Jongho's brown and round eyes sparkled as he presented Yeosang with plane tickets.
"Surprise! Weekend getaway to Florence!" And then he added, voice a little shy, "I thought you'd love visiting the art museums there"
Yeosang squealed, eyes wide with a joy that warmed Jongho from head to toe.
What Yeosang didn't know was that Jongho, fuelled by pure adoration and determination to impress Yeosang, had spent a week cramming Italian basics.
And what Jongho didn't know was that Yeosang had actually spent a few summers in a tiny Italian village as a child.
They landed in Florence, a whirlwind of vineyards and ancient charms. Eager to impress his hyungie, Jongho calls for the waiter to order for Yeosang. A burly man with a thick mustache approaches them.
Jongho points to the menu and orders, "Salve signore, vorrei ordinaire in meraviglioso piatto di spaghetti per il delizioso uomo qui"
(Hello sir, I would like to order a wonderful plate of spaghetti for the delicious man here)
The waiter raises an eyebrow as he joins a giggling Yeosang while they stare at the confused bear. The waiter responds back in some fast Italian and Jongho ends up pouting and staring at Yeosang, understanding that he had made a mistake.
(The waiter says, "I'm sure your man in delicious but I assure you our spaghetti is delicious as well")
Yeosang orders for them both in smooth Italian and sends the guffawing waiter on his way while he enjoys explaining the meaning to Jongho, as he watches his cheeks grow adorably red.
As they finally settle at a table for lunch in the bustling cafe, a tiny sparrow landed on the edge, jumping and chirping at Yeosang. Ever the kind hearted, he tossed it a stray crumb.
"Hey! No feeding the wildlife", Jongho teased, his smile radiating warmth.
"But he's cute!" Yeosang pouted, a smear of spaghetti sauce clinging to his cheek. Jongho chuckled, reaching out to dab it away.
"You're cuter", Jongho murmured, his voice so soft it released a bunch of butterflies in Yeosang's belly.
They make haste on their itinerary as they find their way to a gondola. As they glide down the picturesque canal, Jongho wanting to capture a lovely photo of his pretty boyfriend, leans a little too far from the center, causing him to almost lose balance, if not for the gondola captain's last minute save. The rest of the ride featured a red cheeked Jongho and a giggly Yeosang while the gondola driver murmured something about young love.
They explore the narrow streets while Yeosang is constantly supplied with gelato by Jongho. Yeosang thinks it's because Jongho knows he has a big sweet tooth, but Yeosang doesn't know that it's because it gives Jongho an excuse to wipe Yeosang's cheek, or the corner of his lips, and in the process he'd get to caress the cute cherry birthmark near Yeosang's hazel eyes, maybe even brush some of the stray strands of hair behind his ears.
Jongho is absolutely enamored watching Yeosang's passionate commentary & explanation while they stand in front of a masterpiece in the art gallery
"See how the light catches the fold of the cloak, Jjongie? It creates such a sense of drama & finesse! Do you see it? It-"
"I think you're prettier than Venus", Jongho blurts
"Cheesy", Yeosang mumbled, but there's a fondness in his voice.
Jongho grinned, "Maybe, but at least it's the truth." He took Yeosang's hand, calloused fingers against Yeosang's smooth ones.
"Besides who needs art, when I have you explaining it?"
Yeosang rolled his eyes, but couldn't supress a smile, "Oh really?"
His eyes take on a conspiratorial glint, "Maybe next time I'll wear a toga for a more immersive experience"
"Don't tempt me", Jongho whispers, his voice low and rough. "I might forget about art altogether"
Yeosang blushes as Jongho pulls him away as they walk hand in hand while they make their way through the rest of the gallery
The sun sets to give way to a beautiful dusky evening. Jongho adorably fumbles his request but manages to buy some flowers (with some translation help from Yeosang) for him.
The florist speaks some fast paced Italian regarding Jongho's choice of flowers that he doesn't understand but Yeosang does as he smiles wide, eyes fond. (The florist said Jongho chose flowers that meant eternal & devoted love)
As Yeosang held the flowers in one hand, enjoying the wonderful fragrance, his other hand was in a tight, warm grip with Jongho, they come across a street musician. Jongho excuses himself for a minute as he makes his way to the musician. Yeosang watches on, the musician halting his play, face momentarily confused as he sees Jongho communicate in hand signs, point at Yeosang once, until they smile as they seem to agree and nod. Jongho thanks the musician as he gently pulls Yeosang closer while he clears his throat in preparation.
Jongho serenades "Grande amore"(popular itallian love song), his pronunciation a little off, but sung ever so beautifully that has Yeosang tear up a little
Jongho sings as he holds Yeosang's waist, they sway together, hand in hand. They don't realise they attract a small audience, until they hear a round of applause, cheers for "young love" and murmurs of "lovely couple" and "lucky man" as Jongho completes his serenade.
After the crowd disperses, they sit in a secluded area overlooking the ocean, Jongho turns to Yeosang, smile a little hesitant, "This was one of the best days of my life even though I haven't been the smoothest with the language" he confessed.
Yeosang's heart ached, "You were perfect Jongho. Everything was perfect, Thank you so much" said Yeosang his voice soft.
"Ti amo, Sangie", Jongho spoke, his pronunciation absolutely perfect.
(I love you Sangie)
Yeosang's breath hitched as a few seconds passed by with silence.
Had he messed up? Is this not-
But then suddenly Yeosang lets out a happy gasp, tears welling in his eyes, he pulls Jongho into a tight hug as he whispers back, "anch'io ti amo Jongho-ya"
(I love you too Jongho)
And they're giggling as the moon smiles at them from the starry sky.
