Work Text:

Slowly waking up Kyle felt something warm in his arm, which is strange considering that he went to bed alone, or at least he's pretty sure. The team went out to a bar last night after the team lost. Although he only had a few beers before deciding to head home. So hers sure that he went to bed alone. Scared to open his eyes, Kyle was trying his best to avoid the inevitable. Eventually he got around to opening them with the first thing he noticed being that this clearly wasn't his room. The room was bigger than his own with the walls being made out of wood and a large window that leads to a deck. Lowering his eyes, Kyle started to make out what the man in his bed looked like. Firstly, noting that the man was about the same height as him, maybe just a bit shorter. As he looked down a bit more he saw the color of light dirty blonde hair. He felt his heart skip a beat.

Ryan.

It couldn't be.

He slowly pushed himself up so he wouldn't wake up, maybe supposedly Ryan. Kyle gently got out of bed making his way towards the door. Once opening the door that critifed Kyle’s concerns. This was not his house nor was it a place that he recognized.

Taking the stairs down he's met with the view of forest greens and a vast mountain range, hoping that means he's still in Colorado just somewhere up in the mountains.Taking in the view he didn't hear the soft footsteps behind him.

“Ky, what are you doing up so early?” the voice behind him says, Kyle instantly recognizes the voice. Ryan.

This has to be a dream Kyle thought. This wouldn't be the first time that he's dreamed about Ryan and him being together and it wouldn't be the last either. However the situation that he's in feels a bit too realistic to be a dream.

Turning around there Ryan was whipping the sleep out of his eyes, hair messy, wearing sweatpants and an old shirt. His heart started to beat faster, never would he have expected to see Ryan like this.

“I expected you to sleep in but it's a nice surprise to see you up” Ryan said, starting to walk closer to him.

Kyle immediately noticed something different about Ryan’s left hand. A titanium silver ring on his left hand. Last time he checked Ryan wasn't seeing anyone let alone engaged to someone and oh.

Waking up next to Ryan, sharing a bed with him, and a house. Taking a quick look down at his own hand, staring back at Kyle was a matching titanium sign but instead of silver it was black.

“Kyle is everything alright” instantly pulling Kyle out of his thoughts.

“Yeah, let's make some breakfast.”

“Hmm” is all that Ryan said before making his way towards the kitchen. Looking around Kyle noticed many photos of him and Ryan all over all the walls of the house. A lot of the photos are from memories that he doesn't remember but one catches his eye. It's a photo of him and Ryan, both of them in suits surrounded by a rocky valley kissing while the sun is starting to set in the distance.

This whole thing is fucked up. He must be dreaming Kyle thought while counting his walk to the kitchen. Ever since he found out that Ryan’s bisexual there's always been a small part in his brain eccouring him. He remembers all the stories from college. Boyfriends here and girlfriends there and sure there may have been moments where he came close to taking Ryan home but nothing ever happened. Yet here he is married to him. It's a dream.

Once Kyle stepped into the kitchen he was greeted with a heartwarming sight of Ryan at a coffee machine with two dogs surrounding his feet. Ryan took a small glance over his shoulder before turning around with a soft smile while handing him a cup of coffee.

“The Wilkersons invited us over to dinner, I just wanted to give you a heads up since I know how you get about Erin.”

Panic sets in once more now realizing the fact that Kyle knows nothing about this world. Clearly he has some sort of past with the Wilkersons or at least Erin. “She knows what she did”

“Kyle, not everyone who is attractive and talks to me is trying to flirt.”

“Agree to disagree” Kyle said however it left him with some thoughts the main one being the fact that he's the jealous type. Which isn't necessarily wrong about him. He hates to admit it but those years Ryan and Trevor dated was the most jealous he's ever been.

Ryan and Trevor were always hanging around each other, always needing to have some kind of contact. It was disgusting how in love they were, everyone thought that they were going to get married inducing him. The day he heard about Trevors trade was one of the happiest days of his life. They dated for about a year after the trade but ultimately ended up breaking up. He remembers being the one to comfort Ryan since he was a sobbing mess. He too thought that they were going to get married and start a family but alas the day he got the phone call saying it was over his world shattered. Thinking about it now he hasn't seen Ryan go on any dates since then as well as really hook up with anyone. He just took time for himself and it seemed to work out by the look of things especially in Kyle's case. So while Ryan is calling it jealousy he see it more of being protective and not wanting to see Ryan get hurt.

Kyle made his way towards Ryan, setting his coffee down so he could wrap his arms around Ryan’s waist, slowly rocking them back and forth doing his best to avoid tripping over the dogs.

“Ky it's hard for me to cook when you're being this clingy, if you stayed in bed a bit longer we wouldn't be having this problem.” Kyle let him go so he could cook since he was starting to get hungry. As he went to sit down at the island table he realized that he didn't have his phone with him, leaving it up stairs when he was panicking.

“Ryan can I borrow your phone”

“Did you leave your phone up the stairs again?” Ryan said smugly, turning around and handing his phone over to Kyle.

Looking at the background of Ryan's lockscreen it was a photo of them on a hike with their two dogs by a river probably in the mountains somewhere.

And. oh

All the anxiety that left Kyle quickly re entered him. The date was not correct or at least the year wasn't.

2029

That can't be right, he thought. How did this even happen? Five years in the future he is with Ryan not just with him but married.

Kyle started to feel a light head having the urge to throw up and not at the same time. None of this made any sense. One minute he's sleeping in 2024 and the next he's in 2029.

“Kyle, you look like you've seen a ghost, what's wrong?” Ryan said, putting the breakfast down in front of him.

“Its 2029”

“It's been 2029 for the past four months Kyle”

“Right”

“How hard did you hit your head on the overhead compartment?” Ryan was starting to get a worried look on his face which he hated seeing. Before Ryan could ask anymore questions his phone lit up with a call from..Trevor?

Great not only is he panicking but his jealousy is starting up which could lead to becoming an emotional threat.

“We’ll continue this conversation after we understand,” Ryan says before taking his phone back and going into another room. Kyle probably ran up stairs to go grab his phone so he could see what's going on hoping this is just some prank but upon opening his phone he's met with the same thing. 2029. Another thought started to creep into his mind as well, was Ryan cheating on him with Trevor. There's no way that they would get back together after the way Trevor tore Ryan's heart out. After doing a quick google search he was left with more questions than answers. Why the fuck is Trevor married to Jarren Duran.

While lost in thought once again he didn't hear the noise of Ryan coming into the bedroom. Looking up he was Ryan leaning against the door arms crossed clearly about to give some kind of lecture but before Ryan could get a word out Kyle let his intrusive thoughts win.

“What? No. Why on earth would you think that? You know better than anyone else that I wouldn't get back with him after he broke my heart like that.” He knows yes but that doesn't stop what he's feeling. Maybe he's really similar to future self.

“Sorry I-” but before he could get the rest of his sentence out he felt tears starting to roll down his face. Quickly he felt arms wrap around him pulling him into a deep hug. “Kyle, please tell me what's going on with you. You've been acting strange all day and I just want you to be alright”

“I'm not your Kyle.” Ryan wasn't understanding but kept comforting him anyways till he was ready to speak more. “I'm from the past or technically my present. I went to sleep last night and woke up in this room not knowing where I was. I thought this was all a dream and that I finally got a chance to be with you but now knowing im in the future im scared Ry”

He started to sob harder after confessing it. There's a chance that he ruined this moment forever, that he messed up the timeline and he wouldn't get a chance to be with Ryan. That he wouldn't get to experience this life that he got to see.

After a while of Ryan hugging him and ruining his hand up and down he finally silence once it seemed like Kyle was calm enough.

“What year are you from”

“2024”

“Five years is pretty scary isn't it”

“How are you so clam”

“It wouldn't be helpful if both of us were panicking would it now” Ryan laughed out

Kyle almost started trying again from how caring Ryan was being to him even though this is a different version of him.

“How about this go take a nap and when you wake up we’ll try to figure out a way to get you back to your year and bring ‘future’ Kyle back”

“Thank you”

“Even though you may not know it ive cared about you for a long time, even both getting together. When you get back, shoot your shot ok.” Ryan did his soft smile at him which calmed him down a bit more. Plus it also gave him the reinsurance that he needed since Ryan himself would know how he feels.

He slowly started to drift asleep.

Waking up he expected to see the bedroom that he fell asleep in but instead of that he was back in his own room in Denver. He quickly got out of bed to look around the house. Everything was the same as how he left it. His dog in the dog bed, the kitchen left somewhat messy, and clothes scattered all over the room.

He quickly got dressed and headed to the club house the earliest he's been in a while. As soon as he parked his car he went running inside hoping to find Ryan. Right as he got in Ryan was standing there taking off his backpack. Ryan looked up at him with a confused look.

“You're up early.” But before Ryan could say anything else Kyle decided to make his move.

“Would you like to go out with me”

There was a long minute of silence as Kyle stood there nervously while Ryan just looked at him. However Ryan smiled at him stepping closer

“I would love too, Kyle.”
