Chapter Text
"Mooom, why do I have to go here again??"
The Collector was not amused. She has been homeschooled for the last ten years, why does she have to go to school now?
"Because it’s time for you to make some friends honey. Your father and I are worried that-"
She got cut off by The Collector, who was pouting.
"Yeah, I know, you're worried, mimimi, make some friends, blahblah. But I’m 15 already, I doubt I can make friends as the new kid with a literal moon face!"
They pointed to their face, which really resembled a half-moon, with the two different colors it had. The star-sprinkled clothing only emphasized that more, but The Collector (or, how her parents called her, Collie) refused to wear the school uniform. She brushed it off as boring, and Principal Bump couldn’t really force her, her parents being some kind of space-ish gods. No one really understood what they are, but Bump didn't want to take any risks, so he allowed her regular clothes.
Their mother sighed.
„I’m sure you’ll have no issues with applying yourself sweetie. And if not, your father and I can always just choose your friends for you. I was planning to get a look at all the classy parents anyways. “
They stopped at the school gate and Collie’s mother turned to them.
„I’ll go and have a talk with the principle about that now. You go and have fun in… What did you choose for classes again? “
„Abominations, Plants and Illusion. It’s not that hard to remember mom. “
Collie let out a grunt as her mom patted her head.
„Whatever you say honey. Bye! “
With that, Collie’s mom walked off, leaving her to herself.
"Honestly, why even bring me here in the first place if you're just gonna leave me at the gate? Now I have to do the welcoming stuff alone... Great. Just fucking say so if you accompanied me just to flaunt your power."
Collie groaned one last time before entering the school gate, already pissed off enough for the whole day. It was their first day and their mom had nothing better to do than thinking about the ties and connections she could make. If she knew that it would play out like this, she would’ve never agreed to going to an actual school. Her parents were already being mean enough about her missing power, she didn’t need others to know as well…
Their thoughts got cut off by a plummy sounding voice that echoed across the front court of the school. They turned around to see a triclops girl with pink hair and a yellow uniform, accompanied by a black skinned girl with grey hair and a red uniform. It had been the pink-haired girl who spoke, and Collie immediately recognized the higher-class attitude she’s used to from her parents.
“Hey you, over there! You don’t look like you belong here, now do you?”
The two girls came closer to get a better look at The Collector. As they approached her, the triclops pointed at Collie’s unusual face.
“Skara, look at this weirdo! Is that a half-moon? What are you doing here, Moonface? I doubt someone with this lack of style would get accepted into Hexside.”
She circled them, grinning devilishly. Collie could feel a shiver running down her spine as she realized she must’ve run into the school’s Queen Bee. Typical, of course they must run into any possible trouble. I should’ve just stayed at home…
“Boscha! Leave them alone, they didn’t do anything to you!”
Collie turned her head as she heard a new voice, which belonged to a Latina with a multi-colored uniform. As the girl approached the scene, Collie noticed that she had round ears. A human? she thought. She had learned a little bit about them, but no more than the basics. After all, she shouldn’t come in contact with the “lower lifeforms”, no, she was “too good” for that. But she called the triclops girl “Boscha”. That must be her name then. And the other one was… Skara?
Boscha laughed scornfully as the human appeared and positioned herself between Collie and the two bullies.
“Oh, look who’s here! The human.” Boscha practically spitted the word “human” out, like it was some kind of disgraceful thing which brought disgust to her mind just by thinking it. “Think you can play hero and save this loser here?” She turned to Collie again. “Seriously, what even are you?”
The Latina pulled out little papers with weird symbols on them, and a look of grim determination appeared on her face. Collie could see that she wasn’t playing around. Though they wondered how a human could be able to stand up to two witchlings.
“I said, fuck off Boscha.”
She glared at the two other girls, holding up the papers. The look of superiority on Boscha’s face only slightly crumbled, but Skara seemed to be intimidated enough and tugged at the pink-haired girl’s sleeve.
“Come on Boscha, we should go.”
At last, Boscha resigned and left with Skara, but not without shooting a glare back at the human.
“This isn’t over yet, human. You’re gonna pay for this.”
Collie watched with a frightened look as the bullies left. She was one hundred percent sure that she would be seeing them again, and next time she wouldn’t have as much luck. Just as she thought that, the human turned around to her, the glare replaced by a friendly and cheerful smile.
“Hi! My name’s Luz. And who are you?”
