Chapter 1: Prologue: 30 Minutes til the Reaping

Chapter Text

It was a bustling day in the Capitol. Well, it’s always bustling as everyone parades what new designer clothes or accessories they just bought, but it’s even livelier than any other regular day. Of course, this wasn’t any regular day. No, today was July 4th– Reaping Day. Capitol citizens, both old and young alike, crowded together to get a peak at what could be in store for the next two weeks. People make predictions for who will be the tributes this year, which district will come out on top and who will fall under pressure. Those that have resources in different districts praying that this year, one of their tributes will be victorious and bring extra revenue towards their pocket. Rumors have already started circulating about a possible rock arena. Of course, those are just rumors.

However, the simple folk of the Capitol isn’t who we are here for, as a man pushed his way through the crowds, holding onto two cups of coffee. He seemed to be in a hurry as he didn’t stop to apologize for bumping into anyone, instead his eyes remained on his goal ahead of him. After a while, the man had finally left the crowds and arrived at a new building that he quickly entered through the doors. It was sleek and modern, as most buildings in the Capitol are designed. Most of the older buildings were either repurposed for accommodations for the tributes or bulldozed down to make room for the newer buildings. It was a decree President Snow had made when he was newer in office, to no longer be stuck in the past. If you asked the man who was now entering the elevator to go down, he would say it doesn’t make sense, as the Hunger Games itself made the Capitol stuck in the past, but he wasn’t one to go against the president.

As soon as the elevator doors opened, a voice boomed. “Theseus! You are late, once again. Might I remind you what day it is?” The man, now named Theseus, sighs as he hands off one of the cups of coffee to his boss. “Apologies, Ms. Cade. Traffic in the streets, as expected for a day like this.” This caused Ms. Cade rolls her eyes as a smile finds its way on her face, showing she wasn’t too mad at Theseus for his late arrival. Ms. Cade, or Angelica Cade, was one of the leading Gamemakers for the upcoming Hunger Games and was in charge of making sure the tributes had all of their accommodations met in the time before the games. She had tan skin and dark brown hair that was always pulled back into a slick bun, though recently more and more gray hairs could be seen in her signature hairstyle. She wore the slick white uniform that all Gamemakers wore, plus a badge to signify her high ranking. The officer took a sip of her coffee, black with one packet of sugar in it, and started to walk away as Theseus followed after.

The two walked past the Game Room where the majority of the lower and highest ranked Gamemakers were working crunch time to perfect the arena, as well as preparing to change things depending on what tributes were picked. Looking in for a second, Theseus caught a glimpse at what looked like a prototype of a mutt to use. He didn’t have time to dwell on it as they passed the room and continued down the hallway to where they will be spending time for the next weeks ahead of them.

The room looked like a smaller version of the Game Room, only missing the huge consoles that showed the arena. Instead, the room consisted of digital photos of all the confirmed mentors for the upcoming games and ‘ $0’ underneath them, indicating no one has accepted sponsorship money towards their tributes. The price will change soon enough once the Reaping actually starts and those who have district loyalty or found which one is the strongest go to where the citizens bet against each tribute’s odds that will go towards the sponsorship gifts that Angelica’s team will send out to the arena when given the heads up by the mentor. It was a small team, only consisting of twelve people not including Angelica spearheading it. Theseus sat down at his operating area, the faces of the District 4 victors staring back at him. The usual sight for him for this time of year.

“Ooo, Theseus was late again…” A voice calls out to his right, as the person goes and twists a finger around some of Theseus’ hair. Usual behavior, Theseus sighs without taking his eyesight away from his computer. “Fuck off, Decima.” A hearty chuckle sounds out at the comeback as his seat neighbor, Decima, goes back to her screen with the District 10 victors. “Oh, who cares, you bring the boss some coffee and she just forgets about it by the time the day ends.” The man rolls his eyes, not denying anything. In fact, Angelica had actually picked Theseus to be her mentee when he was younger which later secured him his current job. Deep down, he knows that Angelica has a soft spot for him, but he’d rather die than confirm that to anyone else.

A throat clearing brings his and the rest of his team’s attention back to the front, where Angelica stood. She was standing up straight which caused everyone to sit properly, knowing this was important and to show their boss the utmost amount of respect. “In exactly 30 minutes, the reaping will begin with District 1, as usual, being the starting point. From there, we have five minutes between each Reaping to capture each tribute. We want to give all these kids the same amount of screentime for the time being, before everyone lets their true personalities out in the open. Once all twelve Districts have picked their tributes, we will convene and start discussing potential plotlines for the games which I will give to Head Gamemaker, Alvis Eld. Everyone has already been assigned a District for the year, so we have no need to discuss that any further. Use the time before the Reaping to finish up any conversations with the District victors as well as check in on what the sponsoring system is looking like currently. Welcome to the 60th Hunger Games team, and may the odds be ever in your favor.”

Hello everyone, welcome to my fic! In case you need a rundown, this is a Submit Your Own Choices story where the audience will be able to send in an OC to be able to be chosen for the games! Things to note:

-This is NOT first come, first serve. The OC submission form will be open for as long we need it to be open for there to be a OC for every single tribute, so 12 guys and 12 girls. Once we get at least one OC for every tribute position will we move on. That being said, some of the more popular districts might have multiple OCs for the same district. Instead of doing first one to submit for each district gets the role, I will cut accordingly to which OC would better fit the rest of the cast of characters. So it will boil down to who will make more sense in the whole grand scheme of things.

-Anyone new to my account, please note that this story is not on my list of priorities so expect slower updates. To make up for that, expect lot longer chapters for when I do upload. I have another long form CYOA story that is currently the fanfic that will take precedent in updates over this one. In the meantime, you can read that story if you so please! (Titled: Total CYOA Island)

-I expect it to take a while before every single spot for the tributes is filled up, so spread the word! Tell your friends that might be interested in submitting a character! I am always willing to give an update on which spots haven't had any OCs submitted for the districts, just comment and ask. I am also willing to answer any questions you might have in case there's anything I missed or you need clarified on.

If you read all that and decided to submit an OC, here's the form!
