Chapter Text
Izuku sat in the back of the car as Hizashi drove them to UA. The summer holidays had ended and Izuku was still not sure how he actually succeeded in the entrance exam for the most elite hero-school in the entirety of Japan. How could he, as a cat who had only two years prior started learning again after not learning anything anymore past the age of four, passed what was supposed to be the hardest test in Japan? He was ecstatic. But he’d just have to keep the excitement inside for the time being, because they had arrived.
Hizashi immediately went to his own classroom, not wanting to be late on the first day of the year, while Shouta took Izuku to the teachers lounge to wait for the bell. You’d think that after having lived with the two pro heroes who were also teachers, for almost two years, they would’ve taken Izuku to UA and the teachers lounge before as it was whare they'd spent most of their time. But they hadn’t. They probably would have if Izuku hadn’t had to catch up on so much regular curriculum stuff.
Izuku had had to progress in walking as a human, which was going better. He could now go on a usual walk up to around three hours without his legs or ankles giving out from beneath him. He still stumbled somewhat, but he’s still learning after all, so he’s still in the stage of progression, His braces really help with all the walking aswell. And if he tripped over his own feet three times during the walk from the garage to the lounge, his dad wouldn’t dare utter a word. Because he too knows that Izuku is trying his best, and stumbles are bound to happen in the learning process.
Izuku had also had to progress his writing and reading skills. After all, he couldn’t go to highschool with the grammar-skills of a preschooler, eventhough the writing proffesional told him his skills were above preschool levels anyway. Maybe all that movie writing he'd done in the past had payed off somehow. So when he wasn't at physiotherapy, he was in the library still always practicing his writing, and feeling blessed that his adopted parents are pro heroes who get a very good pay and could stand to take one or a few days a week off of being teacers to help him. Although you wouldn’t be able to see that wealth if you saw them walking by.
Izuku had to learn a lot of things that he missed throughout the years, and relearn a lot of small things as well. like; how to eat with cutlery, Why was he suddenly not allowed to hold his cutlery in a fist? How to eat in a healthy eating pattern, If he could survive for nine years on just ham and some left over food on the tops of bins, he'd survive without eating spinach. How to socialize, allright, giving someone a hand to greet them isn't too bad. How not to socialize, what do you mean he couldn't shift into a cat and lay on someone's lap if he felt it fit the situation?! How to deal with emotions, He used to just turn into a cat, find a warm place where no one would find him, not even Shouta or Tsuki, he decided to call the detective by that name because Izuku didn't know houw to pronounce Tsukauchi, and he would just go to sleep untill he didn't feel that bad anymore, but that's apparently NOT a 'healthy coping mechanism'. How to deal with people you don't like, Izuku thought that would be quite easy, just turn into a cat and bite them in the ankles, but Shouta told him that's basically assault so no more of that... and so on. but remember, he’s still learning. behavioral problems that you've done for nine years will not just disappear after two years of unlearning them.
So when they walked into the teachers lounge, Izuku got overwhelmed real quick. All the teachers that were not already in their class were there, and they all turned their heads to face Shouta and the teen, who tried to hide himself behind his adopted father. At first they saw Shouta and looked away from them. Izuku could basically hear their minds running and saw their eyes widen. almost in sync all their heads snapped back to look at him again, standing in the opened doorway that Shouta had left him there when he'd walked into the room to lay down on the couch, leaving a place for Izuku to sit and looking at him expectantly. Everyone in seemed frozen, except for Shouta who seemed to find the whole ordeal extremely entertaining.
The room was eerily quiet for what seemed like hours, realistically it was only a few seconds, until Midnight, who had heard of him from her friends but had never seen him because their schedule didn't align, spoke up. ‘’You must be the kitten! I've been wanting to see you for years!’’ The sentence started out in a normal tone, but the more she spoke the higher her tone became. Whiele she was talking, she stood up with her arms wide to probably give Izuku a hug. But he panicked, turned into a cat and rushed out of the teachers lounge. Leaving Midnight with a dissapointed face, frozen with her arms still in the air ready for a hug.
With that, Shouta took the opportunity and took the couch for himself. Knowing that he'd see Izuku again anyway, he wasn't too worried about it. He heard a voice somewhere, although he didn’t register who it was, he did hear the question. ‘’What was that about?’’ He really didn’t want to answer, but then the voice said his name so now he kinda has to. Unless he just pretends he’s already asleep, yeah, that’s a good plan. ‘’Aizawa, I know you’re not really asleep and you can hear me.’’ The voice said sternly. Ahh... Yeah this was vlad. ‘’That’s my kid.’’ He said. And that’s all the explanation any of them got, because Shouta just went back to ignoring everyone.
The room became chaos real quickly. Aizawa has a kid? Is Aizawa married to someone? Does Aizawa have a wife?! I thought Aizawa was gay.. Is he biologically his child? And so on. Basically all the answers Shouta ignored, and Nemuri didn’t feel like answering. So none of them ever got any answers. If they did watnt them, they should try their luck with the runnaway kid.
Meanwhile Izuku sprinted down the hall and up some flights of stairs to where Hizashi was. While running his panic mainly went away, until he found himself on the roof. He turned back into a human. Tears pricked in his eyes as he realized. He doesn’t know where Hizashi’s classroom is, and he doesn’t know how to get back to the teachers lounge. At this point he was actively crying. He had no idea how long he'd already been there. He was scared, and just wanted to go back to his parents. He didn't want to be alone, he didn't like being alone. He'd been alone for so long, so many years already, he didn't want to become lost again.
He thought about going back inside and asking someone where he could find them, but they would probably laugh at him, think it’s a joke, and not take him seriously. He couldn't talk so he'd have to write it down, but Shouta had his notebook and pen becayse he was addament to carry Izuku's bag for him on the way to the teachers lounge. Suddenly he remembered the last time he was at an actual school. The last time he actively tried to talk to people. The time he realized he didn’t want his quirk. The day after he got it. He was so excited to show everyone. He had begged his mom to let him dress up as a cat-boy. Which wasn’t so easy with cat vocals, but he succeeded He looked so cute! Izuku absolutely loved it, he loved cats and now he was one! He could talk to them, understand them. He couldn't wait to show his class what he could do.
He arrived in class and kept standing at the front of the class, just like how everyone else did when they just got their quirk so they could show it off. He waited untill everyone sat down in their assigned seats. They looked at him curiously. Once everyone was seated, he turned into a cat, jumped on the teachers desk and turned back. He threw his little arms high into the air as to say ‘TADAA!’. he heard a ton of ‘’aawwee’’s from the room. It was amazing. Everyone loved cat's! Izuku was ecstatic about that day.
Until the questions came. ‘’Can you turn into other animals?’’ Izuku shook his head, still extremely excited about all the attention he was getting. ‘’Isn’t that kinda lame?’’ Someone in the back said, Izuku’s confidence dropped, but he still smiled, because Kachan stared at him with stars in his eyes. Kachan loved cat’s. ‘’Yeah. it’s kinda lame.’’ He heard someone else agree, but Izuku didn’t care what other people thought, as long as Kachan thought he was cool, or cute, or adorable, he didn’t care. He didn't.
‘’He could be my kitty side-kick!’’ Kachan yelled. and everyone started laughing at them. which led to a lot of explosions. ‘’What do you say, Zuku? Kitty guard Side-kick?’’ He said after exploding the bullies who were poking fun at them. and Izuku wanted to say ‘’YES!’’ but what came out was a ‘’MEOW!’’ and he laughed. Kachan laughed at him. He had tears in his eyes from laughter. Izuku’s everlasting smile dropped. This was the first time in his life he hadn’t smiled at school. And everyone joined kachan’s laughter. Izuku shifted into a cat and hid under the teacher's desk. That’s where he spent the next two weeks. He didn’t listen to the teacher trying to get him away from there. After a few days his seat under the desk upgraded to on the teacher's lap while no one ever stopped laughing. It only took two weeks for him to have his cursed quirk before home crumbled to the ground and took his mother with it.
