“I can’t believe you’d betray me like this, Julio!”
“Martha my love, it was a mistake!”
“No… It was no mistake… We were a mistake!!”
“Martha, no!!!”
Jensen groaned loudly. He had no idea how Donnie enjoyed these stupid telenovela type shows. Some of them did catch his attention, he’ll admit that. But others… Not only was the plot shallow and meaningless, the acting wasn’t even that good. Everything was overly dramatic and cheesy. All of the conflicts could have been resolved before even becoming conflicts if the characters weren’t so… whatever word one would use to describe this .
“Babe, your taste in TV is ass,” Jensen complained. Donnie scoffed, shouting his reply from the stove top he was currently stationed in front of.
“I think you just don’t understand romance,” he teased. Jensen grumbled, turning his attention back to the TV screen. As the two main characters kept bickering over a minor misunderstanding, Jensen made a small puppeteering motion with his hand. All these shows did was talk, talk, talk.
Still, no matter how stupid or badly written these shows are, it was something Donnie liked. The over-the-top dialogue and shoddy acting will always be worth it in the end. It was a sort of unspoken agreement between them, trying out things the other liked. Oftentimes Donnie would take his wallflower boyfriend out for a night of clubbing with the promise of going ax throwing with him the next weekend. Did Donnie know even the slightest thing about how to hold an ax? No, of course not. But it was something that Jensen loved and, somehow, was extremely good at. The embarrassment of fumbling around with a very dangerous weapon in front of a professional and the love of his life was worth the wonder Donnie would see in his boyfriend’s sparkling eyes.
So yes, sitting through these crappy love stories was necessary.
“Alright doll, sit up and scootch.” Jensen huffed, sacrificing the cozy position he had finally reached in favor of sitting on the couch like a normal human being. Donnie placed the two bowls in hand on the coffee table before taking the now vacant side of the couch. Jensen snatched the bowl in front of him, staring at it almost suspiciously.
“Calm down, it’s curry,” Donnie reassured him.
“What’s in it?” Jensen stirred the curry around with his spoon. This wasn’t the usual kind of dish for Donnie to make. Not that he had any doubt in Donnie’s cooking abilities. He simply didn’t know what to expect.
“Carrots, potatoes, some other veggies. Just try it Jen, it’s really not gonna be as bad as you’re thinking,” Donnie teased. Jensen sighed, shoveling a decent sized scoop into his mouth with no further question.
“Okay, fine, it’s not bad.”
“See? You have so little faith in me, it almost makes me sad.” Jensen simply rolled his eyes and tuned back into the sickeningly bad TV show. Oh.. the show he was watching had already ended. Good riddance. Donnie reached for the remote and flicked through a few channels, settling on a crime fiction channel that was currently playing some overly gruesome forensics show that was, in some god-forsaken way, Jensen’s absolute favorite. He sat through two hours of Donnie’s telenovelas, he deserved this. Halfway through the second episode, with empty bowls soaking in the sink, Donnie shivered.
“How do you sit through this stuff? It’s so gorey,” Donnie whined.
“Same way you sit through crappy rom coms and dramas,” Jensen snapped back playfully. “I don’t know how you even follow some of those ridiculous plots.”
“Heyy, you like some of my romance dramas! Remember the one we watched last week? You were enjoying that one more than even I was!” Jensen rolled his eyes and leaned against Donnie’s side. Without a second thought, a toned arm snaked around his torso to hold him in place.
“I love you, you know?” Donnie stated with a light kiss against Jensen’s temple.
“Yeah, I know. I love you too.”
