Day 6: Mirror

Summary:

She was impulsive, eager to please, stubborn, obsessive…

Just like he had been.

Notes:

This is Day 6 of my entries for TES Summerfest 2024 on Tumblr! My other entries can be found in my personal collection.

Notes from Tumblr: More Miraak propaganda. And we get to hear Adri's proper name and not her nickname! I've been planning and Adri and Miraak fic for a while, and it has been fun to write little bits of them.

Work Text:

The peak was strangely calm in spite of the icy winds that battered them during the climb. Not that the cold bothered him, Skyrim was far warmer than it had been in his youth. It clearly affected Her , though she tried to hide it. The little dragon sat opposite him across the expanse of the flattened peak, huddled against the ancient word wall under the watchful and… doting gaze of -

“Paarthurnax?” she blinked up from her ‘meditation.’ The ancient killer leaned closer, blocking off the rest of her words from his ears. Why did she bring him here ?

Miraak had been asking himself that question since she ripped him from Apocrypha.

The self righteous little creature clearly had little sense of self preservation. Mora would be hunting them for the rest of their lives. He couldn’t understand why she would willingly live like this. She was impulsive, eager to please, stubborn, obsessive…

Just like he had been.

He stood silently under the eyes of the Dragons that surrounded them. Ancient enemies, locked in begrudging acceptance of each other's presence. Neither side dared to invoke the little dragon’s fury. Odahviing in particular refused to look away from him. She had done everything he had refused, everything they would have destroyed him for. Yet they revered her for it.

Icy blue eyes turned towards him, a small smile pulled at the corners of her mouth. The hand she had gripped as they tumbled from Apocrypha closed at his side. The rough surface of the rock he’d been leaning against was suddenly sharp against his back.

Why?

The reflection of everything he could have been walked towards him, completely unbothered by her surroundings. Save a slight shiver that ran along her jaw.

“We’re setting up camp here tonight. I think we both need the quiet.”

“If that is your will, Adrimk.” She let out a small laugh at his formality.

“You’re allowed to call me ‘Adri’, Miraak.” In spite of their ice, her eyes radiated a warmth he hadn’t seen in centuries.

“I know.”

“You and Paarthurnax should take some time to talk.” She glanced back at the ancient dragon behind her.

“As you wish, Adri.”
