Work Text:

The late afternoon sun shines down on the sword coast, as two githyanki travel to make reunions.

"Lae'zy, what if they don't want to see us? It's been a long time, and you know.. our adventures don't bring back happy times." Lae'zel smiles and takes her wife's hand. "Arilda, my moon and bride, you are too anxious about things like this. Bonds forged in the fires of combat are not easily broken, they will see us and we will remember the days when we had naught but a blade and a slew of enemies to slice."

Arilda smiles as well, her wife had mellowed since their partnership, but she always maintained that charming outlook of hers, always ready for a good fight. "I remember those days too, can we stop here? I need a break and maybe we can talk about those times.. this is our first time back here you know, since the party." Arilda sits on a log in this clearing, Lae'zel hesitates and looks as if she wants to push her to continue, but seeing her small githyanki bride holding onto the bump on her stomach, Lae'zel quickly stops and sits beside her.

"Ari, what is it? does it hurt again?" Lae'zel asks, placing her own hardened hands against Arilda's soft skin, feeling the baby bump on her wife's stomach. "Gale.. he said there would be difficulties with this kind of magic, githyanki are not used to live birth, and rewriting my own genetics with magic.. it comes with it's issues."

Arilda looks into Lae'zel's eyes. "I see how you look at me Lae'zy.. you think it's killing me, that even if I can deliver this baby, that I may not survive." Lae'zel turns her face away, not eager for her face to reveal that Arilda's concern is true. "Ari.. I support you.. no matter how dangerous this path may be, that wizard is arrogant. He may think that he can defy nature, but what.. what if he can't?

Arilda looks into her wife's fiery but caring eyes. "Lae'zy, what do you mean? He has, a baby grows inside me even now!" Lae'zel holds Arilda's hands, her voice slow and soft. "What if it kills you both.. what if you leave me here? I don't want to lose you Ari."

Arilda feels a wetness on her cheeks, as tears drip down, the sun starting to set below the horizon. "Lae'zy, I don't want to lose you either, but a life where I don't take this chance.. is not a life I'd be proud to live. Just as you freed Orpheus, saved our people through sheer force of will, I will deliver this child."

Lae'zel does what she had so rarely done in her life, a life of service, training, and devotion to a false god. She does what she had so rarely done even after meeting her wife, friends, and finding her true path in life. She does what she used to say was a sign of weakness, of foolishness, and she cries. Hot tears drip down her face, tracing over the scars, those earned both in the fires of combat and of protecting those she loved.

Arilda was at a loss for words as Lae'zel sobbed openly, burying her face in Arilda's pregnant stomach, her cheek pressed against the heartbeat within, the new small life forming. "I can't lose you! Please.. after all that's happened.. it would break me." Lae'zel weeps. Arilda strokes her hair, an almost motherly sign of affection.

"Lae'zy.. It's a girl." Lae'zel looks up, her eyes red and wet. "What? what do you mean? she asks, her voice hoarse and quiet. Arilda holds up a small device, clearly magic in nature, she holds it up to her stomach, and Lae'zel watches as a small picture forms, of a tiny body, a small heart beating.

"Gale gave this to me.. I used it and.. look." Arilda points to the little pink symbol on the device. "It knows, he said it would know. We're having a baby girl Lae'zy." The sun has dipped as a night falls upon the clearing, the cold setting in as Lae'zel hugs her wife, the tears now pouring were still born of sadness and worry, but now they held a happier meaning. Lae'zel muttered to herself, her head against Arilda's stomach, "A baby girl, grow strong little one, I'll be waiting."

The two gith embrace under the night sky, the pale moon illuminating them, as their lips meet in a wet, and passionate embrace.
