Izuku & Kyou’s Big Day Out

Summary:

Izuku takes his boyfriend, Kyou, out to a concert as a surprise birthday gift, during which they bump into some good friends and acquaintances. After the show, Izuku decides he wants to do something risky.

Notes:

Kyoka’s birthday and Yaoi Day both fall on August 1st. I went to see Green Day for the first time on August 10th three years ago. So I figured, what the hell?

Also! I found this cool piece of art for male Kyoka so give them a like and a reblog https://www.tumblr.com/angst-king/758817551180562432/decided-to-draw-male-jiroukyo-i-might-draw-her?source=share

Work Text:

Kyou rolled his eyes as his gigantor boyfriend wrapped a blindfold around his face. “Seriously dude?”

Izuku chuckled. “Just trust me babe.”

Kyou had met Izuku in January, three years before at a local music store, Kyou had relocated to the United States from Musutafu on a music scholarship for the University of Michigan-Flint while Izuku and his mother had moved out that way to live with his father, five years before him. They quickly gravitated towards each other, being one of the few Japanese people in their area. After six months, Kyou and Izuku were best friends. One year after that, they were boyfriends.

Kyou huffed but complied, smirking at this damn nerd he’d fallen in love with. “So what is this? Some kind of birthday surprise?” The 1.73 meter punk rocker asked, looking up at the 2.08 meter comic book store employee before finally putting on the damn blindfold.

“You got it in one, babe! Gosh, you’re so smart!” Izuku teased, pecking Kyou’s cheek before starting the car.

“Can you at least tell me where we’re going?” Kyou grumbled, sitting back in the passenger seat.

“Detroit. We should get something to eat first. What’s your preference?”

Kyou thought for a moment. What sounded best? “Can we get Culver’s? I know it’s a little expen-“

“Shhhh, it’s your birthday. Kyou gets what Kyou wants,” Izuku dismissed.

Kyou made an exhausted face.

“Something wrong babe?” Izuku teased.

“I just can’t take so much kindness in one sitting!” Kyou said in a deeper voice than usual. “Need… Hatred!”

Izuku burst out laughing. “No hatred here, just the love and affection you deserve.”

Kyou made a face, an annoyed one this time. “And what did you do on your day two weeks ago?”

“I went to work like normal and avoided my loved ones like the plague,” Izuku replied.

Kyou groaned. “Why can’t you just let me love you?!”

Izuku laughed. “I did, Mr. Toshinori forced me to take the day off and then you and him dragged me out to Heroic Souls because they’re the only bar in town that serves Japanese beer, and then you all forced me to celebrate my day with you, him, my mom, and my dad. You drank too much and blacked out.”

Kyou went silent. He didn’t remember any of that but it sounded very in character for him. “Pics or it didn’t happen!”

Izuku chuckled and handed his violet haired boyfriend his phone. Kyou pulled up his blindfold and opened the phone then went through the pictures. Some cute stuff with his work friends, Shoto and Ochako, a screenshot from an email from U of M-Flint’s student admin talking about little Miss Mineta, a picture of some jewelry, that’s weird, and, yep, there it was pictures from Izuku’s birthday party including him passed out in his lap. Kyou groaned. “Did I-“

“Yes, you threw up. No, you didn’t embarrass yourself in front of my family,” Izuku chuckled.

Phew!

“You didn’t make it to the toilet though, you wound up puking into the urinal. I wound up tipping Rody with the money mom and dad gave me because he was pissed!”

Kyou cringed.

“Pino was really good about it though.”

Well at least only one of the owners was pissed at him. “I’d rather Rody be mad at me than Pino.”

“True that,” Izuku cringed.

“So are we gonna drive in silence or are we going to put on some tunes?” Kyou asked.

Izuku smirked. “Plug my phone in and pull up my playlist, Mega Hellacious.”

Kyou’s eyes went wide. “Are we…?”

“Are we… What babe?” Izuku teased.

Kyou eyed his boyfriend suspiciously as he scanned the playlist. It was loaded with Green Day, Weezer, and Fall Out Boy. He hit shuffle and was immediately greeted with the sound of the opening riff to American Idiot. Oh this guy was either the greatest boyfriend ever or the worst, and that all depended on whether or not they were actually going where he thought they were.

“Put the blindfold back on,” The taller man chuckled, seeing Kyou’s eyes probing him for info.

“Let me know when we get to Culver’s,” Kyou grumbled, pulling the blindfold back down.

Just over an hour and 14 songs into the playlist later, Izuku and Kyou were pulling into a parking garage.

“Can I take it off now?” Kyou chuckled.

“Not just ye-“

“Izuku!” Gasped a third voice.

Okay Kyou had to take off the blindfold now.

“Ochako! Jin! It’s Izuku and Kyou!” Chanted a gorgeous, excited blonde girl with eyes like a cat’s.

“Oh hey Deku! Hey Kyou!” Greeted an equally gorgeous brunette girl in English, her face alight with the biggest and friendliest smile Kyou had ever seen.

“It’s good to see you guys!” Greeted a rough looking tall blonde man with tired eyes and a long scar running down his forehead. “Go fuck yourselves!” He immediately added, causing Kyou to chuckle.

Izuku grinned back at their friends as his and Kyou’s eyes were greeted with the sight of Himiko, Jin, and Ochako. Kyou gave Izuku another suspicious glance as he took note of everyone’s Fall Out Boy t-shirts and a grocery bag that Ochako was carrying that clearly had one of Kyou’s band shirts and a denim jacket in it. Kyou smirked and decided to take the chance. “So are you guys excited for the concert?”

“What concer-?” Ochako tried to reply.

“YES! OMG! Izukun bought all our tickets two years ago but then everyone had to cancel because of all the bullcrap that started happening last March! I was so sad! I love Fall Out Boy, you love Green Day, Izukun loves Weezer, it was gonna be so much fun, but now that we’ve been cooped up inside for a year, it’s gonna be even more fun!” Himiko rambled, a big goofy grin on her face.

Izuku and Ochako exchanged glances and then face palmed.

Himiko looked between her girlfriend and her ex with a confused expression before putting her hands over her mouth as   the realization dawned on her. “Oh no…”

“It was gonna be a surprise?” Kyou smirked.

Himiko nodded, now afraid to speak.

Izuku huffed, then looked back at Ochako. “Did you bring our shirts?”

“And Kyou’s jean jacket with the rock band patches and pins!” She answered, pulling the items from the grocery bag.

“Mine!” Kyou chanted excitedly as he took the shirt and the jacket from Ochako.

Izuku then pulled off his plain white “t-shirt” t-shirt (much to the delight of Kyou and the girls) and swapped it out for a plain white T that just read Weezer on it. “You sure you don’t want to just go out with no shirt?” Kyou teased, wanting to ogle his boyfriend’s amazing body a bit more.

Izuku chuckled. “As much as I love you enjoying the sight of me, these tickets were too expensive to have you distracted,” He teased.

Kyou pouted then took his black American Idiot T and changed to the delight of Izuku and the girls again despite being a much thinner man than Izuku. Kyou was a guy who took good care of his body and had decent muscle definition but his boyfriend on the other hand looked like a Greek God thanks to being a volunteer firefighter and a dedicated martial artist. It’d seem unfair if Kyou didn’t find him so freaking hot.

“Is everyone just gonna ogle each other all night or are we gonna go see this show we waited two years to see?” Jin laughed, looking at everyone with an amused smirk.

“I don’t know, I just got paid and I wouldn’t mind seeing these boys do a dance for us,” Ochako teased, causing Kyou to double over laughing while Izuku hid his blushing face.

Soon enough the five friends were all walking into the arena with Ochako’s grocery bag now holding six t-shirts instead of just two. Izuku and Kyou only bought one shirt each. Ochako had only sprang for a Fall Out Boy wristband to give to her roommate, Mina. Jin only bought a CD for Weezer’s newest release. And Himiko bought a whopping four t-shirts! One from each of the headliners and one from the opening band.

“I wanna be supportive!” The blonde girl whined when she was greeted by her girlfriend’s deeply worried expression.

Kyou gave Izuku a confused look.

“Reckless spending makes her breakout in hives,” Izuku explained.

“Oh! Okay.”

“My dad got laid off at GM back in ‘08, money was really tight for a while there. That kind of mentality about being frugal sticks with you,” Ochako explained, looking apologetic.

“I get it babe,” Himiko reassured, giving her American born girlfriend a hug and a kiss.

“I love you,” The brunette hummed in Japanese.

“I love you too,” Himiko grinned.

“Happy birthday baby,” Ochako added, grinning back at her.

“Thank you! I can’t wait to celebrate it with you here!”

Kyou let out a derisive laugh. “Alright enough of this gooey sh-“ Kyou trailed off when he noticed Izuku suddenly glaring at him for being rude- “show of emotion…” He concluded, trying to save himself from Izuku’s disappointment.

Izuku chuckled, much to his boyfriend’s relief. “He’s a jerk, but he’s my jerk,” the big man teased, pecking Kyou’s cheek, much to their embarrassment, “but more importantly, he’s also right! Let’s fucking go!”

“We should probably ask them to give us our actual tickets, this looks like a misprint,” Ochako suggested. “Judging by the seat number, we’d be having floor seats.”

Izuku’s confident grin turned mischievous. Ochako, Himiko, Kyou, and Jin’s jaws fell.

“You didn’t!”

“Oh yes I did!”

“But we split the cost! It was gonna be a birthday gift for Himi and Kyou! I didn’t send you nearly enough for floor seats!”

Izuku chuckled. “We did split the cost, I paid for a quarter, you paid for a quarter, and then Shoto sent me enough to cover floor seats for all of us.“

“Oh I know Shoto has a girlfriend back in Japan but I’m giving him the biggest Goddamn kiss of his life the next time I see him!” Kyou declared excitedly.

“Yep, he covered for the five of us plus-“

“Midoriya-san!” Hollered a deep gruff voice.

“Plus three,” Izuku groaned.

“Midoriya-san! Good to see you!”

“Good to see you too, Coach Todoroki,” Izuku replied, forcing a smile onto his face as he turned to greet a man only a handful centimeters shorter than himself with deep red hair and the most piercing blue eyes. “This is my boyfriend, Kyou.”

“We’ve met before, it’s good to see you again,” Kyou acknowledged, giving the coach a handshake and a friendly smile despite his disdain for the man based on Shoto’s accounts of him.

“Likewise.”

“And this is my best friend, Ochako, her girlfriend, Toga, and Toga’s roommate, Bubaigawara,” Izuku introduced.

“A pleasure to meet you all, I am Enji Todoroki, I am Midoriya’s martial arts instructor,” greeted the large man. “This is my son, Touya.”

“Whatever,” replied a white haired man about just a bit taller than Kyou with the same eyes as Izuku’s coach.

“And this is Touya’s boyfriend, Iguchi Shuichi,” He added, gesturing to a fellow Japanese man with pink hair wearing green eyeliner and a t -shirt with a picture of a gecko on it.

“Just call me Spinner and call him Dabi, we’re not big on government names,” He joked, offering his hand for Izuku to shake.

“Spinner? Didn’t I beat your friend, Tenko, at the martial arts tournament in Dearborn last year?” Izuku asked.

“Yeah, that’s how Dabi and I met, he was rooting against you and all of Enji’s other students,” Spinner explained, laughing at the memory.

“I’ll try not to take that personally,” Izuku chuckled.

“I’ll take it personally for him! Go to hell!” Kyou joked.

Izuku laughed then glanced back at Enji. “So Coach Todoroki, what are you doing here? I didn’t think you liked this kind of music.”

“Truthfully, you’d be correct to think that, I’m not the biggest fan of these bands but I share a birthday with Iguchi and I wanted to spend the day with my oldest son and the man he loves. Fuyumi was going to go with the boys but unfortunately she’s sick with the Coronavirus, so she let me have her ticket.”

“That’s too bad,” Kyou sighed, looking disappointed for the Todoroki girl.

“Don’t feel too bad, we promised to film everything and send it to her.” Spinner reassured.

“Which reminds me, would anyone care to film the opening act? Touya said he would film Fall Out Boy, I agreed to film Green Day since that is Touya and Iguchi’s favorite, and Iguchi himself said he’ll film Weezer,” Coach Todoroki explained.

“I can do it!” Volunteered Jin. “No fucking way!” He added, immediately contradicting himself.

Todoroki glanced at Izuku in confusion. “He hit his head really hard a few years ago, he’s fine now, but every once in a while he’ll say something that contradicts what he just said,” the bigger man explained.

“It’s just a tic, you learn to tune it out,” Kyou added.

Todoroki nodded, giving the blonde man a sympathetic look who merely shrugged in reply. “It’s not easy but having my best friend here makes it a lot better,” he explained, giving Himiko a big hug.

Todoroki smiled.

“Okay enough feelings, let’s get out there!” Izuku hollered.

“Let’s fucking go!” Kyou cheered.

“LET’S FUCKING GO!” Himiko, Jin, and Ochako screamed out in excitement as the five of them ran towards the ground level, leaving their three acquaintances in the dust.

The show went off without a hitch with everyone singing along to every song they knew, even the Todoroki father and son duo endeavored to enjoy themselves despite being the crabapples that they were. Izuku and Spinner were rocking out for most of Weezer’s set, passionately losing their voices because of songs like El Scorcho, Beverly Hills, Hash Pipe, Pork & Beans, and Undone. Likewise the two girlfriends were jamming out just hard for Fall Out Boy’s set with Himiko ending the night just as hoarse as Izuku thanks to screaming her heart out during Sugar, We’re Going Down, Thnks fr th Mmrs, My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark, Centuries, and Immortals. Dabi and Kyou nearly exploded the minute Billie Joe, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool walked onto the stage, the former was more fired up than anyone had ever seen him and Kyou was practically vibrating with excitement at the sight of his favorite band. Hearing the opening to American Idiot nearly sent the poor boy into cardiac arrest. It was a killer show with all the favorites, Basket Case, Welcome to Paradise, Brain Stew, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and 21 Guns, but the biggest highlight came at the end of the set. Billie Joe closed out the show the usual way, with a solo performance of Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) and the moment Billie walked off, Izuku saw his opportunity and he took it.

“So did you have a good time babe?” Izuku asked, trying to keep his tone even as he felt his heart racing.

“You could say I had the time of my life,” Kyou teased, getting on his tiptoes to kiss Izuku’s cheek.

Izuku chuckled. “Every day with you is the time of my life,” he said softly.

Kyou immediately picked up that something was off. “Are you okay, Izuku?”

“Not gonna lie, I’m a little nervous right now.”

“Why are you ner- What are you doing?” Kyou asked, his eyes going wide as Izuku went down on one knee in front of him and took his hands.

“Kyou Jiro, you have been my greatest friend ever since we met in that music store in Flint in 2018. I love you more than literally anything in the world. You’ve done nothing but fill my life with music and excitement and just… Joy. So much joy,” Izuku started to cry. He laughed a bit. “Sorry, you know me, I get emotional a lot,” he apologized.

“It’s okay,” Kyou reassured, feeling tears in his own eyes.

Izuku took a breath. “After so much craziness these past few years, I don’t want to wait a minute longer to ask you this important question,” he reached into his back pocket and pulled out a small jewelry box.

Kyou’s eyes flashed with recognition. It was the same box he’d seen in Izuku’s camera roll earlier. “Oh fuck!” He gasped. “Is that what I think it is?”

Izuku nodded and opened the box, sure enough it was the same ring Kyou had seen earlier.

“Oh Goddammit!” He laughed. How had he not put it together earlier?!

“Kyou Jiro, will you-“

“Of course I fucking will!” Kyou laughed. “I love you too, Izuku. Of course I’ll marry you.”

Izuku let out a sigh of relief and slid the ring onto Kyou’s finger, he then moved back to his feet. He then swept Kyou into his strong arms and kissed his boyfriend deeply much to the excitement of their friends and the crowd around them.

“Good birthday?” Izuku teased.

“Best birthday ever,” Kyou replied, grinning up his new fiancé.
