Prompt: “Fate had been kind”
Two years after arriving in Reborn, Romi was kind of bewildered by how different things were.
They'd come to Reborn hoping to find a place for themself, and find their own way of living with Pokemon. They'd thought about maybe taking on a couple of Gyms, exploring with their new Pokemon, maybe meeting some other Trainers. Instead they'd gotten caught up in everything that was Team Meteor, and eventually learned the (frankly still unnerving) truth that they had, most likely, always been fated to go there. But they could set that part aside. Here they were, acting Champion of the Pokemon League, living in a city where every neighbour was a friend. They had a partner they loved, Pokemon they adored, a job that was both fun and challenging. They'd saved two children from dying in a newborn world. They'd saved a baby Arceus from what they could only now see as just a cycle of abuse, and all of that was still painful for them but they knew that both Lin and the infant were much better off than before.
They were happy. Happier than they had known they could be, and far happier than they'd expected when they'd first picked up the pamphlet advertising the Gym Challenge.
Destiny, and the idea that they'd been literally created to help free Reborn, was an unsettling thing. But they couldn't deny that overall, fate had been kind to them.
