A short montage is considered short because the ending often comes too soon.
The night was engulfed with the hustling of people, the honking of cars, and the protesting of those trying to get by. Sitting next to his husband, Scaramouche was tired of all the traffic surrounding them. With an available exit near them, he spoke up with a sigh.
“Let's just go out for dinner, yeah?” He asked his husband and looked at him with a little smile. How long has it been since he's reached a full smile? He wouldn't remember.
Walking down the street holding the hand of the one he's vowed to, he smiled happily as they came from their quick little dinner date. Arriving at their car, the sound of smooth and joyful jazz filled the air. The music flowed out from a small building, people surrounding, their murmurs blending in with the tune in the sky. He was taken inside by his husband who was looking forward to the music playing.
The atmosphere was joyous, it was a rare one in the city they shared. The continuous honks of cars and bustling streets were drowned out with calm jazz and the chatter of multiple. Walking inside was like stepping into a brand-new dream. He paused suddenly, though, as they approached the real entrance. A big sign entered his view. The name Kaedehara felt like a taunting joke.
“You coming?” The sound of his husband's voice cut him out of his trance. He nodded before following behind his love once again. The room was filled with a fine tune, he enjoyed the music. Though once the music was erased with claps and chatter he froze as he saw the man he was once with.
Sitting there watching his once lover introduce the men who played the fine tunes in awe. Refusing to look away his heart beat in his chest loudly. Their eyes met for a moment. The once joyful and melodic atmosphere in the bar was replaced with a silence that screamed out.
Within what seemed like the blink of an eye, a tune filled the room. Starting slow with a melody of the stars. A slow song made time freeze almost. Scaramouche felt his breath hitch as he watched the man he once shared his world with, his vulnerabilities, and his insecurities play along with the silence of the room. Feeling only the two of them in that moment, the notes of the piano coming to life, showing the life they could've had. Nothing would ever prepare him for the feelings that would engulf his mind as he listened.
The tune brought him back to that same night, the exact moment he met the other for the first time. Approaching him with a panic of the seas rather than stopping Kazuha to talk like he did five years ago, he was pulled flush against the other and met with a deep kiss. One of longing and purity. It felt as if the last five years reminded me of a second chance. His senses stuck on the man in front of him, his breath slightly heavy from the passion-filled action. Smiling like never before he hugged Kazuha. A short montage of their lives played out in his mind.
Beginning from the moment their first disagreements began, rather than performing for a crowd of 5 people once the lights of the theater beamed throughout, cheers and claps engulfed the atmosphere. Within the crowd the man he fell in love with. With such care in his eyes and admiration, Kazuha cheered for his lover with a sense of pride and pride. They rejoiced over Scaramouches' successful first show. Continuing with everything, holding each other dearly and with such closeness that could only be described as pure love. However, once he finally achieved success as a big director, it seemed to pull away. Slipping through Kazuha's fingers once again was his lover who he desperately wanted to hold close forever.
Kazuha never had something so wonderful before, having to leave it behind again felt like another punch to the gut, a familiar feeling of five years ago.
The hand that was once holding onto Kazuha was now in hold of someone else's. Despite a change of events, their fates remained still. Despite it all, they danced in a sea of shining lights, the two of them engulfed in each other's presence. Gracefully they danced together, a blinding moment showing their future. They got married and adopted a small baby boy. Doing everything a family would do. The moment seemed to last forever, only for it to be fast-forwarded to Scaramouches life now. He left their home earlier that night, only this time he was with Kazuha. The same events followed through, leading the two back to where they were now.
Scaramouche sat dumbfoundedly in his seat, listening to the tune once again. Despite Kazuha being next to him, he saw Kazuha playing on stage once again. His hand gracefully moved along the keys. Until finally, the final note was played. A word of hesitation, for it seemed more was to follow the empty note. Though nothing came.
Scaramouche blinked, and at that moment, he was back in reality; he was holding onto his husband's arm with a look of nostalgia in his eyes. Together, he got up with his husband; as they left, he turned around one last time. Meeting the gaze of his first one and only he was given a smile from Kazuha. With a quick action, he smiled back.
It was a quick smile, one that would have been missed if the other looked away, a smile to let the other know that he was grateful for him. If not for him being pushed to audition five years ago he would have given up his dreams. Turning away he finally made peace with his past. Leaving, knowing the other knew he cherished their time together and would never forget the love that they shared.
