Work Text:
Unfortunately, he woke up.
His eyes fluttered open lethargically, the heavy lids struggling against the weight of slumber that clung to him like a shroud, and his thick blanket clinging onto him like second skin, weighing him down more into the comfort of his nest. Although, it felt more like a trap that was consuming him into nothingness, under the pretense that it was just solace.
Medkit remained still, paralyzed even, despite knowing he had to continue his monotonous routine.
His body felt sluggish and heavy, while his mind was no better. His thoughts began to cloud and fog, unable to think properly, succumbing more into the comfort of his oppressive blanket that forced him to lay still.
The sun gleamed through his blinds, shining right onto Medkit. Although he attempted to toss and turn to ignore the welcoming light that entered his room, he reluctantly sat up, swinging his legs over and off the edge of his nest.
The floor was icy cold against the soles of his feet, a sharp contrast to the comforting warmth of his blanket, which he immediately began to miss.
He stared off into the wall, his mind beginning to fog up again and zone out into nothingness once more.
He shook his head after a couple minutes, reminding himself he had to be at least somewhat productive today.
His weight began to put pressure onto the floor, standing upright and stretching. No going back into the comfort of his nest, no abrogating now.
His first thought was to go to the bathroom, spruce himself up a little. A mundane and comforting thought, since he felt quite disgusting at the quick moment of recognition that he’d been bed-rotting.
He groggily walked over to the bathroom, each step against the soles of his feet icy cold, wincing at continued pressure of each step.
As he placed and turned his hand on the knob of his bathroom door, it creaked open.
Switching the lights on, he quickly shut his eye at the sudden ambush of light that entered, blinding him momentarily. After he adjusted his sight, he faced the mirror,
he was almost shocked to see how his appearance had worsened.
His eye bag sunk further into his skull, this lone factor almost making himself unrecognizable to himself, the demon that was in front of him is what he would easily consider pathetic and disgusting without even a second thought.
That wasn’t the only contributor to his concern; as his eye trailed to the other features of his now frowning face, he noticed that his hair and horns had grown quite a bit.
He used his right hand to probe his horns, jotting how much longer and slender they’ve gotten over the past couple months. Unceasing his observations, he glided his hand over each spike on his teal horns until his fingers grazed the tip.
His face morphed into slight disgust, noting that he should probably trim up a little and file his horns down to a smaller and more uniform size.
Although unplanned, he trailed his hand down to his stitched socket, ghosting over the lid.
He finally placed his hand over one of the stitches.
He moved his hand over the stitches like it was morse code, trying to read something that was written quite long ago.
He observed the cold sensation he felt on his fingertips as he continued to graze over the stitching.
Medkit’s face contorted from his already sad expression to more of a mournful one.
Each stitch he browsed over filled himself with more and more dismay.
The more Medkit conformed to the pattern of stitches across his eye, it allowed his mind to be provoked by the haunting memories of his violent encounter.
For a moment he almost remembered the pain he felt as his eye was torn out from his socket against his will.
His breathing began to quicken at the thought, terrifying him for just a moment.
He pulled his hand away feverishly.
Medkit involuntarily took a step back, becoming something of a deer in headlights. His eye widened, eyebrow being stitched in a way to express such fear he didn’t think he was capable of.
In an unintended act, his back pressed up against his bathroom wall, the sudden contact made him jolt in an unnatural manner.
He choked on his piteous quickened breathing,
his knees buckling, wanting to give out in a moments notice.
The feeling could only be described as suffocating, like the walls in his chest only ever continued to tighten, closing up in an increasingly fast etiquette.
Heart pattering faster and faster, like his ribs were going to burst under the violent way his heart was beating against his chest.
His senses slowly began to fade, being overcome with the deafening sound of his heartbeat.
It filled his ears, and it filled his mind with overbearing dread.
No attempt of grounding himself could save him now, his mind being put under a precarious position that only caused it to mend and break like he was in a hurricane.
The pitiful teal demon under the assumption he would have his life taken from him this time.
In a final attempt of comfort, he slid down the wall and pressed his knees against his chest, wrapping his arms around them like he was embracing a lover in a tight-knit hug.
Although, he hated the thought of being touched, even by the people he held dear to him.
He trembled as he shoved his face into the crook of his knees. Letting out wretched sobs of panic,
and stayed there for a while.
