Work Text:
Vox sat in his office watching the cameras around him, from one of them he could see Valentino arguing with Velvette, he ignored it and just passed it off as Velvette being upset he wouldn't buy her something she wanted. (even if she had the money for it)
He sighed and got back to work on his computer, filling out important paper work and sending emails out to his employees to let them know their work hours for the next week. he stretched, stood up and checked the watch on his wrist to see it was 11:00 A.M. he walked over to the door to leave his office to let Velvette and Val know it was time to get ready for the extermination.
Overlords could just as easily be killed during exterminations, but they had it a bit easier since they could hide much better then the average low life sinner, it was just a matter of staying quiet and hidden where they wouldn't look for you, Vox knew all about this of course, he'd been in hell long enough to know how to survive the extermination, and by now it was just a minor inconvenience to his work losing employees.
As he reached Velvette's area of the tower he saw he shouting at her employees and kicking things around out of anger as her poor workers ran from her as quickly as possible. He walked up to her to see what the deal was now.
"Velvette my dear, you should be getting ready for the extermination, what's going on here?" He asked with a fake smile and happy voice, hiding his irritation that she wasn't ready yet.
"seriously? That's not for another 2, maybe 3 fucking hours! I've got shit to get done and Val is being an ass right now so I'll be ready when I'm ready!" She snapped back at him, then she turned and walked over towards some employees working on more outfits in the corner. Vox followed her and continued to speak.
"Vel, I don't have time for this right now, just get yourself ready, I'll go get Valentino." He said with a hint of irritation in his voice, by this point he was no longer smiling and was beginning to lose his patience.
"ugh, not that fucking whore,"
'Here we go' Vox thought knowing she was about to go on a rant about all the shitty things Val had done in the last hour, which he honestly didn't care for, nor did he have the time for. He sighed looked down at Velvette and was about to speak before Velvette started talking again.
"he thought it would be funny to RUIN one of MY dresses on stage! He dumped paint on my models head! And then he wouldn't buy me a new dress I wanted even though he owes me for ruining mine!"
Vox checked his watch again and sighed tuning out most of what Velvette was saying, it was going to be hard to put these two in a room together for the extermination, keeping them quiet for hours in a dark room didn't seem like the bets idea, not right now while Velvette was this upset.
"Velvette," he said as calmly as he could, waiting for her to look up at him, which she did after a moment.
"Look, the extermination is coming in just a few hours, I know your angry at Val, but now is not the time, you can tell me about it later, we have to go into the bunker."
He grabbed her arm and tried to get her to follow him, which didn't work well as she jerked her arm back with an annoyed look on her face
"I am not going into a bunker for hours with him, when he's been this shitty, and your not even listening to all the things he's done to ruin my day!" She whined, stomping her foot on the ground in a rather childish way.
"you would rather be killed by those angelic fucks then hide with Valentino for a few hours?" He said getting more annoyed at her bratty behavior. He looked around the room to see most of Velvette's employees either pretending not to listen or running around trying to get as much done as possible, some were doing nothing at all and just waiting for Velvette to tell them to go home or give them more orders.
"yeah, I would actually, that fucking bitch has been an absolute pain in the ass to me all day and I've done nothing to him!"
Vox knew that last part likely wasting true since Velvette could easily be annoying and bratty when she didn't get what she wanted, Vox had to admit, she was a bit spoiled, but he didn't mind too much since he was mostly to blame for it.
When he'd found Velvette she'd only fallen into hell a few days ago, and was still confused about where she was, she'd been wandering around the vees tower and at Vox had assumed she was just some lost kid until she had spoken and he'd really she was very much not a child, she was close to being in her late teens or very early adult, she was just really short. Vox had decided to take her in to which Valentino agreed.
Vox looked down to Velvette and then back around the room, and then to Velvette once more. "Look, Vel we can talk about this after the extermination, but we have to get going its not safe, you don't even have to talk to Valentino, in fact you won't be at all because the point of hiding in a bunker is to be quiet and not talk!" Vox almost shouted at her.
Velvette looked to the ground and huffed, she then grabbed her phone and turned away from Vox.
Vox was more irritated now but just decided to go get Val and tell him to get his ass down into the bunker.
They did have time still, it was still a few hours until the exterminate, but Vox would rather be prepared hours early just in case the angels decided maybe they wanted to change the time, it had only ever happened to him once before, long before he'd found Velvette, but he still needed to be prepared.
When he got up to Valentino's tower he saw him sitting on his sofa with red smoke surrounding him, Vox walked up to him and opened his mouth but was immediately cut off.
"yes, yes I know, I'm ready and I'm not going into that fuck ass basement right now, we've still got time." He said giving Vox a suggesting grin. Vox ignored this and continued to lecture him.
"Ugh," he groaned putting one hand on his face. "look Velvette's mad at you and I don't care why, but we need to get into the bunker, the extermination stresses her out enough and you're not making it better."
Val gave him a disappointed look but got up and headed down to the bunker. Vox didn't follow him and went back down to see Velvette and try and convince her to go to. When he got back down to her area of the tower her saw her sitting down on one of her sshe'd fidgeting around it what almost seemed to be nervousness, but he new she'd never actually admit to that.
Vox knew the exterminations got her worked up, even though they would be fine in the bunker, she'd only been in hell a few years and was still getting used to them, he would still comfort her during the long hours they had to be in hiding the best he could.
"Velvette?" Vox said gently putting a hand on her shoulder. She jumped and looked up at him with wide eyes. "Look, we really should get going now-" he began but was cut off by Velvette.
"would you just stop and listen to me, I don't want to be down in the stupid old bunker right now, Val is being an asshole and all you care about is rushing me into the bunker."
"its for your own safety! The angels want to kill us, and guess what they don't give a shit your status in hell, they will kill you just the same!"
Velvette just looked down to the ground and crossed her arms. He sighed and sat down next to her.
"look I know your upset right now, but we can talk literally any other time, just lets go to the bunker before you get hurt."
Velvette looked back at him and stood up, she nodded and they walked down to the bunker.
They got down their and two sat on one of the couches on his phone ignoring Velvette and Vox as they walked in. Velvette sat down on the ground at got out her phone. He sat down next Val and sighed as he was able to relax for about another hour, he always made sure they were had all lights off and doors closed at least an hour before the angels got here.
He glanced down at Velvette who looked pretty tense.
"you alright there kid?" He asked leaning over her shoulder.
"what the fuck do you think?" She replied with an attitude.
Vox stood up from.the sofa and sat down on the ground next to Velvette, he knew she wasn't alright, even if she would never admit to being scared out loud. He put one hand on her shoulder trying to comfort her. The hour before the extermination was always the hardest because you don't have much time to get the things done that you need to, but too much time to just sit in silence waiting.
The next hour and a half was nothing but hearing feet shuffling above them as employees and other sinners scrambled to find places to hide from the angels.
All the lights were turned off and the doors were locked, Velvette was even more tense then before and had curled herself into a little ball, to this Fay Vox still never understood why she did that, what would making yourself small do to keep the angels away? Regardless, he wrapped his arms around her trying to be comforting.
She rested her head on his shoulder and squeezed her eyes shut, he held her tighter as they soon heard the screams of sinners being killed by the exterminators.
This went on for hours until finally, it stopped, they stayed hidden for another 30 minutes just to be sure. When Vox had decided it was safe he turned on the lights and motion to Velvette and Valentino that they could leave now. Val stood up immediately and left without a word.
"Come on kid, lets go." He said to Velvette who was still on the floor, she wasn't curled up anymore, and just sat on her phone again.
She stood up and walked over to Vox as he held the door open for her to leave. He followed her out the door as she spoke to him.
"That one felt longer then the others," she said, which Vox ignored for the most part she'd said things like that before, it was the same length as all the other exterminations, but he had learned there was no point in trying to argue with her as she was certain they were getting longer every year.
"I'm really sure it was."
He sighed. "If you say so." He said walked ahead of her to see who was still alive.
"Hey Vox?" Velvette said and he stopped and turned to face her.
"hm?"
"thank you." She said smiling at him, he smiled back at her, he knew she was talking about comfort her during the extermination, he did this every year, but this was the first year she had thanked him for it.
"you're welcome kid." He said as he walked away.
