Work Text:
Luffy watches as Zoro falls backwards on the ground, pollen from the surrounding flowers rising in a burst of yellow around him. The sun hits Zoro directly as he stretches (not unlike a cat); with the pollen floating in the air, a yellowish hue covers his swordsman, making him look lighter in color – clothes included
Here, from his perch on Sunny's figurehead overlooking the entirety of the small island they've docked on, Luffy has a clear, unobstructed view of Zoro.
With his soft hair, pinkish lips, long limbs, plump chest, round cheeks, toned stomach, thick thighs, the lights shining down on him, flowers in every patch of grass in his vicinity – Luffy thinks Zoro shines brighter than any star he's ever seen.
He looks like an angel. Makino and all the stories she read him always described angels as surreal beings that shined brighter than the sun, that would calm all yours fears with just a smile, that made you feel like everything would be alright with a simple look – whose mere presence could make you feel stronger.
Zoro fits all these criteria. He might just be an actual angel.
(No matter what his old epithet said about him being a demon; demons are supposed to be ugly and cruel and merciless and Zoro is anything but.
...Except maybe to the marines but Luffy doesn't care what they – or anyone – thinks)
He feels more than sees Nami walk up beside him, also looking over where Zoro is currently taking a nap. "Oi, Luffy."
He hums to let her know he's listening without taking his eyes off Zoro. Damn, he's beautiful.
"We're leaving soon."
Despite not looking at her, Luffy doesn't miss the pointed look she sends Zoro's way as she says this.
"We aren't waking Zoro." He keeps staring at Zoro as he changes sleeping positions, slightly curling in on himself. Hmm, not a cat. Maybe a tiger?
Nami sighs, as if she were dealing with a particularly difficult child. "Luffy-"
"No," he interrupts, maybe harsher than necessary. "We're letting Zoro sleep longer, no one's allowed to wake him. Captain's orders."
Luffy watches as Zoro scrunches his face right before sneezing, sending more pollen floating around. Has Zoro always been this cute?
"Fine," Nami says. She glances between him and Zoro a few times before rolling her eyes and huffing, "Simp" so quiet he almost misses it.
He sticks his tongue out behind her back. She's probably bitter because she hasn't seen Vivi in a long time, he thinks. Whatever, he'll just ask Robin what that word means later.
For now, he just stays looking at Zoro's pretty, angelic face.
