Reaching the shore had never been more relieving. The horrors I had seen at sea had made me sure that I would never leave the land again in my life.
It happened 5 months ago when my crew had gone on a fishing expedition, the general trip went as usual until one day something had struck the boat, something strong, stronger than the average sea creature.
It wasn’t an accident, something struck the ship voluntarily, and we had to quickly watch out for a potential threat.
One of the crewmates shouted something about a beast in the water that taunted us.
A cobalt-horned black and white whale. Attacking our boat repeatedly, making it sway from side to side in an attempt to flip it over.
Everyone was hurrying to get rid of it, even arming themselves with harpoons to stop it, and yet, our attacks were unsuccessful. The beast was agile, and almost dodged them all, the rest being deflected and thrown back at us.
Thing went worse when one of our harpoons had pierced the hull. We went down to find it ripping it appart after the initial hole, letting water flood and weigh our boat down. There I saw the face of the beast and knew that this was no regular whale.
It was a merdemon. I got to see its face, its sharp, toothy grin as it tore off more of the boat before leaving rapidly as it saw us. We couldn’t strike, everything was flooding and we had to do something about it. When our captain came to us, all he said was to jump.
There was no saving the boat with the state it was in, and the whale was still attacking, making it sway even further.
I feared sinking alongside the boat, and yet I feared what would happen if we jumped out. The water rushed in and so we had to make our choice fast… or at least we thought we did until everything was flipped over and we were all submerged.
Quickly, we swam up to the surface to find anything we could hold on, but already the water was turning red, and I saw my crewmates disappearing, the whale swimming around us with ease.
They were being dragged down, drowned and torn apart one by one.
Suddenly I was alone. I let myself sink knowing it was hopeless. I would join my crew.
When I turned face to face with the beast, I could swear I felt my heart stop. It grinned at me, wearing the blue shades of my captain as a mockery, playing with me in the water like I was a mere toy before sending me to the surface. Suddenly I was in the air, flung by its tail. And then I crashed back into the water.
And it flung me again, again, and again… until suddenly I was back in the water, but the whale was gone.
I was alone, in a patch of red sea water and remains of a wrecked ship.
I do not know why the whale decided to spare me this day, but all I know is that I can only warn about this beast of the north sea.
