Chapter Text
I live in a place, a funny place if you will. A world filled with people that were born with strange abilities. Most people call these: quirks. Unfortunately, if you aren’t lucky enough to be born with one of these quirks…well. You're usually at a huge disadvantage. An “extra” as some explosive people would call it. However, I wouldn’t be telling you this story if I was born as a simple extra, right? On top of all that, strange creatures are the cause of lots of events in this world, good or bad. This is the story about how I, Izuku, Midoriya, became the greatest hero the world has ever seen! Well…maybe the greatest one two worlds have seen.

“Would you just leave me alone, Kacchan…” The green hair boy muttered out as he trekked along the path leading out Aldera Junior High. This comment seemed to anger the Blonde even further.
“HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU NERD?” He angrily stated as sparks sizzled from his hand. “I’M GONNA BE THE ONLY ONE FROM THIS SHITTY SCHOOL TO ATTEND UA!’ He proudly announced, before shoving Izuku and walking off with his group of followers.
Izuku realized the shove had actually caused him to drop his notebook. Or so he liked to call it, his “SUPER PLUS ULTRA HERO ANALYSIS DATABOOK”. After picking up his notebook, he began the walk home. He usually took the Subway, however due to a villain attack earlier, He was pretty much forced to walk home. On his walk home, he came across shady underway. Sure this place smelt of old garbage, but he really didn’t wanna take the main roads and run into Bakugo again.
So Izuku took the path under the bridge. While walking under the bridge, Izuku heard an odd, liquid-like noise from above. He instinctively looked up, and before he could say anything, a sludge Villain pounced on him. “Nothing personal kid! Just need a body for a little while. It’ll be over soon!” As the slime began to intrude all of Izuku’s airways, Izuku attempted the scream. However his screams were extremely muffled and pretty much in-audible.
After a while of struggling, one line of thought came to Izuku’s mind. *“I'm gonna die here…my life was a total failure…maybe in the next life…I can get a quir-.”*
Before he could finish that thought he passed out. Although, in his last moments of blurry vision he felt a strong gust of wind blow by him and the tentacles suddenly exit his body. Before his eyes closed he heard the words “There you are villain!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As Izuku’s green eyes slowly opened, he could only think of one thing. “I'm alive…I'm ALIVE!” Izuku exclaimed as he practically jumped off the ground. However, his excitement quickly turned into bewilderment as he noticed who was standing in front of him. The man wore a hero suit that's red white and blue. His gloves and boots were yellow colored and his hair was a dark blond with two V shaped strands standing up at the front.
This man was no other than All Might. “A-a-l-l….M-might?” Izuku choked out. (All Might was Izuku’s idol and the top hero in the entire world! This was a dream come true.) All Might chuckled at Izuku’s statement. “DO NOT WORRY YOUNG ONE! THIS VILLAIN'S DAYS OF VILLAINY ARE OVER!”
All Might then proudly showed off the now bottled sludge villain. All Might then politely grabbed Izuku’s notebook and quickly signed it. He noticed the boy's seeming infatuation with Hero's and their work but said nothing. “NOW IF YOU’LL EXC-”
The green haired boy stuck his hand out. “Wait! All Might! I have a question!” All Might smiled yet answered somewhat dismissively. “Sorry! I don’t have much free time today! If you have a question try emailing through the email on my site!”
All Might’s quirk then activated as he took off. “Now where was I?” All Might thought to himself as he flew through the air. However his thoughts were cut off by the sound of loud groaning as someone’s face hit the wind at high speeds.
All Might looked down and noticed Izuku holding on tightly to his leg. “Young man! I’m sure you have a good question but you need to let go! I have business to take care of!”
Izuku struggled to speak as the wind continued to hit his face. “If I l-let go n-n-now I’ll die!”
Izuku said, trying his best not to lose his grip. All Might sighed and landed on a nearby apartment building roof. “Now knock until someone lets you down.”
All Might sternly yet caringly said as he prepared to take off again. Izuku really wanted this question answered. “Please All Might!” All Might resisted the urge to tell him off aggressively.
“I’m sorry but I have to g-” before the #1 hero could take off blood trickled from his white smile. “Damnit!” he quietly exclaimed.
Deku was so lost in his own thoughts he hadn’t noticed the small veil of smoke surrounding the hero. When Izuku finally looked up, he noticed a very scrawny man.
“AUGHHHH!”
Izuku screamed loudly before almost falling back. “Who are you?! Where’s All Might?” All Might rubbed the temple’s on his forehead.
“ You're looking at him.”
Izuku is too shocked to really speak. The All Might that stood in front of him wore a baggy white plain shirt and green cargo pants. The only feature of his resembling his old self being his V shaped hair.
All Might then pulled up his shirt partly to show Izuku a mark on his side. “I got injured badly in a fight a few years ago.” He paused to wipe some blood off his chin. “So now I can only use my quirk a few hours a day…please don’t go telling the world about this. It’s a secret.” He said before beginning to walk off the apartment roof.
Izuku still wanted his question answered so he went for it. “Sir! My name is Izuku Midoriya! And I was curious…Is it possible to be a hero without a quirk?”
All Might paused as he held the open door in his hand. “Probably not, young Midoriya. Assuming your quirkless…i’d recommend you become a police officer if you're interested in helping. You should aim for something a little more realistic.”. And with that, All Might continued down the roof stairs, leaving Izuku alone to dwell on the harsh truth.
All Might couldn’t lie; in fact he would be lying if he said he didn’t feel bad about the harsh answer. However, before All Might could even get down a flight of stairs, he noticed his pocket felt weirdly light. “Dammit! I must’ve dropped it!”
He then looks out the window with a sense of dread and notices a bit of commotion in the distance.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Izuku felt a sense of dread as he stood on the roof. He’s not sure if he stood there for 2 minutes, or an hour. But it felt like an eternity.
After he finally pushed himself off the roof he began sulking on the way home. He couldn't believe it. The #1 hero officially sealed the deal. His dream wasn’t possible.
However, right before he reached the street of his apartment, he noticed an odd opening of trees. *”That’s…odd. Never noticed this before.”* He thought to himself before getting ready to walk away. ”Feeeeeddddddd meeeee…..” Izuku’s chest almost exploded.
Izuku then noticed purple smoke coming from the opening of the trees. He looked up at the sun. There was still lots of light outside. His mom hopefully wouldn’t worry too much.
Maybe someone needed help! This would be Izuku’s chance to prove his idol wrong. He could save someone while also being quirkless! Izuku bravely stepped into the opening of trees. It was like stepping into an entirely new foreign place.
”Feeeeeddddd meeee…”
Echoed through the area once more. As he continued through what was starting to now look like a full on forest he passed by a rusty old sign that read “M-. Wi-dw-od”. Some of the letters were scratched out or too light to read.
Izuku continued down the path, before reaching a small set of stone stairs leading down. After walking down the stairs, Izuku was met with an old machine that resembled a gum machine sitting atop a stone. “I wonder what’s in here…” Izuku muttered as he took out a coin.
After inserting the coin, instead of some old gumball, a gray capsule popped out. ”A…Capsule?” Izuku thought to himself as he cautiously grabbed the capsule.
He attempted to open it, but it was quite tough. He then realized it was a simple twist and turn capsule. After twisting it, a burst of purple smoke sent Izuku toppling back.
“WOAH!”
Izuku exclaimed as he fell on the ground. However, when he looked up something odd stood in front of him. It was a marshmallow looking creature with purple lips and a swirl resembling ice cream on its head. It resembled a ghost.
Izuku, still on the ground, began to inch away. The ghost noticed Izuku inching away. “Now Now! There’s no need to be afraid my friend! I'm Whisper!” The “ghost” then paused to smile at the green haired boy. “I'm your Yo-Kai butler! Pleased to meet you.”
Izuku pinched himself. “B-but…Yo-kai aren’t real! They’re folktales!” Izuku declared before standing. “Must be some kid with an illusion based quirk pranking me…” Izuku thought to himself.
Whisper flew closer. “Well young man! What’s your name?” Izuku didn’t reply. He began to mumble to himself.
“Well the illusion based quirk doesn’t explain how it’s talking to me…no one’s quirk is that advanced…and what about the gumball machine? It literally took my coi-”
Before Izuku could finish mumbling his thoughts, Whisper chimed in. “I don’t mean to alarm you but you're speaking out loud! I'm right here!” Izuku suddenly had an idea pop into his head.
“Woah! Maybe this is my quirk! The ability to see Yo-Kai!” He said loudly.
Whisper got slightly confused at this statement. “A quirk? What in the gods is that?!” Izuku was shocked.
“How don’t you know what a quirk is?! They’re only the coolest and most amazing powers most people have! And-” Whisper cut him off again.
“Apologies! I had been confined to that capsule for…let’s just say some time.” Whisper talks before Izuku can speak. “Regardless of what a “quirk” is…I’m your Yo-Kai butler! And it’s my job to help you with all things Yo-Kai!”
Izuku awkwardly laughed. Now he just assumed this was just some guy with a really odd physical appearance quirk.
“I gotta get going…my mom is probably worried.” Whisper flew in front of the stone stairs before Izuku could exit.
“Now just hold for it for a moment! You haven’t even heard my backstory…or told me your name!”. Izuku considered telling Whisper a fake name but his pureness got the better of him.
“I’m Izuku…Izuku Midoriya.”
Whisper then pulled some strange gadget out his body. “Well Izuku! As your Yo-Kai butler I present you with this doo-hickey!”
Izuku shakily stuck out his hand and grabbed the watch. It was mostly white, with bright colors displayed inside it and black markings on the watch’s strap.
Izuku now looked at the watch in slight awe before slowly putting it on his wrist.
“A..watch?” Whisper seemed to get happier at Izuku’s utter cluelessness. “Well my friend! This is no ordinary watch…It’s a Yo-Kai watch!”
Izuku was now curious. “A Yo-Kai w-w-Watch?” He stuttered out. “What does it do?”. Whisper pulled out a large blue pad, glossed over the screen, then quickly hid it again.
“Ahem-I thought you’d never ask!” He flies over to Izuku and begins lecturing about the watch.
“The Yo-Kai watch allows you to see and interact with Yo-kai! Also! If you have a Yo-Kai’s medal…you can always summon them with the watch!”
Whisper’s high energy was a bit much for Izuku to handle. “I appreciate the gift…but I really gotta get home!” Izuku said, awkwardly scratching his head.
Whisper Sighed and flew aside. “Well…as your Yo-Kai butler I will be accompanying you home.”
Izuku stopped dead in his tracks. “I'm really sorry…but my mom says I'm not allowed to have pets!”
Whisper looked dumbfounded. “Firstly I am no average house pet! Secondly, most people cannot see Yo-Kai...”
Izuku continued walking with Whisper floating behind. “W-wait really?” Whisper’s energy had returned.
“Of course! Why do you think you’ve never encountered one before meeting me?!” Izuku thought for a moment and then responded. “Good point.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Izuku, now accompanied by Whisper, made his way out of the clearing of trees; his original intention was to head straight home, however, he noticed a man acting extra pumped by a bus stop.
This guy was shouting and screaming about how excited he was for a night shift. This creeped Izuku out but pumped Whisper up.“Looky here Izuku! Your first Yo-Kai encounter!”
Izuku was confused. “Are you seeing things, Whisper? There's no one there…”
Whisper chuckled. “Use the lens on your watch silly…then aim over in the general direction of the area!”
Izuku stepped a bit closer and aimed his watch lens in the direction of the man. After a bit of searching around, his watch landed on something. This something turned into purple smoke, and then appeared.
It was a short, anthropomorphic, lion with fire ball shaped hair. It’s fur was a bright orange and it wore some type of uniform similar to that of a karate trainee.
Izuku was starting to catch on. “So that's a Yo-Kai? Huh…”. Whisper pulled out the odd blue tablet and frantically pushed a few things on the screen. “This Yo-Kai here is called-er…Siro…Blazion! This Yo-Kai is Blazion!”
Izuku stares at Blazion trying to study it. Blazion seems to notice the green haired human staring at him.
“BLAZE?”
Blazion roars loudly and launches a ball of fire at Izuku.
“BLAZION!”
Whisper chimes in as Izuku barely manages to side step a ball of fire. “He’s asking how you can see him, Izuku!” Izuku realizes a small crowd of people are pretty close by.
He tries to avoid looking like an idiot.
“U-uhm..Can’t you tell him I have a Yo-Kai watch?!” As if a trigger word was said, Blazion suddenly stops crazily hurling fire everywhere.
Izuku and Whisper both sigh in relief. Whisper puts away his tablet and speaks. “I didn’t really get a chance to explain it to you but…Yo-Kai can influence people’s actions. In a good or bad way. We call it Inspiriting!”
Izuku is quite perplexed by this. “Really? Does that mean every single human emotion is caused by YO-KAI?!” Izuku says this quite loudly.
Everyone but the man inspirited by Blazion created distance away from him. Blazion suddenly screams loudly, causing Izuku and Whisper to jump slightly.
“BLAZZZEEEEION!!”
The lion Yo-Kai then runs off, and the man that was inspirited by him is suddenly acting normal.
“Huh…what happened?” The man mutters out before scratching his head and sitting on the bus stop bench.
Whisper then points Izuku to a weird, shiny coin on the ground.
“Blazion said to call him whenever you need to get pumped up and going! He left his medal on the ground.”
Izuku approached the medal and picked it up. On the medal was blazion screaming in front of a wall of fire. Izuku inspected the medal in his hand. “So…if I put this medal in the watch I can call Blazion whenever?”.
Whisper nodded. “Absolout-o my friend-o!” Izuku sat in silence for a moment, just looking at the medal. Whisper noticed his silence and odd facial expression.
“What’s wrong Izuku?” Izuku looked up, as he began walking away from the bus stop. “S-so…whenever I put Blazion’s medal in the watch, h-h-he can help me fight? Like a quirk?”
Whisper started to follow behind Izuku as pondered the question. “Well Yo-Kai aren’t technically allowed to get directly handsy with humans…although I guess he could possess you…”
Izuku came to a halt at the crosswalk. “Possess me?”
Whisper gave a thumbs up with his white, ghostly hand. “Well of course! If a Yo-Kai possess you, you get access to their ability!. The only downside is…well…they get partial control over your body..”Whisper speaks up again after a slight pause.
“Inspiriting” is a little different, you don't get access to the Yo-Kai’s abilities, it’s more so them just influencing your personality.” Izuku pulls out his notebook, intent on asking more questions, however, a girl with a round face, brown hair, and a slight blush on their face walks by. She’s watching someone on her phone.
*”This just in! A sludge monster is currently attacking a boy with an explosive quirk! They’re causing immense damage to the surrounding area, and the pro heroes can’t get a proper opening!”*
Izuku sits there, wide eyed. Whisper notices. “Why the shocked face Izuku?”
Izuku looks up at the floating Yo-Kai. He then looks over in the direction of the bridge he was attacked at earlier. He can just barely make out a cloud of smoke in that general direction.
“Whisper! We have to go over there!” Izuku jay-walks as he runs across the streets towards the smoke.
Whisper, despite floating, seemingly struggles to keep up. “Izuku! Hold your horses! What’s the matter?!”
Izuku continues to run toward the smoke. “My friend! He’s in trouble and it’s my fault!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Izuku rushes towards the scene with whisper right behind him. He gets close enough to see the sludge monster from earlier and Bakugo struggling against it, causing explosions and destruction.
Whisper stares in awe. “My goodness! Since when are humans capable of using Yo-Kai like powers?!”. Izuku pushes through some more people, he notices the pro heroes are struggling to get an opening, seemingly due to Bakugo’s quirk.
Izuku stands there for a moment. He then pulls a red medal from his pocket. Whisper catches his look. “You certainly can’t be thinking!?”, Izuku side steps Whisper and rushes into the scene, before inserting the Medal into his watch...
