Chapter Text
You aren't the one who the bards will write songs about and that is fine in your opinion. Honestly if the choice wasn't join the wardens or die you would still be with your clan right now. No the one who will probably become a legend is your leader who used to be royalty before being betrayed and exiled. While you don't know much about royalty the way your leader carries herself is quite royal if the tales Leliana tells about royalty are anything to go by. It's hardly surprising when your gaze moves from your leader to the witch who's sitting by her own fire. Ever since she made a rather dramatic entrance into your life you find it hard to not be fascinated by her. Still something tells you to keep your distance and you succeed in such the first few weeks while you travel. But by the third week things take a rather unexpected turn you never saw coming.
A storm makes it so travel is next to impossible and reluctantly your leader decides to stop for the day and make camp a few days outside of Denerim. Everyone sets up their tents and settles in since the storm doesn't seem to be ending any time soon. It seems like the perfect moment to begin writing in your journal when you hear something or someone just outside of your tent trying to get in. After using magic to ensure it's not someone or something trying to attack you it's only then that you open your tent to see a soaked Morrigan who comes in once you use a spell to dry her off. She mentions something about the storm making a hole in her tent and you offer to let her stay in yours. You go back to writing in your journal before noticing Morrigan stumble while trying to take off cloak and move quickly to catch her. There is little to no distance between you and her and you find your gaze drifting to her lips before looking into her eyes. Quickly you pull back and apologize not sure what came over you. Strangly Morrigan doesn't say anything and chooses instead to settle her head on your shoulder before falling asleep shortly afterwards. If your heart races at her being so close you tell yourself it doesn't mean anything.
Neither you nor Morrigan decide to talk about how a week ago you almost kissed inside of your tent. There is a strange kind of tension between the both of you whenever you find yourselves alone together. Not that you have much time to linger on whatever you might feel for Morrigan since things have seemed to get worse as you draw closer to the circle. If the bandit attacks weren't bad enough there were also the darkspawn to worry about as well. It's during one attack that you move fast enough to push Morrigan out of the way except you somehow misstep and land on top of her sure you are blushing profusely. In this moment there is just you and her the distance between the both of you would be so easy to bridge if you just lean forward. The moment your lips almost press together is interrupted by the sound of your leader calling out for help and the moment is gone. So you help pull Morrigan up and tell yourself it's for the best that you didn't kiss even though your heart isn't quite convinced about the matter at all.
The circle was a literal nightmare and you are just glad that you left the place in one piece. You can tell that you aren't the only one who was shaken up by the circle but no one is willing to talk about it. It's hard not to dwell on what you saw but you try your best since your leader needs you are your best after all. Still when you reach an inn and the promise of an actual bed it's hard not to want a drink. Something you rarely indulged in while being a part of your clan but found it helped you sleep when the nightmares keep you up for hours on end. While some of the others might find your drinking so often to be troubling you thought it was either that or not be able to sleep ever again. Besides you could stop at any time and just needed to have a few drinks to help you get by that's all. Just another lie you told herself among many while traveling with your fellow wardens and fellow traveling companions.
It's when you start to feel a buzz that you realize someone else has moved to sit beside you without making any noise at all. You close your eyes and call feel Morrigan's magic brush up against your own then open your eyes to look at her. She surprises you by taking a sip from your bottle before setting it on the ground beside her. There are so many conflicting feelings running around in your head and if you were coordinated enough you might make a run for it. Instead you just stare into her eyes and watch as she slides a bit closer before placing a hand upon your cheek. Is she going to kiss you? Did you want her to kiss you? Before you can really figure out the answer to either question Morrigan quickly puts distance between you and her and figure out why a few moments later. Once again your leader is the reason a potential kiss is interrupted and you aren't sure how to feel about that. So instead of examining your feelings you stand up and grab the bottle chugging it before tossing it aside. Hopefully you won't have an nightmares since you aren't in the right mindset for them at all.
The fourth and fifth time you almost kiss Morrigan happen shortly after you help rescue Recliffe from the undead. You venture off alone and head towards the docks just wanting a moment to gather your thoughts. Strangely enough Morrigan appears beside you shortly after she comes to your mind. For once your near kisses are not due to anyone else but happen because neither of you seem to know how to kiss someone else at all. After ending up kissing noses and cheeks you both end up laughing thinking this is ridiculous. Yet somehow fitting with it comes to how things are developing between you so you just settle on sitting beside each other on the docks as Morrigan places her head on your shoulder.
When you do finally kiss it's hardly a romantic moment at all in fact one of you is wounded and the other is trying their best to keep you alive while calling you a fool. You would tease Morrigan for having feelings but it's taking all your effort to stay awake at this very moment. Instead you offer what little mana you have to help Morrigan heal you so you can get up and lean against her while you both head back to camp. The darkspawn attack had been unexpected and you were cut off from the rest of your group finding yourselves surrounded almost immediately. So you did what you thought was the best idea and used a spell to move Morrigan out of the way and focus the attention on you instead. While combat magic was never your best subject you could hold your own in a fight. In fact you had almost killed all of them until one of them attacked you from behind. Quickly Morrigan had taken out the last darkspawn and did her best to heal your wound but her mana was running low. It's only thanks to offering your own that you are able to get up and leave along side of her. You have never seen Morrigan more furious or lovely and maybe that is why you finally kiss her. She calls you a fool for opening your wound and kisses you once more before insisting you go to Wynne to fully close your wound so you don't lose any more blood. And if you might be looking forward to kiss Morrigan later on well that is a secret best kept between you and the creators.
