“You really think this is a good idea?”
“Yep, it’s the only way we will know if we can save the world or not.”
Y/N looked at their surroundings, taking in the tall skyscrapers around them. It’s almost as if there are no trees in sight left. It seems the world has changed a lot in just a few years. Trees are getting fewer and more buildings are adding up.
The pair made their way to the other Five’s assumed apartment. Taking the elevator. Five pressed the fifth floor as if already familiar with the place.
“So have I told you the 7 stages of Paradox Psychosis?”
“Yeah, what’s the last one again?”
“Homicidal Rage. so if you stay too close to your other self for too long, you might start killing each other or rather… anyone.”
Y/N mentally took note of that, hoping not to completely obliterate her future self or anyone from history.
Ding. The elevator opened, Five exiting first with his hands shoved into his pockets. Y/N follows after from behind Five, watching Five investigate the various apartment doors.
The apartment halls looked very eerie and there were only a few lights but not enough to brighten up the whole hall. It looked abandoned and neglected. Seemingly how insects surrounded the walls.
He halts at one, Y/N halting as well.
“What?”
He stares right at the number 5 door before unexpectedly blinking. Not long, the door knob turns and the door swings open. A mocking smile plastered on Five’s face.
Y/N walked in past Five, used to his obnoxious blinking.
They both looked around at other Five’s apartment. Y/N snickers as she gets a hold of other Five’s instant coffee jar. Five lightly chuckles, shaking his head and dismissing Y/N’s teasing.
“How'd you know this was your apartment?”
“Lucky guess” Five skims through the files on other Five’s shelves, hoping to find any governmental documents.
“You sure it's not your lucky number?”
Five looked at Y/N with a puzzled expression, furrowing his eyebrows.
“You live on the fifth floor of the fifth apartment,” Y/N laughed mockingly. A scoff leaving Five’s lips.
“Funny accusation, but no.”
“Holy…”
“What?” Five looked at Y/N holding a picture frame with her jaw dramatically dropped, he walked towards her and grabbed the picture frame to look at it himself.
He looks at the pair in the frame, Five’s arm wrapped around Y/N's waist. Seeing his other self smiling widely. Knowing himself, he had never been able to smile that wide.
Y/N felt the same. Out of all the people she thought about ending up with, never had it crossed her mind that it would be Five.
“What? It’s not that big of a deal.” Five returned the picture frame back on the table.
“Hello? It is for me! No way I ended up with… you?” Disgust was all over Y/N’s face, while Five nonchalantly looked around for more clues. Because for him, it really wasn’t that big of a deal. He couldn’t care less about who he ended up with. It didn’t matter. It was about time that he found someone anyway.
“Five? Are you even listening to me?—” Y/N paused to itch themselves, now feeling sort of annoyed. Grumbling as she decided to just scan the other rooms, now seeing the pairs matching pajamas, Y/N assumed they shared the room. 2 toothbrushes and towels in the bathroom. And the 2 cups they saw on the dining table from earlier.
Not long after that, Y/N could hear something dropping from the other side of the room. Itching themselves from time to time.
“Five?” Y/N called out, now heading out of the room and walking to the direction of noise.
Her jaw drops, seeing the other Five and Five grabbing each other by the collar. And it wasn’t just that, Y/N saw themselves, who’s shrugging right at them.
“What do you want?” The other Five asked, glaring at Five. Five immediately blinked, getting out of the other Five’s grasp. Five teleported to Y/N’s side, heavily panting while loosening his necktie.
“We need your help.”
Other Y/N placed 2 extra cups in front of Five and Y/N. sitting beside other Five. Other Five and Five took a sip of their coffee at the same time, glaring at each other. Y/N smiled at other Y/N, making her smile back too.
“How can we help?”
“Y/N teleported us to your timeline, meaning, the future. Because in our timeline in 7 days, the world will end again”
The other Five raised his eyebrows in acknowledgement, seemingly used to himself having to save the world multiple times.
“We were wondering if you guys can tell us how you saved it?” Y/N added, other Five’s demeanor changing from annoyed to calm. Only because it’s Y/N speaking. Which Five catches on, getting even more annoyed at the other Five.
“Apparently Sir Reginald Hargreeves has a partner we never knew about, and his partner has a substance known as 'Marigold' within her body. this Marigold may serve as a beacon, potentially attracting alien entities, thereby instigating a full-scale extraterrestrial invasion of all humanity."
“What did he just say?” Y/N asked the other Y/N, “I have no idea. Only they know what they are talking about” the two Y/Ns snicker to themselves.
“To simplify, the sooner you kill Abigail, the sooner you can save the world.”
“How will we know where Abigail is?” Y/N asked, utterly confused.
“Simple. Six feet under.” Five butted in before the other Five could answer, the other five paid no mind to Five’s butting in. Knowing himself, he dislikes his other self.
“Wait… why on earth is Abigail six feet under?...” Y/N added, eyebrows furrowing.
“Because dear Y/N, Sir Reginald Hargreeves has attachment issues and can’t seem to let go of people in peace even after death” the other Five sarcastically answered, Five tensed at the other Five’s nickname ‘dear’ for Y/N. he didn’t like other Five’s sarcastic remark. Or him at all.
Y/N narrowed her eyebrows at the information, only for more questions to come up in her head. But the other Five already expected that. Which is why he is calmly answering each question she has to ask.
“So some old sicko buried their lover alive… but where do we find where she’s buried?”
“She’s not buried alive, she’s just brain dead and living on sedation and on machines. Reginald Hargreeves won’t let her be buried just anywhere, she needs to be near him.”
“Wait… underneath his house?” Y/N scrunched her nose in disgust, other Y/N nodding in agreement at her question.
Y/N looked at Five when she no longer had any other questions to ask about how and where to exterminate Abigail. Instead… the questions she was about to ask were more personal.
“What?” Five asked, confused with the expression they have on their face.
“I’ll ask them”
“About what?”
“How we’re together…” Y/N whispered quietly to Five with her lips pursed, He looked at Y/N then at other Five and other Y/N. who were talking to each other like married couples. As much as it grossed Y/N out knowing she ended up with Five. It's eye opening to see the sweet outcome of them ending up together.
“Fiveyyy” Y/N sang interrupting the partners conversation, then got up from her chair and walked towards the other Five. Five remained seated, sipping on the coffee other Y/N prepared him.
“Yes love?”
“Oh.. Don’t.. Why are you calling me that?” Y/N cringed, as well as Five.
“Well, you are Y/N from the past so,”
“I just wished I realized sooner, don’t you think?” The other Five turned to look at lovingly other Y/N, other Y/N laughing. “Your question?” other Five looked back at Y/N.
“How did we?…”
“End up together?”
“..Yeah” Y/N paused, “I mean it just seems so impossible— right now.”
“There’s a saying, that chances are low, but never zero.” Other Five smiled warmly at other Y/N, his affection for her clear in his gaze. Years had passed, but her feisty demeanor and appearance remained unchanged. She was still the same spirited person he had always secretly adored.
“Do I regret it?” Y/N asked the other Five.
“Did you?” Other Five turned to other Y/N. She hummed and pretended to ponder the question before finally answering. “Maybe?...” Five let out a laugh in disbelief. Pretending to be shocked and offended.
“Maybe?” Five repeated in a sassy tone. “Why you—” Five wrapped his arms from behind other Y/N, grabbing onto her sides and roughly tickling her. Her body shakes while giggling, immediate instinct is to try to get out of his grasp.
Y/N looks at Five, noticing how awestruck his expression is while also watching their future selves. The two intently watch their future selves tackle down each other and make lighthearted witty remarks about each other. Five could feel himself yearning for their future selves relationship and sweet banters. And Y/N could sense that, also equally feeling the longing desire to commit what their future selves have.
That is if they save the world first. As much as Five wanted to put that first, asking Y/N out would have to wait.
Bidding goodbyes to their future selves, the two made their way out. Five went in followed by Y/N into the elevator. She pressed the ground level, watching the elevator doors close. Y/N didn’t know why she felt the need to use the elevator when she can just teleport Five and her back to their timeline, but maybe deep down, she knew that they had been avoiding a topic for a long time.
“Do you think we would be happy?”
Five’s head turned to Y/N who was already looking at him with a longing expression.
“Yeah. I believe so.” Five tensed up, immediately looking away.
The elevator door opens, but no one’s going out. There’s sudden tension between them and utter silence after Y/N’s question. It leaves Five thinking. Now realizing they have many, many, things to unravel.
“We look good together,” Y/N stated, catching Five off guard. Her smile drops seeing Five’s unreadable expression, walking out of the elevator in shame. There’s no doubt, Five thinks the same way.
He follows after Y/N who’s putting pace on her walk as she exits the apartment building. Mentally cursing on herself for admitting that. She gets interrupted out of her trance when Five takes her hand softly. Looking at her with loving sincere eyes. the same way his future self would.
“We do. I think so too.” Y/N’s expression turns into a relieved smile, firmly holding Five’s hand back.
Blue statics engulfed the pair while they held each other’s hand firmly. The connection of their hands exchanges fuel for them to travel, traveling faster than light and speed to return to their original timeline. Where they’re from, the past.
