his eyes and said “ I’ll see if I can do anything about this, worst case scenario we can see if the other team has a pitcher we can use though I doubt it.” Takashima quickly walked away seeing as they had about fifteen minutes before this practice match starts and Kataoka walked over to the dugout to watch everyone warm up.
Kataoka watched as Miyuki walked up to him and opened his mouth, he already knew what was coming.
“ so… have you found a pitcher for us or..?”
Kataoka immediately answered with a “no.”then added a “we’re working on it right now.” Miyuki nodded and walked away to finish stretching.
Kataoka stood in front of his players and looked down at his watch five minutes until the game started. He took a deep breath and said “ it looks like we still don’t have a pitcher, we’re going to have to ask the other team if-“ suddenly in the distance Kataoka heard a-
“wait!”
Shouted from Takashima he whipped his head around with the rest of the team.
