Sometimes the Fade forms itself into a beach and still she cannot reach Solas. "You don't have to do this!" she screams, repeating herself, the salt on her tongue. He is a fierce unyielding wall, a wolf staring at her in silence. The ice blue eyes seem sad. "I could have loved you! I still do, as my brother! Come back to us!"
Solas's voice shakes the beach and nearly knocks Lily off her feet. "I cannot. Give up your search, Inquisitor."
Lily laughs sarcastically, pushes a strand of brown hair behind her ear. "I'm as stubborn as you, though I'm in my forties now. Don't you see this world is worth saving? You'll hurt more people than you'll save."
"All people do is die!" Solas fires back in her head, eyes on the sea. "Can't you see that I must do this?"
"Solas, there is always a better way! There was a time that all I wanted was to make you smile!" There are tears on her cheeks. "You should've been at my elopement! You should've had drinks with Dorian! Why must it be this way?"
"You are my dearest friend, but those are questions I cannot answer. Leave me."
"No! This world is worth saving."
There are tears in his black fur. "Leave me!"
Linton, her mabari, licks her face as she wakes sobbing. Cullen pulls her close again without a word.
