Notes:

This fic started with a crack idea but now i am taking it seriously.
I hope you all enjoy it. The first chapter is just a introduction so that's why is so small, and is not even the best i can write but i think is good enough.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

The first thing Dev saw when he woke up was the soft glow of his godparent’s crown. The periwinkle fairy had a slight smile on his face as he shone his wand bringing more light into the dark room.

“Rise and shine kid,” Peri said in his most cheerful voice as he watched the boy drag himself out of bed mumbling about being too early

“Do you have to be so loud in the morning?”

“Only when I’m in a good mood” Peri smiles at the boy who was choosing his outfit for the day

“Do you have to be in a good mood?” Dev watches as the smile is replaced by a look of dismay as if Dev had burst his bubble

“Why do I still try” The fairy whispers before disguising himself as headphones as they leave the room towards the cereal bar

Walking through the hallways, Dev was surprised that the au pairs hadn’t shown up yet but he decided to ignore it for a while. Sitting down to eat his breakfast was when the morning got even weirder. A man and a woman, probably assistants or something due to the name tags hanging around their necks, appeared nervously looking at their phones and then around as if looking for something or someone.

“Have you seen your dad?” the woman asks with urgency in her voice, Dev just looks up like she’s stupid. If she wanted to know where his dad was she could just ask an au pair.

“No,” he answers, finishing his cereal without really caring about the two adults who had already left the cereal bar or noticing the two whispering.

“They seemed nervous,” Peri says, but Dev just shrugs. Many people are nervous around him, afraid of making a mistake that could cost them their jobs. He decides not to think too much about it either, although the strangeness only increases when none of the au pairs show up to take him to school.

“Where are they?”

“Maybe they’re under maintenance?”

“Whatever, I wish to be at school.”

….

It was a long day, although not all bad. He had to walk all day, but Hazel even invited him to socialize more with her friends, so he considered it a good day.

His house was quiet, now that was nothing new. There was rarely any life in the Tower where he lived, but the way not even the au pairs came to welcome him gave him a bad feeling. Seeing a young man near the elevator only added more to his suspicions of something wrong. Human employees were almost never seen around the tower.

“Where’s my dad?” Dev asks, if there are people at home his dad must be there too although it wasn’t a guarantee that Dev would see his dad today

“In a meeting” the person answers without looking much at the boy

His dad being busy was nothing new so he just went back to his room, throwing himself on the bed while staring at the ceiling thoughtfully.

“Do you want to make a wish?” Peri tries to cheer the boy up by twirling his wand in his hand

“It’s not like I have much to do” Dev closes his eyes sighing he didn’t wanted play on his phone and is bored plus a wish could distract him from whatever this strange feeling is “I wish-”

He can’t finish the sentence because suddenly a loud scream runs through the entire tower, Dev sits up alarmed while Peri seems to go into defense mode in front of the boy.

Curious where the sound came from, Dev leaves his room looking around before looking at the fairy floating above his head

“I wish to know where the scream came from”

And with a poof of a colorful cloud they were no longer there.

Looking around again, Dev found himself magically hidden in his father’s conference room. A group of lawyers sat at the table with him.

Dale Dimmadome didn’t look like his usual self. Standing with his hands on the table, his gelled hair messy from pulling it out,

“Mr. Dimmadome, you should calm down.” Dale looked at the lawyer who said this as if he wanted to punch him. Dale tried to take a deep breath as he looked at the graph in front of him. It was clear as day, there was no mistake. Every piece of data collected was irrefutable proof of what the team of lawyers had come to discuss.

Then, Dev discovers why his father is so angry when he hears the words he never imagined hearing his father say

“I don’t have money”
