Work Text:
It was just another day at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and the tension between Y/N and Matteo Riddle was thicker than ever.
The two had always found themselves on opposite ends of arguments in class, whether it was about magical theories or the best way to brew a potion.
Matteo, with his sharp wit and undeniable charm, often took pleasure in teasing Y/N, while she never hesitated to fire back with her quick comebacks.
Their dynamic had become somewhat of a spectacle among their classmates, who enjoyed watching the verbal sparring unfold.
Some suspected that there might be something more behind the constant banter, but nothing substantial had ever come of it.
One fateful day, during a particularly heated argument, Matteo crossed a line. His teasing had taken a personal turn, and Y/N, feeling a surge of protective anger, couldn't hold back any longer.
Before she knew it, she was defending another student against Matteo's cutting remarks, her words laced with a fierceness that surprised even herself.
As the tension escalated, the classroom door burst open, revealing none other than Harry Potter, Y/N's older brother.
The room fell silent as Harry, with a stern expression, took a step forward. Without uttering a word, he threw a punch at Matteo, catching him off guard and leaving him with a bruised eye.
The incident had consequences; Matteo was forced to wear an eye patch to conceal the injury.
In the days that followed, the atmosphere changed.
Matteo, undeterred by his newfound accessory, continued to play the charismatic troublemaker.
But when he approached Y/N with his usual teasing demeanor, he found her reaction quite different.
Y/N widened her eyes as she took in the sight of Matteo's eye patch, guilt washing over her. She shook her head, silently refusing to engage in their usual banter, and walked away without saying a word.
Matteo was left standing there, watching her retreat with a puzzled expression.
It didn't take long for Matteo to realize that everything between them had shifted. No longer was Y/N responding to his advances with fiery banter; instead, she looked at him with a mix of guilt and discomfort.
The realization hit him like a ton of bricks, and he couldn't shake the feeling that he had lost something valuable.
As days turned into weeks, Matteo found himself unable to focus in class. He couldn't help but steal glances at Y/N, who laughed and chatted with her friends as if nothing had changed.
The weight of regret settled on Matteo's shoulders as he wished he could turn back time and erase the words that had led to this shift in their dynamic.
Unbeknownst to him, Matteo's crush on Y/N had been growing beneath the surface all along, and now he found himself longing for the easy banter and playful teasing that had once defined their interactions.
But with every guilty look Y/N shot his way, he realized that things might never be the same again. If only he could take it all back, Matteo mused, so he could be with the girl he had unknowingly fallen for.
