Of course he had known the whole time.
People like Roque Brilliante didn't employ novice engineers with once-in-a-lifetime breakthrough ideas from the middle of nowhere out of the goodness of their hearts.
Floyd was not that stupid.
Maybe he was a little naive to still believe some people in that company surely had to have some decency left in them. Maybe he was too stubborn to throw in the towel when he had that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity he refused to let go.
But when Partitio signed that contract, he knew that this little bit of hope was worth holding on to.
