Race to angel Island

Summary:

Sonic and Tangle decide to race to Angel Island after hearing that Dr. Eggman is up to something there

Work Text:

The sun was just beginning to rise over Green Hill Zone, casting long shadows across the landscape. Sonic the Hedgehog stood atop a grassy hill, the wind ruffling his quills as he watched the horizon. Beside him, Tangle the Lemur stretched her arms, her long, prehensile tail curling in anticipation.

“So, what’s the plan today?” Tangle asked, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

Sonic grinned, a familiar look of mischief in his eyes. “How about a race?”

Tangle’s ears perked up. “A race? Against you? Are you sure you want to lose that badly?”

Sonic laughed. “We’ll see about that. But this isn’t just any race. We’re going to Angel Island.”

Tangle’s eyes widened in surprise. “Angel Island? Isn’t that where Knuckles is? What’s the occasion?”

“I got word that Eggman’s planning something up there,” Sonic explained. “Knuckles could use some backup, and I figured we’d have some fun getting there. First one to the Master Emerald wins.”

Tangle smirked, her competitive spirit ignited. “You’re on, Sonic. But don’t cry when I beat you.”

With a quick countdown, the two dashed off, leaving a cloud of dust in their wake. Sonic sped through the familiar terrain of Green Hill Zone, his feet barely touching the ground as he zigzagged between trees and over loops. Tangle kept pace by using her tail to swing from branches, vaulting over obstacles with acrobatic ease.

They reached the edge of the island, where the ocean stretched out before them, the distant shape of Angel Island hovering in the sky.

“Looks like we’ll need a lift,” Sonic said, spotting a nearby Tornado plane parked on a small airstrip.

Tails, who had been working on the plane, looked up as Sonic and Tangle approached. “Need a ride?”

“More like a boost,” Sonic replied with a grin. “Can you get us to Angel Island?”

Tails nodded, hopping into the pilot seat. “Hop on! I’ll get you as close as I can.”

Sonic and Tangle climbed onto the wings of the Tornado as Tails took off, the plane soaring through the sky toward Angel Island. The wind whipped through their fur and quills, and Tangle couldn’t help but let out a whoop of excitement.

As they neared the island, Sonic gave Tangle a nod. “Ready to jump?”

“Ready when you are!” she called back.

With perfect timing, Sonic and Tangle leaped from the plane, somersaulting through the air as they descended toward the floating island. Sonic landed in a roll, springing to his feet in an instant, while Tangle used her tail to cushion her landing with a graceful flip.

“Not bad, Tangle,” Sonic said, already breaking into a sprint. “But you’ll have to be faster than that!”

Tangle grinned, racing after him. The two sped through the lush, ancient forests of Angel Island, the air filled with the scent of wildflowers and the distant sound of waterfalls. They weaved through the trees, leaped over ravines, and dashed across bridges that spanned deep chasms.

As they neared the heart of the island, Sonic began to pull ahead, his natural speed giving him the advantage. But Tangle wasn’t far behind, using every trick in her book to keep up. When they reached the final stretch, the towering form of the Master Emerald shrine came into view.

“Last chance, Tangle!” Sonic called over his shoulder.

Tangle narrowed her eyes, spotting a vine hanging low over the path. With a swift motion, she grabbed it with her tail and swung forward, launching herself ahead of Sonic in a daring move. Sonic’s eyes widened in surprise as Tangle got past him.

Before they could go further, a familiar voice called out. “You two! What’s the rush?”

Knuckles the Echidna appeared from behind the shrine, his arms crossed and a bemused expression on his face. “You’re lucky I’m not one of Eggman’s bots, or you’d both be in trouble.”

Sonic chuckled. “We couldn’t resist a little race. But we’re here to help. What’s the situation?”

Knuckles nodded, his expression growing serious. “Eggman’s been trying to tap into the Master Emerald’s power again. I’ve been holding him off, but he’s got some new tricks up his sleeve. I could use the backup.”

Tangle flexed her fingers, ready for action. “Just point us in the right direction, Knuckles. We’re ready to go.”

As the three of them prepared to face whatever Eggman had in store, Sonic couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride. Racing to Angel Island with Tangle had been a thrill, but the real adventure was just beginning. And with Tangle by his side, he knew they were unstoppable.

“Let’s go save the day,” Sonic said, giving Tangle a quick, affectionate squeeze on her shoulder before dashing off toward the next challenge.

With Tangle and Knuckles following close behind, the trio was ready to take on whatever Eggman had planned and protect the Master Emerald—and their world—once again.
