Chapter Text
The sun blooms on the horizon, golden petals stretching ever outwards into the rich blue. Birds chirping in the distance as the wind gusts through the branches of the trees. Osamu woke up bright and early to start getting ready, although his twin had other plans.
“Heya, Rin,” Osamu called as he waved his hand in the air, greeting the brunette. “Sam, you're here,” Rintarou smiled before walking towards the latter. “What took ya so long? I've been waiting for almost an hour.” He rolled his eyes and groaned. “'m sorry, had ta wait for ‘Tsumu 'to finish gettin’ ready.” Osamu chuckled and brought his arms up to Rintarou's shoulder and rested them there.
"Yeah, right,” Rintarou scoffed.
“Stop yer ass from bein’ grumpy at 6 AM in the morning, Rin.” The gray-haired bloke then ruffled the latter's hair, messing it all up. Rintarou lets out an irritated groan before fixing his hair.
“I told ya to stop doing that!”
"Alright, alright, 'm sorry, I'll stop,” Osamu snickered. "C'mon, let's go to class,” he said before grabbing Rintarou's hand and dragging him inside the school.
Fortunately, they had a little free time since their homeroom teacher was going to be late due to a seminar. The classroom became noisy, students chit-chatting with each other left and right while others were blasting music or fighting. Osamu, on the other hand, decided to look out the corridor windows, he let the gentle warm breeze caress his face before inhaling the fresh air.
A couple of minutes later, the door to the room suddenly opened, catching most of the students' attention, including Osamu and Rintarou. It was their homeroom teacher, followed by a brown-haired boy with a unique pair of eyebrows.
Students loudly rushed to their respective seats once they saw who it was. "Students, go back to your seats, please,” Ms. Nakamura said before placing her papers down on the teacher's desk, creating a soft thud noise. Osamu sat down on his chair while his eyes landed on what seemed to be the new student.
Osamu felt two light taps on his thigh, it was from Rintarou, he then looked to his side and mouthed “what is it?” To the latter, “He looks cute” The brunette smirked while he wiggled his eyebrows, trying to tease him, Osamu just sighed. He clearly had enough of Rintarou’s flirtatious schemes.
“Good morning, class. My apologies for being late— the principal unexpectedly scheduled a seminar. But let’s get started. Today, we’re welcoming a new student, Komori Motoya. Komori, would you please introduce yourself?" she said, gesturing for him to begin.
“Good morning, my name is Komori Motoya, 18 years old, and I hope we all can get along, thank you!” Komori stated, a bright smile evident on his face. “Take a seat beside the window, Komori,” Ms. Nakamura directed, pointing to the empty desk next to Osamu. Komori nodded and walked over, his smile never wavering.
As he approached, Osamu felt an inexplicable pull, a vague sense of familiarity that made his heart skip a beat. He exchanged a quick glance with Rintarou, who raised an eyebrow and smirked. “This’ll be interestin’,” Rintarou whispered, and Osamu rolled his eyes.
As Komori settled into his seat, he flashed a friendly grin at Osamu. “Hi there, I’m Komori. Nice to meet ya!”
“Hey, I’m Osamu,” he replied with a polite smile, trying to ignore the flutter of nervousness in his chest. There was something about Komori that felt oddly right, almost like a missing piece clicking into place.
Throughout the day, Komori remained blissfully oblivious to the subtle attempts of both Rintarou and Osamu to catch his attention. During lunch, Rintarou leaned casually against the wall, watching as Komori animatedly chatted with another classmate.
“He’s somethin’, ain’t he?” Rintarou said, nudging Osamu.
“Yeah, he’s got this... energy,” Osamu agreed, a hint of admiration in his voice.
After lunch, Osamu found himself sitting beside Komori in the library. “So, Komori, what d’ya think of the school so far?” he asked, trying to strike up a conversation.
“It’s great! Everyone’s so friendly,” Komori beamed. “What about you? Do you like it here?”
“Yeah, it’s alright,” Osamu shrugged. “Just gotta deal with annoyin’ friends sometimes,” he added, glancing at Rintarou who was pretending to read a book a few tables away.
“Oh, I know how that is,” Komori laughed, completely unaware of the looks exchanged between Rintarou and Osamu.
In the realm of soulmates, the question of what binds souls together has always intrigued us. Some believe it’s a birthmark bearing their soulmate's name, others claim it's a connection through telepathy or a profound empathy that bridges their hearts. In this world, however, it’s a tattoo that tells the tale. At first glance, it might seem straightforward, but there's a twist— when the tattoo starts to fade, it hides from the public eye, revealing the shame of its bearer or the waning love of the soulmate.
That’s what Komori thought when his tattoo never appeared within his line of sight. He had to use a mirror to see the mark, which always settled in a spot he couldn’t directly observe. Two foxes intertwined with each other, slyly hiding from public view, signifying that he had not one, but two soulmates which is a rarity in itself, though not the first time he had seen trios of soulmates.
Komori, ever single and young, had never been the center of attention. He loved his people deeply, but it often hurt to love someone who was always the favorite, the one everyone compared him to. Throughout his life, Komori felt like he was glanced at once and then forgotten. He had been shaped by others' expectations, molded like glass into a form they desired, rather than one he chose for himself. This pain was only magnified when his cousin, Sakusa, defended him. Instead of feeling supported, it served as a reminder of the shadow he always seemed to be in.
His elementary and secondary school life was mostly a blank canvas, untouched by others’ colors— except, perhaps, for the banana yellow splashes from his cousin, who he always accompanied his cousin, who had the exact opposite problem: Kiyoomi was too popular, with too many admirers and too much attention.
Basically, he is what people in the modern generation call— the side character, the NPC of someone else's story, never felt like the protagonist even in his own story because of how his statue looks like transparent glass that has never been seen thoroughly.
Suna Rintarou had always known he was different. From a young age, the intricate tattoo of a fox with a weasel curled around his wrist had marked him as someone special, especially since he was aware he had two soulmates. Growing up in the shadows of the infamous Miya twins, Atsumu and Osamu, Rintarou found his place within their dynamic. Though he was close with both brothers, his bond with Osamu was something deeper, something that felt destined. It was as if the giggling foxes of their tattoos—his on his wrist and Osamu’s chest—were playfully celebrating the connection between their souls.
Rintarou's childhood was filled with laughter, volleyball, and the chaotic energy of the Miyas. Atsumu was the loud, ambitious one, always the speaking one, while Osamu was the quieter, more grounded twin, well, more self-aware, and hiding his chaotic self very well would be more accurate. Rintarou found solace in Osamu's calm demeanor, the way he could balance Atsumu's fire with his own steady presence. They would spend hours together, talking about everything and nothing, finding comfort in each other's company.
Rintarou's life wasn't extraordinary by any means, but it was a good life. He played volleyball, studied, and cherished his moments with Osamu. He didn't crave the spotlight like Atsumu or seek out grand adventures. Instead, he found joy in the small things— Osamu's laughter, the feel of a volleyball in his hands, the quiet moments of understanding that passed between him and his soulmate.
Osamu had a pretty humble beginning. Well, if you consider having a devil of a twin, a single mother, and tons of fighting and volleyball as humbling. Despite all the chaos, Osamu always found solace in the kitchen, cooking away. Being good-looking certainly didn't hurt, but it was his culinary skills that truly set him apart. While Atsumu thrived on the court as the setter, Osamu is there as his twin with a lack-of-passion face spiker for the setter.
Their home was small but filled with love, laughter, and the occasional flying volleyball. Their mother worked tirelessly to provide for them, instilling in them the values of hard work and perseverance. The twins often clashed, but their bond was unbreakable, forged through countless shared experiences and a deep understanding of one another.
Suna Rintarou appeared in Osamu's life during their childhood, blending into their chaotic world seamlessly. The three boys quickly formed a tight-knit group, with Rintarou’s calm demeanor balancing out Atsumu’s fiery personality and Osamu’s quiet strength. It deepened when Osamu discovered that the soulmate tattoo on his chest— one of which depicted a fox and a weasel sitting together, actually was linked to Rintarou. It was a clear sign of his connection with Rintarou, and knowing they were soulmates brought them even closer.
Despite the occasional cough and headache that plagued Osamu— a detail not often mentioned, he remained unfazed and continued living his life with a laid-back-hidden-crazy-attitude. He never let these minor setbacks interfere with his passion for cooking or his deep connections with those he cared about. For Osamu, it was all just part of his normal, everyday life.
Ever since Komori entered the school, both Rintarou and Osamu started getting close to him, feeling a familiar spark that reminded them of how they felt for each other. As the days passed, turning into weeks, both Rintarou and Osamu found themselves drawn to Komori’s genuine and cheerful personality. Despite their attempts to hint at their feelings, Komori remained oblivious, treating them both with equal friendliness. Rintarou and Osamu decided not to push their assumptions, the soulmates' related assumptions, and chose to patiently wait for Komori to realize their intentions.
But as mentioned, the days passed, turning into weeks, and then in one afternoon, Osamu and Rintarou decided to take a more direct approach. They found Komori sitting under a tree in the school courtyard, engrossed in a book.
“Hey, Komori,” Osamu called out, sitting down beside him. Rintarou followed suit, sitting on the other side.
“Hey, guys! What’s up?” Komori smiled, looking up from his book.
“We wanted to talk to you about somethin’,” Rintarou started, his tone more serious than usual.
“Yeah, we're... uh, we're both kinda…into ya,” Osamu said, scratching the back of his head, feeling a bit awkward.
Komori blinked in surprise, his eyes widening. “Oh, I... I didn’t realize...”
“We figured,” Rintarou chuckled. “You’re pretty oblivious.”
Komori’s cheeks turned a light shade of pink. “I’m really flattered, but... I don’t know what to say.”
“You don’t have to say anythin’ right now,” Osamu said gently. “We just wanted ya to know.”
Komori, stared at them eye-widened, only able to nod back at them, feeling warmth bubbling inside him as a small smile played on his lips. “Thank you, guys. I’ll think about it.” Said Komori as he brought his attention back to his book in an attempt to hide his reddening cheeks and small smile.
As they sat together, the afternoon sun casting a warm glow around them, Osamu and Rintarou felt a sense of relief. No matter what happened next, they knew they had at least been honest with their feelings. And that was a good start. That subtle connection Osamu felt from the moment Komori introduced himself hinted at something deeper, a bond that might just be worth exploring.
Rintarou's POV
When Komori entered the room, I was flabbergasted. It’s cliché, but I was sure that it was love at first sight.
Loving Osamu and Komori felt wrong yet so right. People always had opinions about polyamorous relationships, but I couldn't care less. I’ll love them both with all my heart. When Osamu and I confessed to him, it was awkward— of course, it would be when he’d just met us, and all of a sudden, we’re confessing our feelings to him.
As days slowly went by, Osamu and I continued hinting to Komori that we were soulmates. We couldn't ignore the unmistakable signs, the way Komori's actions mirrored those depicted in the weasel tattoos that both Osamu and I bore. It was uncanny how we could see Komori in those tattoos, acting just as he did in real life. Every shared laugh, every lingering glance, every small touch seemed to reaffirm what we already knew deep down.
Our efforts to make Komori fall in love with Osamu and I finally paid off. Slowly but surely, he began to see the connection between us, just as we had always seen it in him.
If love had a name, it would be theirs.
Komori’s POV
Moving away from Tokyo was scary, but I felt it was necessary after being a crutch for my family for 17 years. I decided to move to Hyogo, outside of Tokyo. Inarizaki High had a good volleyball team, which was a plus, and I hoped it would help me change my silent life, and it really did.
Everything changed once I set foot in Inarizaki High. I met two handsome young blokes who would soon become a big part of my life.
Namely, Osamu Miya and Suna Rintarou.
They’d been by my side ever since, and it was strange to have people standing next to me daily who actually focused their attention on me. But for me, it felt... right, maybe because those people were the two blokes I’d come to know.
This wasn’t the only change in my life now that I was at Inarizaki. I could even feel my tattoo start to giggle and snicker at me. Rather than feeling offended, I experienced the opposite. I felt a strange, unexpected happiness that something tied to my bond with the two mischievous foxes was happening.
Was I really experiencing something good for once? Was everything actually going my way? Was it possible that my life wasn’t just revolving around my popular cousin? Or... no, that couldn’t be right. Not with those two lovable idiots— those two handsome himbos!
After spending time with them for weeks, I definitely couldn’t continue denying my feelings. I felt my tattoo start to giggle more and more, and my heart began to beat faster just thinking of the duo. There was no denying it, those two fox giggles were too similar to the duo who liked to cuddle with me on the rooftop of Inarizaki High.
Now it is Friday, and we all decided to have a sleepover at Rintarou's home, I can't help but keep pondering about them, like, I cannot keep it in anymore. I... I decided the day had come. At Rintarou’s home, I would confess my feelings and reveal the soulmate tattoo.
"Pray and tell, they won’t reject me.”
Third person's POV
As the evening of Friday descended upon Rintarou’s tranquil house, Komori, feeling a mix of anticipation and urgency, called out to Osamu and Rintarou. They gathered in the softly lit living room, the air thick with curiosity and expectation. Komori's voice, tinged with excitement, broke the calm as he revealed he had something crucial to disclose, his words hanging in the quiet room, eager for their reaction.
“Samu, Rin, I've got something to tell you,” Komori started as he began to fidget on his chair, slightly feeling nervous.
“What is it, Mori?” Osamu asked, tilting his head a bit, and leaning back on the wall.
“Do you remember what I said when I told you that I'd think about it..?” Komori started, the two immediately knew what he meant and started to lean towards the host man who was about to tell the story that was about to be disclosed, actually making Komori himself blush and even more fumbled than ever.
“Take yer time Mori, we are always here to listen, even if it's bad news,” Osamu said softly as he started moving closer, touching his back as if to comfort the shorter brunette, successfully trying to make the man calm down as he signed.
“I have a mark, a mark that I want to show you!” Komori exclaimed, finally spilling what he wanted to say. Before their eyes, a magical glow began to emanate from Komori’s back. Slowly, a tattoo appeared, intricate and vibrant, depicting two foxes entwined together. The foxes, with their distinctive markings, unmistakably represented Osamu and Rintarou. The realization hit them both at once.
“Is that…?” Rintarou’s voice trailed off, his eyes wide with wonder.
Osamu moved closer, his breath catching in his throat. “Mori, this is…”
Komori nodded, tears of relief and joy welling up in his eyes. “It’s us. We’re soulmates. The tattoo… I have realized they're the two of you, and I knew I had to show you.”
Rintarou gently traced the design with his fingers, feeling the warmth of the connection that bound them. Komori slightly flinched due to the sudden contact, “We’ve been searching for this, for you, without even knowing it. You were here all along.”
A smile formed on Osamu’s face as he wrapped his arms around Komori, pulling him into a tight embrace. “Yer the missin' piece, Mori. We’re complete now.” Rintarou joined the embrace, grinning widely as
he cherished his Soulmates.
It was on Friday, at 5:50 PM, that Komori Motoya, Miya Osamu, and Suna Rintarou became not just a trouple, but soulmates for life.
