Summary:

Work Text:

Welcome to my guide on drawing everything in my normal stick figure artstyle.
First of all, you must learn the principles of being Cheap, Fast, and Sloppy.

CHEAP - The art must look less detailed and induce the feeling of being drawn by an amateur artist.
FAST - The drawing speed takes at least 5-10 minutes on average to finish.
SLOPPY - Don't worry if your art has mistakes. Just put it there and not acknowledge it at all (unless the error is too irritating for you).

RECOMMENDED SOFTWARE FOR THIS ARTSTYLE:

I'd say use any type of drawing software with an aliased pixel brush that is pretty close to Microsoft Paint's pencil tool.
If you want any free software for this, FireAlpaca, Krita, or paint.net would be your best bet.
You can use Microsoft Paint to draw in this artstyle if you aim for full authenticity. Use the Windows 7 version of it.

THINGS YOU MUST NOT DO WHEN DRAWING IN THIS ARTSTYLE:

  • Drawing with antialiasing on.
  • Drawing with pressure sensitivity on literally everything. Only use pressure sensitivity on any liquid substance like water, or blood.
  • Adding sophisticated detail into your art.
  • Using shape tools unless necessary.
  • Straight lines.
  • Using rulers or any sorts of tools to help you draw straight lines.
  • Drawing sleeves on the characters' shirts.
  • Drawing noses.
  • Drawing characters with teeth sticking out of their mouths (unless you have a valid excuse to do so).
  • Not drawing anything.

HOW TO DRAW A HUMAN (OR TROLL. OR ANY HUMANOID CREATURE.) IN EGGSTUCK'S ARTSTYLE:

STEP 1: Set your brush at 4px. Brushes that are smaller than 4px are generally for smaller details.

STEP 2: Draw a circle, but not TOO perfect. Just try your best. Remember that the head must be bigger than the torso.

STEP 3: Draw the torso. Note that there are two types of torso shapes in this artstyle. Circular bodies are mainly for masculine body shapes, and trapezoid-shaped bodies are mainly for feminine body shapes. But honestly, choose which one that fits your character more regardless of what they are.

STEP 4: Draw the limbs as black lines.

STEP 5: Hands are generally portrayed as black circles unless they are doing a finger gesture like pointing, or chin stroking, or flipping the bird.

STEP 6: Draw some deflated balloons on the leg tips for slight modesty.

STEP 7: To draw a face, draw small beady eyes (or large circles and dots for trolls). Remember to add some eyebrows on a few facial expressions.

STEP 8 (OPTIONAL): Go crazy with the hair. This does not apply to bald and clean-shaved characters.

STEP 9 (OPTIONAL): Draw an overshirt, jacket, vest, a cute shirt pattern, or just color in in the torso. This step does not apply to characters who wear plain white shirts. For the shoes, color them if you want to, unless their shoes are white.

STEP 10 (OPTIONAL): Draw a mouth.

DRAWING THE BACKGROUNDS:

Photobash or sloppily trace existing backgrounds. If you want to make your own simply try to do your worst, and follow the CFS principle.

DRAWING THE HORNS:

Simply draw em in only ONE color, and that is pure MS Paint default orange. DO NOT draw the outlines!

COLORING TIPS:

My general tip on coloring is to use at least one in 20 default colors of Microsoft Paint, shown below. But if you want to do your own thing and use your own colors, go ahead.

For white and/or colored hair, draw the hair in a different color and then fill it in and paint over the outline of the head, then color the outline.

THANK YOU FOR READING THIS GUIDE, AND GOOD LUCK TRYING TO DRAW IN EGGSTUCK'S ARTSTYLE! REMEMBER: ANYONE CAN DRAW!
