Hisame's Type

Summary:

While on a group study session, Suzu asks Hisame what type of girl she's interested in. Will they ever get any work done?

Work Text:

"Do you like tall girls specifically?" Suzu asked.

Hisame blinked. "Where's this coming from?"

Across the table, Koharu looked up from her notebook in mild interest. The three of them were gathered around a table for a group study session. Suzu was supposed to be doing her math worksheet, but, apparently, her mind was elsewhere.

Suzu shrugged. "I was just thinking. We're both taller than you."

Hisame felt a little flustered at the sudden attention. She feigned disinterest. "So?"

"I mean, I'm just saying."

"Yukishiro Akira," Koharu added. Honestly, Hisame didn't expect her to take part in such a dumb conversation. "She's taller than you as well."

Hisame's face flushed. "Akira is— Can we just focus on our work?"

Suzu raised her hands in surrender as she backed off. "Fine, fine." She turned her attention back to her worksheet.

Hisame let out a relieved sigh. The quiet sound of pencils scratching and papers shuffling filled the air. With the conversation turned away from her love life, Hisame could focus on studying. She turned the page of her book. Slowly, the heat in her face faded little by little.

After a few beats of silence, Suzu spoke up again. "Bananan's pretty tall."

Koharu glanced up from her notebook. She looked at Hisame expectantly.

"Nana and I aren't together," Hisame said.

"Yeah, but you went to junior high together."

Koharu nodded. "That's a good point."

Hisame looked at her incredulously. "That is not a good point! Don't encourage her!" Really, she expected more out of Koharu than to indulge Suzu in her blatant attempt to get out of doing work! Wasn't she supposed to be the leader here?

Suzu propped her elbows on the table and rested her chin on her hands. Her eyes held a glimmer of mischief. "I want to know more about you and Bananan's history."

"You already know it all!"

"Do you like her?"

"As a friend."

"Okay. Whatever you say."

"Koharu, you believe me, right?"

Koharu studied her for a moment. Then, she gave a little half-hearted shrug. "I don't have enough details on the nature of your relationship."

Suzu nodded, evidently thinking Koharu was on her side. Judging by how things had gone so far, she actually might be. "Exactly! That's why you need to tell us all the details."

Hisame shook her head. "Don't be ridiculous."

The fact of the matter was that nothing happened between her and Nana. Now, that wasn't to say that Hisame didn't have a crush on her when they were younger. She'd never admit that to Suzu. That had been in the past. Nana was practically glued to Junna's side, and Hisame had her hands full with her own girls. Junna could keep Nana for all she cared.

"Okay," Suzu said, nodding. "But what about Yukking?" Suzu and her goofy nicknames would be the death of Hisame one day. "I think you've got a type."

"Hisame," Koharu's smooth voice cut through any argument Hisame was about to give. "I'm a little curious. What type of person do you like?"

Hisame readjusted her ponytail just to have something to do with her hands. She thought over the question before speaking carefully. "I guess I like… a girl with a lot of drive and determination. Someone who isn't afraid to take what she wants." Hisame cleared her throat awkwardly. "And I suppose it doesn't hurt to be tall," she added quietly.

Suzu nodded. "So me, Koharu, and Yukking." She pointed to each of them, then pointed to the general direction of Siegfeld. Actually, Siegfeld was in the opposite direction, but Hisame didn't really feel like correcting her.

Hisame was so flustered she didn't trust herself to say anything. Instead, she gave a curt little nod.

Koharu smiled. “Cute.”

Suzu giggled.

“Enough about me,” Hisame said, groaning. “I told you mine. You have to tell me your type now.” She jabbed her finger in Suzu’s direction.

“Me? I don’t have one.”

"What? But you just—"

Suzu shrugged.

"Koharu?" Hisame looked to her for help.

Suzu took the opportunity to pounce on this new topic. "Yeah, what's your type?"

Koharu hummed. "I like people who understand me." She looked between Suzu and Hisame, then smiled.

"Aw!" Suzu squealed. She threw her arms around Koharu in a hug and pressed a kiss to her cheek.

Hisame's phone buzzed on the table. She glanced at the screen.

"Is that Akira?" Koharu asked.

"No," Hisame lied. She huffed. "Can we not focus on whether or not I'm into tall girls and get back to work?"

Koharu let out a little laugh. "Hisame's right." She shook Suzu off of her.

Hisame let out a relieved sigh as everyone finally went back to work. She picked up her book and continued reading.

After a few moments, Koharu spoke up. "What did Akira say?"

Hisame huffed. "I expect this from Suzu, but you? Come on."

Suzu just laughed. She couldn't exactly argue, especially when she'd gotten them so off topic.

"Sorry," Koharu said with a smile that showed she was not at all sorry. "Just curious."

Hisame crossed her arms and glared.

Koharu chuckled. “I’ll get back to work.”

Finally, Hisame felt like they’d got it out of their systems. They could stop all this pointless chatter and get their work done.

Of course, Suzu chose that moment to start talking.

“You know, Claudine’s pretty tall.”

Hisame threw her book across the table.
