New beginnings

Summary:

Kara and Lena bump into each other one night.

Chapter 1: Chances of Fate

Chapter Text

Kara Danvers was tired. The type of exhaustion that went beyond physical strain and seeped into the soul. Between battling alien invaders and managing her dual life as Kara Danvers, reporter, it felt like there were never enough hours in the day. But tonight was different. As she walked through the dimly lit streets of National City on her way home, the crisp air felt refreshing, almost as if it were clearing her mind of the clutter accumulated over weeks.

She turned a corner and nearly collided with Lena Luthor. The sight of Lena always caused a curious mix of emotions for Kara—admiration, frustration, and something unspoken but undeniable. Lena's sharp blue eyes softened in recognition as they locked onto Kara's.

"Kara," Lena greeted with a smile that had become more familiar and comforting over the months. "Fancy meeting you here."

Kara returned the smile, albeit tiredly. "Lena. I was just heading home, but it seems like you’ve got other plans."

"Actually, I was on my way to meet a friend for dinner," Lena said, her tone casual but her eyes betraying a hint of curiosity. "But I could use some company if you're up for it?"

Kara’s instinct was to refuse, to head home and collapse onto her couch, but something in Lena's voice made her pause. "Sure. Why not?"

The two women walked together to a nearby bistro. The conversation started off easy, flowing with anecdotes and laughter that felt almost therapeutic for Kara. Lena's insights into the world of high society and technology were always fascinating, and Kara found herself engrossed in their discussion.

As they finished their meals, Lena leaned forward slightly, her expression growing more serious. "You know, Kara, I always wondered how you manage it all—being Supergirl and Kara Danvers. It must be exhausting."

Kara’s eyes met Lena's, and she found herself opening up in a way she rarely did. "It is. Sometimes I feel like I'm barely keeping it together. But it's worth it. The city needs Supergirl, and Kara needs to keep going for her own sanity."

Lena nodded, her gaze contemplative. "I understand. I’ve faced my own battles, though they’re less about saving the world and more about trying to prove I’m not my family’s mistakes."

Kara reached across the table, her hand lightly brushing Lena’s. "You’re not. You’ve shown that you’re different, that you have your own path."

The touch lingered longer than intended, a silent exchange of understanding and empathy. Lena’s eyes held a depth that spoke of unspoken feelings and a shared sense of vulnerability.
