Chapter Text
Kaeloo relaxed on the couch with a glass of iced lemonade, sweat dripping down her forehead. Her heart rate was beginning to return to normal, and her breathing was slowing down again. Next to her was Mr. Cat, covered in bandages. The painkillers had taken effect, so he was curled up, sleeping peacefully. His adorable sleeping face made her heart melt, but a wave of mixed emotions washed over her. She had specifically asked her friends to keep things calm and peaceful because it was the hottest day of summer, and as a cold-blooded animal she’d need to avoid overheating, but he’d deliberately gone out of his way to hurt Quack Quack, cause vast amounts of damage to the surrounding area, and make mean-spirited jokes about her, with the usual results, leading to their current situation. And that made her angry. On the other hand, she knew that he did care about her; he’d gone out of his way to make sure she was alright several times, laughed and joked with her, and been a shoulder for her to cry on. So of course, she was very conflicted; should she be mad at him or not? Kaeloo wondered to herself; Mr. Cat was actually a very sweet person once you got to know him, so why was he so mean?
Having gotten to the bottom of her glass of lemonade, Kaeloo noticed that the straw was beginning to make loud slurping sounds, so she got up and walked away since Mr. Cat was sleeping and she was considerate of the people around her, unlike some people - oh no, she was doing it again, wasn’t she? She simultaneously felt mad at him and didn’t, and she didn’t know what to do about it. She decided to take her mind off of things with a little gardening. Gardening always helped Kaeloo relax. She went to her garden and saw that one of the seeds she’d planted recently had become a seedling. Well, now her mood was certainly improving. As she walked towards the seedling to observe it, a burst of light appeared before her with a poof of smoke. Looking up, she noticed that it was Stumpy’s fairies, Rhonda and Alice.
“Oh, hello, fairies!” she greeted the sisters cheerfully.
“Hi there!” chirped Rhonda.
“You again?” Alice asked, dismayed.
“Oh, right! You’re friends with that poor child whom we messed up by accident!” Rhonda remembered.
Upon hearing the words “messed up” and “child” in the same sentence, Kaeloo had an idea.
“Is there any way I can meet a specific person’s fairies?” she inquired.
“Well -” Alice began, only to be cut off by her sister.
“Yes, of course!” Rhonda waved her wand and a rather large book appeared.
“Oh, what a pretty book!” Kaeloo exclaimed, her eyes fixated on the fancy gold lettering on the cover.
“It’s a directory of fairies and the children whose traits they determined,” Alice clarified.
Kaeloo grasped the book in her hands and opened it. The book was organized by date of birth and name, so Kaeloo had no trouble finding Mr. Cat’s fairies.
“Greta and Eleanor…” she read out loud to nobody in particular.
“Oh, we know them!” Rhonda piped up.
“Is there a way I can meet them?” she asked.
“Sure, they’ll be in Smileyland tomorrow morning at 6:00 am to decide the traits of some tree saplings,” Alice revealed. Kaeloo knew exactly where tree saplings grew in Smileyland, being its caretaker.
“Oh, thank you!” Kaeloo said, beaming brightly.
