Work Text:
Megumi was a light sleeper whenever he did actually manage to fall asleep. Even the slightest noises, like a door closing a little too harshly, would startle his sleep. He hated it. Sleep was something you’re supposed to have and crave, right? So why wouldn’t his body allow him to let go of everything for a little bit? Why wouldn’t his body let the droop of his eyes and the trudge of his body be relieved?
Not even medication from Shoko would give him relief. When he did manage to get a full night's rest, however, it was with Yuji. Yuji let his worries fall away from him, like rain letting the relief of weightlessness fall upon a cloud after a bad storm. It made Megumi feel satisfied. Being a jujutsu sorcerer meant things often didn’t go as he planned.
Having Yuji gently comb his hands through Megumi’s relentless strands, his hushed words floating in the air, full of warmth and affection. It was intoxicating, and he couldn’t get enough. He often slept in Yuji’s room, or Yuji slept over in his room. Megumi doesn’t think he could go to sleep without Yuji.
The warmth he felt when he was with Yuji was like no other. It warmed his entire core and slowly running through his veins. The warmth could be described as a color within Megumi’s body, a deep shade of pink, but it couldn’t be compared to any other form comfort. It was a unique feeling that Megumi had reserved for the other boy.
Yuji was the best thing to happen to Megumi. Nothing compared to what Yuji is, what he could be, or what he’s going to be. Megumi felt he himself couldn’t even compare. Yuji was the sun, Megumi was a distant star, already burning out. Yuji was an ocean, full of life and love, while Megumi was a pond. Small traces of his love and warmth littered in the depths of the water. Only few could swim in his love, but the only person he wanted to be swimming in the water was Yuji.
“Megumi?”
A soft whisper pulled Megumi away from his thoughts. A rough calloused hand gently rubbing against his forehead, slowly making its way through his hair. Megumi hummed in response to Yuji, eyes still closed. The two were laying on Megumi’s bed. The mission they had just finished was much more taxing than the two had anticipated.
The pair had been assigned to exorcise a grade 2 curse. When they got there, however, it was most certainly a grade 1, possibly even an unidentified special grade. They had their asses handed to them, but managed to get out alive. Not unscathed, but they were breathing.
Megumi had a few lacerations on his back, as well as a large gash on his forehead. He had less serious injuries across the rest of his body. Yuji also had large cuts, a couple on his arms and one along his back. It hurt Megumi to see the crimson red leak outside of Yuji’s body, but it was nothing he hadn’t seen before.
When they got back to Jujutsu Tech, they immediately went to Shoko to be treated. After they were treated and allowed to leave, they went on with their post-mission routines before reconvening, even though most of said routine is shared between the two. Once they had finished, they laid together on Megumi’s bed, lying on their sides with their limbs intertwined.
“You’re thinking too hard. I can hear it.” Yuji whispered.
“Maybe you don’t think hard enough, cause I can never hear it.”
Yuji chuckled softly and flicked Megumi’s forehead in response. Megumi opened his eyes and smiled lightly.
Locking eyes with Yuji was something that never failed to make Megumi’s heart briefly stutter. It was something he couldn’t think he could get used to, it was the window into the other man’s mind. It felt too intimate, too knowing.
“That was unwarranted, Megumi.” Yuji grinned. Megumi gave a soft laugh.
Yuji brought his hands to Megumi’s cheeks, cupping them. His hands were warm, making Megumi’s face start to burn. Even after the time they had been dating, the little things still made him flustered.
Yuji took notice of Megumi’s flush and smiled, bringing his hands down to Megumi’s torso to embrace him. Yuji’s hugs were Megumi’s favorite. They always felt genuine and homey. He hugged Yuji back, but he still felt like he wasn’t close enough.
Yuji brought one of his hands up Megumi’s back, tangling his fingers in Megumi’s hair again. The latter hummed and closed his eyes. He hugged Yuji even tighter, attempting to bring the shorter one impossibly closer to him.
Megumi and Yuji were soulmates as far as Megumi was concerned. They fit together seamlessly, nothing could tear the thread that they sewed in each other’s lives. They had different personalities and interests, but that’s what made them unique. The two of them enjoyed knowing more about the other’s hobbies and interests when it came around to it, so neither of them indulged in what the other’s hobby was. They both enjoyed hearing each other rant and discuss what made them happy. They each had their own things they wanted to indulge in with the other, though.
Yuji had made a list of books Megumi would talk about, claiming that eventually he would read them. Megumi gladly waited for the day when he would see a book or two missing from his bookshelf. In return, Megumi had taken a mental note of the movies Yuji would rant about, good or bad. Yuji’s favorite movies to talk about were the Human Earthworm ones. Megumi was reluctant to look into those because of the name, but he trusted Yuji’s judgment.
Losing his focus on thought, Megumi opened his eyes to meet Yuji’s closed ones. He wasn’t asleep yet, but Megumi could tell that Yuji was slowly drifting further towards sleep. He moved Yuji’s hair off of his forehead with his hand, planting a soft kiss in the middle.
Yuji stirred at the contact before smiling. Megumi smiled in return.
“I love you, Megumi.” Yuji whispered.
“I love you too, Yuji. I always will.” Megumi whispered back.
Yuji’s smile grew. He returned the kiss to Megumi, before returning to his spot between the taller’s arms. The two fell asleep with their limbs tangled together, melting into each other's loving embrace.
