Protecting Temptation

Summary:

Hyunjin was raised with a silver spoon in his mouth. That was unavoidable when his father was the CEO of one of the biggest tech companies in South Korea. But such luxuries came with a price, and as Hwang Industries gained more and more enemies, their rivals began to view Hyunjin's life as another chess piece they could use to their advantage. With so many targets on Hyunjin's back, his father deemed it necessary to hire a personal guard to protect his son. A guard strong and capable enough to defend Hyunjin from virtually anything.

Lee Minho was a cold and composed man who prioritized the safety of his wards over everything else. After five years on the job nothing seemed to faze him, and he risked his life to protect even those he viewed as insufferable. But never before had he met a ward as reckless and flirtatious as Hwang Hyunjin, and what was meant to be a cushy job quickly turned into a babysitting gig when he realized Hyunjin wouldn't hesitate to prioritize fun over his safety. Perhaps Minho should have asked for a larger salary.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Hwang Industries was an enigma. The tech company had risen to power much faster than their competition, their product designs and marketing tactics proving superior to other methods as they quickly rose to the top of the tech industry. Their brand was everywhere.

Their ads featured well known celebrities, they had hundreds of patented products that stretched the limit of what tech could be capable of, and their net worth challenged that of the richest men in the country. The Hwang’s were in the top one percent, and their reputation was enough to keep them there.

But the closer you were to the top, the more people attempted to pull you back down. Hwang Industries had dominated the tech market, and as a result, they had gained enemies of all kinds. Their competition was constantly attempting to undermine them, and the most cold hearted had resorted to tactics that threatened not only the stability of Hwang Industries, but the lives of the Hwang’s as well.

The CEO of Hwang Industries couldn’t exactly judge. There was a reason he managed to run such a successful business, and gaining so much in a materialistic world often required shady things. But regardless of his own involvement, he still tried desperately to keep his son safe from it.

Hwang Hyunjin was the only thing Mr. Hwang had left of his wife, but even without that, he cherished his son. He was constantly concerned for his son’s sanity, sure, but his love was unconditional. Anything that posed a threat to his son had to be taken care of, but unfortunately some threats were only visible after it was too late.

So far Hyunjin has survived every attempt made to harm him, but luck was a fickle thing. You didn’t get far in life by relying on fickle things. So Mr. Hwang decided to do something he should have done a very long time ago. He hired a bodyguard to protect his son.

Minho was as reputable as they came. He had guarded multiple different wards, and every single one managed to survive under his care. As far as average bodyguards went he was overqualified, and the risks he took to protect his wards was above admirable. He took his job incredibly seriously, and any threat to his wards was handled with merciless efficiency. He was a pricey hire, sure, but with his competence, having him guard Hyunjin was almost a guarantee of Hyunjin’s survival. And Mr. Hwang would do anything for his son.

It was by pure luck that Minho was in between assignments when Mr. Hwang began to look for a quality bodyguard, and after offering a salary slightly higher than what Minho was used to, a contract was signed.

For as long as Minho could handle it he would be in charge of Hyunjin’s safety, and while Minho himself had no qualms about his new assignment, Mr. Hwang had his reservations. There was a reason the termination requirement was worded that way, because while Minho’s professional reputation preceded him, Hyunjin himself was notorious.

Mr. Hwang loved his son, but he wasn’t delusional enough to overlook the fact that his son was a dumbass. He once fell down two flights of stairs because his best friend dared him to walk in seven inch stilettos. He once failed a mandatory fire drill because instead of using the fire exit he attempted to jump out the window despite being on the fifth floor.

Hyunjin was the reason they put warning labels on shampoo bottles, and if that was literal instead of metaphorical, he would most likely take pride in it.

Hyunjin’s well being was constantly threatened by those who wished to kidnap him for ransom and those who wished to kill him to mess with his father’s head, but the biggest threat to his safety was his own recklessness. The only reason he had survived so far was because of his ridiculous level of luck, but even fortune couldn’t keep him safe from his bad decisions.

Mr. Hwang could only pray Minho would be the solution.
