Work Text:
As Izuku stands outside the front door of his apartment he shares with his mum, Midoriya Inko, he's filled with anxiety and trepidation. What if she treats him differently? What if she's disgusted by him? Quirkless with a mutation. Shaking his thoughts off, Izuku sucks in a deep breath and pushes the front door to the flat open, "Mum? I'm home!" He calls out, closing the door behind him and removing his shoes.
"I'm in the kitchen sweetheart!" Inko calls back. Taking another deep breath, Izuku makes his way to the kitchen, the research that was handed to him by Aizawa Sensei earlier today held carefully in his grip. Entering the kitchen, he places the sheet down onto the countertop carefully. "Mum? I think we need to talk." He murmurs, looking over the sheet of information he'd just placed down.
Wiping her hands down, Inko turns towards her son before her eyes catch the sheet of paper. Heading over, she reads through the information before paling slightly.
- Dragons are attracted to shiny objects, that they usually like to keep within their hoard. However, a dragons hoard is not limited to shiny items, it could be colourful objects or objects that catch their eye that they are interested in.
- Dragons hunt like most predators we know, some dragons will take a stealthy approach, others will attack their prey directly. if it’s small prey like sheep for example dragons will swoop in, and use their talons to grab them and fly away.
- Dragons commonly build nests within caves or dark places and are heavily possessive and if their den or hoard is to be harmed they will attack without warning.
- Dragons likely also have good vision in the dark as they are able to fight within caves and can hunt nocturnally.
- Most dragons are solitary creatures but of they find a mate, they will mate for life and become extremely protective of whoever it is.
Inko stares down at the sheet of paper in shock, evidence that there's a reason behind Izuku's behaviour. His behaviour is the same as Hisashi's, why didn't she realise it? Why did she brush it off?
"Sweetheart." She says softly, cupping Izuku's face within her palms. "I'm so sorry I didn't notice. Your dad acted the same before he had to go to America for work. I'm sorry for not picking up on what was happening to you." Tears fills his mum's eyes and Izuku's own follow. He wraps his mum in a hug, burying his face into the crook of her neck to take in the comfort of her hold. Everything he went through could've been avoided if Inko had realised, but he can't blame her for this.
It's been years since his dad has been around due to how busy he is at work over in America that facts and memories about the individual blur and makes it difficult to remember.
But Inko remembers how her Hisashi took weeks to allow her into his home and how clingy and affectionate he was with her and Izuku when he was a baby. He was very reluctant to go away to America and it took Inko a long time to convince him that the pay was better and he could support the two of them a lot better than way. Even if it hurt her to do so.
"Its okay mama, we know now." He answers into her neck before pulling back. "I'm sorry I was so difficult to raise-" Inko cuts him off by hugging him tighter, "No baby, you weren't difficult, you're my angel, you did nothing wrong."
Maybe telling his mum wasn't so bad after all, at least the two of them can adjust to this world shattering discovery together. Being a quirkless dragon mutation can't be that hard, right? It's just discovering and adjusting to instincts he's had for years and didn't realise until today. Nothing bad will happen. Yeah everything will be okay. Izuku can do this with his mum by his side. Figuring out his instincts and how to not let it harm the people around him shouldn't be too difficult. Right?
