Work Text:
The afternoon sun was bathing the spacious living room in a soft, golden light, the house was filled with a beautiful and peaceful atmosphere as the twins Rinlada and Ranlada were playing on the playmat that Lada had laid out for them. It had been a quiet day, the type of day Fahlada cherished– no work, no appointments, just staying at home with her two little precious girls and her beloved wife.
Still, Lada couldn’t believe that this was her life. She sat on the floor, leaning against the couch as she watched her twin babies with a contented, pleased smile on her lips. The thoughts were running in her head. The last couple of years were not kind to Fahlada and Earn, they had to face a lot of battles until they got their way back to each other. Twins’ birth was complicated, almost causing Earn’s death. Motherhood was something she had never experienced before, those endless sleepless nights, diaper changes, tantrums of the babies were exhausting. But in the midst of the chaos, there was someone who was always beside her.
It was Earn.
The doctor’s little naughty girl, Earn, had never once let go of Lada's hand, not even for a moment. Through the years, she stood by her side, unwavering in her commitment, fighting for their love, and constantly proving the depth of her affection. Earn's strength was unyielding, something that Lada admired all the time.
They were more than just wives, they were each other’s entire universe. To Lada, Earn was as vital as oxygen, as essential as the air she breathed. Without Earn, her life would lose its color and its vibrancy.
Being able to raise their two beautiful children together was something that Lada couldn’t even explain with words. Every day with her girls was a gift, a real proof and testament to the life they had built, a life filled with love, laughter and dreams.
This had been Lada’s dream. And now she was living that dream, having a peaceful and private life with her precious girls.
Life couldn’t get better than this.
Lada kept watching her girls; Rinlada, with her light brown hair and big eyes, was the quieter and older one. She was playing with the plush penguin again, which Lada bought for her as a gift, and since then she always kept it with herself. Her gaze focused on the plush and she was examining the toy with great interest. She was a very stubborn but also very careful child, always taking her time to study and examine her surroundings – much like Lada herself. Ranlada, on the other hand, was a ray of sunshine, a literal ball of energy just like Earn. Her dark hair framed her chubby cheeks, and her brown eyes sparkled with mischief as she crawled around, always on the move.
Earn was lying on the floor nearby, her head propped up on a pillow as she played peek-a-boo with Ranlada. Each time she covered her face with her hands, Ranlada would giggle in delight, crawling closer to try and pull her hands away. The sound of Ranlada’s laughter filled the room, which made the atmosphere memorable.
“Peek-a-boo!” Earn said again, revealing her face with a wide grin. Ranlada squealed with laughter, her little hands reaching out to touch Earn’s face.
“Again!” Ranlada’s voice was a high-pitched babble, her words not yet fully formed, but the intent was clear.
Earn laughed, reaching out to tickle Ranlada’s belly and kissing her hand. “You’re getting so fast and naughty, little one. Pretty soon, you’ll be running circles around us.”
“Naughty just like her mama,” Lada commented playfully. Earn turned her head towards Lada, and stuck out her tongue. Then she kept playing with her daughter, with a content smile on her face.
Meanwhile, Fahlada only smiled back and decided to add a bit more fun to the peaceful afternoon. She got up and reached for the acoustic guitar resting against the wall and began to strum a soft, gentle melody. The familiar sound filled the room, and the twins immediately perked up, their eyes wide with curiosity.
Rinlada, who was absorbed in her exploration of the plush penguin, suddenly stopped playing with it and looked at Lada. Seeing the guitar, her mom singing and playing a gentle melody, her focus was now fixed on the woman in front of her. Her big eyes were wide with curiosity as she reached out, her little fingers grasping the air as if wanting to come closer.
Seeing the movements of her daughter, Fahlada stopped playing the guitar and placed it next to herself. She leaned forward and held out her hands to her daughter.
“Come here, my little baby girl,” She said softly, her voice laced with encouragement and happiness.
Rinlada was still hesitating, her eyes wondering between Lada, the guitar and the space between them. She slowly shifted on the playmat and tried to get up on her knees. Her small body swayed as she tried to find her balance. Lada was holding her breath, her heart was beating faster than ever as she watched her little daughter. Rinlada was usually so cautious, always preferring to crawl rather than risk standing up on her unsteady legs.
But today, something was different. She seemed determined, her little brow furrowed in concentration, a habit she inherited from Lada, as she slowly pushed herself up onto her feet. The shocking expression could be read from Lada’s face, her eyes widened in surprise as she realized what was happening. “Earn, look!” she called, her voice a mix of excitement and disbelief.
Earn turned her head just in time to see Rinlada take her first, wobbly step. It wasn’t a proper step, but it was enough to make Lada’s heart burst out with pride. Rinlada paused, swaying slightly as she looked at Lada with wide, uncertain eyes.
“You can do it, Rinlada,” Lada whispered. She held out her hands, encouraging her daughter to keep going.
As if her mom’s encouraging words were all she needed to hear, Rinlada took another step, and then another, each one a little more confident than the last. Her movements were slow and careful, as if she were testing the ground beneath her feet.
“Oh my God,” Earn breathed, her voice filled with awe and shock. She sat up, her eyes glued to Rinlada as if she couldn’t believe what she was seeing. “She’s walking, Lada. She’s really walking.”
Lada only nodded and smiled, her eyes never leaving Rinlada. Everything seemed to fade away, the only thing she could focus on was her daughter’s determined little face as she made her way toward her. Lada’s hands were trembling slightly as she reached out to catch Rinlada, who was now just a few steps away.
With one final shaky step, Rinlada fell into Lada’s arms. Lada caught her swiftly, pulling her closer to her chest as tears started forming in her eyes. “You did it, sweetheart,” she whispered and planted a soft kiss on her daughter’s head. “You did it.”
Rinlada looked up at Lada, her eyes shining with a mix of pride and excitement. She giggled, her small hands patting Lada’s cheeks as if to say, “I did it, mom.”
Earn was on her feet in an instant, rushing over to join them. She dropped to her knees beside Lada, her eyes wide with joy as she reached out to touch Rinlada’s soft hair. “You’re amazing, Rinlada,” she said, her voice filled with pride. “You’re amazing!” She kept peppering her daughter’s face with small kisses.
Lada looked over at Earn, her heart swelling with love for her wife. They had been through so much together, and now they were here, witnessing this incredible milestone. She could see the same emotions reflected in Earn’s eyes—the awe, the pride, the overwhelming love for their daughters.
And then, out of the corner of her eye, Lada noticed movement. She turned her head just in time to see Ranlada, who had been watching her sister with great interest, suddenly push herself up onto her feet. Ranlada’s dark eyes sparkled with determination as she steadied herself, her small body swaying slightly as she found her balance.
“Oh no,” Earn whispered, her voice tinged with excitement. “She’s going for it too. P’mor look at it!”
Ranlada’s first step was more confident than Rinlada’s had been, her little legs moving with a surprising amount of determination. With each step, her grin grew wider, and by the time she reached Earn, she was practically running.
Earn let out a joyous scream, catching Ranlada as she launched herself into her arms. “When I said pretty soon, you’ll be running circles around us, I wasn’t expecting it to be this soon, little one,” She kept talking with her daughter. She twirled Ranlada around, both of them laughing as they spun and Earn kept shouting “You did it.”
Lada watched them with tears in her eyes, her heart so full of pride. This was everything she had ever wanted, everything she had ever dreamed of—a family filled with love, laughter, and moments like this. She looked down at Rinlada, who was now resting her head against Lada’s chest, her little body warm and soft in her arms.
“I still can’t believe it,” She whispered. “My little girls are walking.”
Earn, who was still holding Ranlada in her arms, looked over at the doctor with bright eyes. “We did it, P’mor,” she said, her voice thick with emotion. “We’re raising these amazing little girls.” The tears were streaming down on Earn’s cheek. Lada wiped her tears away with her thumb, then placed a soft kiss on Earn’s cheeks. Her heart swelling with pride as she looked at her daughters and Earn. They had come so far, had overcome so many challenges, and now they were witnessing one of the most incredible moments of their lives. Watching their daughters take their first steps, seeing the joy and determination in their eyes, Lada knew that they were doing something right.
“Life doesn’t get better than this,” Lada said softly, her voice filled with contentment.
Earn looked up at her, her smile softening as she reached out to take Lada’s hand. “No, it doesn’t,” she agreed, her voice full of love.
Ranlada and Rinlada both giggled, reaching out with tiny hands to touch their mothers' faces and play with their hair. Their laughter filled the room, echoing the joy and love that had built this family. In that instant, Lada realized something profound—just like a folk song, their love would be passed on, carried forward through time. Their daughters, the living embodiment of their love, were the greatest testament to this truth.
They sat there together, holding their daughters close, savoring the moment. The world outside could wait—this was their time, their moment, and they were going to hold onto it for as long as they could.
