Work Text:

The Hogwarts grounds were bathed in the soft glow of the moon, casting long shadows as Y/N and Tom Riddle stood facing each other near the entrance of the Forbidden Forest.

The air was thick with tension, the aftermath of a conversation that had just shattered the fragile bond between them.

Y/N couldn't bring herself to look directly at Tom, her eyes fixated on the ground as she spoke, her voice heavy with sadness, "I guess this is it, Tom."

Tom, usually composed and collected, frowned ever so slightly. His piercing gaze, which could be so cold, momentarily softened before he quickly masked it. "If that's what you want," he said, his tone unreadable.

Y/N sighed, her voice barely above a whisper, "I'm sure you're happy without me."

A flicker of vulnerability crossed Tom's face, a break in his normally unemotional demeanor.

His eyes betrayed a hint of something deeper, but it vanished almost as quickly as it appeared. He avoided making eye contact with Y/N, focusing on a distant point in the night sky.

"You sure?" he asked, his voice barely audible.

It was a question that carried more weight than he intended, a question that revealed a sliver of doubt, a rare crack in his facade.

Y/N felt her heart ache at the vulnerability she detected in his voice, but she held firm. "Yeah," she replied, her voice steady despite the inner turmoil. "I'm sure."

Tom nodded, a hint of resignation in his expression. He took a step back, distancing himself from Y/N physically and emotionally. The silence that followed was heavy with unspoken words and unresolved emotions.

As Y/N turned away, tears glistened in her eyes.

Tom, still avoiding her gaze, took a deep breath, masking his emotions once more.

The moon continued to cast its gentle glow on the grounds of Hogwarts, witnessing the quiet end of a chapter in the lives of two people whose paths had now diverged.
