Chapter Text
It was the day to return home with her beloved husband Mr.Wolf. For them, the best experience they have had, from enjoying the best beaches they have ever seen, seeing historical sites and many more.
The plane lands at the international airport without delays while the wheels of the landing gear touch American soil. Already on the conveyor belt and already past immigration, with their heavy backpacks, holding hands, finishing with her best friends with their suitcases, leaving with happiness having returned home to begin her new adventures again.
-Uff, finally at home!- said the gray canine walking with her through the exit door
-What a shame we would have enjoyed more time there. But well, work calls me- says Diane
-When we have a family or when we are free from work we can discover new horizons-
-Hopefully. Wait! I think I'm going to...-
Diane raises her arm towards her husband but he takes head and she faints in front of everyone, some gasp and others who had their cell phones recording from receiving their loved ones point towards Diane fallen on the ground making Wolf get scared and move her body to see if she would respond. Fortunately, a couple of paramedics were there and attended to the emergency, checking her for a pulse and whether she had one. Then they use a compact flashlight to open her eyes if her pupils react.
-Uhhhh, w-wh-what just happened?-
-You just had a faint, governor. But he's fine now. Just allow us to take her to our ambulance for some checks-
-No guys, I'm ok, for real I don't need more checks here-
-Ok if you say so, governor. You good to go-
-My love. You scared me-
-I'm so sorry, honey. It wasn't my intention-
-It's ok, babe. Let's rest
About 3 days later, Diane went back to the office as usual, only this time, she felt groggy. She had a hard time getting up that morning, she didn't know why this time, she just figured some coffee will do the trick. Diane walked along side with her secretary, Samantha crawled up to her shoulder with a tablet in her hands. They may still be doing a little thieving now and again, but a beach house isn't cheap.
"What's on today's schedule, Sam?" Diane asked the young woman while taking a sip from her mug.
"You have a meeting at 1:30 with Luggins about those police reports, then a meeting with that school superintendent at 3:45 about getting a construction permit so they can rebuild the run down high school and you need to review the new state policies." Samantha replied while scrolling through her miniature tablet.
"Excellent. Pretty easy day." Diane said. "Especially after how sick I've been feeling lately." She mumbled to herself.
"What?" Samantha asked.
"It's nothing." Diane answered.
She then immediately felt waves of nausea as she bent over and placed one of her paws on her knees, as to not lose her balance.
"Diane, you okay?" Tarantula asked as Piranha rushed over to her side.
-Yeah, it's nothing...- Diane assured. -I think...I think I'm just working too hard...-
Diane had been having this pain for quite awhile, though she was able to hide it for a few days since it didn't happen too often, but now it's starting to get frequent. Her head hurts, her stomach hurts, her whole body felt like it was in a catastrophic amount of pain. She couldn't even find enough energy to move and on top of all that, she was starving despite eating what felt like a nine course buffet thirty-minutes ago.
-You sure?- the janitor asked when he was passing through the hall.
-Absolutely- Diane replied. -There is nothing wrong with me, I'm perfectly fi...fi...fi...-
Diane ran to the nearest restroom fast as she can.Once the door was closed, sounds of gagging and hurling can be heard as Samantha walked over and knocked on the door.
"You sure you're not coming down with anything?" She asked.
"Pretty sure. I probably ate something that didn't agree with me this morning..." Diane answered from behind the door.
"We still think you should see a doctor. Food poising is also pretty serious." Piranha said.
"I'm fine guys, really." Diane said.
Samantha, who was still not convinced, decided to give Wolf a call and tell her what happened. Obviously Wolf knows her since he went to visit Diane's office a long time ago.
Later that evening, as the three returned home, Wolf was at the front door as he quickly took Diane into his arms, Shark soon followed behind.
"Diane!" Wolf shouted, startling her. "Samantha called me and told me what happened, is everything okay?" He asked holding his wife close to his body.
"What?" She's asked.
"You threw up in the bathroom today, are you sick? Please tell me if you are sick! I don't like the idea of my wife getting sick!" Wolf panicked a little.
Diane sighed. Of course something like this would happen.
"I'm fine. Maybe I just ate a bad breakfast. It's no big deal." Diane said.
"You sure you're okay?" Asked Wolf.
"Yeah, we think you should see a doctor about this. You've been getting groggy lately, don't think I didn't notice." Webs suggested being in the couch of the house.
"I agree with Wolf and Tarantula, it might be serious." Shark said.
"We're just looking out for you." Piranha added.
"I honestly don't care...you should still see a doctor though or whatever." Snake shouted from the other room while keeping his eyes on the tv.
Diane felt like she was being cornered against a wall, she didn't like it. Piranha then placed his hand on Diane to comfort her and before she even knew what she was doing, Diane aggressively pushed him away, knocking Piranha off his feet and on his butt.
"I said I'm okay! Now would you all just shut up?! I don't need any of you to tell me what to do!" Diane furiously shouted.
Everyone was stunned, even Snake looked away from the tv to see what had happened.
Diane then regained her sanity and saw that everyone looking at her with fear. It hurt her a little, since those stares reminded her of an elementary school fight she got into once after a kid constantly bullied her and called her a 'shifty fox.' Piranha was on the brink of tears before Tarantula wandered over to her friend, trying to comfort him. At first, Piranha was a little surprised by the gesture but after a moment, he came to realize that he liked the feeling of someone taking care of him. Especially if it was his arachnid companion.
"I-I'm really sorry about my outburst..." Diane apologized to everyone. "I'm going to bed..."
Diane then made her way upstairs as Wolf followed her.
"I'll go talk to her." Wolf told everyone.
He made it to his room to see that Diane was on their bed, crying to herself. Diane looked up to notice her husband had entered the room.
"Don't say anything Wolf, I want to be alone right now..." she told him.
Wolf walked over to her, not saying anything.
"I meant it Wolf! You try anything... I swear I will judo chop your neck!" Diane said.
Wolf continued to not say anything as he now sat on the bed with her.
"You have three seconds to leave!" Diane warned him.
He then hugged her, which caught her off guard a little but damn, if she didn't need one right about now.
"Better?" Wolf asked.
"Yeah, I guess..." Diane said.
"Everything alright?" Wolf asked. "You seemed pretty shook up after that outburst."
Diane sighed, she told him about her past memories
"I'm sorry to hear that." Wolf said.
"It's okay..." she assured him.
They were silent for a moment.
"I'll go see a doctor first thing tomorrow." Diane told him, still feeling bad for yelling at her friends who were just trying to help out.
"You do that..." Wolf comforted her. "You want to be left alone now or...?"
"No." She answered. "I want my husband to stay with me."
Wolf chuckled as he happily obliged and continued holding her for the rest of the night.
Tomorrow came and Diane entered the doctor's office called Dr. Phillip White, a prominent gynecologist with more than 30 years of experience about to retire and Diane is considered his last and special client.
-Doc?- says Diane opening the door
-Hello, Governor Diane. How you doing?-
-I'm good thank you, and you?-
-I'm great, excited to retire soon to have fun with my grandsons-
-Aww, that's cute-
-Yeah, anyway. Let me check you right now
A couple of minutes later, Phillip finished checking her vital signs and ears. He proceeds with a test of questions
-So, Diane. Have you had dizziness and vomiting lately in the last 2 weeks-
-Yes, it's strange. I was feeling full of energy before arriving from my honeymoon just when I fainted there although I remember that I was in Tokyo and I was having a wine and it made me feel bad and I vomited in the restroom-
-Ok-
-I think for me it must be something wrong with my stomach. That's why I'm here to make sure that maybe it's not that I have a puppy now-
-Very good. For me these symptoms are very common in pregnant women. Let's do something, I give you this pregnancy test, do it in the restroom outside and take your time when you have the results ready with me to print it for you.
Diane nervously takes the pregnancy sample that he gives her and goes to the restroom to take her privacy and proceeds to do the steps that he indicated. She closes her eyes as she sits on the toilet, worried, believing that the result would be negative but, oh surprise.
The result is positive and she gasps, covering her lips with her left hand while holding the pregnancy test with her right hand and It fills a lot of questions in your head. Never in her life has she had these types of surprises, although she begins to remember that she loves the children who came up to her to hug her and to say funny and sweet things to her on her visits to kindergartens, schools, hospitals and orphanages.
Finally she fills up her courage and goes to the gynecologist with the sample and the doctor verifies it with a machine and prints the result.
-Isn't it wonderful, Diane?! You're going to be a mom! ...Diane? (Sigh) Can I tell you something, governor?-
-Yes, go ahead. It's just that I don't have any words to express this news-
-I know it is difficult for you to be a mother in this position, but I want you to know that you are going to be a beautiful mother for your puppy. In all this time that I have been caring for mothers, they always have my trust and support, not only from me but also from their husbands. -
-Really?-
-Of course, Diane. Being a mother is the most beautiful thing in life. All our mothers are always protective, playful, funny and always, above all, powerful... Now I'm going to give you a couple of things before you leave - Phillip says those words, taking out a pen and a piece of paper writing down a couple of requirements. what she has to do.
The list said the following:*Do not consume red meat*Remove piercing immediately from her left eyebrow as it creates a risk in pregnancy*Consume fruits, shellfish, soy products and seeds
Diane takes carefully the paper she receives along with a folder with her results attached and she shakes his hand goodbye and she opens the office door and closes it. An hour later, Diane is in a nearby shopping center entering a baby goods store and she sighs before entering. Inside, she looks around her seeing products of different sizes such as diapers, clothes, cribs, toys and bottles of different styles. She runs desperately without being seen, hiding in an aisle where clothes for newborns were sold and when she turns around she finds a beautiful phrase to be the best gift for her beloved husband.
'The best dad in the world'
She holds the shirt making His eyes shine and he immediately takes him to the cash register. A young university student was organizing the money when Diane approaches
-Very good afternoon, governor-
-Good afternoon- Diane answered giving the small dressto pay
-Looks like your friend will be super happy to have a baby- says the girl without realizing that Diane is waiting for a puppy in her belly
-Yeah, I hope so- she said while paying with her debit card to her
-Do you want the bag as a gift?-
-Yes, please- she says receiving the well-packaged gift and leaves over there
Later in the house as she held a small gift box under one of her arms. She took a deep breath as she mentally prepared herself for what she had learned today putting the box on the bed and she starts recordin. The second she opened the door, she was instantly hugged by Wolf.
"Diane!" Wolf said as he rushed over to her. "Are you okay?"
"Yes. I went to the doctor today, like I promised." Diane said.
"It's nothing serious, right?" Wolf asked, with complete concern.
"Yes. It's serious, but in a good way." Diane told him.
