Chapter Text
It was just a perfect day at camp half-blood, Percy had decided it would be just perfect. Only the best for his girl, it was after all their 3- year anniversary. Percy stood in awe, The demeter cabin really outdid themselves, the strawberry fields were in full bloom, and in the middle was a blue blanket. It was just perfect!
“Good afternoon Percy, what is this?” a voice called out, percy flipped around. Sure enough there was annabeth. Her golden locks were pulled up into a perfect ponytail. She looked just dazzling. It then came to percy attention what was happening.
“Woah, no no no” Percy pushes Annabeth back down the hill.
“You can’t be here yet? Where’s Leo he was supposed to be watching you?” Percy cried, Annabeth stepped back and crossed her arms.
“You wanna run that back through your seaweed brain, one more time?” She warned. Maybe leaving Leo in charge of distracting Annabeth was not the best idea.
“Did he tell you?” Percy sighed as Annabeth nodded.
The date went splendid, even if it wasn’t a surprise. But it sadly wasn’t as perfect as percy wanted. Annabeth was bent over laughing, as Percy had gotten a PB&J stuck in her hair and was failing to get it out.
“If you stopped laughing, this would be much easier!” percy pointed out, only for the blonde to laugh even harder.
“Am I interrupting something?” a voice spoke out, Percy and Annabeth twisted to see an older gentleman. You would first think he was an elderly human, but his suit was infused with tidal waves and coral reefs wrapped around the cuffs and collar. His hair had been black, but it now was washed out to mostly gray. The man was also using a cane, leaning forward on it awkwardly. “I'm very sorry, if I am” The man's voice sounded rough, as if each breath brought him pain.
“No you're not interrupting, what did you need?” Annabeth was the first to answer, sitting up properly. She motioned for him to come sit with them. It took several minutes but the man was able to sit down.
“My name is Starlight, I’m looking for Prince Perseus. I need to tell you something” Annabeth smiled at him, and lent out a hand towards him. Her eye’s reached mine, they said two words
Say something
Percy suddenly remember that meant him,
“Well I’m right here” the man's eyes seemed to soften looking at him.
“You remind me of her, Your eye’s there…nevermind. I've heard that you can.. Well they say you can influence the gods decisions” Percy must have shown his confusion because the old man left out a hearty laugh.
“I mean, you are a very direct gentleman and the gods listen to you” Annabeth smiled at the comment, before teasing
“That’s one name for it”
“I’m a mermaid from the northern sea, I might have lied to Prince Triton on my reason for having to leave the water” He declared, Every bone in Percy's body froze. Triton had been training him about the rules of the sea. One of the rules he easily remembered was that it was treason to lie to a royal member.
“Do you realize telling me this could lead to your death?” Annabeth’s face froze at percy words. She cocked her eyebrow at him. The old man just shrugged
“I’m already heading there my prince, i’ve been alive long enough” He sighed. Whatever starlight needed to tell Percy, had to be serious as why else would he risk his life to tell him.
“Before my time is up, I need to know she won’t be forgotten. What the gods did to her was unforgivable and must be known. They act like their innocent and kind rulers, when they..” Starlight seemed to get choked up, at his own thoughts. Percy bent over to rest his hand on Starlight’s.
“Who did they hurt?” Annabeth demanded. Starlight faltered, but choked it out
“Zoey Aue, your sister.” Starlight’s words left Percy speechless, he just stared at Starlight as the old man seemed to crumble in on himself.
“Starlight, when did it happen? Was she a demigod? Where is she?” Annabeth insisted, Starlight mumbled back to her, but Percy was left frozen in place.
“She went long, long ago, yes! A demigod just a kid. Trapped in that god-forsaken Urn! She needs help…No one will remember!” Starlight cried out, but suddenly his eyes grew wide. They watched as he slowly crumbled to the ground. Leaving Triton behind him, with his trident left crimson.
“Triton!! How could you?!” Percy shot up, ready to tackle his brother. Triton’s eye slowly lifted from Starlight towards the two demigods.
“Leave it, Perseus you don’t understand” Triton declared, he stepped down and lifted Starlight’s dead body onto his shoulders. He pushed past the demigods.
“Who was Zoey Aue?” Annabeth roared, Triton stopped in his tracks.
“You don’t understand the secrets you're digging up here, best to leave them be” his voice replied. Just as he blinked away. Leaving Percy and Annabeth with many questions. It was so sad to see Starlight die, as he was a dear friend of mine but sometimes to fix a problem you need to make sacrifices. I’ve waited many years to make my return. I just need to let these two special demigods get the ball rolling. Don’t worry Selene, I’m still coming for you.
