Work Text:
"There it is!" Song pointed across the road, seeing the sign of the shoe store that they'd been trying to find for half an hour.
She grabbed Wolf's hair and dragged her over to the store. It had only opened a couple of weeks prior, but it was already full of all different kinds of shoes.
The two entered the store, almost immediately greeted by an employee.
"Welcome! Do you need any assistance?" she asked with a friendly smile.
"Yeah, I'm trying to find shoes for my daughter," Song said, gesturing towards Wolf.
The employee nodded and walked up to Wolf. She smiled gently at the sight of the girl's bare feet.
"Ah, do you not feel comfortable in shoes?"
Wolf shrugged. "It's easier to move around without them."
"I see. Well, I'm sure we'll find something comfortable for you! We have various options here." The employee led them towards several shelves with shoes, around Wolf's size. "I'm just going to measure your feet, and then we can find a more precise match."
Song grabbed a couple of wet wipes to clean the dirt off of Wolf's feet that she had collected during their way there. She didn’t want to stain every single shoe they tried on and have to buy all of them. When that was done, Wolf sat down on one of the chairs, kicking her legs back and forth as she waited for the employee to return.
Song looked at the various displays of shoes, trying to find ones that Wolf would like. She knew that her daughter liked to be outside and run, so she needed something that would be easy to move in. Song walked away from the heels beside her. Those would definitely not do.
After measuring Wolf's feet, the employee walked back and forth between several different shelves, letting Wolf try on the shoes and walk around with them before trying a different pair. Wolf didn't know why, but none of them felt quite... Right.
Then again, she wasn’t sure how the right shoe would actually feel. She hadn't worn shoes since she was five heard old, and she had long since forgotten the feeling.
She was on the verge of giving up and telling Song to just let her keep walking barefoot, when the employee came back with a pair of black sneakers.
"Let's see if these are any good."
Wolf put them on and let out a gasp of shock, tensing up. Song was by her side immediately, putting a comforting hand on her back.
"What's wrong, sweetie? Are they too big? Too tight?"
Wolf took in a deep breath. "They're... Perfect."
The employee cheered in excitement, glad to not have to search for a thirteenth pair of shoes. A Smile grew on Song's lips as she watched Wolf's expression.
Wolf had finally found a pair of shoes that felt right. She would no longer have to walk barefoot and get blisters from stepping on dozens of rocks throughout the day.
Song hugged her and Wolf giggled. "Let's buy them, then, honey!"
Taking off the shoes, Wolf carried them towards the checkout where a cashier was standing, smiling when Wolf excitedly handed over the shoes. As soon as they were paid for, Wolf put them on, walking with Song out of the store.
And for the first time ever, she didn't have to wash her feet as soon as she came home.
