Chapter 1: A Fountain?

Chapter Text

You head up to the schoolhouse in Toriel's car. You watch the outside town pass by like a movie as you soon pull up.

Once the both of you are inside, she gives you your usual hug and departs. You go to Ms. Alphys' and sit in your seat. Susie kicks you.

"Hey, Kris," she loudly whispers as Alphys explains the assignment for next week, "you look like ass. Stayed up thinkin' about the next dark world, huh?"

You nod. You lied.

"If I'm bein' honest, me too. So, like, how do they even work-?"

"Susie," Ms. Alphys interjected, looking at the two, "w-we are talking about the project. Are you even paying attention?"

Susie looks up, a little flustered she had been caught.

"Uh, phff, yeah? I mean, I'm just saying that me and Kris should uh..."

You say that she was suggesting slenderman for the assignment.

"Yeah! Slenderguy, or whatever... what?" she looks a little bewildered at the lie, but brushes it off.

"...Uh, w-well, I guess there aren't any rules saying you can't? I swear, each year is so wild..."

She continues talking about the project or... something. You can hear Berdly saying something about making an interactive video game presentation. It bores you to oblivion, and you close your eyes...

...you wake up after the bell rings and feel another kick from Susie. She cannot wait another moment to get there.

You both go outside of the classroom and walk to the closet.

"Hey, do you think Ralsei got something epic for us this time? Like a world of dragons and lasers or something? That'd be... so goddamn cool."

You both arrive and take a leap into the closet, gliding down to the dark world.

Surprisingly, no one was there to greet them at the entrance, but Susie shakes it off.

"Ralsei's probably up in the castle baking another bomb cake. We're, like, his favorite people. Why wouldn't he?"

You shrug as you both walk into the castle town. Lancer bounces up to Susie enthusiastically, his cheery voice familiar, "Heya, strangers! Except you aren't strangers! Ho ho ho! Girldad taught me that one!"

"...nice one, Lancer? Good to see ya again! Did you do the prank on Ralsei yet?"

"Yup! He said underwear!"

Lancer and Susie bust out laughing, except Susie's sounds more like an atomic bomb while Lancer's sounds like an evil elf.

"Where is that nerd anyway?"

"He's been in his castle all day after the weird bacon thing showed up in the sky!"

"Bacon? What do you mean-"

You both now notice the incredibly obvious dark fountain in the sky. It looks much different than the other ones.

"...beacon. Holy crap, dude, that's gotta be one hell of a world."

You and Susie head up to the castle. Lancer bounces off to who knows where as you see Ralsei pacing by the cauldron.

"...oh no oh no oh no oh no..." Ralsei mutters, his eyes wide and afraid.

"Uh, Ralsei?"

"OH NO. Oh, hey, Susie! Kris! You scared me!" he practically jumps out of his skin at the sight of you unexpectedly showing up.

"Everything alright? The hell is that fountain?" Susie questions, crossing her arms.

"That fountain? Don't worry. Don't bother going, it's more of a mistake, really. I can handle it," he waves a dismissive hand at her. She narrows her eyes.

"Why not?"

"It's not a problem. I assure you, Susie."

"That makes it sound like even MORE of a problem, actually."

He shakes his head and goes upstairs, leaving them abruptly.

Susie scoffs at him, "I think he's just being a wimp. Wanna go?"

...you nod.

Ralsei runs back downstairs as you try to leave, "Wait! Don't go! It's dangerous for Lightners to travel there."

"So? We practically die in every world we go to," she argues.

"This one is..." he tries to find the word for it, "different. It's a rip to another, real, world. Another universe. There are humans."

Queen runs downstairs with a glass and what seems to be Lancer in a Hawaiian shirt. You wonder if they even know about Hawaii.

"Oh Ho Ho Hello Lightnerds!" she basically yells.

"Hi again Susie and Blue Kris person! Oh, there's toothpaste boy! He looks like he's about to cry or throw up, dontcha think?"

"Yes I Agree To: That Statement"

Ralsei shakes his head, "I don't want you two getting hurt, Kris. Especially you."

You contemplate for a moment before shaking your head.

"I think we should go anyway. We'll be fine, Ralsei," Susie reassures him with a grip on his shoulder.

You nod and look forward. The gleaming beacon of light is alluring in a way a knife would.

You and Susie stand like a pair of bowling pins in front of the beam. This strange beam has a smell. Of sulpher. Of iron. Of... food?

"Oh, sweet. I forgot breakfast anyway," she remarks as the smell of meat, maybe beef, floats in the air.

It seems this meal may not be so savory after all.

Susie leaps, then you follow her. A flurry of red and dark blue flashes by before you land in a rich-smelling suburban area. The sky is cloudy with few rays jabbing through the mist. It's... normal?

Susie lands beside you and jumps.

"Bro... you're not blue!"

You look down. Well, she's not colorblind. Kris's usual yellow tone has returned to their skin.

You point out how Susie looks normal, too.

"Damn. Maybe this isn't a dark world? Maybe some sort of rip in a time spac- wait. Do you hear that? Smell that?"

You indeed do hear that, smell that. It appears two men are inside of the mansion-esque home you landed by.

"I got an idea," she growls mischievously.

Hannibal is on the far end of the table while Will was on the side. He took a sip of his glass as Will mumbles about Jack this, Jack that, how this is happening, how Freddie was being an ass, as he puts it.

Suddenly, someone knocks at the door. Hannibal, being polite, opens it.

"Hello there little..."

He stares at the purple one. A lizard girl. Huh. Not the weirdest things he's seen, for sure.

"...may I help you?"

The purple reptile speaks in a rather aggressive voice, "Hi. Uh. I'm Suzanne. And this is my friend... Kristoffer. They're from Norway. We were wondering if we could maybe, like, stay for a bit. If it's not a problem, at least."

He eyes the two. The yellowish one looked about 14. There was something about the purple one that was clearly indicating her to be a teenager.

"Suzanne, and Kristoffer," he ponders if those are their real names, "Come in."

Kristoffer wipes their feet and stops Suzanne to make her also wipe her feet. Suzanne is not impressed, but respects rules anyway.

Will stands up, "Who was there-?"

He stops and looks at the two. A kid that looks like it has kidney failure, and... an alligator mutant... thingy.

He stood in silence before Hannibal cheers, "Will, this is Suzanne and Kristoffer. I am allowing them to stay here for a while before they go home."

Suzanne puts on a nervous smile. Kristoffer... is not having an expression. He didn't mind.

"Hm. You kids alone? And just wander into some guys house? Isn't that-" he glares at Hannibal, "-dangerous?"

The kids look at eachother before Suzanne speaks up, "We've had worse experiences. And, if anyone tries getting us, I will beat their ass-"

Kristoffer places a shoulder on Suzanne's shoulder to remind her of manners. Will was impressed with this weird, yellow kid.
