Work Text:
Nothing could beat a sweet treat to reward hard work. As an athlete, Aran was careful to not indulge himself too much in desserts since his body required more nutritious food for volleyball. Today, he felt like spoiling himself after practice ended early. *He invited Shinsuke to grab a drink at the bubble tea store that opened two weeks ago. He recalled visiting the place with the Miya twins a few times before and each visit ended with the brothers competing on who can shoot a tapioca ball the furthest with a plastic straw. Safe to say that they were lucky enough to not have been banned yet. Aran was thankful that his childhood friends were currently too busy on another childish competition, this time, on whoever can spike two volleyballs at the same time. Who would even think of such a ridiculous idea?? Aran’s face grimaced in exasperation just thinking about it.
Unlike the twins, Shinsuke was a much calmer company. Aran didn’t have to worry about being dragged into odd shenanigans. After ordering their drinks, the ace observed his boyfriend’s reaction to his first bubble tea, a classic milk tea. The combination of the brew’s softer flavors and the tapioca’s chewiness was a hit among customers.
‘’This is quite sugary. I don’t know how Osamu can drink so many of these.’’
Aran chuckles at the slight frown forming on his boyfriend’s face. As expected, Shinsuke wasn’t a fan of overly sweet treats, but it didn’t hurt to give it a try. The taller boy poked his straw through the plastic film, careful to not spill any of the matcha brew, before taking a sip.
‘’Wanna try mine? I asked for no sugar.’’
Shinsuke thanked him and gently leaned closer to sip from Aran’s drink. His left hand supported the ace’s hand, lowering the cup. At the sight of Shinsuke’s lips wrapped around the straw, a realization came upon the flustered Aran. An indirect kiss!!
The couple shared a few pecks since the start of the relationship, but their affection didn’t rely on physical touch. This was a big deal to Aran. Their hands touching and Shinsuke glancing at him were driving him crazy. He swore he could see a glint of mischief in those pretty brown eyes. The black boy could hear Atsumu’s voice telling him ‘’ Yer way too grown to be actin’ like this ’’. Aran was about to retort instinctively at the imaginary Atsumu, but was pulled out of his thoughts when Shinsuke leaned back with a playful smile.
‘’This one tastes better. I think I’m gonna order it next time.’’
‘’O-oh, sure! There’s plenty of other options ya should try out too.’’
‘’Will it be yer treat?’’
‘’Of course!’’
The captain flashed a soft smile to which the other returned. A comfortable settled between them as they walked out of the store. Shinsuke chuckled to himself, remembering Aran’s priceless reaction. The lingering bitterness of the matcha suddenly felt sweeter on his lips.
Bonus 1:
Poorly disguised with sunglasses and a cap, a familiar blonde setter was spying on the couple waiting in line to order.
‘’Tsumu, yer so nosy. Can’t ya just leave Aran-kun alone?’’
‘’Shuddup ‘Samu! Yer the same anyway. Why would ya even follow me?’’
‘’They got a special litchi drink on the menu. I wanna try it.’’
‘’Of course, yer hungry ass would.’’
Atsumu yelped when his twin kicked his shin. As he was about to fight back, he glanced at Aran and Shinsuke holding hands..??
‘’Samu, Aran-kun is dating Kita? They’re bein’ all lovey dovey! Gross!!’’
‘’Yer the only who didn’t know about it, idiot.’’
Bonus 2: What they ordered
Kita: Milk tea, regular sugar with no ice. A good starter choice recommended by veteran boba drinkers
Aran: Matcha brew, no sugar and no ice. A drink for people with more refined palate or those who want to look fancy. The bitterness of the matcha goes quite well with the sweet tapioca balls.
Atsumu: Mango green tea with cheese foam and custard pudding toppings, less sugar, no ice, pudding. The cheese foam may seem strange, but it is a nice sweet and salty milk foam complementing the sweeter brew.
Osamu: Litchi fruit tea with grass jelly, regular sugar, no ice. A refreshing drink perfect for warm weather !
