Chapter 1: First Impression

Chapter Text

Pain.
All she feels was pain at the moment. She tried to stay awake but it was almost impossible. She reached to activate a beacon before collapsing. Suddenly she heard quick footsteps in her earphones. She hoped Ståljeger found her.

"I am alive." she said.

"What happened here?" Iso just stood there not knowing what to do for a second. He looked at the chamber that just closed. He raised his gun to Iselin, unsure if she is a threat or not. Then he realized her arm.
"Hey? Can you hear me?" He lowered his gun and took a few steps closer to her. Young man leaned towards her, hesitant to touch.

"I- You're not with Ståljeger, are you?” she was seem to acceptep her fate. A bitter smile appeared on her face that surprises Iso. " Are you going to kill me?"

"Kill you?" He extended his hand for her to hold. "Let's go."

"Who are you?" said Iselin. She was trying so hard to stay consciousness but as her vision becaming blurry, her brain was slowing down and she was having difficulty finding words.

"I am with Valorant. It's alright, okay? You're gonna be alright."

She reached for his hand, still hesitating but she knew she doesn't have another chance. The moment their hands touched, she lost her consciousness. Before she collapsed to ground, Iso hold her. He took her in his arms. He left a message for Brim while he carry her to helicopter.

"Brimstone, you were right. The radivore in The Vault has broken out of its enclosure. It killed everyone who came to take it, expect one person. That one person also obliterated the radivore with the energy of a chamber. She's injured. I am getting her to Sage."

-

Iselin woke up in a cold room. She thought it was a hospital room for a second but after she examined the room with her eyes, she decided she's in some kind of facility. There was cables and medical stuff that she doesn't understand everywhere. She wanted to remove them all but before doing that, she realized her arm was missing. And she painfully remembered what happened in The Vault. She wanted to scream. She wanted to cry. But she knew she can't. She has never cried in her life as far as she remembers.

The door opened and a young man stepped in. He was familiar.

"You're awake. Good. I thought you'd die on the way but apparently you are stubborn. Thanks for not dying in my arms. Carrying a dead wouldn't be so nice." said Iso. He seems cold and lack of emotion, Iselin thought.

"Interesting eyes." she said, totally ignoring what he said.

"Hm?" he asked. Almost smiling.

"Where am I?" she asked.

"Welcome to Valorant, I guess. You have job offer from us. Quit the old job, it seems very stressful." Iso said. He walked towards her bed.

"Leave her alone, Iso." A woman entered the room after him.
She smiled to Iselin. "I am Sage. How are you feeling?"

"I-" Iselin started but her words cutted with Sage's excited words quickly.

"Listen, I can give your arm back." said Sage like it was a normal thing.

"Let's just let her a break, shall we?" said Brimstone. No one was realized he entered the room. "You can rest now, we didn't let anyone know that you're here. You are a talented young woman, we all would like you to stay to our team. Take your time while thinking about the offer you don't have to-"

It was Iselin's turn to cut the words. "I accept."

"Oh... " said Brimstone. "That's... Fast."

"I want to be alone." said Iselin.

Brim and Sage showed understanding and left the room without asking any questions. Iso lingered a bit at the door, standing his hands in his pockets. She looked at him questionally.

"I am Iso." he said.

"What a stupid name." Iselin answered. She added a few seconds later. "Deadlock."

"What a stupid name."
