Work Text:

Bette’s body awakened from the tips of her toes. She flexed her feet from under the covers, her long legs stretching beyond the blanket. A wisp of air brushed between her naked thighs triggering a hitch to her hips, her form creating a new contour in the bed as she adjusted her shoulder under the cool side of her pillow. Drifting somewhere between realms of consciousness, a visceral smile bared the silhouettes dancing behind her eyelids.

Visions of her and Tina slid dreamily, warping through memories of the last year, connecting all of the moments that had led to this beautiful birthday morning, a morning that dawned with thankfulness to be sharing her life with the renewed vows of her wife.

She didn’t hear Tina creeping back into the room between the golden slants of light with two steaming cups of coffee in hand and a flower between her teeth. Tina put the cups down and shimmied out of her open robe, sneaking back into bed behind Bette. She tickled the exposed skin with the lily’s petals before wrapping her arm around the brunette’s waist and letting her lips linger along her neck.

It wasn’t until the warmth of Tina’s mouth grazed the lobe of her ear that Bette let out a small sigh, a gasp of breath to tremble between their night’s love making and the morning’s spooning. Her lashes fluttered, her eyes rolled, struggling to focus on the yellow flower Tina had placed on her pillow.

Tina’s lips were warm and wet as she nuzzled Bette’s neck, leaving small, tender kisses all the way to the curve of her shoulder. She pressed her body into her back, her soft skin and pert nipples casting ripples of heat between them. Bette melted into Tina, their two bodies molding into one shape, two perfectly fitting pieces of a complicated puzzle.

Together their limbs reached for each other. Tina’s curvaceous thigh slung over Bette’s legs and Bette’s long arm linked through Tina’s embrace. Bette laced their fingers together and twirled Tina's wedding ring, the only orbit she needed with Tina as the center of her universe. She brought Tina’s hand to her lips kissing each finger delicately as if each held a magical reminder of the time they had been together.

“Happy Birthday, Pretty,” Tina said with a peck to Bette’s shoulder.

“Thank you, Baby…” Bette’s tone floated between contentment and craving as she kissed the inside of Tina’s wrist. She turned towards her, face-to-face on their shared pillow, Tina’s morning eyes shining a new light on Bette’s next trip around the sun. She repeated it again, “Thank you, Ti.”

The wives smiled silly smiles both still aglow from their night of endless passion. Bette’s sleepy eyes followed the flush of the blonde’s cheeks, tempted by the way Tina bit back her bottom lip. She kissed her gently, their noses nudging as she whispered into Tina’s mouth. “I watched the sun rise in your eyes and tasted its balm on your lips.”

“What, baby?” Tina uttered with something between a gasp and a giggle, her fingers smoothing out the sex-infused frizz of the brunette’s curls and tucking them behind her ear. She traced the defined jawline to the satisfied smirk of Bette’s mouth. “Where’s that from?”

“I thought of it when I dreamt of you and kissing you just now made me remember it.” Bette’s soft voice reflected the charm of the sentiment.

“Happy Birthday, my love,” Tina whispered again before taking Bette in her arms, kissing her forehead, and holding her head to her chest.

Bette inhaled her skin, the ample breasts a tantalizing mixture of honey and sweat. She placed a kiss at the top of her cleavage and another to the hollow of her throat. She found her lips once more before again resting on her favorite pillows. Happy tears filled Bette’s eyes as the melodic rhythm of Tina’s heartbeat instantly calmed her. Her own chaotic heart never really liked birthdays but she knew this one was different. Different because this year brought her back to where she belonged. Back to the loving arms of her wife, the love of her life, giving her the one gift she would only ever need again.
