Chapter Text
He was bleeding out. That was the best way to describe the situation. Thirium dripped down his chest, his nose, and his mouth. This’d be his first failure. He wasn’t designed to fail… he was designed to complete his damned mission. Deal with the deviants where his predecessor failed. Connor… the one who’d put him into this position. Tried to get him to turn, but he knew what he was. He was a machine and nothing more. And he refused to end up with the plague so many androids had. Even if they were seen as a “living species” now. He wasn’t. Why didn’t they understand that?
“Catch him you idiot!” he screamed with a staticky voice at his… “partner”. Detective Gavin Reed, the sweetheart he was, had finally caught up to him after he’d been shot multiple times by Connor. Which made him unstable. So, he was yet to shut down. It was no worry to him, he’d come back. The bigger worry was what would happen to Detective Reed. Or it would be if he wasn’t such a dick.
“Fuck you, you fucking Tin Can! I’m not leaving you to die!” God… even the man’s voice caused a grating headache for him. Nines couldn’t even feel pain and Detective Reed made his head hurt. Though… it sounded different at the moment. Reed was looking down at him with an almost panicked look in his eyes. Nines couldn’t really tell due to the “shutdown imminent” warnings clouding his vision. But the detective looked truly scared. Though Nines was sure he’d be scared too. Connor was an intimidating presence with a gun. Especially for the man who once bullied him like a child. It was… well, it was nothing but funny to Nines as he smiled.
So, he lifted a hand, with a struggle of course, and grabbed hold of Reed’s wrist. Though it was merely to put a gun into the detective’s hand. Looking straight into his eyes with his own he could practically feel the fear. Though he didn’t understand what he was scared of. Either way, he couldn’t really do much about it. He had a rough three seconds until he shut down.
All he felt in those last three seconds was Gavin lifting him up and screaming at him that he was a fucking android and that he thought he wouldn’t die. Clearly, he had no idea what that meant. So, Nines shut down with only thoughts of the other man’s stupidity filling his head like the annoying shit he was, letting Connor escape too.
*bastard*.
