“Thanks, again, for.. Giving me a ride.”
Hyperlaser’s voice beneath the mask was breathy. His tone was rough. Medkit could hear the unease on his tongue, and he knew he felt the very same feeling of anxiety where it pooled in his gut.
“It’s no problem.” He rasped, hands shaky against the wheel of his sedan. A bath of sweat had developed beneath his palms, and all he could think about were the day’s previous events.
Blackrock had refused to escort Hyperlaser home after filming the last Phight of the season. It was a sudden, strange occurrence, one that had put the entire cast on edge.
So Medkit offered Hyperlaser a ride to the border.
It was a dangerous job, despite how simple it was. Medkit didn’t like Hyperlaser’s massive, bulky helmet of metal inside his vehicle. It was far too recognizable, especially now.
“But I don’t wanna hit the border and get seen with you.”
“Then don’t.” Hyperlaser rasped. Beneath the helmet, Medkit heard him let out a harsh breath of air.
“What d’ya mean?” Medkit asked back, his hands gliding across the wheel as he turned the car.
“Stop here. We’re not too far.”
Medkit slowed the car, narrowing his eyes.
“You can’t just walk the rest of the way. That’s ridiculous.”
Hyperlaser turned his head towards Medkit and softly reached over to place his hand over his thigh.
“I’ve crossed this border hundreds of times. I know what I’m doing.”
Medkit swallowed, having done the same.
“You never know what they’ll come up with. Blackrock, that is.”
“I know what I’m doing and I don’t wanna put you in harm's way.” Hyperlaser affirmed.
Medkit paused at the decision. For a moment, he contemplated making a comment, but refrained.
“Alright. Fine. Get out.”
As the car pulled to a stop, Medkit bit the inside of his cheek and forced himself to exit the car. Trudging on open earth, dirt scorning his shoes, he made his way around to the other side of the vehicle to meet his partner.
Hyperlaser stood with his hands wrapped around his head. Quietly, he removed his mask and let it hang at his side.
“I’m scared for you.” Medkit began as he walked up to Hyperlaser. It was upon cupping Hyperlaser’s cheeks in his palms that he realised his hands had been violently shaky, and they tensed against Hyperlaser’s rough skin.
Medkit found himself pausing to catch his balance as Hyperlaser slowly stilled, narrowing his blind blue eyes and letting his fingers slide his partner’s sun-freckled arms.
Medkit swallowed at the touch.
“You’ll be safe, right? You’re sure you’ll be safe?”
Medkit closed his eyes and stood still for a moment, feeling the way the skin of Hyperlaser’s forehead and the bridge of his nose fell against Medkit’s own face. Hyperlaser’s hands scoured the other, fingers coming up to nestle in Medkit’s long hair. He picked at the loose tie keeping Medkit’s locks strung together, and Medkit sighed as he felt his hand settle against the ridge of his scalp.
“Hyperlaser.” Medkit hesitated after a while of soft touches.
“..Mhm.”
“You’ll come back to me then, too.”
“I will.”
Medkit exhaled a breath of air he hadn’t realised he’d been holding in. He felt it brush against the skin of Hyperlaser’s cheek, and like that, Hyperlaser tilted his head forward to let his lips sink against Medkit’s.
It came as a slight surprise, the way Hyperlaser so forwardly came to kiss him. But as he felt the man’s warm breath and hungered lips, he came to realise he’d been longing to feel Hyperlaser on him like this for far too long, anyway.
Wrapping his arms around Hyperlaser, Medkit leaned forward to press the man back against the car. Hyperlaser’s hands continued to ride upwards, further tangling in Medkit’s messy head of hair. In repeated motions, their lips pressed together, Hyperlaser soon taking Medkit’s bottom lip between his teeth. Medkit gave a slight chuckle, between more kisses and even more moments of catching his breath. Hyperlaser only pulled closer, sinking further into Medkit’s grasp, clinging to his partner’s body. Medkit found himself smiling into the kiss, and felt his heart pump faster when he felt Hyperlaser’s lips upturn as well.
For a while, they continued to spoon each other back into the car, rough breaths filling the quiet forest air just as loud as the sound of soft, sun-kissed skin tensing against each other. After another moment, Medkit felt his fingers climb down the hem of Hyperlaser’s thick-fabric uniform, his hand balling tight around the cloth. He didn’t want to ever let go, but soon, they both found themselves pulling away from each other. Sickened by the heat, Medkit took another nauseous breath of air, and pressed himself closer to Hyperlaser’s chest.
“I love you.” He uttered, the words so close and so warm against Hyperlaser’s lips he could feel them himself.
“I really do.”
“I love you too.” Hyperlaser whispered back, so quiet his voice was barely audible beneath the breeze. For a few long moments, with the bridges of their noses interlocked, they held each other close.
“Okay.” Medkit swallowed, pressing another kiss to his cheek. “Okay.. Be safe then. I’ll see you here in..”
“Three days?” Hyperlaser offered.
“Three days. Okay.”
Hyperlaser tilted his head up to kiss Medkit’s forehead.
“Goodbye then.”
“Okay. Goodbye.”
